Politics › Re: Why Oriire LGA And Others Are Prone To Insecurity: A Hard Look At The Figures by benardtotti(m): 10:10am On Jun 03 |
chatinent: You may think this happened to Oriire alone but it is a quarter mile from happening to any LGA in Nigeria. These politicians by their actions and inactions sponsor the very terrorism reducing the numbers of your people.
Oriire Local Government in Oyo State, where our children were recently kidnapped, receives over ₦539,221,977 monthly as allocation from the Federal Government.
Let’s do the math: 539,221,977 x 12 = ₦6,470,663,724 (approx. ₦6.4 billion) yearly.
If you multiply that by the last 7 years, you get a staggering ₦45.294 billion.
Now, go to that Local Government and look for any development worth even ₦500 million, not to talk of ₦45.2 billion. It simply does not exist. Then tell me why it wouldn't be prone to insecurity. This is the reality in almost every Local Government Area in Nigeria, with very few exceptions in states like Lagos.
If we turn the searchlight on all 774 Local Governments in Nigeria, the level of neglect inflicted on us by these Governors and their "boi-boi" Council Chairmen will make us all weep for this country.
The Reality of Autonomy and Accountability I disagree with those looking only at a 7-year timeframe; the figures changed significantly after the recent adjustments when the current administration came in. However, the truth is that local government administration remains a sham. The Federal Government has made it clear that local government autonomy is sacrosanct, yet the execution is poor.
How can a Local Government not have a single Police station or even a police post? In Oriire, you don’t even have an Amotekun sub-station office, yet you have a full Local Government administration. These guys are just running a fraud. There is absolutely no intentionality in protecting your subjects.
The incompetent governor was using the death of the teacher to campaign for presidency. If you have no power to protect your people and must wait for executive orders, resign NOW! This governor is a very insensitive person!
Let's not talk of shooting peaceful protesters yesterday by the governor-orchestrated cultist head (who is supposedly also suffering from the ruins of bad government).
On this specific issue, I absolve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of any complicity. The blame lies squarely at the feet of the state leadership. Seyi Makinde should take all the blame, and when his tenure expires, he should be made to answer to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC itself is political and nothing will be done! It also shields corruptions when it is its party members! Its beams are only on the poor, but the rich it overlooks! It's a useless organisation too!
Would Chinese citizens ever accept this kind of nonsense? Even though Nigerians are often too complacent, this has to stop.
Addendum: There is a total lack of intentionality on the part of both Federal and State officials in monitoring these disbursements. It is heartbreaking. This is not the type of government we should be bequeathing to the Gen Z generation; if we continue like this, they will end up doing even worse.
Welcome to Nigeria with no checks, no balance.
On this second note I blame Tinubu because he is also incompetent and the foregod of causing hardship, poverty and sorrow! Like Zeus, you can call him a god of corruption!

DrMB: Are we looking away from a silent crisis? While the headlines focus on politics and the economy, the latest health data reveals a sobering reality. Over the last three months alone, thousands of Nigerians have tested positive for HIV. Is your state doing enough regarding testing, awareness, and prevention? Here is the official breakdown of newly tested HIV-positive patients across Nigeria between March and May 2026, according to the National Data Repository. High numbers can mean two things: a higher spread, or simply better, more aggressive testing campaigns in those states. 👇 What do you think is driving these numbers in your state? Are advocacy programs fading, or is healthcare access improving? Drop your thoughts in the comments below. Let’s talk about it.

We need to vote in governors that love their homeland, love their state, it's culture, traditions and is ready to fight and die for his state and people, this is the type of governors we must support or vote into power. We need to be as evil, brutal and callous as the terrorists, this is the only way. Finally! Someone gets my point , people think Tinubu is the problem, if the governors are not proactive even if u put Obi there insecurity will still continue. The only part I blame tinubu is he should actively pursue state police that way people will really know who to blame for insecurity in their region , but because of politics and leverage he doesn't want to actively pursue state police. |

dederocs: At this crucial time of the history of this federation, we must be ready.to take necessary actions, to protect our peace, unity, diversity and to fully implement the federal system of governance, where each state is autonomous. Nigeria is going through the most serious internal terrorism problem in the world, incomparable to any other nation, it is very dumb of us to allow terrorists to eventually plunge us into civil war, instead of us killing them, it is better to kill them, than allow them plunge Nigeria into a religious war. A nation make laws to protect its people, it's diverse heritage, freedoms and culture...why are we so stupid?
Why are we giving birth to children, if what we want to bequeath them is a nation where sahelians can kill them like chickens?
I think our political office holders are being very myopic and caught up in the money they see they have lost their sense.
America, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and dozens of other countries, that don't have territorists problems like us execute killers, but in Nigeria, we beg them, pay them and rehabilitate them, instead of the government to rehabilitate those in IDP camps and relocate them back to their ancestral homes.
Death penalty and execution will reduce the numbers of the most vicious terrorists and demonic killers in a society. Execution of demonic killers serve as deterrence to other aspiring young terrorists. Execution helps to disorganise territorists organisations, as top leaders are killed, the terrorists organisation suffers organisational setbacks and may take years to find a capable and efficient leader, like the one killed. Keeping terrorists in prison gives them access to meet with other terrorists, they can even form new alliances in prison and get deeper indoctrination, hence we need to adopt isolation system in our jails, lock each territorists in an underground individual prison, where they will have no contact with no human being while they wait their execution date.
Nigerian senate and judiciary must play their role, they must enact death penalty, and the law must be amended, governors should not be required to sign death warrants, once a judge passes death penalty and appeals are exhausted, automatically the convict should be executed, we can use firing squad. The north started terrorism because niger Delta activists got amnesty ,they didn't like it , unfortunately Gej was too soft , if he had come very hard on boko Haram when it started it won't have festered like this. |

naptu2: Someone else has noticed the trick that I was going to post about yesterday.
In all other parties, aspirants buy expression of interest and nomination forms, they fill and they return the forms, then they are screened by the party before they contest the primaries.
In the NDC, you contest the primaries, then you are screened by the party before you are given nomination and expression of interest form. That's what Seriake Dickson said in that press release.
In fact, people like Blessing have alleged that only one nomination form was printed per position.
Why is this so?
The electoral act 2026 prescribes two methods of selecting candidates, direct primaries and consensus.
However, for the consensus option it says that all aspirants that have been screened and cleared must signify that they agree to the consensus.
What the NDC has done means that any aspirant that is not happy has no leg to stand on, because he did not buy any form, he was not screened, neither was he cleared. Dem don give dickson title " Supreme leader' - Ayatollah seriake dickson |

Politics › Re: Even ₦30 Million A Year Can Feel Like Survival In Nigeria by benardtotti(m): 9:46pm On May 28 |
Princedapace: I genuinely want to understand people who still support the current state of Nigeria. I want to see things from their perspective and understand what exactly gives them hope or confidence in the system.
Here are some of the reasons why I have become deeply frustrated with Nigeria as a country.
Nigeria took control of our God-given natural resources, declared them government property, made enormous amounts of money from them for decades, yet the results are disappointing.
No Proper Public Water Supply Most citizens still have to dig boreholes just to access water. In many places, there is no reliable treated water system provided by the government. No Stable Electricity Even after digging your own borehole, you still struggle with electricity to pump the water. I remember how stressful it was carrying my heavy generator downstairs several times a week just to pump water. It is exhausting. Poor Network and Internet Services You constantly battle with poor network coverage. Please do not tell me network is good in your area. Good network should be standard across all major cities, state capitals, and urban centers. Starlink practically came to rescue internet access for many Nigerians, just as generators and solar systems became alternatives to failed electricity infrastructure. Healthcare Is a Nightmare Many of our best doctors have left the country in search of better pay and better working conditions. We are left with fewer doctors, poorly funded hospitals, and overwhelmed healthcare systems. Even the hospital I use had to install massive solar infrastructure, and the cost was indirectly transferred to patients like us. Insecurity Has Become Terrifying Going to bed in Nigeria now feels frightening. You could be kidnapped. Your children could be kidnapped. Armed bandits have taken over many highways and rural communities. The number of Nigerians kidnapped monthly from their homes and roads is alarming.
Personally, I have not traveled outside the state I currently live in for about three years because of insecurity. The last time I had to travel, I used a flight because the roads no longer felt safe.
The economy is brutal too. One million naira disappears before you even realize it. Citizens practically fund every social need by themselves.
Even as an individual earning ₦30 million yearly, if you are a family man, you can still feel financially drained unless you are willing to lower your standard of living significantly. The moment you try to maintain a higher quality of life, the expenses become overwhelming.
To afford:
24/7 electricity Reliable water supply Proper healthcare Quality education for your children Good internet like Starlink Healthy feeding One or two family vacations yearly
…you may still spend the entire year struggling financially despite earning what should normally be considered a strong income.
Nigerians Pay Heavy Taxes Without Real Value in Return The government makes enormous amounts of money from citizens. When we heard how much companies like MTN paid in taxes, many people celebrated. But where did that money come from? It came from ordinary Nigerians paying for services.
Nigerians are heavily taxed, whether people realize it or not.
Every USSD transaction attracts charges. Bank transfers attract charges. Driver’s licenses, passports, imports, exports, ATM withdrawals, and countless services all come with taxes, levies, or fees.
You could earn ₦100,000 and unknowingly spend over ₦15,000 through different forms of indirect taxation and service charges.
Companies like Meta and Google also pay taxes to the Nigerian government, but that money still ultimately comes from hardworking Nigerians using their platforms and services.
Yet despite all this, the government still wants to widen income taxation, especially targeting the informal sector — people who built businesses and survived without meaningful government support.
Housing Costs Are Becoming Unbearable Rent keeps increasing while purchasing power keeps dropping drastically. So how exactly are citizens expected to afford decent housing?
And then people ask why crime is increasing. Survival itself has become extremely difficult.
Nigeria is also a highly dependent society where one individual is often responsible for supporting parents, siblings, spouse, and children at the same time.
Education Is Becoming Unsafe and Unreliable Honestly, many public schools look abandoned. Some of the videos online make government schools resemble neglected facilities. A lot of parents no longer trust public education, so they are forced into expensive private schools.
So, what exactly is my benefit as a Nigerian citizen?
I know how much money Nigeria takes from me yearly. Even as a freelancer before this aggressive tax expansion, VAT was already deducted from many services and transactions I paid for. The government already made significant money from me indirectly.
Now, after paying VAT across products and services, people are still expected to surrender a large percentage of their income through direct taxation.
Copying systems from countries like the UK without building equivalent infrastructure and public services first is unfair.
I am honestly drained. Nigeria feels suffocating.
And the worst part?
Corruption remains deeply rooted. Politicians still abuse public institutions. Elections are still heavily questioned. Huge amounts of money are spent maintaining politicians and their families.
Citizens are constantly told to endure hardship. But why does it seem like only ordinary Nigerians are expected to suffer?
Can politicians not endure too?
Are citizens alone supposed to make sacrifices while the political class continues living comfortably?
For those who still strongly support the current state of Nigeria, I genuinely want to understand your reasons. I will try my very best to answer you not as a supporter of the apc but as a Nigerian who advocates proper governance . First the decay didn't start with this government, it is over 50 years old , when nigeria found wealth with oil in the 70s Gowon made that famous statement that Nigeria's problem is not money but how to spend it , that was the beginning of the lack of accountability that entered governance in nigeria as politicians ajd even the military ended up spending money on white elephant projects, doing subsidy ,and dashing our fellow african countries money . Meanwhile other countries like uae who also found wealth in oil around the same time sat down and mapped out a blueprint on how to use the oil wealth to develop their country . You can blame tinubu all you want but the reason I admire his courage is that he didn't come in and do the same populist nonsense other leaders that got us into the mess in the first place , at least he tried to reform the system. No politician in his first term will try what tinubu did . Finally , after all said and done even if he looses and a new person comes in how sure are you that they won't continue with Tinubu’s policies ? Will they revoke the tax act ? Will they bring back subsidy and begin to pay dangote to supply fuel at 500 per litre ? Where will they get funds to pay off all our debts ?etc Forget partisan politics for an instance and go thru all I wrote logically and reply . |

CBTxFactor: Hello, Fellow Nairalanders, I hope you're all having a good day than I am. We need to talk about what is currently happening with Smartcash PSB, the digital banking subsidiary owned by telecom giant Airtel Nigeria. If you have money inside this app, or if you’ve been planning to use them for their much-advertised features, please read this thread carefully and secure your funds if you still can. There is an ongoing, quiet crisis hitting Smartcash PSB users, and the complaints rocking the comment sections on their official social media handles (especially X/Twitter @smartcashpsb) are becoming too frequent and alarming to ignore.
My Personal Experience: How My ₦30,000 Vanished and They Ghosted Me. Let me share my own firsthand nightmare with this platform. I had an active account with a total balance of ₦30,000 sitting safely inside it. Out of nowhere, following their recent "system upgrades," my account simply vanished. I was abruptly logged out, and every attempt to log back in or reset my credentials has been completely blocked. It is as if my account never existed in their database. To make matters worse, I’ve tried reaching out to them via their so-called support on X. I sent multiple DMs detailing how my money disappeared, but they don't even acknowledge or reply to my messages. It’s total radio silence while they hold onto my ₦30,000. I can't even reach them through their help line +2349125939939 because all I get is a recorded message of "we're experiencing technical difficulties..."
The 10% Cashback Bait: Now Completely Broken One of the biggest features Smartcash used to drag millions of Nigerians away from OPay and PalmPay was their highly publicized 10% Cashback promo on Airtel airtime and data recharges. It was a sweet deal on paper ...spend money and get instant percentages back into your wallet. However, users are now crying out that this feature has been completely inoperable for a long duration. Not only are people not receiving their promised cashbacks, but the transactions frequently trigger errors, leaving users with failed recharges and trapped bonuses that can no longer be redeemed. They used the 10% cashback to lure people in, and now the system has been abandoned.
The Core Issues: What Customers Like Myself Are Facing From the massive outcries rocking their recent social media posts, the operational failures of Smartcash PSB fall into three scary categories:
1. Forced Deactivations and "Vanishing" Funds The bank has been sending out emails to certain users claiming they need to deactivate their wallets due to "upgrade issues." They explicitly assure customers that their balances are safe. However, multiple users have reported that after their wallets are deactivated for this "upgrade," the money is debited, and the bank fails to re-onboard them.
2. Constant Biometric Locks & Inaccessible Support Following recent app updates, the application is abruptly logging users out. When trying to log back in, the app rejects previously registered biometrics. To make matters worse, when users try to reset their details via customer service, they are being told their bio-data (like Date of Birth) is incorrect even though the customer set it up themselves.
3. Hidden/Ghost Transactions and App Bugs Many business owners and casual users complain that when transfers are made, money leaves the account immediately (debit alert received), but the transaction completely vanishes from the app's history. Users are left stranded at POS points or merchant shops with no receipts to prove they actually sent money. To make matters worse, sending money from other banks to smartcash PSB will be tagged successful but nowhere to be found within the recipient's account.
Current Outcries From Stranded Customers A quick scroll through the comments on their recent X posts shows a pattern of absolute panic. Here is what real users are saying right now in their comments section:
App Lockout:"I updated the app and it doesn't accept my biometrics anymore. It locked my account. Customer service is telling me my date of birth is incorrect so I can't unlock it or get my money out!"
Missing Transaction Proof:"Sometimes when I send money and the person hasn't seen the alert, I check my transaction history to generate a receipt, but I can't see it! Even though I got the debit alert immediately. I almost got beaten up at a shop because of this issue."
The Silent Treatment:"You people will not reply DMs, your customer care number (939) is not connecting, and you have locked my money inside the app. Is this how you want to run a bank?"
Why This is Dangerous Unlike regular commercial banks with prominent, dedicated brick-and-mortar branches on every street corner, Smartcash is a Payment Service Bank (PSB). While backed by Airtel, trying to resolve core banking issues at a standard telecom customer care center has proven to be a nightmare for many, as the telecom staff often lack the banking infrastructure to fix backend wallet glitches. They lured millions of Nigerians in with promises of zero transaction fees and 10% cashback, but what use is a free transfer if you wake up one day and cannot access your capital?
Over to You, Nairalanders: Are you currently using Smartcash PSB? Have you experienced these random logouts, missing funds, or frozen wallets? If you had issues and successfully got your money out, please share how you did it so others can learn.🙏🏾
Let's push this thread to the front page so Airtel and Smartcash PSB management can address this systematically before it turns into a full-blown financial disaster for unsuspecting Nigerians! Mods, please help 🙏🏾 raise awareness on this matter by pushing this to the front page. Thank you.

According to reports, pharmacist Nomzila Madinane had recently opened the pharmacy after identifying a need for easier access to medication in the community, where many residents were allegedly forced to travel long distances for healthcare services.
The attack has left residents shocked and devastated, with many describing Madinane as a young entrepreneur committed to serving her community.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said the victims were ambushed by unknown gunmen while at the pharmacy.
“Inchanga police opened three cases of m8rder following an incident in which two females and a security guard were shot by unknown people,” said Netshiunda.
“The victims were fatally shot while the security guard sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.”
“Reports indicate that three armed men stormed the pharmacy and opened fire, k!lling Madinane and her cashier at the scene.”
The security guard was reportedly shot while attempting to intervene.
Earlier reports suggested he had been fighting for his life in hospital before police later confirmed his d3ath.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, with investigators expected to determine whether the shooting was linked to robbery or another motive.

mindtricks: It's not really juju, it's the same prudence and stellar performance that brought him to the limelight. Did a lot to lift the state that was very backward when he came in, without borrowing a dime or owing any contractors, left heavy fund in the state coffers and investments when others left heavy debts, refused taking benefits that others grabbed. Just a few. Google to learn more. You guys think everyone was born yesterday, look at the pdf screenshot below, ngige performed better than obi and doesn't make noise, obi could not even generate steady revenue for Anambra, funny enough first year his stooge became governor he tripled what obi struggled to generate in 8 years
