The problem with power supply is not who is ministar, but how much we pay into the system for it to work. Nigerians, for the most part do not pay enough into the power system to make it work. Unlike the GSM sector where you have to pay whatever price MTN or Airtel sets before you use their network, NIgerians do not pay enough into the power sector due to a lack of cost reflective tarrifs in the power sector.

It is this lack of a cost reflective tarrif that is causing most of the problems in the power sector. Because of that, the sector is losing money...to the point that for over 12 years they haven';t been able to pay the gas companies their money, which is why the gas companies are not giving them gas for the thermal stations . They want their money...and it is only fair for them to ask for their money. Government subsides are inadequate and not paid regularly because until last month, oil prices have been too low to sustain them, and even the recent plan by government to pay subsides via bonds just means that it would take several months for power to come back (and the two weeks story is just, as a nairalander pointed out..the power minister hoping the rain will save his job..lol).

Lack of a cost reflective tarrif is why several investors have pulled out of managing the discos because they are not making a profit, and it is why many of the discos resort to ripoffs like estimated billing and overbilling to survive, and why many discos are sacking workers, and many gencos are within one month away from financially collapsing.

Yet many NIgerians seem to think that adovocating that a company should HAVE THE RIGHT TO SET ITS PRICES...means that you support tinubu.

The principle of a company or business setting its prices is basic economics, yet stating the obvious means you are a tinubu supporter. The same tinubu that is doing the direct opposite by maintaing the price controls on the sector.


The fact is the power we get is what we pay for. We paid high prices the GSM set, and we now have a better telecoms and internet sector than we did 23 years ago. We bypass meters, steal power, and as a result we get bad power, unless you are a band A person.


We are getting the power we paid for, and it is because we are a poor nation, who uses our poverty as an excuse to avoid making hard choices that should be made. And since the government comes from the people, the government takes loans to keep on not making the hard choices that need to be made.


If you are calling someone a tinubu supporter because they believe in the free market and in prices being set by the people who own their busines.s..then that means that you support the government setting the price of your own businesses to help the poor. No other way about it.


We better pay cost reflective tarrifs, or we forget about 24 hours light. Ivory coast learned that lesson in 1993, and they got better light than we do.

Actually with detty December lagos is beginning to interest tourists and a lot of solo travelers and vloggers are giving Nigeria especially lagos free publicity.

The results of all these trips are so obvious and visible that anybody that says he can't see them is not serious at all.

President Goodluck Jonathan visited China (I created the thread) and the result was the Abuja - Kaduna rail line.

President Buhari visited China (I created the thread again) and the result was the Lagos - Ibadan rail line, the Railway University and the Railway workshop that builds coaches.

At different times Governors Babatunde Fashola and Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited China and the result was the trains that run on the Blue Line.

President Tinubu visited Qatar and the result was the free housing estates that Qatar is building for victims of Boko Haram and bandit attacks across northern Nigeria.

There are so many other projects across transportation, electricity, waste disposal, manufacturing and so on and so forth that have come from these trips and they are visible for all to see.

2027 is Nigerians vs ADC. In 2014 people were resigning from the PDP and Joining the newly formed APC. In 2026, people are resigning from the newly-formed ADC and joining the APC. No hope for opposition.

The difference is Apc is made up of battle hardened politicians who came up from fighting the military to being the first opposition after the return to democracy in 99, then they now have a wily old fox PBat as president and leader , it will be very difficult defeating that combo.
