Big gain for the club mehn ![]() |
Cristiano Ronaldo’s shock return to Manchester United has seen the club’s stock market value rocket by £212m at one point on Friday. On Thursday, it looked inevitable that Ronaldo would ignore his previous loyalties and sign for Manchester City, which would consequently put an end to their search for a striker. However, over the course of Friday, the tide turned and in a fast-moving deal, Ronaldo was announced as a United player for the second time in his career. The Portugal captain had spent the previous three campaigns at Juventus conquering the Serie A, he scored 81 goals in 97 league appearances during that time and helped his side win the title twice. United will pay £20m for the 36-year-old, managing to pay a cut-price figure for the forward due to his contract in Italy running out next season anyway. He has now agreed to a two-year contract at Old Trafford. But it wasn’t just the United faithful that went wild after seeing the announcement that Ronaldo would return to the Theatre of Dreams after 12 years away, the stock market did too. When Ronaldo was announced on United's social channels, share prices in the club rose by an almighty 9.8%. However briefly, the star's 100-million-euro signing caused Juventus shares to soar about 150 per cent in the first year, reports Yahoo Finance. In June, the popular striker wiped $4 billion off Coca-Cola's market value after he removed two bottles of coke and told the watching world to "drink water" during a press conference. The move made Coca-Cola's share price to drop from $56.10 (£39.80) to $55.22 (£39.19). At one point a whopping 1.6 per cent of the company's value had been wiped off - meaning the market value of Coca-Cola went from $242bn to $238bn - a drop of $4bn (£2.84bn). Your vision is truly a gift. Many of us take our clear view of the world for granted. However, many people will experience temporary eye problems from time to time, including itching, blurriness, or fatigue. Most of these eye problems are short-lived and will probably go away on their own with no complications. However, sudden eye problems and those that last for more than a couple of days should be checked by an eye doctor. Some serious eye diseases often have sudden symptoms. The following is a list of common eye problems and their possible causes. Age-Related Macular Degeneration Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the physical disturbance of the center of the retina called the macula. Bulging Eyes Bulging eyes, or proptosis, occurs when one or both eyes protrude from the eye sockets due to space taking lesions such as swelling of the muscles, fat, and tissue behind the eye. Cataracts Cataracts are a degenerative form of eye disease in which the lens gradually becomes opaque and vision mists over. Cataracts in Babies In rare cases, children develop cataracts in the first few years of their lives. CMV Retinitis CMV Retinitis is a serious infection of the retina that often affects people with AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) and that may also affect people with other immune disorders. Color Blindness Color blindness is not actually blindness in the true sense but rather is a color vision deficiency—people who are affected by it simply do not agree with most other people about color matching. Crossed Eyes (Strabismus) Crossed eyes (or strabismus) occur when a person's eyes are not able to align on the same point at the same time, and appear to be misaligned or pointed in different directions. Diabetic Macular Edema Diabetic Macular Edema, DME, is caused by fluid accumulation in the macula. Patients with DME typically experience blurred vision which can be severe. Eye Floaters and Eye Flashes Floaters are small specks or clouds that move across your field of vision—especially when you are looking at a bright, plain background, like a blank wall or a cloudless blue sky. Glaucoma Glaucoma occurs when a build-up of fluid in the eye creates pressure, damaging the optic nerve. Keratoconus When the cornea in the front of the eye, which normally is round, becomes thin and cone shaped. Lazy Eye Commonly known as lazy eye, amblyopia is poor vision in an eye that does not receive adequate use during early childhood. Low Vision Whenever ordinary glasses or contact lenses don't produce clear vision, you are considered to have low vision. Ocular Hypertension Ocular hypertension is an increase in pressure in the eye that is above the range considered normal. Retinal Detachment When the retina detaches, light sensitive membrane in the back of the eye becomes separated from the nerve tissue and blood supply underneath it. Eyelid Twitching Sometimes your eyelid simply twitches. Uveitis Uveitis is the inflammation of the inside the eye, specifically affecting one or more of the three parts of the eye that make up the uvea.
