Business / An Underutilised Advertisement Method In Nigeria - Buying Advert Spaces On Blogs by Bestiepedia: 3:41pm On Feb 09
There's this underutilized method of online marketing I've noticed most Nigerians don't really consider. I'll be talking about it further on.

Online advertising in Nigeria has taken a big shift over the years, no doubt. Let's take this statistic for instance: it says that between 2018 and 2020, Nigeria spent over 240 million US dollars on internet Advertising.

However, channels such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, and other social media platforms are the ones dominating. True, they provide the required visibility for small and big businesses. And everyday, these social media platforms are making it easy to "promote" or "sponsor" their advert posts.

But, here's what I'm driving at:

Most businesses do not utilise buying advert spaces on blogs and websites in their advertising campaigns. The few that use this method, do not buy the spaces directly from the publishers or website owners. Instead, they go through Google Ads and end up spending more. It is estimated that businesses in Nigeria that use Google ads between ₦300,000 and over ₦1,000,000 monthly.

Now, you must have noticed that most blogs --- particularly informational blogs --- have specific pages titled "advertise with us." It is on such pages that publishers or website owners talk about why advertisers should choose them, the type of audience they have, and the amount of traffic and visibility that an advertising brand will receive.

This method of advertising is a very affordable method of getting quality traffic to patronize your business and/or services. Here are some of the advantages of buying advert spaces on blogs:

1. Most "serious" blogs in Nigeria get between 10K - 100K monthly visitors. Imagine placing your advert in front of these people
2. Most blogs get traffic from search engines such as Google. Because of this, advertisers receive different, fresh set of audiences each day.
3. It is cheaper than you think. You can check here for an example on BlackGeeks
4. You can negotiate prices with the website owner.
5. You can terminate the adverts at any time you wish. Payment is monthly.
6. You can get an advertising space for as low as 7K naira here.

If you still stay in Nigeria (and haven’t JAND), you must have heard this statement.

Come February, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will again be on the Ballot papers. This time in a quest to lead Nigeria from Aso rock.

Education / Re: ASUU Threatens ‘fresh Strike Action’ by Bestiepedia: 1:21am On Jan 06, 2021
Nigeria!
agwom:
The Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to commence a fresh strike action next week if the federal government fails to fulfil its own part of the agreement reached in December, 2020.

In a tweet on Monday evening, ASUU said: “FG fails to meet our Demand, Fresh Strike may begins next week.”

FG fails to meet our Demand, Fresh Strike may begins next week.

— Official__ASUU (@ASUUNNGR) January 4, 2021

In another tweet on Tuesday morning, ASUU urged the government to honour the agreement reached on December 23.

Government should honour the agreements because it will be a big surprise to Nigerians that ASUU is back on strike again if government fails to honour our demands the strike will continue!!

— Official__ASUU (@ASUUNNGR) January 5, 2021

The leadership of ASUU said it was awaiting the release of the N40 billion earned allowance the federal government promised the union, 12 days after it called off the nine-month strike.

The government, it said, had also failed to continue payment of the withheld salaries of its members that were not enrolled on the controversial Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) after paying two months in December.

ASUU called off its strike on December 23, 2020, after a new deal with the government team, led by Labour and Employment Minster Chris Ngige, on December 22.

As a sign of good faith, the government paid two months of the six months withheld salaries of ASUU members, since March last year, leaving four months arrears.

The agreement

According to the Memorandum of Action signed between the government and ASUU leadership at the meeting on December 22, the federal government agreed to release N40 billion to ASUU as earned allowance on or before December 31, 2020.

The government, through the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, was also supposed to continue the payment of the withheld salaries of the union members after Ngige got a special waiver from President Muhammadu Buhari to that effect.

But ASUU said, in Abuja, that the government had missed two timelines in the December 22, 2020 MoA with the failure to pay the N40 billion EAA and another tranche of the withheld four months salaries.
