Politics2026: Why I Want To Be Osun Governor —APC Aspirant, Babayemi by Bestwt001(op): 9:28pm On Oct 09, 2025
An aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the August 8, 2026, governorship election in Osun State, Mr Dotun Babayemi, has outlined the reasons behind his ambition to become the next governor of the state.

Babayemi said his interest in the position stemmed from his vision to strategically transform Osun into a model of development and good governance within the country.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Babayemi Campaign Office, a copy of which was obtained in Osogbo on Thursday.

The governorship hopeful, who has so far visited 200 of the 332 wards in his ongoing statewide ward-to-ward tour, said the transformation of Osun would be achievable through focused governance and purposeful leadership.

Speaking during his tour of Ward 3, Olufi, and Ward 2, Otun Balogun, both in Gbongan, Babayemi said,

“At the risk of sounding off, I dare say where others promise, I bring execution. Where politics divides, I unite. I offer the competence, integrity, and inclusiveness required to deliver real progress. With grassroots trust and global perspective, I am best positioned to win for our party and govern effectively for our people if given the opportunity.”

He lamented that, 34 years after its creation, Osun State had not made significant progress despite its abundance of human and material resources as envisioned by its founding fathers.Today, Osun State stands at a crossroads: rich in human talent, culture, and natural resources, yet burdened by unemployment, weak infrastructure, and untapped opportunities.

These reasons and the calls from our good people in and outside the state have propelled me to join the race to become the Osun State governor in 2026. More importantly, this is to enable us to chart a new direction — one that secures prosperity for every family, empowers our youth, and restores trust in governance,” he stated.

Decrying the level of degradation in the state, Babayemi called for a united effort to ensure that the APC returns to power in 2026.

“Osun cannot afford another cycle of missed opportunities. With people’s valued support, we can deliver a state where every child can dream, every youth can achieve, and every family can thrive,” he said.

He further assured that the state’s human and natural endowments would be harnessed to make Osun a strong economic support base for other states in the Southwest region.

Meanwhile, on May 17, 2025, Mr Dotun Babayemi formally declared his intention to contest the All Progressives Congress ticket for the 2026 governorship election in the state.

Babayemi said his ambition goes beyond zoning considerations, insisting that all aspirants are capable of delivering good governance. “The agitation for zoning to the West has been there for a long time. However, even if I’m from the West, I dare say that all the candidates are competent to govern this state better than the incumbent is doing,” he said, adding that he remains the most qualified among them.

US envoys head to Mideast as Trump warns Hamas against peace deal delay
Donald Trump’s son-in-law and a senior envoy were heading to Egypt Saturday to finalize hostage release details, as the US president warned he would “not tolerate delay” by Hamas in implementing a peace plan with Israel.A White House official confirmed to AFP that Jared Kushner and Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff are traveling to the region to address the finalization of details on the release of hostages and to discuss the deal pushed by the US president to bring an end to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.Trump said on his Truth Social platform late Saturday afternoon that Israel had agreed to an initial line of withdrawal in Gaza and that the information had been shared with Hamas.

“When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective, the Hostages and Prisoner Exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal,” he posted, alongside a map of the proposed line.

The Palestinian militant group on Friday reacted positively to Trump’s plan that would end two years of war, saying it was ready to release all hostages and discuss details on the deal.

Trump in turn called on Israel to “immediately” halt its bombings of the war-ravaged territory, although Washington’s chief ally in the region said Saturday its troops were still operating in Gaza.

Hours later, the enclave’s civil defense agency said at least 57 people have been killed since dawn in Israeli strikes, including 40 in Gaza City alone.

“Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off. I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

“Let’s get this done, FAST. Everyone will be treated fairly!”Trump’s proposal calls for a halt to hostilities, the release of hostages within 72 hours, a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and Hamas’s disarmament. In an interview Saturday with Axios, Trump — highlighting his behind-the-scenes diplomacy including with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — said a peace deal in Gaza was “close” and that he will push to have it finalized in coming days.

“I said, ‘Bibi, this is your chance for victory.’ He was fine with it,” Trump told the US publication. “He’s got to be fine with it. He has no choice. With me, you got to be fine.”

Trump also said his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan was “very helpful” in urging Hamas to agree to the release of hostages.

“Erdogan helped a lot. He is a tough guy, but he is a friend of mine and he was great,” Trump said.

PoliticsI Have A Mission To Unite Nigeria, Says Tinubu by Bestwt001(op): 8:48pm On Oct 04, 2025
President Bola Tinubu on Saturday reaffirmed his commitment to national unity, assuring Christian communities in northern Nigeria of his administration’s dedication to fairness and inclusivity across all faiths.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu gave the assurance during a meeting with Christian leaders at the headquarters of the Church of Christ in Nations in Jos, Plateau State.

“I have a mission to unite this country and ensure its prosperity, and we are making progress,” the President said.

While paying tribute to the late Nana Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe, mother of the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who died at the age of 83, Tinubu recalled his own family’s religious diversity as proof of his respect for all faiths.

“In our family, we have a strong Muslim background, and I married a Christian — a pastor, for that matter — and I have never forced her to change her religion,” he stated.

He urged the clergy to continue to have faith in his administration, adding that leaders have a collective responsibility to manage religious issues for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Tinubu also reiterated his government’s determination to end insecurity and revive the nation’s economy. We are defeating bandits, and we will defeat them. We will deal with them and end the farmers-herders clashes,” he said, adding that ongoing economic reforms were designed to improve the welfare of all citizens.

The President described the deceased as a devoted mother and humanitarian whose life reflected deep faith and service to her community.

Reflecting on his political journey, Tinubu recalled his past association with Plateau State, saying, “When we were coming here, Governor Caleb Mutfwang showed me one of the bungalows — the house of Ambassador Yahaya Kwande. During the SDP days, we met there to decide the fate of MKO Abiola. Today, I am grateful to be alive, and to God be the glory, to be President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to come here to bid farewell to a mother of the community.”In his remarks, the chief mourner and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described his late mother as a hardworking woman who lived on medication for 47 years.

“I am here to thank God for her life. My mother worked for twenty-four hours despite her health condition, supporting us and providing humanitarian assistance,” Yilwatda said.

He thanked the President for his emergence as APC National Chairman and pledged to uphold the trust reposed in him.

The President and Spiritual Leader of the Church of Christ in Nations, Reverend Dr Amos Mohzo, who spoke on behalf of the clergymen, expressed appreciation to Tinubu for his support of northern Christians, especially through key appointments such as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the APC National Chairman.Mohzo also commended the President for his response to insecurity in Plateau and Benue States and appealed for assistance to victims of conflicts in the North-Central.

He urged the Federal Government to facilitate the safe return of Christian communities displaced by insurgents in Borno and Adamawa who are currently taking refuge in Cameroon.

The COCIN President assured the President of the church’s unflinching support for his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The funeral prayer was attended by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio; Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; APC governors; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri; Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; and Minister of Special Duties, Zephaniah Jisalo.

Also present were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and his predecessor, Boss Mustapha; as well as former governors Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Adamu Mu’azu (Bauchi), Fidelis Tapgun (Plateau), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), and Rochas Okorocha (Imo).

Members of the APC National Working Committee, senators, members of the House of Representatives, former House Speaker Yakubu Dogara, and directors from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs also attended the funeral.

Christianity EtcVIDEO: I Kept My Eyes On Jesus, Toluwani Odukoya Opens Up On Broken Marriage by Bestwt001(op): 9:53pm On Oct 03, 2025
The Associate Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, Toluwani Odukoya, has revealed how her separation from her husband, alongside a series of personal tragedies, shaped her faith and calling in ministry.

Speaking during an interview with Truthtable, a video shared on her personal YouTube Channel, on Thursday, Odukoya disclosed that she was separated as a result of circumstances beyond her control.

She said, “I’ll say I’m separated. Most of you don’t know I’m separated and that’s actually defined or has shaped my life. It was circumstances beyond my control.

Describing her marriage, the 40-year-old likened the end of her marriage to “a death,” noting that between 2021 and 2023 she also endured the deaths of her stepmother, her father’s twin sister, and her father, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya.

Speaking further about her dissolved marriage, she stressed that separation does not always mean the people involved are bad.

“My ex-husband is a great man… but if God doesn’t ordain you guys to be together and you force-fit yourselves, the likelihood of staying together is very low,” she explained.

Despite the heartbreak, Odukoya said she embraced her pastoral calling, even when she felt unworthy. When the call came, I told God, ‘You know all the baggage I’m trying to navigate. But if you call me to serve, then maybe you’ve put something in me.’ I just decided to keep my eyes on Jesus.”She acknowledged the crucial role her family played in supporting her during those turbulent years, saying her siblings and late father stood firmly by her.

“My dad fought for me. My family encouraged me. That embrace added to my self-esteem and self-worth,” she noted.

PUNCHONLINE reports that the Senior Pastor of Fountain of Life Church, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya died on Monday, August 7, in the United States of America and his son Jimmy Odukoya, has since succeeded his father as the senior pastor of the church serving alongside his sister.

PoliticsChurch Of England Appoints First Female Archbishop Of Canterbury by Bestwt001(op): 12:03pm On Oct 03, 2025
Sarah Mullally was on Friday named the new Archbishop of Canterbury, becoming the first woman to lead the Church of England — which can trace its origins to the Roman empire — and the global Anglican community.

Her nomination by a committee tasked with finding a successor to Justin Welby, who stepped down earlier this year over an abuse scandal, has been approved by King Charles III, the UK government said.

The Church of England is the mother church of global Anglicanism. Mullally, 63, becomes the church’s 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, the first having been appointed in the late sixth century.

In a statement, the former nurse acknowledged the “huge responsibility” of her new role, but said she feels a sense of “peace and trust in God to carry me”.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the appointment of the first woman to hold the role.

“The Church of England is of profound importance to this country. Its churches, cathedrals, schools, and charities are part of the fabric of our communities,” he said in a statement, adding the new archbishop would “play a key role in our national life.”

Welby resigned after a report found the Church of England had covered up a 1970s serial abuse case and that he failed to report the abuses to authorities when they came to his attention in 2013.According to the independent probe, John Smyth, a lawyer who organised evangelical summer camps in the 1970s and 1980s, was responsible for the abuse of as many as 130 boys and young men.

Smyth died aged 75 in South Africa in 2018 while under investigation by British police. He never faced any criminal charges. The scandal shocked the UK and prompted widespread calls for reform in the Church of England, whose supreme governor is the British monarch.

The Church of England has some 20 million baptised members, but the number of regular churchgoers is estimated at just under one million, according to figures for 2022.

Mullally was appointed by King Charles III following a lengthy selection process under a former head of the MI5 domestic security service.

The Anglican Church became the established state church following King Henry VIII’s split from the Roman Catholic Church in the 1530s.

Mullally was ordained a priest in 2002 and became the first female Bishop of London in 2018.search button

PoliticsNEMA Urges Stronger Collaboration With SEMA For Effective Disaster Response by Bestwt001(op): 10:30pm On Oct 02, 2025
The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mrs Zubaida Umar, has called on State Emergency Management Agencies across the country to strengthen synergy and collaboration for more effective disaster management at the state and grassroots levels.

In a statement shared by NEMA’s official page on X on Thursday, Umar made the call at the opening of the National SEMA Conference 2025 held at the Balmoral Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

The conference was hosted by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency in collaboration with NEMA and attended by heads of SEMAs from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

In her address, Mrs Umar stressed that disaster management must evolve from reactive measures to proactive strategies.

“Emergency management can no longer be reactive—it must be predictive, preventive, and participatory,” she said. “Our citizens should not encounter us only when disaster strikes; they should see us every day, building safer communities, raising awareness, and ensuring preparedness.”

The NEMA DG described the conference as “a call to action” and urged stakeholders to prioritise the protection of lives, property, and the building of resilient communities.

She commended LASEMA for its innovation in decentralising response units, deploying technology, and mobilising communities, adding that “Lagos has shown that with vision and commitment, significant progress can be made in disaster management.”Umar also reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to strengthening early warning systems, improving data and forecasting, expanding grassroots capacity-building, and promoting transparency and accountability in all interventions.

Representing the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Hamzat, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to disaster preparedness and management. He commended NEMA and LASEMA for convening the conference and pledged continued support for collaborative disaster risk reduction initiatives.

In recognition of her leadership and contribution to disaster risk reduction, Mrs Zubaida Umar was decorated as an Honorary Member of the Risk Managers Society of Nigeria by its President, Dr Idris Abbas.

The first day of the conference featured presentations by experts including Dr. Adeleke Olusegun Pitan, who spoke on “From Risk to Readiness: Strengthening Disaster Preparedness at the Sub-National Level,” Mr. Ade Ipaye, who discussed “Legal, Policy and Revenue Reforms as Enablers of Emergency Management,” and Mr. Bamgbose Martin, who delivered a paper on “Emergency Services: A Clarion Call.”

Their presentations underscored the importance of proactive planning, strong legal frameworks, and sustainable financing in effective emergency management.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osayintolu, said the conference was designed to provide a structured platform for stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for strengthening preparedness, response, recovery, and resilience across Nigeria.

NEMA held a strategic planning workshop in June 2025 to shape its operational blueprint for disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery across Nigeria. The plan focuses on building institutional capacity, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring a rapid response to disasters

PoliticsLagos Police Begin Enforcement Of Tinted Glass Law by Bestwt001(op): 10:22pm On Oct 02, 2025
Lagos police begin enforcement of tinted glass lawThe Lagos State Police Command said it has begun full enforcement of the law on vehicle-tinted glass from Thursday, October 2, 2025.

In a statement signed on Thursday by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command said the exercise is in line with existing laws and directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

“In view of the above, vehicle owners who are yet to register are strongly advised to obtain the approved Tinted Glass Permit at http://possap.gov,ng,” the statement urged.

It added, “Those who are not desirous of obtaining the Tinted Glass Permit are advised to remove such tints or replace the factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, as legally provided by the Motor Vehicles ( Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.

“Vehicles with tinted glasses without a permit will be impounded, and offenders will be prosecuted.”

The PPRO urged motorists to always be ready to present their documents when requested.

“While the Command continues to enforce general traffic and safety regulations, motorists are advised to always carry their essential documents and to cooperate with officers during lawful stop-and-search operations,” she said.Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh ordered officers and supervisors to uphold standards during stop-and-search operations.

He warned that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action, with supervising officers held vicariously liable.

“The exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to guarantee everyone’s security,” he said.

The command thanked residents for their cooperation and reiterated its commitment to professionalism, fairness and respect for citizens’ rights during the enforcement exercise.

PUNCH Online reports that the directive comes under the authority of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004, a law intended to bolster security and curb criminal behaviour.

Under the new mandate, all vehicles with tinted windows are expected to carry valid and verifiable permit documents, which must be presented whenever requested by law enforcement.

Earlier today, the Zone Five Police Command, located in the South-south Geo-political Zone, comprising Edo and Delta, also said it has begun enforcing the ban on the unauthorised use of sirens and tinted glass permit regulations.

PoliticsYPP Gov Candidate, Soludo’s Aide Bicker Over N3bn Security Vote by Bestwt001(op): 8:21pm On Sep 27, 2025
The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party in the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has alleged that the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, receives about N3 billion every month as security vote, yet insecurity continues to ravage the state.

Speaking on Arise TV, Chukwuma said it was disturbing that such huge funds had not translated into improved safety for the people.

He faulted the inability of the current administration in the state to stem the tide of killings, kidnappings and other violent crimes, despite the massive allocation, saying the situation shows either a lack of strategy or political will to address insecurity in the state.

The YPP candidate promised that if elected governor, his administration would prioritise security and adopt what he termed “going back to the basics” in tackling the menace.

He said, “Anambra State Government collects in the neighbourhood of N3 billion monthly as security vote, yet insecurity continues unabated in our dear state.

“As a government, we will channel security votes directly into security-related expenditures.”

He listed among his priorities the establishment of a 24/7 emergency helpline, installation of CCTV cameras across the state linked to a centralised surveillance centre, modernisation of police stations, provision of durable patrol vehicles with trackers and communication gadgets, as well as the creation of 21 service centres with fuelling stations across the local governments for vehicle maintenance. He further promised to procure firearms, drones, trackers and other policing equipment, alongside additional training and allowances for policemen posted to Anambra, with a minimum four-year service requirement similar to the Lagos model.

“Community vigilantes would be trained for neighbourhood watch duties but placed under the supervision of police stations in their areas. These measures are not only achievable but also affordable if funds are properly utilised.

“When you do the maths, you will realise these are totally doable. What Anambra needs is a leader who understands what must be done and, more importantly, has the will to do it. I am that man,” he added.

He insisted that Soludo has either failed to understand how to systematically tackle insecurity or lacks the resolve to act decisively, adding, “The path to a secure Anambra begins with local government autonomy and prudent use of security votes.”

However, the Senior Special Assistant to the Soludo on New Media, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, defended the administration’s spending on security, insisting that the N3bn monthly security votes are a figment of the YPP’s candidate’s imagination. He argued that the state government has done well in tackling insecurity through supporting and equipping security agencies, strengthening local vigilante groups, and providing logistics for joint security operations across Anambra.

“Paul Chukwuma is an attention seeker. He relies on the mention of Soludo to gain relevance, but that still does not stop the fact that he is very irrelevant in the scheme of the November 8 governorship election. The alleged N3bn monthly security votes is a figment of his imagination. Not to my knowledge of such,” Opara added.

Although Soludo has constantly maintained that while challenges remain, his government has made significant progress in restoring peace in many troubled parts of the state, especially in areas hitherto held hostage before his administration.

He stressed that while security remains a top priority of his administration, a huge achievement has been made in security.

Meanwhile, the YPP candidate took his campaign train to Mgbakwu, Awka North LGA.

During the campaign tour, he said the first problem with Awka North is connectivity among communities in the LGA.

“This is a major challenge. We shall confine this experience to history. We shall make it easy for all communities in Awka North to become easily accessible from one point to another.

“We are also aware of the network difficulty facing diverse parts of Awka North. We shall put an end to it.Awka North gets a revenue of between N8 billion and N9 billion yearly, from federal allocation. Since the inception of the current administration in Anambra, Awka North has received over N30 billion as federal allocation. Yet, communities in Awka North are neglected by the present Anambra State Government.

“This is why some farmlands have been taken over by criminal elements. A lot of our brothers and sisters in Awka North are farmers. They can’t go to their farms. Today in Anambra State, our farmers are totally ignored, and they get zero support from the State Government. We shall support our farmers immensely to enhance production and build their capacity to export their produce.

“Our government has an eye on Awka North, and we shall fix this local government,” he added.
