Foreign AffairsRe: EU Has Paid Russia 35 Billion Euro For Fossil Fuels Since Ukraine War Started by Betscoreodds: 5:39pm On Apr 07, 2022
Biodun556:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsweek.com/eu-paid-russia-16bn-fossil-fuels-since-start-ukraine-war-1689448%3famp=1

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European Union has paid over $16 billion (€15 billion) to Moscow for fossil fuel imports

More than $5 million was paid for oil imports, around $9.5 million spent on gas, and over $385 million went to coal imports.

The data has been shared by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), an independent research organization, currently tracking how much money is still flowing from the EU's finances into the Kremlin's pockets.

To estimate the volume of fossil fuel shipments from Russia to Europe, CREA looked at the aggregate cargo capacity of ships leaving Russian ports towards EU ports, and combined that with data on reported import volume and prices (based on average value and historic prices).

"As you can see from the breakdown, gas is still the number one (import), then comes oil and then comes coal," said Lauri Myllvirta, Lead Analyst, CREA. "For both oil and coal, the shipments have fallen after the outbreak of the war [but] gas has actually increased."

Europe's dependence on Russia to keep its economy running and its homes warm has been harshly criticized since Russian troops started building up at the border of Ukraine before the start of the full-scale invasion of February 24.

According to the latest data available from the European Commission, in 2019 Europe relied on Russia for 41.1 percent of its gas imports, 46.7 percent of its solid fuels imports, and 26.9 percent of its crude oil imports.

Last year, when the first signs of tension at the Ukraine-Russia border were emerging, the EU imported 155 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Russia, almost half of its total gas imports, according to the International Energy Agency.

The answer to your question is very simple.

Visa. Just visa

Haven’t you seen people hear answering that question ? That between US visa and Russia visas, which one will you choose?
To them, they believe US has produced more african millionaires in diaspora than an other fccking country.
They have relatives in the west sending home dollars, pounds and euros and they see how they ball when they come home in Decembers.
It is believed most people that go to India, china, Russia etc are all strugglers who barely make anything tangible.
So why do we want to fall a nation as US that as made more peoples’ lives better? If not that we are enemies of progress.
Unfortunately for them, what they don’t know is that the core reason why they are suffering, why Africa and co are suffering is because the west have created a system for us to rely on them. Thereby making them richer and richer and we won’t have a choice than want to leave our homelands they are manipulating and influencing by proxy to subdue us.
It is a crazy world.
Many people can’t see how the west are killing us and influencing our decision making by proxy through their established institutions like IMF, World bank, ICJ, World Trade Center etc. and also deliberately giving us more loans and loans they know we can never pay back just to have our neck deep in their butt hole and regularly subject us to devaluations and inflations.
Preach.... Tell them.

Anyone that thinks Putin went into this fight without preparation is daft, to put it bluntly. There are countries that by virtue of their existence, are superpowers; Russia and China are such countries. Russia is the most commodity rich country on the planet, its one of the few countries that can implement autarky.

If you listened to western media only, you'll get the impression that the Russians are suffering immeasurably, that they are a pariah state and the world hates them. But its a lie. Its only the western country led by the US (alongside South Korea and Japan) that are against the Russians, people that makes up less than 15% of humanity. The whole world have nothing against Russians and are secretly cheering that they stood up to the imperialistic west that have castrated the world.

Just about six weeks weeks into the war, Russia has achieved almost all the objectives it went into the war for. Donbass have been liberated, all Ukrainian military infrastructures destroyed, the azov nazist scum are almost completely eradicated, Ukraine has accepted its neutrality, ruble has been backed by gold and not traded in usd (same thing Gadaffi was trying to do, but was killed by the west), and it's only a matter of time, other of their objectives such as recognition of crimea and the Donbass region will be a reality.

The west is not your friends Africans, they enslaved you, called you subhuman, colonised your ancestors and created human zoos with Africans in it all around Europe. The Russians and China many of you hate haven't done any of these things to you, and they genuinely supported the independence of African countries during colonial period. Just less than twenty years when China became wealthy, they have sponsored infrastructure all around Africa, but the west never did that for centuries they were wealthy.

Smell the coffees folks. I repeat, the, white man is not your friend. Your history with Europe is filled with pain, sorry, loss of heritage, inferiority and everything negative. How you support their imperialistic aim is stupid because it may be the Russians today, but it will be your tomorrow. It was Libya few years ago, Burkina Faso when Lumumba was killed, and Nigeria in 1993 when presidential aspirant MKO Abiola was poisoned with tea when US secretary of state visited him.

Now for the lovers of everything western, I will ask you on simple question. Please tell me how exactly has the west made your life good? I want to know.
Well said.

The one that was delayed was delayed last year and not today. By October it will be operational

The one tested this week was a different hypersonic weapon and it was carried out successfully.

Air Force delays hypersonic missile program after flight test 'anomalies'
By Oren Liebermann, CNN
Updated 7:45 AM ET, Thu April 7, 2022

Military analyst: Hypersonic missile tests are a counter to Putin's threats 01:07
(CNN)The Air Force delayed its hypersonic missile program by up to a year after "recent flight test anomalies" pushed back the schedule for the weapon's completion, according to a statement from the Air Force.

The AGM-183 Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW) was supposed to reach early operational capability, an important milestone in weapon testing and development, before October. But following a series of failures in flight tests last year, the Air Force postponed the first test of the complete missile and booster to sometime in the next fiscal year, which begins in October. More tests will follow later in the year, the Air Force said.
"The ARRW production decision remains event-driven and will occur after operational utility is demonstrated through successful system end-to-end flight tests," the Air Force said.

The ARRW missile, built by Lockheed Martin, is designed to destroy "high-value, time-sensitive targets," according to the Air Force. It is also supposed to enable the military to quickly strike a well-defended target on land.
The delay in the program, first reported by Bloomberg, comes as lawmakers have voiced growing frustration about the US falling behind adversaries like China and Russia in hypersonic weapons development.

EU's full ban on Russian coal to be pushed back to mid-August: source

European Union flags fly outside the European Commission headquarters in Brussels, Belgium (REUTERS)
European Union envoys are set to approve on Thursday a ban on Russian coal that would take full effect from mid-August, a month later than initially proposed, an EU source told Reuters, following pressure from Germany to delay the measure.

The phase-out of EU imports of Russian coal is the cornerstone measure in a fifth package of sanctions against Russia that the EU Commission proposed this week, as a reaction to atrocities in the Ukrainian town of Bucha.

Once approved, it will be the EU's first ban on any import of energy from Russia since the start of what the Kremlin calls a "special operation" in Ukraine on February 24.

Oil and gas, which represent far bigger imports from Moscow, are still untouched.

Much of Europe's buying of Russian coal is in the spot market, rather than long-term contracts. Those spot purchases would be halted immediately after sanctions are imposed.

The EU Commission had initially proposed a wind-down period of three months for existing contracts, meaning that Russia could effectively still export coal to the EU for 90 days after sanctions were imposed, according to a document seen by Reuters.

But that period has been extended to four months, a source familiar with the discussions told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

That followed pressure mostly from Germany, the EU's main importer of Russian coal.

With sanctions expected to take effect later this week, or early the next, after publication in the EU official journal, Russian companies will effectively be able to export coal to the EU until mid-August under existing contracts.

One diplomat said most coal contracts were short term, and a wind-down period of 90 days would have allowed most of them to be concluded without the need for cancellation, avoiding legal risks.

Despite being slightly watered down from the initial proposal, the EU's planned ban on Russian coal is more ambitious than Britain's, which has said it planned to ban coal imports from Russia by the end of the year.

The EU Commission has estimated the coal ban could cost Russia 4 billion euros ($4.36 billion) a year in lost revenue.

The Commission declined any immediate comment.

China will respond with 'resolute and forceful measures' if Pelosi visits Taiwan
PLA always well prepared; relevant US politicians could be sanctioned: expert
By Yang Sheng , Wang Qi and Guo Yuandan
Published: Apr 07, 2022 04:43 PM Updated: Apr 07, 2022 09:03 PM

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian

If US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits the island of Taiwan, as some media have reported, China will definitely respond with "resolute and forceful measures," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday. Chinese experts said China will and must retaliate; otherwise the US will make more provocations in the future, and the consequences that could be caused by the potential visit would bring a "disruptive impact" on the foundation of China-US relations.

The reports that "Pelosi is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan on Sunday" after her trip to Japan later this week in a show of support for Taiwan amid "concerns over cross-Straits relations following the Russia-Ukraine crisis" have been seen on Taiwan media and Fuji News Network on Thursday, but neither the office of Pelosi nor the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority on the island have confirmed or denied such reports.

However, China takes the information seriously. Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a routine press conference on Thursday that if Pelosi visits the island, "it would bring serious damage to the foundation of China-US relations, and would send the wrong messages to the Taiwan secessionists. China firmly opposes it and has already lodged solemn representations to the US."

"China would respond with resolute and forceful measures, and all ensuing consequences would be borne solely by the US" if the visit takes place, Zhao noted.

Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, also said in a statement on Thursday, "We warn the DPP authority that it should immediately stop any collusion with foreign forces to seek secessionism, and all crimes that it has made will be punished eventually."

The measures will not be the same as the ones provoked by previous trips to the island made by lower-level or former US officials, said analysts, stressing that the response will and must be forceful enough to effectively warn the US about the seriousness of challenging the political foundation of China-US relations.

Chinese President Xi Jinping told US President Joe Biden on March 18 during a video call requested by the latter that mishandling the Taiwan question will have a disruptive impact on bilateral ties. "China hopes that the US will give due attention to this issue," the Xinhua News Agency reported.

As Biden has reiterated that the US does not seek to have a new cold war with China, to change China's system, or to revitalize alliances against China, and that the US does not support "Taiwan independence" or intend to seek a conflict with China, "I take these remarks very seriously," Xi said.

Chinese experts said if Pelosi visits the island, the consequences would be much more serious than Newt Gingrich's visit to Taiwan in 1997. Because although Gingrich was the sitting House Speaker, he was a Republican while the then Bill Clinton administration was Democratic. But this time, both Pelosi and Biden are Democrats, and Pelosi won't be able to make the trip if Biden opposes it, and this would mean that the Biden administration is cheating China since Biden has failed to keep his promises.

The international issues that require China-US cooperation like mediating the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Iranian nuclear deal, Korean Peninsula issue, climate change, and world economic recovery, as well as preventing a global financial crisis and food crisis, will be interrupted, said analysts.

Biden's acquiescence and connivance with Pelosi's trip to the island of Taiwan is seen in China as undermining America's commitment to the one-China principle, said Diao Daming, associate

Another Taiwan Straits crisis?

"The signal sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is very clear. Next, we can focus on what actions would be made by other relevant departments and ministries, especially the People's Liberation Army [PLA]. More forceful measures are necessary to deter the US from making more risky and extreme moves on the Taiwan question," said Li Haidong, a professor from the China Foreign Affairs University.

The countermeasures would include military and non-military ones, said experts. Song Zhongping, a Chinese military expert and TV commentator, said the PLA doesn't need to specifically set special plans ahead of the reported visit, because "the PLA is always prepared and has conducted relevant training all the time."

"Apart from military actions, China could also sanction US officials who visit the island," Song noted.

The predictions are based on the hypothetical prerequisite - whether the Pelosi trip to Taiwan takes place. Hopefully, the US could stay reasonable and a crisis could be avoided. But if it takes place, the US will have to face another Taiwan Straits crisis that it cannot handle, said experts.

Lü Xiang, a research fellow on US studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, told the Global Times on Thursday that sending military aircraft across the island is highly likely and the missions could take place in multiple areas over the island.

"The PLA could even establish a no-fly zone over the island to prove China's sovereignty over the island. The PLA Air Force and Navy are capable of conducting such missions, and if Taiwan military forces dare to interrupt, they will pay a heavy price as well," said a Beijing-based military expert who asked for anonymity.

"The US decision-makers need to understand that the more provocations they make, the more resolute China will be in preparing to solve the Taiwan question by non-peaceful means," as the US side and the Taiwan secessionists will make the Chinese mainland lose faith in peaceful resolution of the question. When the conditions get mature, the PLA will take actions to solve the problem once and for all, Song said.

Pelosi is reportedly concerned about a "change of the status quo by force," but her reported visit will definitely force China to take further actions aimed at reunifying the island by force, Lü noted.

According to media reports, Pelosi's visit will commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the Taiwan Relation Act, a US law that violates the principles for China and the US to establish diplomatic ties. And this act has maintained the unlawful arm sales from the US to the island and gives space for Taiwan secessionists to hold wishful thinking that expect the US to defend the island by force against the reunification of China, said experts.

"The PLA will take powerful measures, resolutely defeat all kinds of foreign force interference and Taiwan secessionist attempts and firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Senior Colonel Tan Kefei, spokesperson of China's Ministry of National Defense, said in a statement on Thursday.

Confidence and patience

However, if the US intends to make itself a safe haven for international capital flows by pushing China to retaliate and cause another crisis in Asia while the Russia-Ukraine crisis is troubling Europe, China won't be made use of so easily, said analysts.

The retaliation doesn't necessarily mean an all-out military operation to solve the Taiwan question, as China has confidence and patience to push reunification based on its own schedule, experts noted.

Compared to China's calmness, the US is being very cautious. "Unlike previous US officials' and lawmakers' Taiwan visits, which were announced in advance, Pelosi's rumored visit was only released by Japanese media, and no other Washington-related sources and US media have been leading the way," Diao said. "This is very strange."

"If the tour is to mark the 43th anniversary of the Taiwan Relation Act as what the media reported, it would be time to make a high-profile visit, rather than try to keep it a secret. If there is still no response from Pelosi in the next 24 hours, the US attitude would be in question," Diao noted.

Chinese experts said despite the Taiwan question and the Ukraine crisis being entirely different in nature, similarities lie in the Biden administration's manipulation on the two events.

The US keeps Europe close to Washington by stirring up the Ukraine crisis and playing up "Russian threats," said Diao. "It also fans the flames on the Taiwan question and plays up the 'China threat' to advance its Indo-Pacific Strategy."

Lü said US politicians in Washington want to show that they are not begging China for cooperation when they are facing trouble with Russia, and by making more provocations on the Taiwan question, they want to stress that the US is not giving up on the Indo-Pacific Strategy and will stay tough against China.

But such a strategy that could make the US confront China and Russia at the same time could eventually overdraft the national strength of the US and makes Washington pay a heavy price, said analysts.

The US should learn from the Ukraine crisis "what would happen when pushing a great power into a corner," Xin said.

I love America too, and I will prefer them to remain powerful, but not with absolute power.

If anyone think America is fighting for Ukraine, they are deceiving themselves.
America is fighting to destroy the only country, that's preventing them from having absolute power. The military might of Russia is of great concern.

America practice democracy at home, but on the international stage, they practice dictatorship. They have little or no respect for the UN, they have even threatened the UN and its affiliates on numerous occasions.

America respects sovereignty of a nation, for as long as the nation is serving their interests. Once you fall out of line, and you refuse to fall back in line...... Forget it.

A unipolar world is dangerous for everyone of us.
Precisely.

There is no way he planned well, for sure he miscalculated. He didn't see it coming, now he is pausing and halting operations, to save Russia's economy first, save his seat and his country. He didn't calculate well enough. This is actually the game plan of the west, as they wouldn't want any physical war with any one, as everyone looses, even if you win your opponent and he/she surrenders.

So now he will be very busy replanning and rescheduling to save his economy first, then the physical war will be pending.

The west is definitely smarter, they know no one gains in war, this is what Putin should have done, tactically cripple Ukraine and achieve his aim, that any physical war in this century will be frowned at by all, especially in Europe.

Europeans get sense die and they like themselves too. Not like us wey we no even like ourselves and want our own good.
You are talking what has no value.

Ukraine capital the military placed mine field everywhere so you can only enter if you carpet bomb the place which is not what Russia wants so they surround the capital for days until Ukraine said they won't join nato again and that Russia should show a good faith to them by pulling out of the capital.

I know western media won't tell you this because you don't know what up.

Now Russia took Donbass and one other city and muriopol now Ukraine said they want it back which is now the borne of contention.

Yes, rescued the Ruble but lets be sincere give me the choice of Ruble or USD or even GBP or Euro the Russian Ruble will be the least of my choice and many of us.

Putin is evil. His invasion of Ukraine is a failure and has cost massive loss of lives. All because of his ego and greed and lust for power. What he has destroyed lives and properties is priceless.

I pray Nigeria's neighbours do not behave like Putin. If countries have issues let them learn to talk.

One leasson learnt is Nigeria and every country needs to have a strong army . Would Russia have invaded USA if USA was their neighbour or would Putin have invaded Ukraine if Ukraine was militarily strong? But e shock them.

Children have died. Let him fight USA or BRitain or even China because they offended him or a threat to him. He wont. Putin is a cowa

Nope they said. Russian official source, Ukraine lost: 125 planes, 88 aircraft and 381 drones. Also, destroyed were 1888 tanks and AFVs, 205 missile systems, 795 artillery pieces, and 1771 utility vehicles.... Beautiful news

Around 85% of Ukraine military facilities have been taken out.

"On the evening of April 4, sea-based high-precision long-range weapons near the town of Ochakiv destroyed a training center for Ukrainian Special Operations Forces, which was used, among other things, to accommodate foreign mercenaries," said Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, Russian Ministry of Defense spokesperson. Konashenkov added, without elaborating, that Russian forces struck fuel depots in the cities of Krements, Cherkasy, Zaporizhzhia, and Novomoskovsk.

The strike was carried out by an unidentified surface ship belonging to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, which reportedly fired a salvo of seven Kalibr cruise missiles at the facility in question. Russian officials did not immediately say if any Ukrainian servicemen or foreign volunteers were killed by the attack.

Russian forces first bombed the Ukrainian naval base of Ochakiv in the opening stages of the Ukraine invasion, seriously wounding at least four soldiers and destroying several pieces of military infrastructure. Russian president Vladimir Putin singled out Ochakiv, known in Russian as Ochakov, in his February 21 speech recognizing the breakaway Ukrainian Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, framing it as a staging point for potential NATO aggression against Russia. “I will add that the Naval Operations Center in Ochakov, built by the Americans, makes it possible to ensure the actions of NATO ships, including the use of high-precision weapons by them against the Russian Black Sea Fleet and our infrastructure along the entire Black Sea coast,” Putin said.

In 2019, the United States announced plans to upgrade the Ochakiv Naval Base. The effort reportedly included reinforcing existing piers and adding new ship repair facilities, as well as maritime operations centers from which NATO and Ukrainian forces could direct exercises and coordinate joint movements. The announcement drew sharp condemnation from the Kremlin, which expressed concerns that the naval base could be used to threaten Russia’s control over the Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

Earlier this month, the Russian military promised to target and destroy all foreign “mercenaries'' fighting for Ukraine. "We know all locations of foreign mercenaries in Ukraine. More surgical strikes will continue to be delivered against them, like the one carried out on March 13 against the training centers in Starichi and at the Yavorovsky proving ground," Konashenkov said. On March 13, Russian forces struck Ukraine’s Yavoriv military facility, located some fifteen miles from the Polish border, allegedly killing 180 foreign volunteers. The Kremlin previously said that “mercenaries”—the term it uses to describe foreign fighters volunteering for Ukraine—are not covered by the Geneva Convention and thus will not be afforded any of the legal protections governing the treatment of combatants.

Your problem is that you can not stand by the truth.. You think i hate USA while I told you I stood against Russia when they wanted to put missiles in Cuba.

You probably did not read that part or even understand it because all you know is that you want to stop Russia without balancing the issue.

Are you not ashamed to say you are not interested in what USA did wrong you can't be a good judge.

You want to kill Russia when those who you support have killed more people than Russia.

Are you not ashamed to support USA who destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki two big cities.

You can't repent from your ways and you can't stand on the right side.

Am not supporting Russia what am saying is USA and nato have no moral right to condemn putin when they are the chief killers.

Any way when you get your head right and think properly I will know.

Russia NEVER had black slaves nor did Russia create a market to trade black people. Russia NEVER participated in the Berlin conference to share Africa like some piece of goat meat. Russia NEVER colonised, underdeveloped and looted Africa's resources. Russia NEVER enabled a safety net for African leaders to hide stolen funds, use these stolen funds to develop itself and then grant the same funds back to Africa as loans. Russia never invaded and destabilized any African country Those who did the aforementioned are the ones pushing the narrative that "Russia" has become the Boogeyman... Those who colonized and for about 100 years refused to share their technology with Africa want Africa to like those they like and hate those they hate. Nah! Never again! If Russia is the Boogeyman, then the west the devil himself

God bless putin God bless mother Russia.
