Russia's invasion of Ukraine should prompt a re-examination of NATO's permanent presence in eastern Europe, the U.S. general that serves as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe told Congress on Wednesday.

Asked about the possibility of a more permanent presence of U.S. troops in the Baltics and elsewhere, Air Force General Tod Wolters said: "It's got to change."

"And certainly this is an opportunity as a result of this senseless act on behalf of Russia, to re-examine the permanent military architecture that exists not only in Eastern Europe, but in our air policing activity in aviation and in our standing naval maritime groups," he said.

A teacher was killed by a female colleague and her nieces after a relative dreamt she had insulted the Prophet Mohammed, Pakistan police said today.

The two students and a teacher ambushed Safoora Bibi yesterday at the main gate of the all-girls school and attacked her with a knife and stick, officers said.

'She died after her throat was slit,' police official Saghir Ahmed said.

The two girls told police a relative had dreamt the dead woman 'had committed blasphemy' against the Prophet Mohammed, officers said, adding they were also investigating if the main suspect, Umra Aman, had a personal grudge.

Aman is a colleague who planned the crime with her two nieces studying at the Jamia Islamia Falahul Binaat school, police said.

Azeem Khan, another police official, confirmed the details.

The incident took place Tuesday in Dera Ismail Khan in the country's ultra-conservative northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province that borders Afghanistan.

The killing is the latest in the country related to the hugely sensitive issue of blasphemy. Few issues in Pakistan are as galvanising, and even the slightest suggestion of an insult to Islam can supercharge protests and incite lynchings.

Known as madrassas, religious schools have long served as vital lifelines for millions of impoverished children in Pakistan, where social services are chronically underfunded.

But critics say students can be brainwashed by hardline clerics who prize rote learning of the Koran over core subjects such as maths and science.

Rights groups say Pakistan's blasphemy laws are often wielded to settle personal vendettas.

Aneeqa Ateeq, 26, was arrested in May 2020 and charged with posting 'blasphemous material' as her WhatsApp status, according to court documents.

The Centre for Social Justice - an independent group advocating for the rights of minorities - says at least 84 people were accused of committing blasphemy last year, and three people were killed by lynch mobs over similar allegations.

Feared Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov took his rifle-toting son, 14, to war when he lead Russia's bloody assault on Mariupol, it has emerged.

The boy, named Adam, is seen in video footage donning military clothing while being given a tour of a hospital by his autocrat father - a close ally of Vladimir Putin - in the ravaged Ukrainian port city.

Kadyrov, 45, said he wanted his son, who is one of 12 children, 'to learn first hand about the successes and needs of our comrades-in-arms', and also made clear he disagrees with Russia's move to lessen the military pressure on Kyiv, instead vowing to lead an invasion of the capital.

Footage has emerged of a huge explosion in Belgorod, western Russia, at the site of a suspected arms depot which is believed to have been hit by a Ukrainian missile.

The blast, which took place a mere 12 miles from the Russian-Ukrainian border near the village of Krasniy Oktyabr just outside the city of Belgorod, triggered a series of firework-like explosions which could be seen from Ukraine tonight.

Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov claimed that the depot was destroyed by an OTR-21 Tochka-U ballistic missile fired by the Ukrainian 19th missile brigade, though this has not yet been confirmed by Ukrainian officials.

If the missile strike is confirmed by Ukraine's armed forces, it will be just the second Ukrainian strike on Russian territory since the start of the war after the Millerovo airbase was attacked in late February.

The Governor of Belgorod Vyacheslav Gladkov meanwhile confirmed reports of the explosion and said that no Russian citizens were hurt, but refused to shed any light on the reason for the blast.

'Explosions were heard on the territory of Belgorod and the Belgorod region,' Gladkov said.

'The incident took place near the village of Krasniy Oktyabr. The head of the village is in direct contact with me and has given me all the information. There are no casualties or injuries among the residents.'

'I'll post the reason for this later,' he added.

However, a source from Russian news agency TASS said that four Russian military personnel were injured, suggesting the target was indeed of military significance.
