Travel / Re: UK Skilled Worker Visa / Health And Care Worker Visa / Qualified Teacher Route by bharkarh(m): 12:56pm
Hi everyone,

Home Office contacted me via email that I needed to pay more for my visa application by providing my card details to a payment slip and send to worksponsoreddocumentrequests@homeoffice.gov.uk which I have done.

My worry now is they are yet to deduct this sum from my account and I was given 10 days to do this else my visa application becomes invalid.

Has anybody experienced this and how long did it take them (HO) to deduct the money from his/her account?

This is a good resource to get more detail. All you have do is choose a broker/platform, sign up, decide on it to buy funds or individual shares and how to do that (I.e manually or recurring direct debit). I buy funds so I don't bother about the price of individual stocks. Investengine and Trading212 are about the most competitive for most people now. Both have mobile apps you could onboard with. Trading212 has the added advantage of paying competitive interest on cash not yet invested and they're also giving a cashback on any sum invested this year which is why I used them this year. Investengine has a cleaner app.

This https://monevator.com/compare-uk-cheapest-online-brokers/ is a good comparison of brokers with all the technical bits involved.

I would typically not respond to PMs not out of spite but mainly to maintain my privacy. You could mention me on an old thread in a 'dead' section of NL
makes sense. Thank you

A good thing about the UK is the generous savings allowance each person has i.e the amount of money you can save or invest yearly without ever paying tax on the gains. It's currently 20k (25k from next year). This is about the most tax efficient means of saving and since most wouldn't maximise it, no need to look further.

1. LISA. The govt gives you 1k. Total you can put in in 4k per year. You also have the option of cash LISA or stock and shares LISA
2. Cash ISA- fixed or flexible if looking to buy soon. The returns had been low until just recently. Now interest rates are falling, the interest on them would also fall. If you are not looking to buy immediately and have spare cash around, then this might be a good time to lock in better rates for 6m - 2 yrs https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/best-cash-isa/

3. Stock and share ISA- Personally, I'd say if your timeframe is above 3yrs, this might be a better option. It comes with the risk that unlike a cash option, you might lose money but overtime, the market tends to trend up and should well outperform interest on cash. Your time treshold (e.g 3 or 5 years) would all depend on your risk appetite. Most global indexes have historically yielded 5-8% above inflation on average which cash would not come close to. To give an example, a while ago, I was looking to buy within a 2 year window used the cash isa offerings (in addition to LISA) and got upto 3k at least aside LISA bonus over the period I was in. Now, I'm looking at a rental and chucked the sum saved in a global fund as I'm not bothered about how soon or not I do it. I've attached the portfolio screenshot (shaded area= net contributions). It's up 13% within a year. Cash over this time would have been 3% max. Infact if you asked me 2 weeks ago, the returns were over 20%. It's that volatility you don't have with cash.

N.B. putting 4k in a LISA leaves you with 16k balance for the rest. You could split between all three if undecided.
P.S. I see you are also on the UK to Canada bus-stop. Also worth considering but don't let it deter you too much
thank you for this detailed explanation. I have opened the LISA account with Moneybox. I still don’t know how to go about the stock/share ISA.

Can I PM you?

Hmm.. might be worth asking them what it'd take to satisfy AML. A letter from each of them stating the reason?

I wonder if a different solicitor might see things differently. Perhaps others could throw share views.
Reason why I've not been a fan of 'adashe' in the UK. There are good saving options where you could even earn interest.

Ignore exemption if you want a positive evaluation from WES. Don't go flp route. Register to take CIMA from the foundation level (certificate in business Ba1-ba4). Ignore exemption. You can reach out below for study material (covers everything you need to pass Ba1-ba4) mock questions and answers, study text, exams illustrations and answers... the exam is all repeated questions, all you need is a good study resources.
I don’t need it for the evaluation anymore. I will use the MSc. However, I want to study for the exam regardless.

I just want to do the CIMA because it aligns with my profession, CIMA advised that I go through the FLP route but I don’t know if it would acceptable to work with in Canada because of the exemptions. Do you have any info about this?

Your b.Sc is not two or more certs

It is your b.sc PLUS the CIMA certificate that is two or more certificates
They have to be evaluated together

And your best bet is WES
I used the University of Ontario for my evaluation.

If you're gunning for the French category, she should be the main applicant.
Check the CRS tool to know your possible points. You can see whose points will be higher as main applicants. It may be yours. But, her points may still be high enough for French category, which will definitely be fastest. I explained this in a previous quote.

Also, is 'conversion with University of Ontario' acceptable as ECA for Canada? If not, it won't be useful.

I was told it’s acceptable.

You don't really need to do much because you are on the right part:

Does ur wife have a masters degree? If yes she can stand in as the principle applicant. So, all u guys need to do are as follows

-Get both of ur masters degrees verified by WES.
-Both of you need to prepare and take the IELTS General test (pls aim for high scores in listening, reading, writing qnd speaking. Minimum of 8 in listening, 7 in reading, 7 in writing and 7.5 in speaking. It would be perfect if u get 7.5 in reading and 7.5 in writing cos the higher ur scores the higher your CRS in language.
-Since ur wife studied french, she willdo better in the TEF Canada exam. And that's why i suggested her to be the pricipal applicant (hope she is not more dan 30, cos if she is then you should be d principal applicant, there will be a drop in age for you guys)
-The relative u av in Canada, is it a sister or brother? It has to be an immediate family member for you to av additional in ur CRS score)
-I will advise you take the Ielts and do ur WES first, afterwich u create an express entry profile and enter d pool. You can always update ur profile with ur TEF result wen it is out.

Fortunately they do the french draw on a reg, and u both qualify, coupled with d fact dat u stand a higher chance too with the general draw.

I wish you guys all d luck u can get.

She holds a B.ed and will be 30 in May.
The sister is my immediate
I hold the MSc.
I have converted my result with University of Ontario (as it was cheaper)
Should she still be the main applicant?

YOu seem in good position to get ITA and quality. But bros, nobody can help you as much as you can help yourself. You'd need to start on Page 1 of the Express Entry thread and work through what you need to gather as requirements. That's what everybody did, even those who had never heard of the program. Information on Page 1 has been carefully collated over the years by different people with amazing expertise. Honestly, I don't know anywhere else on the internet where you can get as much detailed information on this process specific to Nigerian applicants. I encourage you to go to the Page1 on that thread, read through, and figure out what you need to qualify.

Your wife speaks French. That's already a massive advantage right there that could qualify you and your spouse under the French category. You also have a masters degree. That's another advantage. You look set, but you need to put in the work.
thanks bro, could you please help me with the link to the express entry, I don’t mind starting from pg1. Thanks

Hello,

To simplify things, I'll say that you should go through this link.
https://www.nairaland.com/6829885/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled#107239666

But, since you already made some details about you and your wife, I would advise that you a should get into the pool with the plan of getting into the French category. This category is one of the fastest at the moment. In that case, your wife should take the French exam while you take the English. I also think she should be the main applicant since you have similar duration of work experience.
What I mean is this, someone may have higher points as main applicant than if their spouse is the main applicant. But if their spouse is the one with the French proficiency, that French would be the significant factor in getting invited. Because people get invited even with points less than 400 simply because they speak French. While many with 500 are still waiting.

So, start by reading through that link above. But, quickly do these
1. Your wife should write the French exam
2. You should write English Test (CELPIP General.and
PTE Core tests are suggested as simpler)
3. You both should do a WES Evaluation (ECA) of your highest degree.
You need these 3 to get into the pool.
With the monthly French invitations, you may get called in within a month of getting into the pool.

thank you for your response. I’d like to dm you if you don’t mind. Hoping to hear back from you.

Hi, apologies for the late response.

Yes, you meet the basic eligibility criteria by possessing an advanced degree (your master’s degree).

However, you still need to satisfy the 3 prong requirements of the national interest waiver (you can read about these 3 prong requirements in previous pages of the thread or check the USCIS policy manual).

What’s next for you is to have a “proposed endeavor”. I’ll recommend that this should be something related to your field such that you can easily relate it to your current and/or past work experience to show that you’re well-positioned to carry out this endeavor.

See links below to give you ideas of endeavors in finance, you can also do a google or YouTube search for more ideas.

If you have the extra financial resources for a lawyer, then by all means go for it. The average charge I’ve heard of in recent times has ranged between $3k-4k for the lawyers fees alone!

Alternatively, this process is also something you can put together all by yourself if you do your research very well and you’re ready to put in the work.

Below is a link that could help you to get started;

https://myeb2niw.com/

There is a DIY package on that website that goes for only $150, and trust me when I say that package has ALL that you need to get started and MORE.
N.B. I have no business links or ties with the owner of the website. You can also download the free ebook from the website.

YouTube and the internet generally has many great videos and resources for sample petition letters, recommendation letters and how to properly fill the required form(s) for EB2NIW.

Good luck to you and your spouse!

thank you for this link. I have a master’s degree in finance and accounting + a 6 year accounting work experience. Am I eligible for the EB2NIW?

Is it possible? Yes, I think it is. But then again, you have to consider what "pass" means in TEF

Unlike DELF where you write either A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2 and then pass or fail any of these levels, TEF is a singular exam that will place you on the right level based on your performance. In other words, you do not usually fail or pass TEF. The exam only grades you. Whether the outcome is acceptable or not then depends on the level required by the institution requesting for the exam. Canadian immigration is asking for CLB4 if French is presented as a second language. This can be likened to B1 according to the information I got at Alliance Francaise.

So the question is, can you attain B1 in 8 months?

Like I already answered, I believe you can. But that will take some serious dedication. Bearing in mind that your migration to Canada might depend on it should be a good source of motivation. Again, you must engage in personal studies asides class room lectures, make friends with those that speak the language and never give up even when it seems impossible. The last point is very important because there is always that point in foreign language learning where you feel you can't move on or that you are just wasting your time. Pass that stage and success is guaranteed. As they say, the seceret of learning a language is speaking the language. Speak, speak, speak. Even when it sounds horrible. It can only get better.

As for me, I was exposed to French in secondary school. I have been learning on my own since then. I wrote and passed DELF in 2013 cool

hello, I just stumbled on this thread and I think it would be good I present my issues here.

I currently live and work in the UK with my wife and looking at the possibility of moving to Canada through the express entry route.

I hold a masters degree in Finance and Accounting where I finished with a distinction and recently converted my result at the university of Toronto.

I have a 6 years accounting experience, will be 30 in July and my wife studied French where she can write and speak French.

I also have a family that lives in Canada.

I understand that the information provided above will give me good points to move to Canada but I don’t understand the processes involved.

I would appreciate it if you or anyone here could put me through on the steps to go about it.

A link would also be appreciated.

Many thanks.

I did a bit of digging as my company sponsors a few people I’m aware of and I’m pretty sure it was given as an excuse when I was hiring a direct report last year and wanted to get them to sponsor the lady. Apparently the costs differs based on company size (medium and larger companies) pay more. If you look at the table, employers can easily fall into the higher bracket. I won’t ordinarily classify my company as medium or even large but our asset base is way more £5m so I guess that’s why we had to pay the higher rates.

You do have a valid point on the sensitization. Sponsoring candidates has its benefits a lot of employers aren’t aware of. Typically the employees are locked in for 5 years so risk of attrition is lower. Also, they can’t be too aggressive in asking for a raise as well. Sadly I’ve also seen this happen with some employers who won’t give a reasonable raise or promotion for this reason. In my case, I eventually went for someone on the Ukrainian visa scheme who was equally as good.

thank you for this. Can any company sponsor one in the UK?

Pretty straightforward application to be honest.

First step is to make an online application. You need to be meticulous when filling necessary information as making any silly mistake could affect the successful outcome of the application. After the completion of your online application, you are expected to pay the Visa and IHS fees. You will be sent a GWF number and IHS reference number upon payment of the aforementioned fees.

The second step is to book an appointment with TLS. You can either upload your documents by yourself before going for the appointment or pay them to upload your documents on the day of your appointment.

Feel free to ask further questions
please what’s the site for the online application?
