nigeria FA president does not know how FIFA rankings work? something even a two-year old can easily calculate? hmmmmmmmm no wonder grin

How Does Fifa Rankings Work?-Maigari

Nigeria FA president Aminu Maigari has shockingly revealed that he does not know how the FIFA rankings work as he is unhappy over the Super Eagles’ recent showing on the table.

Like most Nigerians, Maigari is crossed over the monthly ranking by the world governing body even though FIFA has clearly outlined how it works.

Nigerians were expecting a huge rise for the Super Eagles on the table following impressive wins over Malawi and Burkina Faso.

However , Nigeria slipped down a place to 36th on the rankings, leaving the country and their FA president unhappy over the modalities used for the ranking.

“I am shocked that we dropped in the Fifa rankings, because everyone saw that we did very well this month with two very impressive victories against Malawi and Burkina Faso,” Maigari told SuperSport.

“I still don’t understand how the rankings work.”

Several other countries have also admitted in the past that they don’t know how the FIFA rankings work even though FIFA explains how teams are ranked.

The FIFA World Ranking is a ranking system for men’s national teams in association football, currently led by Spain.

The teams of the member nations of FIFA, football’s world governing body, are ranked based on their game results with the most successful teams being ranked highest.

The rankings were introduced in December 1992, and seven teams (Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain) have held the top position, of which Brazil have spent longest ranked first.

A points system is used, with points being awarded based on the results of all FIFA-recognised full international matches.

Under the existing system, rankings are based on a team’s performance over the last four years, with more recent results and more significant matches being more heavily weighted to help reflect the current competitive state of a team.

imperiouxx: I'm really happy that other Africans are scared of the name Nigeria Super Eagles now. I thought some Africans called them super chicken few months ago? I want a bias fixing in such a way that we face Ghana and clear their eyes off that world cup dream.
deep down you know that is not what you want, huh? I'll go ahead and book my flight to Brazil the moment Ghana is drawn with Nigeria. hahahahaha that's what most folks in Ghana are hoping for because playing Nigeria won't be a new thing. Most of the current Ghanaian players have played Nigeria in the past and won so they have a huge psychological boost

CFCfan: It's likely that both Naija and Ghana will be in the same pot (seeded teams), so they won't face each other. However, all that could change by tomorrow's ranking, because Ghana lost to Japan yesterday; while Nigeria beat Burkina Faso.
what a great match that will be. that is my prayer. seeding or no seeding, God please give us Nigeria! hahahahahahaha blablabla all we hear is that the nigerian team is not like before blablabla how do you prove that other than playing a team that had dominated you for the last seven years? Me I will go for Ghana v. Nigeria any day. and the winner is ................. as usual hahahahahaha Let me see you guys hit the Like button if you want a Ghana v Nigeria matchup!

Steezz: Mumu! Dats why u cant phuck simple mali and burkina faso that we phuck everyday undecided
hahaha we've been phucking burkina and mali ever since. you probably don't know we had mali in our qualifying group for the 2010 world cup. they were then coached by a guy called Steven Okechukwu Keshi. we stormed Bamako and beat them 2-0 in front of their fans. so I don't know what you are talking about. as for Burkina, they are brothers and even they know we've been flogging them for as long as they can remember. why don't you check FIFA records to know if indeed the two teams you mentioned had ever had the upper hand against Ghana? or did you start watching football only this year, at AFCON?

Davo93: Thats not a good one for Ghana at this time.

I guess their plan went the wrong way, Ghana's plan was to get a better ranking by playing Japan since they are aware of their poor and recent inconsistent performances. Now, they lost 'heavily' to Japan which might not be too good for the FIFA ranking that will be out on Thursday. Notwithstanding, i don't see them dropping out of the top five if at all there will be changes.
Ghana didn't go to Japan because of FIFA ranking. Ghana sent a reserve as part of its rebuilding process- to try new players. that is what friendlies are for, isn't it? I don't think the friendlies played this week will matter in FIFA's next ranking due Thursday. because of FIFA ranking you'll not try new players or rebuild your team?

modextus: Ghana lost 3 goals to 1 today against japan.
Ghana sent a reserve side to tokyo. BBC called it an experimental side. By the way, this thread is about Nigeria and Egypt, so face your front, huh?

Malawi protest to Fifa against Nigeria’ s Calabar venue and referee

By Nyasa Times Reporter
August 12, 2013

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has written to the world soccer governing body Fifa to ask for their decisive Group F World Cup qualifier against Nigeria to be moved from Calabar as well as change the referee to handle the game.

Malawi trail Nigeria by two points and must win to progress to the play-offs.

In a statement made available to Nyasa Times, the FAM’s letter to Fifa states: “There is security risk in Calabar where the match will be played, as reported by the Commonwealth Commission. The venue of the match is risky to our delegation and we would like Fifa to shift the match to Abuja or to a neutral country where our delegation will be safe.

“Calabar has been flagged as a high-risk security area and this alert cannot be taken lightly. Our Minister of Sports will be part of the travelling delegation and we do not want to take security risks by travelling to Calabar.”

FAM statetement signed by its CEO Suzgho Myirenda, also protested over the appointment of Hamada el Moussa Nampiandraza as referee for the match, who it believes gave a “below par” performance at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

“The track record of the appointed referee (Hamada El Moussa Nampiandraza) with Malawi and his perfomance at the 2013 Afcon was not good and we also question decision of early disclosure of the match official,” said FAM in the statement.

FAM suspect the early announcement of the game’s man in-charge can lead to match fixing and corruption.

“Fam would like to register this protest with your office so that Fifa can intervene urgently and advise on the matter accordingly,” the statement said.
