Travel / BREAKING: Nigerian Dies Aboard Indian Plane Today, Forcing It To Land In Pakista by bignews2020: 11:36am On Mar 13, 2023
A plane belonging to a private Indian airline was forced to detour and make an emergency landing in Pakistan after one of its passengers, a yet unnamed Nigerian died, on the flight.

The incident happened on board an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Doha early today Monday.

The plane turned to Karachi after the pilot reported that a Nigerian passenger “was not breathing and had no pulse”, the city’s airport said.

There are no direct flights between India and Pakistan.

The two countries share a fraught relationship – the neighbours have fought three wars since 1947, when India was partitioned on independence and Pakistan was created.

In July 2019 Pakistan fully reopened its airspace to civilian flights, five months after it was closed following a standoff with India.

The IndiGo flight with 163 passengers landed at the Jinnah Terminal International Airport in Karachi around midnight on Monday.

Civil Aviation Authority Pakistan said the 60-year-old man felt unwell mid-journey, after which the captain of the plane contacted the Karachi air traffic control and requested for a doctor and an ambulance.

But upon examination, the passenger was declared dead by the airport’s medical team.

The plane departed for its destination four hours later.

In a statement released on Monday, IndiGo said it was “deeply saddened” by the death of the passenger.

“Our prayers and wishes are with his family and loved ones,” the airline added.

A road crash involving the convoy of Oyo State’s Governor Seyi Makinde has resulted in the death of a driver, Ramon Mustapha, with three others sustaining various injuries.

Makinde immediately paid a condolence visit to the widow and family of the late Mustapha, who has was buried on Wednesday, December 7, according to Islamic rites.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) South West Zonal Secretary, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, has sent condolences to the Governor over the loss.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred as Makinde made a return trip to Ibadan from the Saki area of the state on Tuesday, December 6.

Saki had hosted him at a town hall meeting with members of his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to address them on his second-term bid for the 2023 general elections.

Mustapha was said to have died on the spot, after the impact of the incident threw him outside the vehicle, codenamed “Zebra 4,” which he was driving.

Head injuries he sustained reportedly resulted in his immediate death.

PDP South-West Zonal Secretary, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran

Owokoniran in a statement said: “South-West PDP condoles with Gov. Seyi Makinde and the family of the deceased Ramon Mustapha, who lost his life in the course of duty.

“Indeed, it must have been painful to have lost Ramon Mustafa at this moment in time but more painful is that Ramon’s life got cut short when his family and his boss needed him most.

“Almighty Allah knows best and loves him most. May Almighty Allah forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest.

“May the family be granted the fortitude to bear the loss and his memory be a blessing to his family.

Politics / OPC Remembers Founder Dr. Fasehun, Yet To Decide Among Atiku, Obi, Tinubu by bignews2020: 11:18pm On Dec 01, 2022
The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has said that its Late Founder, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, if he had been alive, would have kicked at the current political dispensation under which citizens suffered socio-economic hardship and insecurity.

OPC national executives, led by the President Otunba Wasiu Afolabi, spoke after a meeting in Lagos to mark the fourth anniversary of the death of their Late Founder and President, Fasehun, who transited on December 1, 2018.

In a press statement by OPC General Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Fasehun, the group also said it was yet to formally adopt any candidate for the 2023 elections, be it for the legislative, the governorship, the presidency.

Afolabi said on his predecessor’s demise: “We must commiserate with our mother, Deaconess Iyabo Fasehun, on this occasion of the fourth anniversary of the death of our Founder and President, Dr. Frederick Isiotan Fasehun. We pray that God will continue to keep Mama and the children. And may God continue to steer the leaders of OPC to continue in the laudable steps laid by our legendary leader in the advancement of democracy and the welfare and protection of Yoruba people and their neighbours.”

According to the OPC President, the current hardship faced by Nigerians was a remarkable departure from what Fasehun fought for when he founded OPC in 1994 as part of the struggle to enthrone democracy.

Afolabi submitted: “This democracy we see is certainly not the democracy fought for by Fasehun, MKO Abiola, Anthony Enahoro, Dan Suleiman, Arthur Nwankwo, Abraham Adesanya, Kudirat Abiola, Gani Fawehinmi and other heroes.

“It is unfortunate that unlike these heroes of democracy, driven by the vision of a Nigeria that will work for Nigerians, our current leaders in the Fourth Republic have continued to lead Nigerians deeper and deeper into despair and poverty. Nigeria wallows in debt and Nigerians wallow in poverty.

“Corruption reigns at all levels and it is carried out with great impunity, with politicians and public servants getting away with corrupt enrichment.

“Nigerians are suffering under the current situation of costly foodstuffs and essential commodities. People are embracing the JAPA SYNDROME and fleeing Nigeria through highly risky means and routes. Suffering Nigerians are being driven to commit suicide because of the current hardship. Something needs to be done in a hurry to bring hope to despondent Nigerians.

“A bag of rice has risen to N45,000, an amount that is 150 percent of the minimum wage, and more than seven times the N6,000 it was when Buhari took over in 2015 from a Goodluck Jonathan government tagged as clueless and corrupt.

“Cooking gas has risen to over N10,000 from less than N2,000. The prices of cooking kerosine, aviation fuel and diesel have shot through the roof, with government appearing to have no solutions.”

The group said that in 2023, Nigerians must choose political leaders at all levels capable of delivering the dividends of democracy and alleviate the current hardship faced by the people.

Politics / Senate, House Of Reps Urged To Fire New Acting National Assembly Clerk by bignews2020: 1:43pm On Nov 22, 2022
The Nigerians for Enduring Democracy (NED) group wants both arms of the National Assembly to reject, reverse and replace the appointment of Sani Magaji Tambuwal as the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly.

NED said Tambuwal’s appointment, “unilaterally undertaken by the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, in conspiracy with the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, Engr. Ahmed Kadi Amshi,” was fraught with corruption and irregularities and violated due process as laid down in the National Assembly Service Commission Act, 2014, as amended, with relation to the appointments of legislative clerks and secretaries.

In a statement released in Lagos on Tuesday today and signed by its Executive Secretary, Fidelis Osoba,, NED demanded the reversing of Tambuwal’s appointment, and his replacement by a senior official with legislative background and cognate experience.

Until his appointment on 18th November, Tambuwal served as Secretary of Finance and Accounts.

As NED noted, the Acting National Assembly Clerk was shunted six steps over his superiors to occupy his current position, a move the group said was acrimonious, invidious, unacceptable and barren of commonsense and decorum.

NED said: “How do you subsume everyone on the successor line-up within the nation’s Legislative Service, leapfrog a totally junior official in the pecking order, and catapult him above his highly diligent and experienced seniors? The National Assembly cannot afford to set bad precedents that will rob the Legislature of the moral right to mediate and exercise oversight when such abuses take place in other arms of the country’s administration.”

The group’s Executive Secretary noted that Tambuwal’s appointment was even more curious as the retiring Clerk of the National Assembly, Arc. Ojo Amos Olatunde, had recommended a successor along the line of seniority, experience and competence.

NED noted that: “Whoever must head the National Assembly Management must be an experienced legislative officer, who has risen through the ranks in the service. Moreover not only does the National Assembly Clerk serve as the peak of the career for legislative officers, there are enough competent officers in the system to prevent the appointment of a neophyte who must now be guided every step of the way.”

NED said the National Assembly’s investigation should revolve around the following:

• Why the hurry to appoint Tambuwal as Acting CLA while there remains a substantive one?

• Was the haste in Tambuwal’s appointment fuelled by insinuations in the media about a N700 million bribe to facilitate the process?

• When the Senate President, in his Guest House, met with the Speaker of the House of Reps, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday 17th November, why did Senator Lawan go behind to call the Chairman of the Commission surreptitiously to appoint Tambuwal (thus turning a weighty national issue into a family affair, as the Commission Chairman is reportedly Lawan’s relation and his former Chief of Staff when the Senator was Leader of the Senate)?

Noting that although Sokoto-born Tambuwal possessed Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, NED said he was principally a finance person, without a modicum of legislative knowledge or experience.

The group noted that already the deficiencies of the new appointee had begun to show as the retiring Clerk, Ojo, had been instructed not to disengage immediately until February, so as to guide Tambuwal through the processing of the 2023 Appropriation Bill.

NED lamented: “This demand that the outgoing NA Clerk should hang around to babysit Tambuwal through the processing of the 2023 budget is unprecedented, laughable and justifies the current call that the he should never have been appointed in the first place.

“If the Senate President and the commission’s Chairman knew the man was inexperienced and inefficient, why did you appoint him in the first place, when you have a competent alternative quite capable of hitting the ground running?

“Begging the retiring Clerk to hang around would have been unnecessary had the deserving official been appointed, who through years of cognate experience, knows all the processes and protocols of the National Assembly preparing the National Budget.”

NED demanded that the current appointment should not be allowed to and a new process be initiated in strict compliance with the National Assembly Service Commission Act, 2014, as amended, in relation to the appointments of legislative clerks and secretaries.

According to Osoba, the unjustifiable appointment of Tambuwal, reportedly influenced and bankrolled by a sitting Governor, lent credence to media reports that the process had been corrupted and oiled by financial inducements.

NED queried: “Is it true as the media reported that, to facilitate this appointment, a sitting opposition Governor in the North-West, doled out N50 million, to each Commissioner in the Commission?”

Politics / Pro-atiku Group Warns Nigerians About Tinubu’s Verbal Accidents by bignews2020: 4:38pm On Oct 20, 2022
A support group of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, the Atiku People United (APU), has urged Nigerians to take as a warning the series of verbal accidents by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying it forebode danger for the country if he became President.

APU cited as an example the thoughtless commendation Tinubu gave to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai for taking Kaduna State “from rotten to bad.”

Slamming the disdainful manner the APC flag-bearer also referred to the “poisoned Holy Communion” while facing the Arewa Joint Committee in Kaduna, APU Coordinating Leader, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, submitted that an earlier speech in which Tinubu told opposition persons to “shut up” reflected the despotic manner in which the former Governor controlled Lagos politics like an Emperor, without consideration for alternative arguments and without providing a level playing field.

According to APU, Tinubu’s rotten-to-bad remark must be seen in the same light as President Muhammadu Buhari, who lived up to his words of taking Nigeria from “top to bottom,” with seven years of APC misgovernment that has left the country reeling from socio-economic degeneration, frightening insecurity and colossal debts.

The APU statement said: “What Tinubu has said is that APC would turn Nigeria’s already rotten situation under his party into a worse one. It is now left for Nigerians to decide whether they want to have another four years of badness and suffering under APC. Simply put, under APC, there is no light at the end of this tunnel of despair and maladministration. Nigerians, be warned!

“Nigerians must decide if they want to hand over their affairs to a party whose flag-bearer gives accolades to a Governor who took a state ‘from rotten to bad.’ Nothing can be good about bad. For a party candidate to celebrate badness, therefore, is highly questionable.

“The hollow damage control attempted by Tinubu’s handlers that he suffered a Freudian Slip does not fool anybody, it simply worsens matters. Then just the following moment he went to badmouth the Holy Communion in a rather insensitive manner annoying to Christians.

“Should we submit the sensitive office of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to such a man? For crying out loud, this is a 200 million-strong population, the largest Black nation on earth! Is this the best that Nigeria can produce with all our competent, erudite and world-class achievers?

“Fortunately, Nigerians have a choice of voting for the truly nationalistic, progressive and excellent ticket of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the true unifiers of Nigeria, with track records of selfless service.”

Owokoniran, South-West Zonal Secretary PDP, said the fact that the APC Presidential Candidate celebrated El-Rufai was even more curious, considering the fact that the APC Governor’s tenure had been laden with crisis and scandals.

He said: “Even more surprising is what the APC Presidential Candidate says is worthy of celebrating in Governor El-Rufai’s seven years of administering Kaduna. This is a Governor who upset the delicate balance of Kaduna’s ethno-religious makeup and imposed a Muslim-Muslim ticket. That insensitive Kaduna model must have been the motivation for Tinubu’s disrespectful and insensitive adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket in a pluralistic country like Nigeria.

“El-Rufai is a Governor who described kidnapping and banditry as mere business and these evils can be seen flourishing in Kaduna and indeed all over Nigeria under APC.

“The APC government in Kaduna State is overseeing the worst levels of insecurity with killings going on every day, so much so that today, it has become difficult to travel between Kaduna and neighbouring Abuja.”

The PDP chieftain said Nigerians must choose right.

Owokoniran submitted: “To be forewarned is to be forearmed. With Tinubu, what you see is what you get. So don’t expect anything different.”

Politics / Honour Not-too-young-to-run Law, Choose Dr. Dauda For Tinubu -youth Groups by bignews2020: 5:04pm On Jun 17, 2022
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) today Friday demanded that the All Progressives Congress (APC) should choose renowned academic-businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda, as the Vice Presidential Candidate of the party.

NYCN’s request is sequel to the All Progressives Congress (APC) North Central Zone Youth Leaders similarly urging the party to honour the declarations of the “Not Too Young To Run Act,” which President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law in May 2018, by nominating the foundation APC member from the President’s CPC to balance the ticket of the Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

NYCN, the country’s umbrella body for youth, said that Dauda’s choice would give APC robust mileage with Nigerian youths, who already feel alienated by other political parties that chose middle-aged and elderly candidates as their flag-bearers.

The resolution followed a Thursday all-night meeting of the NYCN National Executive Council that ended around noon on Friday in Abuja.

“Our meeting was convened to caution the APC against making the mistake other political parties have so far made by neglecting the youths in their selection process for offices at the state and federal levels,” the group said in its communiqué.

Signatory to the communiqué, NYCN National President, Comrade Solomon Adodo, stressed that youth would have a sense of belonging in Nigerian politics and governance with a competent representative like Dauda emerging as the Vice Presidential Candidate of APC from the Kanuri stock in Borno State.

The communiqué said furthermore: "We as the umbrella body of Nigerian youth nationwide insist that Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda (El-Dabi), a towering intellectual and administrator having the much needed experience and exposure, be given this opportunity to represent our generation in order to facilitate the much-needed changes our country earnestly desires.

“We urge President Muhammadu Buhari to remember his promise to the youth. He must recall previous commitments he made about the youth stepping into governance in Nigeria. And it is in this regard that we request that the party should pick a very young, capable and ready Running Mate to complete the partnership between the generations of political players, in order to be assured of the total support of the youth.

“We commend Mr. President for demonstrating uncommon leadership and statesmanship, by maintaining neutrality and upholding the finest principles of democracy, throughout the free and fair primary election. In doing so, His Excellency once again disappointed naysayers and negative political pundits who had speculated that he would anoint and impose a successor.

“His Excellency has always assured the youth that the reward for their support to your government and patriotism to their country is that you will ensure that they handle governance alongside the older generation. We believe you even now. And this is the time to demonstrate your noble resolve. It is in this regard that we request that you use your position as President of the country and the leader of  the Governing Party to cause your party to pick a very young, capable and ready Running Mate to partner the party's candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is to complete and complement the partnership between generations of political players and be assured of the total support of the youth for the APC.”

Represented at the Abuja meeting of APC youth leaders from the North Central geopolitical zone during the week were executives from Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nassarawa, Niger Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

In their resolution at the Abuja parley, they similarly fingered Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda as best fit for Tinubu’s Running Mate.

A statement the APC North-Central Zone Youth Leaders jointly signed said they recognised “Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda as an active member of the youth constituency; and we have no doubt that he will fit in to compliment the strength of the APC Presidential flag-bearer Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

We therefore jointly urge our great party leaders, elders and stakeholders to also endorse Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda.”

Pointing out that Buhari had been well-balanced with the youthfulness and vigour of Professor Yemi Osinbajo, they demanded that the party should replicate the equation in the Tinubu ticket even as consultations continued across board.

The statement also highlighted that Dauda had multifarious experiences in academia, business and philanthropy, as well as being from the North-Eastern geopolitical zone that had also never presented an occupant for Nigeria’s two topmost slots of President and Vice President.

According to the APC youth leaders, President Muhammadu Buhari had in assenting to the “Not Too Young To Run Bill (now Act)” promised to reciprocate the backing the youth gave his regime.

“As we gather here in Abuja at this epochal moment in our party’s history, we must remind Mr. President and the APC of this promise. They should live up to that promise and make the slot for our esteemed Presidential Candidate’s Running Mate an exclusive preserve of the youth as represented by Dr. Ibrahim Bello Dauda.”

E-Voting: OPC Condemns Amendment To Electoral Act
By Bola Badmus - Lagos On Jul 19, 2021

Frederick Fasheun-led Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has condemned the recent amendment to the Electoral Act, describing it as anti- people and anti- democratic, even as he urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to sign it into law but instead return it to the National Assembly to make an electronic transfer of election results a compulsory component in the electoral process in the country.

President of the group, Otunba Wasiu Afolabi, also known as “Askari,” made the call on Monday in a statement made available to newsmen, as part of the body’s four-point demand, saying that the lawmakers’ refusal to endorse electronic transmission of results showed that they preferred to come into office not through the people’s mandate but through rigging and fraudulent elections.

According to OPC’s four-point statement, other demands made include addressed: “Asking Buhari to cooperate with Southern governors to end insecurity through the banning of open grazing and other related policies

“Warning Northern groups not to overheat the polity and to stop their confrontational posture to the South’s demand for power rotation and a Southern president in 2023;

“Demanding that security agents should call off the manhunt for Sunday Igboho and urgently release all those arrested in that despicable July 1 raid on his Ibadan home.”

The group posited that President Buhari owed it a duty not to sign the legislature’s Anti-people Electoral Bill into law “since INEC has said it has the capacity to transfer results electronically,” saying he would thus be writing his name in gold on the pages of Nigerian history if he should do such.

This was just as OPC recalled that former President Goodluck Jonathan modernised the electoral process by giving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) card readers to authenticate the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and banish fake voters’ cards forever.

According to it, Jonathan will never be forgotten for that laudable innovation that enabled Buhari himself to win that 2015 presidential election during which card readers were used for the first time, querying: “What value will Buhari be remembered to have brought to the democratic process?”

“It beats the imagination that legislators who transact banking business and instantly get bank alerts on their phones and laptops, whose children’s JAMB and WAEC results come through SMSs, whose children take lectures and do exams online, will not ascribe to election results being transmitted electronically. It is very strange,” OPC said.

Furthermore, OPC expressed misgivings on the harsh voice of Northern groups against the suggestion by 17 Southern governors that the slot of the president, come 2023 should revolve to the South.

The group, while expressing disgust at the outburst of the Northern group, queried from where the misguided Northern youths and groups derived their sense of entitlement, arrogance and combativeness, among others.

“From where do these misguided Northern youth and Northern groups derive their sense of entitlement, arrogance and combativeness? Why do they feel that they must have their way on which zone becomes president and the South cannot aspire to the position?” OPC queried.

“OPC hereby urges true leaders of the North to take charge and caution their belligerent people to take things easy. Their arrogant posturing about power shift will only heat up the Nigerian polity,” it warmed.

Reminding the government that it owed citizens the primary duty of providing security, the group challenged President Buhari to join hands with Southern governors to halt the spiralling insecurity suffered by Nigerian citizens in the South through kidnapping, raping and ransom payment by Fulani herdsmen.

It affirmed that Fulani killers were not spirits, saying that the security agents usually looked the other way when these killers were grouping up to strike.

According to OPC, the police do nothing even when citizens provide information to pre-empt and prevent bloody attacks, adding: “Police and DSS know where these wicked people have their camps and formations but they would never go there to dislodge them.”

“And when the likes of Sunday Igboho organise themselves to defend the people, they are hunted down by state authorities. This is a clear case of double standard,” the group declared.

The group further posited that the kidnappings and killings ravaging the South justified the call by Southern governors to ban Open Grazing of cattle as a necessary step towards restoring security in their zone, urging the Federal Government to support the policy rather than fight against it, even as promised to provide support to enforce the ban throughout the South-West.

Politics / Buhari Sacks Broadcast Agency Boss Who Ordered Radios And Tvs To Quit Twitter by bignews2020: 2:43pm On Jun 11, 2021
President Muhammadu Buhari has kicked out the Acting Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Professor Armstrong Idachaba, who on Monday June 7 directed all broadcast stations in the country to suspend the patronage of Twitter with immediate effect.

In his place, the President has appointed Mr. Balarabe Ilelah as the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

Idachaba has held the NBC DG post in an “Acting” role since February 2020 when his predecessor, Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, was placed on an indefinite suspension.

It remains unclear why the President failed to confirm Idachaba for the role and why the Professor was being relieved of the position at this moment.

However, when in Buhari’s pre-recorded Arise TV interview on Thursday the President was asked questions on the Twitter drama, His Excellency had declined to comment on the episode, saying he would prefer to keep that issue to himself.

Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who announced Ilelah’s appointment via a statement on Friday, indicated that the new NBC DG had a five-year tenure.

In a rather unpopular and controversial move that attracted threats of litigation from outfits like Daar Communications, Professor Armstrong Idachaba, as Acting Director General of NBC, on Monday directed all broadcast stations nationwide to suspend the patronage of Twitter with immediate effect.

Not a few had felt that Idachaba’s intervention and direction in issuing the instruction amounted to that of a meddlesome interloper, as many media houses had skirted the Twitter ban by accessing the platform through the VPN router instead of the local networks that had been instructed by the government to bar the service.

The Twitter platform had been a fertile ground for sourcing and exchanging news and information for the media.

But Idachaba and NBC declared that it would be unpatriotic for any Nigerian broadcaster to patronise the banned platform as an information source.

According to him, the directive fell in tandem with Section 2(1) of the NBC Act, mandating NBC to enforce the responsibility of ensuring strict adherence to national laws, rules and regulations.

Idachaba’s memo also quoted Section 3.11.2 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which he said stipulated that: “The broadcaster shall ensure that law enforcement is upheld at all times in a matter depicting that law and order are socially superior to or more desirable than Crime and Anarchy.

“Attention is also drawn to Section 5.6.3 of The Code which requires Broadcasters to be mindful of materials that may cause disaffection, incite to panic or rift in the society in the use of a User Generated Content (UGC).”

Born in 1962, Armstrong Aduku Idachaba was a Nigerian Professor of Mass Communication, and had served as Director of Broadcast Policy and Research in the commission before his February 2020 elevation as replacement for Modibbo Kawu who had been sacked over corruption allegations.

Celebrities / Stella Damasus’ Third Marriage Crashes by bignews2020: 10:24am On May 17, 2021
A few weeks ago, Nollywood actress, Stella Damasus put up a social media post in commemoration of her 43rd birthday. She had a photo shoot to celebrate her day amid goodwill messages from her friends, colleagues and fans.

Despite the euphoria surrounding her celebration, insiders alleged that the mother of two didn’t have a perfect day as her husband, Daniel Ademinokan totally ruined her day by shunning the event.

Findings reveal that the handsome producer intentionally snubbed the social media space a day before Stella’s birthday and didn’t make any post until a few days after the actress had marked her birthday. Well, with this development, there is no mincing words that there is indeed trouble in their marriage and the duo are not giving reconciliation a second thought.

It would be recalled that sometime in 2020 it was rumoured that the couple’s marriage had crashed and Daniel had moved out of their matrimonial home in Dallas to Houston, Texas with his son from his first marriage to actress, Doris Simeon. Despite frantic efforts made by friends to settle the rift between the two, it seems they are finally done with their union as they have both moved on.

Politics / Reno Omokri Abandons Wife In America, Welcomes New Baby With UK Based Lover by bignews2020: 10:12am On May 17, 2021
When a famous writer said that it is far better to be seen by others as only human with flaws, warts and all, than to be regarded as sanctimonious, when in reality, deceit is second nature to you – he must have had people like a former presidential aide, Reno Omokri in mind. Or how else does one explain his pious projections on life and living when his personal life is the direct opposite of what he preaches?

Reno, who currently spends most of his time in London rather than the US where he is supposed to be based, recently welcomed his fourth child named after his former boss, ex- President Goodluck Jonathan. He had sent a photograph of himself, his new baby and a lady he identified as Hana, to a daily newspaper last week for a congratulatory message on the dedication of the child.

Reno, who claims to be a pastor/preacher posted the said publication on his social media page, thanking the paper for honouring him and his ‘wife’ with the publication. In the post, he deliberately omitted the woman’s name but referred to her as his ‘wife’. Well, according to THEWILL checks, Reno wasn’t being truthful and has been outrightly deceitful. His rightful wife whom he married in Nigeria in both traditional and Church marriage ceremonies before their relocation to the United States, is Tope Omokri nee Onuwaje, a school teacher in the city of Antioch, a small town in northern California, where they also live.

THEWILL investigations revealed that the controversial former aide, two years ago abandoned Tope for reasons best known to him. They lived as man and wife in that city with their three children. Reno, who recently initiated #harassbuharioutoflondon, was only able to do so conveniently because he absconded to London where his new partner lives, contrary to his narration of flying out to London from California for the cause.

He has allegedly refused to contribute to the upkeep of his family, one of whom is a special needs child. This is beyond absurdity for a man who claims to have single-handedly built an orphanage in Edo State and is always quick to donate money to other people in need. Even the Holy Bible, to which he often makes reference, describes a man who is unable to cater for his family as worse than an infidel.

A control freak, Reno allegedly subjected his estranged wife to emotional abuse for the better part of the 14 years they lived together. The former presidential aide, who is never short of opinion on virtually every subject on earth and everyone, including a recent statement about not having sympathy for single mothers except they are victims of rape or domestic violence, needs to reveal the full identity of the woman in the publication to the people he projects his self-righteousness to. Does he now have two wives? We sure know he has not divorced Tope because our reliable sources say they are still legally married.

So we ask! Why did he abandon his family in the first place?

Politics / EL-RUFAI, DRUMMER IN ADARA’S DANCE OF DEATH by bignews2020: 3:53pm On Nov 03, 2020
EL-RUFAI, DRUMMER IN ADARA’S DANCE OF DEATH By FELIX OBOAGWINA

With the announcement of Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli on October 7 as new Emir of Zazzau within two weeks of the demise of the last one, could the world pause its outpouring of well-deserved felicitations and confront Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai with why he has refused to deal the same honour to a neighbouring Chiefdom whose ruler died over two years ago? What does His Excellency have against the Southern Kaduna people of Adara to have warranted the lingering two-year delay in naming a successor to their late monarch?

Zaria got a new ruler in two weeks. Ambassador Bamalli, the immediate past Nigerian Envoy to Thailand and El-Rufai’s former Commissioner, will be stepping into the shoes left by the late Emir of Zaria, Alhaji Shehu Idris, who died on 20th September 2020 after chalking up 45 years on the throne.

Meanwhile, Adara, a town in Southern Kaduna, lost her monarch, the Agom Adara III, His Royal Highness Maiwada Raphael Galadima, on October 26, 2018, and since then, his sheep have been left without a shepherd. Why? Not for want of a befitting successor has Adara been left without a titular head. The word around town says the Governor has deliberately buried any talk of permitting the enthronement of a successor. Last heard on the matter, His Excellency had plans to carve Adara Chiefdom into four. Last heard on the matter? Well, that is in a manner of speaking. For the plan to balkanise the Christian-dominated community by the Muslim Governor predated the death of its Christian monarch. Actually, Agom Adara III had vehemently opposed the proposed balkanisation, considering it as superfluous, prejudiced, hegemonic, insulting, inciting and unwarranted. In opposing the plan the man may have signed his own death warrant. Soon afterwards, he was abducted. Despite his people paying his kidnappers' N10 million ransom, this First-Class Chief still got murdered. The context of his killing, coming in the wake of his vociferous resistance to the Governor’s partitioning proposal, raises questions.

Is it true that the late ruler of Adara paid with his life for trying to steer Mallam Nasir away from plans to reconfigure Kajuru under the Adara Traditional Council to a Kajuru Emirate through an August 2018 gazette? Why, since its Agom’s death, has Adara’s 350,000-strong predominantly Christian population, with a good sprinkling of Muslims and Animists, been blocked from crowning a replacement? For this, the world must demand answers from Governor El-Rufai, a Fulani who flaunts his Islamic ancestry like a peacock feathers.

Politics / #endsars: Us-based Nigerian I.T. Specialists Slam FG, Military Over Lekki Attack by bignews2020: 10:31am On Oct 27, 2020
Nigerian Information Technology professionals based in the United States have joined the worldwide condemnation of last Tuesday’s shooting of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos.

On behalf of the Board of Governors and members, the President of the American-based Nigeria-US IT Network, Dr. Michael A. Oriade, described the attack by the military against unarmed peaceful protesters as condemnable, reprehensible, and criminal.

In a statement titled, “Condemnation of Shooting of Peaceful #EndSARS Protesters,” the group lamented that the protesters conducted themselves peacefully and did not deserve to be subjected to the violence resulting in so many deaths and injuries.

“The Nigeria-US IT Network Inc. vehemently condemns the reprehensible action of the Federal Government and military authorities of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who ordered the shooting of peacefully protesting youths at the Lekki toll-gate area of Lagos, Nigeria, which resulted in the death and injury of several of the protesters,” Oriade said, adding that, “We identify with the courageous youths and commiserate with the families and friends of the fallen heroes.”

According to Oriade, the protesters had been exercising their constitutionally-guaranteed rights with utmost decorum and the security apparatus should offer them protective cover rather shooting at them.

“As the world observed, the protesters were peaceful and well organized in their conduct and did not pose any threat that could warrant the soldiers’ unleashing of violence against them,” the IT group pointed out.

Recalling the words of the famous civil rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr., the group stressed that the Lekki tragedy could not but provoke the humanity in people everywhere.

The group’s President stated: “The late Martin Luther King said, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.’ ”

The group expressed commitment to supporting Nigerian youths with initiatives that would help build their capacity in the information technology space.

It expressed confidence in the youths’ ability to build a dream Nigeria should the right atmosphere be provided, adding: “This is all they have asked for in this protest.”

Politics / Origin Of Soro Soke by bignews2020: 6:09pm On Oct 19, 2020
What is the history of "Soro Soke" or "Soro Soke Werey?"

It has been a slogan and a catchphrase for the ongoing #EndSARS campaign. Soro Soke is the Yoruba for "Speak up!"

But who was the first to use Soro Soke Werey? Is it totally a child of this campaign or does it have its origin somewhere else?

Perfectly agree!

That is the problem with you demented lots, countless number of persons are out there risking their lives, you nitwits are on the media applauding and according unnecessary plausibility to one person.

Don't get it twisted, Sis, no one is trying to idolise the lady.

And give it to Aisha Yesufu, she is not a 24-hour wonder, not an emergency creation. While many of us have been ventilating from behind our keyboards, Aisha has been out there on the tarmac for long. She was in April 2014, for example, at the forefront of the Bring Back Our Girls Movement, for the recovery of the abducted over 200 Chibok girls.

But relax. She is not taking the shine of all those out there on the streets, daring the worst.

Aisha is merely a metaphor. She is not taking the credit of all of us millions who have pushed out nationwide to express our collective anger. She represents all of us.

I hope you understand. One Love. Shalom. Salam.
