What Nigeria did was give their quota to the ECOWAS West Africa Power Pool (WAPP). This was obligatory via ECOWAS, and Nigeria was not the only country contributing quotas to be distributed to various countries in West Africa to maintain economic balance.

If you also want to mention that Nigeria supplies electricity to neighboring countries such as Niger, Togo and Benin, it is because of the Dam Agreements so that these countries will not disrupt the river's downstream flow to Nigeria. In return, the electricity generated from Kainji Dam in Niger state, from the downstream of the rivers from these countries, will in turn also be given to them.
