The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has rejected Federal Government’s proposed cattle ranches in the six states of the Southwest and other Yoruba-speaking states.

It described the plan as an imperialist agenda to create Federal cattle territories across Nigeria.

At its monthly meeting yesterday at the home of its leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Afenifere cautioned the Federal Government against imposing any harsh policy on the nation.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting and read by its National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, the organisation said cattle-rearing is a private business.

It insisted that the government had no business getting involved, if there was no sinister.

The group insisted that “no plot of land in Yoruba land will be available for such cattle ranch and no governor should cede any land for such”.

Afenifere said: “We are devastated by the genocide that took place in Plateau State on Sunday in which over 200 deaths occurred, by eyewitnesses accounts, but the police admitted 100.

“These wanton killings and official irresponsibility portrays Nigeria as a barbaric entity. We, the Yoruba, are pained living in the same space with the bestial elements who kill innocent people in cruel manner.

“The images of children killed mercilessly with open skulls make anyone with human blood flowing in his or her veins to shrink. We are further distressed that the response of President Muhammadu Buhari to the murder of hundreds of our citizens did not attract a word of sympathy or regret.

“It is very infuriating that the President’s response and that of Miyetti Allah appeared to have been authored from the same laptop. The Chairman of the North Central zone of Miyetti Allah, Danladi Ciroma, said the attacks were a retaliation for the loss of 300 cows…”

The United States has reacted to the recent spate of killings in Plateau state. PoliticsNGR has been furnished with a statement from the US Consulate in Nigeria.

They condemned the attack and revealed that they join President Buhari to condole with the victims of the attack.

The letter read;

The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms the killing of civilians and destruction of property in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region over the weekend.

We are concerned by the recent increase in armed violence against civilians and call on all political and community leaders to lend their voices to peace and to work together to find lasting solutions to these rural conflicts.

We join President Buhari and others in sending our deepest condolences to the affected communities, and in the desire to see the perpetrators brought to justice and to prevent further violence.

I don't usually comment on politics issues but I am bound to. I wept when I saw the gory pictures of innocent men, women and children being given mass burial in Plateau state. And to imagine that a group claimed responsibility for this heinous crime. Dear southerners, what do you think would happen if a southern group claimed responsibility for the killing of over 200 people? Why haven't Miyetti Allah leaders been picked up? Ipob was crushed just because they said they will destroy Nigeria with truth (even though they just said it) and everybody applauded the government. Isn't it unjust that MACBAN leaders can come out openly and claim responsibility and nothing happens to them? No wonder Nigeria can never move forward.

No feeling of anger, no declaration of national mourning, despite massacre of over 200 human beings including men, women and children in the most horrendous manner. Nigeria is not a nation!!

Don't get me wrong, the loss against Argentina was so painful that it felt like the sting of a scorpion, but let's look at the bright side of it. Below are the reasons why our loss may be a blessing in disguise.
1. There won't be any distraction to our sorry state; if we had won against Argentina, there would have been a widespread euphoria to such an extent that we would suddenly forget the ongoing massacres going on the middle belt. All the headline news, blogs, Twitter, Facebook etc will be about the super eagles win, Messi's disgrace, the pig etc and any other thing would be pushed to the back burner.

2. APC and it's enfant terribles like Lai Mohammed, Adeshina, Garba would have hijacked it!
Nigeria is in a sorry state at the moment, we have never had it so bad economically, socially, security wise etc yet those in charge are less concerned and are even campaigning for second tenure. The aforementioned propagandists would have twisted the narrative to suit them as part of Buhari's achievement.

3. The loss will make our celebrities to stop looking for cheap publicity; every Nigerian who is active on the social media would attest to the fact our celebrities are really cashing in on this world cup to tell us they are still alive. Instead of engaging in productive ventures they are busy wearing jerseys and doing all manner of stunts all in the name of supporting super eagles but people understand the game. At least, they would now look for something to do than showing us fake Aba jerseys and dancing shaku or tweaking with their bums.
