Secondly, as a Nigerian and an Ijaw man, I am proud to belong to both entities. Unlike you Obasanjo who is a Yoruba man first before being a Nigerian, I Chief E.K. Clark am the accepted leader of the Ijaws, while unfortunately you, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, are not accepted as leader of the Yorubas despite being Head of State twice, because you lack the virtues and honour deserving of a Yoruba leader. Your devilish and inciting remarks about the Ijaws are unfounded. My dear former President, I know my letter will not come to you as a surprise because you know I would respond in equal measure, I have written several open letters to you in the past for your mismanagement of Nigeria affairs with Atiku Abubakar between 1999-2007, when you were the President and he your Vice President. I have also criticized and commented on your incessant interference with the government of Late President, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and I have commented on your unwarranted interference with his administration because of the confusion you generate. Reproduced hereunder is your myopic, rude and irresponsible remarks about Ijaws in your desperate letter to Mr. President: ‘For you to allow yourself to be “possessed” so to say, to the exclusion of most of the rest of Nigerians as an Ijaw man’ is a mistake that should have never been allowed to happen. Yes, you have to be born in one part of Nigeria to be a Nigerian if not naturalized but the Nigerian President must be above ethnic factionalism. And those who prop you up as of, and for ‘Ijaw nation1 are not your friends genuinely, not friends of Nigeria nor friend of ‘Ijaw nation1 they tout about. To allow or tacitly encourage people of ‘Ijaw nation’ to throw insults on other Nigerians from other parts of the country and threaten fire and brimstone to protect your interest as Ijaw man is myopic and your openly quieting them is even more unfortunate. You know that I have expressed my views and feelings to you on this, issue in the past but I have come to realize that many others feel the way I have earlier expressed to you.” I am indeed very sad and disturbed that you can make such a malicious, mischievous statement about an ethnic group which you did pejoratively knowing fully well that it has no single iota of truth nor foundation purposely to instigate and incite the rest of Nigerians against Mr. President and Ijaw come 2015. Your statement: “For you to allow yourself to be possessed so to say, to the exclusion of most of the rest of Nigeria as an Ijaw man is a mistake that should have never been allowed to happen” One may wish to ask why you think Jonathan is being possessed by Ijaws in the Presidency? The answer is definitely no. A few following instances may suffice; i) The NSA in-charge of security in the whole country is Fuiani from Sokoto state. iii) The SGF is Ibo from Ebonyi State iii) The Principal Secretary to the President is Fulani from Adamawa iv) The Commander, Brigade of guards is from Cross River v) The ADC to the President is from Kogi vi) His Speech writer is from Edo State, while the Senior Special Adviser on Media is Yoruba from Ogun State vii)Chief of Staff to the President – Edo State viii) Principal Secretary to President is Fulani ix} The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Custom Service is Fulani from Katsina x) The Chief of Air Staff is an Ibo from Delta State; xi) The Chief of Naval Staff is from Kwara xii) The Chief of Defence Staff is from North xiii) The Chief of Army Staff is Ibo from Abia The Inspector-General of Police is Hausa xiv) The Director-General of DSS is from Cross River xv) The Director-General of Immigration Service is from Plateau State xvi) The Director-General of NSCDC is Yoruba from Ogun xvii) The Executive Secretary of PTDF is Yoruba from Ekiti xviii) The Chairman of FERMA is Yoruba from Osun while the MD is Ibo from Delta -xix) The GMD NNPC is from Kaduna State xx) The Acting DG NTA is from Eco State xxi) Director-General of Inland Waterways – from the North xxii) The MD of NPA is Hausa Fulani xxiii) The CBN Governor is Hausa/Fulani from Kano xxiv) The FRSC Chairman is Ibo xxv) The Director-General of NAFDAC is from Benue. INEC Chairman is Hausa/Fulani from Kebbi NDDC Chairman is Ibibio from Akwa Ibom State Director-General National Orientation Agency is from Nasarawa State. The Economic Adviser to the President is Ibo. The Chief of Protocol to Mr. President is a Yoruba man. Even in the field of ambassadorial appointments, there is no Ijaw man or woman holding any senior ambassadorial appointment as underlined below: The Ambassador of Nigeria to United States is Yoruba. The Nigerian Permanent Representative to United Nations is Ibo. The Nigerian High Commissioner to United Kingdom is Hausa/Fulani. Nigeria Ambassador to Russia Akwa Ibom. Nigeria Ambassador to China is Hausa. Nigeria Ambassador to Argentina, Benue. Nigeria Ambassador to France – Yoruba. Nigeria Ambassador to Spain – Ibo. Out of the 64 ambassadorial posting to various Nigerian missions abroad, only three are Ijaw. No Ijaw person is Vice-Chancellor of any of the 36 Federal Universities. The President has 18 Advisers approved by the Senate, only Mr, Oronto Douglas is Ijaw. The number of Ijaws in the Federal Civil Service under Jonathan’s Administration has not increased and the number of Permanent Secretaries is only three Ijaws out of about seventy. There are only two Ijaw Ministers out of 42. Only one Ijaw man from Rivers State owns Oil bloc even though most of the oil comes from Ijaw land. No Ijaw man is an oil marketer and no Ijaw man lifts oil. You have agreed that the amnesty programme has not been implemented properly. The second phase which is infrastructure development is yet to take place. The 45-Man Technical Committee recommendations White Paper under the Chairmanship of Comrade Ledum Mittee is yet to be released. This is one of the few areas Ijaw people could have benefited. Where are the Ijaws who have taken possession of President Jonathan? I shall soon publish the full details of all those who held important federal positions and beneficiaries in line with ethnic quota in your government between 1999 – 2007. This will enable us determine who was possessed by his people and groups that were marginalized to show the extent President Jonathan is possessed by Ijaws. It may be necessary to state that: 1. Hausa language was the lingua franca at the Presidency while Alhaji Shehu Shagari was the President of Nigeria from 1979-1983. 2. Hausa language continued to be lingua franca in the Presidency when the military was in power between1983-1998. 3. Between 1999-2007, the Yoruba language became the lingua franca during your Presidency. 4. Between 2007-2010 the Hausa language returned to the Villa as lingua franca during late Umaru Musa Yar’dua administration and in fact, he was accused of bringing nearly all members of the State Executive to the Federal government. Is the Ijaw language the lingua franca at the Presidency now? The answer is NO. My Dear Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, you have become an unrepentant trouble maker, as Nigeria gave you more than you truly deserve. Hence you see yourself as lord of the manor. You have without recourse in the past embarrassed all past Heads of State and Presidents in Nigeria through open letters and unsavory comments. In such letters, you have always alleged maladministration, corruption and incompetence against them. At this juncture, I may wish to quote a piece from a concerned Nigerian, Senator Uche Chukwumereje: “He has since after his first stint in Aso Villa, consistently played the role of the Praetonia Guard pontificating to every successor and awarding marks like a headmaster to each pupil-President. Every regime from Shagari through Buhari to Babangida and Abacha, has benefited (or suffered) from the corrective tongue lashes of the guard.’’ |
Let us ponder a little and re-search our conscience. I'll appreciate if as Nigerians we'll look at the message and not the messanger. Please, read E.K. Clark’s letter to Obasanjo My Dear Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE This indeed is a season of open letters, the session of which you heralded with a contemptuous one to His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Your eldest daughter and a former Senator. Dr. lyabo Obasanjo, feeling uncomfortable with your antics quickly fired a response to your now infamous letter that has gone viral and continue to generate negative national discourse. President Goodluck Jonathan GCFR, an amiable gentle man to whom you routed your vicious open letter would not tolerate Presidential aides writing nor commenting on your letter, and so ordered a stay of action. He in his characteristic manner of respect and decorum said he would personally reply. I am quite certain that the President did not want to join issues with a benefactor and former President. He would have wanted the charged atmosphere your open letter orchestrated to ride itself out until normalcy and calm return to the polity, as witnessed in other incitive comments by well placed Individuals in the recent past. However, as you well intended the echoes of your vicious letter continue to reverberate negatively. The President had no option left but to reply you through the same medium of an open letter. With a deep sense of responsibility the President touched all the damaging allegations you heaped on his administration and today Nigerians are better informed. In the light of the forgoing, it has become incumbent upon me at this point in our national life to refute some of the issues highlighted in your letter especially about the Ijaws so that Nigerians must know that you are not the saint you claim to be, but a mischief maker, an ego maniac who always wants to play to the gallery. As rightfully put by your daughter lyabo “Nigeria does not belong to Obasanjo”. In addition, I want to buttress the assertion that all Nigerians are equal no matter where they come from, that is, no one is a second class citizen of this nation. You have no right to plunge Nigerians into crisis as your past actions and recent open letter to the President connotes. The generality of Nigerians think your letter is treasonable. Why I write Ordinarily, I never intended to join in the affray of accusations and counter accusations between a former President and a sitting President and a daughter in between. But, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in your usual characteristic hatred and use of sarcastic remarks about Ijaw, you have again berated and insulted us the Ijaws in your letter to Mr. President. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has never for once acted nor behaved as an Ijaw man since he took office as President, and we hold no grudge against him for that. |
FRESH CRISIS: New PDP Falling Apart It appears that there's crisis rocking the "New Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)" as its national treasurer Alhaji Tanko Ishiaku Gwamna, yesterday announced his resignation from the National Working Committee of the parallel faction of the ruling party and pledged his loyalty to the national chairman of the party, Bamanga Tukur, saying the current impasse will augur ill for the party. About seven out of the 22 senators have also withdrawn their membership of the group, ahead of Senates resumption of plenary today, after being on recess for seven weeks. Two weeks ago, 22 Senators reportedly declared for the "New PDP" after seven PDP governors announced its formation but there however, appears a break in the ranks as seven (four from the North-West, two from the North-Central and one from the North-East), out of the 22 senators claimed they were not part of the "New PDP" and that their names were surreptitiously sneaked onto the list. But the seven senators did not want their names printed. Some alleged members even claimed that though they may have sympathy for the "New PDP," they were away from the country when the names were compiled. So, they were not consulted before going public with the list. Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), said yesterday, that the Upper Legislative Chamber will resume as scheduled tomorrow, September 17. He dismissed reports of a division in the Senate caucus of the PDP, adding that the leadership is not jittery about any move from the "New PDP." His words: "Senate is not jittery at all. Tell me, what is there to be jittery about? Senate is alive to its historical responsibility of stabilising the polity. Each time, there's a shake-up, it's always been the responsibility of the Senate to stabilize it. Since there's a little hiccup within the PDP, it's still the responsibility of the Senate to stabilize it. We will do just that." Source: http://m.naij.com/news/47178.html |

Fred Tammy Phillips wrote in RIVERS IJAWS: Rivers State governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has come under fire for allegedly mortgaging the future of the state. One proof of this is Amaechi’s penchant for borrowing in direct contradiction of his promise on assumption of power in 2007 that he would never borrow to develop the state. Following the recent release, by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), of the debt status of the country’s 36states the publication showed that Rivers is a high risk state debt-wise. The disturbing revelation came at the time when the state House of Assembly approved another N120 billion loan package for the governor, thus making Amaechi’s administration look prodigious. While the federal government was making efforts to disentangle it from accumulated debts which constituted a cog in the wheel of the nation’s economic development, Gov. Amaechi continues to pile up debts for the state. One cannot come to terms with Amaechi’s logic of preferring external loans to the billions of naira accruing to the state from the federal allocation and internally generated revenue. Amaechi has collected loans of well over N500 billion. “This is tantamount to mortgaging the future of the state,” Rivers State, according to the DMO report, is indebted to domestic commercial banks to the tune of N18.497 billion and another high stock of N86.755 billion to contractors that have delivered services and have been certified. This does not include the fresh loan of N120 billion previously approved by the lawmakers. |

Now, who is right $ who is wrong? Gov. Amaechi claims to have done the right thing while the aforementioned group feels the governor is wrong $ exhibiting high-handedness. To back their argument, the group quoted section 271 of the Constitution of FRN, 1999(as amended) on APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF JUDGE AND JUDGES OF THE HIGH COURT OF A STATE. [1] The appointment of a person to the office of Chief Judge of a State shall be made by the Governor of the State on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council subject to confirmation of the appointment by the House of Assembly of the State. [2] The appointment of a person to the office of a Judge of a High Court of a State shall be made by the Governor of the State acting on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council. [3] A person shall not be qualified to hold office of a Judge of a High Court of a State unless he is qualified to practice as a legal practitioner in Nigeria and has been so qualified for a period of not less than ten years. [4] If the office of Chief Judge of a State is vacant or if the person holding the office is for any person unable to perform the functions of the office, then until a person has been appointed to and has assumed the functions of that office, or until the person holding the office has resumed those functions, the Governor of the State shall appoint the most senior Judge of the High Court to perform those functions. [5] Except on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council an appointment pursuant to subsection (4) of this section shall cease to have effect after expiration of three months from the date of such appointment and the Governor shall not re-appoint a person whose appointment has lapsed. |
Group kicks as Amaechi swears in acting CJ THE Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors' Forum, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Tuesday, swore in the new Acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Peter Agumagu. Justice Agumagu was sworn in after the retirement from service of the immediate past chief judge of the state, Justice Iche Ndu. Amaechi congratulated the new acting chief judge on his appointment and urged him to discharge his responsibilities according to the law. The governor explained that the new acting chief judge would hold the office, pending when the National Assembly would approve a candidate recommended for appointment as the state chief judge by the National Judicial Commission. Amaechi said, "We looked at your appointment as a judge of the High Court and compared it to the rest of the judges in the state and realised that you are the most senior judge of the High Court of Rivers State. We, therefore, took that decision to proceed with the appointment. I wish to congratulate you and say to you that you have an enormous assignment in these three months. "We are proceeding with that while waiting for the resumption of the National Assembly and hoping that if they do approve the recommendation of the NJC, we would then proceed with that and we hope that within the three months you are acting, you will discharge your responsibility effectively." Justice Agumagu was the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Rivers State, before his appointment as the acting chief judge of the state. But in a reaction, a socio-political group, known as the Grassroots Development Initiative, kicked against Agumagu's appointment, describing it as a rape of the 1999 Constitution. The GDI faulted the appointment of an acting chief judge from a Customary Court of Appeal in the state, adding that the Constitution only allows such appointment to be given to the most senior judge of the State High Court. What does this portend for our judiciary? Rivers Crisis: Govt Rejects Court Order on Commission of Inquiry Governor Rotimi Amaechi Set to appeal judgement The Rivers State government has said it would not accept the judgement of a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt which restrained the judicial commission of inquiry into the July 9 and 10 crises that rocked the state House of Assembly. The High Court, presided over by Justice Iyaye Lamikanra had last Thursday declared that the Justice Biobele Georgewill-led commission set up by the state government was illegal and unconstitutional, stopped it from further sitting and also restrained the government from receiving or acting on any report from it. In a statement issued yesterday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, the state government said the Governor, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, was empowered by law to commission an inquiry into any matter in the state and rejected the reasoning of the court. Semenitari said, “For the avoidance of doubt and for purposes of clarification, the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, CON, as governor of Rivers State has powers under the law to commission an inquiry into any matter or issue, however such matters arose as the enabling law does not state the categories or circumstances in which His Excellency can be prevented from constituting, such inquiries. “Consequently, the exercise of such power does not make him a judge any more than the appointment of a High Court Judge also makes him a judge in any matter concerning him before such judge that he appointed.” She said since Lamikanra did not recognise the principle, the government would appeal against the judgement. “To the extent that the judgement of Justice Iyaye Lamikanra did not recognise this principle, the Rivers State Government does not accept it as well reasoned and shall take steps to appeal against it,” she said. Demdem: The truth is the house didnt just wake up and suspend because their faces are ugly. a petition was written by a citizen to the house, the house sat on it, debated, saw reasons why these culprits are culpable and came to a conclusion of suspension. Are u aware that in this same Rivers, another LG chairman was also suspended pending investigation and when found not culpable was recalled back to his seat.In the 'Those guys are thieves' does the 'Those' include CRA? If your answer is 'NO' then you are not objective. Is CRA a saint? Also know that without the backing of CRA, Rivers State House of Assembly can't suspend any chairman in the state. You used 'backing' for GEJ and used 'support' for CRA. Na wa o. You just show yourself. You should also know that truth about the suspension of CRA in PDP is that the National PDP did not just wake up to suspend him, there were lots of petitions forwarded and assessments made before they came to the conclusion of his suspension. Abegi! everybody, including CRA is playing politics. Most, if not even all of the political actors are thieves. Make una allow them to fight their fight. Don't allow their propaganda affect your sense of judgement |
Pattey: Summary; Amaechi had no right to contest an election simply because Oga Jona doesn't want him as NGF chair? Even when his colleagues; those in NGF gangangan made it clear he's their preferred leader, & no one else?Your comment just showed that you are actually a **tard & you don't reside in Rivers State. Your level of reasoning is so unimaginably low that you fail to realise that there could be sense in what that person wrote, which of course accounted for the many LIKES. Also, your naivety of issues at hand, especially in Rivers State, beclouded your senses to make you keep talking about NGF/CRA's colleagues voting for him. What the post you ill-commented on showed is simply: What is good for the geese is good for the gander or Do unto others as you would have them do unto you(Golden Rule). Let your hate of GEJ not make you childishly approach issues again, pls |
Demdem:Mtscheeeeew! U just ask certain questions as though u don't know what's happening or abi u're not resident in Nigeria? Oya answer this question:- Is GEJ the PDP that suspended Amaechi? Mtscheeeeew. |
Alxmyr: Don't sweat the small stuff bro.Very true! I wonder why people still continue to talk about '16 greater than 19'. They forget that politics will always remain politics. Some of the people they feel are still on the other side may have moved! Yet they keep talking about the past. Na wa o |
Goddex: By the way, why is the Nigerian media portraying Obuh led PDP exco as a faction? The court ruled in Obuh's favour and he was duly sworn in. PDP national, INEC and the rest recognise him as Chairman. The Ameachi's own "PDP" chairman who does he preside over? Or when was the last time he represented Rivers PDP in any meeting? The mods have a role to play here. An issue that was ruled by a competent court of jurisdiction in our country should not be played out this way. It means that we do not value our court rulings. If mod must bring this on front page, then at the end of the topic/heading/title the author must be quoted(in this case, PM News) so that we will know that it is not Nairaland that is disregarding the Nigerian courts |
KINGwax: Phone rings, keneth picked up: helloKINGwax, KK's father, Chief Kobani, was among the Ogoni chiefs that were killed, which led to the prosecution of Ken Saro Wiwa & ors. KK was a member of the PDP, appointed Hon. Commissioner for Finance in Rivers State by then Gov. Peter Odili, a position he held for many years. He made/stole so much money then. So, I wonder how N1million per month offer would make him resign from a party that he has seen to fail. He only left PDP for ACN when he was denied being made Secretary to Rivers State Government during the reign of Gov. Celestine Omehia. It is good when people know the profile of some persons before making comments, please. |

Count me out of 2015 Presidency – Amaechi Embattled Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has said that contrary to speculations, he has no interest in the presidency in 2015. He said that it was a plan by his detractors to paint him black before his colleagues prior to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum election that made some people print his posters and pasted them in some parts of the country. Amaechi said those behind the posters thought that his colleagues would be angry before the NGF election and think that he wanted to use the office for selfish reasons. Posters bearing the names of Amaechi and the Governor of Jigawa State, Mr. Sule Lamido have been seen in some states, starting with Kaduna and then, in the capital, Abuja. The posters presented the two governors as having presidential ambitions in 2015 and that they would contest under the platform of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party. But Amaechi, who won the controversial NGF election with 19 votes against 16 that was recorded by his opponent, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State, said those responsible for the pisters would soon stop. He said, “Those responsible for the posters are doing it out of mischief. I did not send anyone to print my posters and up till now, I don’t know who is responsible for the action. "But one thing is clear: they were done to tarnish my image before other governors. "Their intention was that because of the posters, my fellow governors would not vote for me during the NGF election, thinking that I have an ambition which I want to use the chairmanship to achieve. “But because the governors know there is no such ambition, they did not bother as they still voted for me.” Asked whether having such an ambition was a wrong thing, he said there was nothing wrong with it, but asked why some people spent money for what he described as “a venture meant to destroy other people.” “But you may need to know that I don’t have such an ambition in the first place,” he added. Meanwhile, some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have said they are waiting for money allegedly being sourced by some people to impeach the governor. The members, who spoke on condition of anonymity with reporters in Abuja on Friday, said they had heard about the plan to bribe them to impeach Amaechi. They said the money, if brought, would be displayed on the floor of the assembly. “Let them bring the money. We are waiting for it. We will collect it and display it on the floor of the House,” one of them said. 2015 Presidency Amaechi Featured Source: www.theheraldng.com/count-me-out-of-2015-presidency-amaechi/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
Aviation agencies clear air over detention of Oshiomole’s aircraft Ikeja – Mr Yakubu Dati, the coordinating spokesman of aviation agencies, said on Saturday that the agencies had utmost respect for all governors in the country. Dati, who is also the spokesman of FAAN, said this at a joint news conference held at the corporate headquarters of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) in Ikeja. Th conference was held to further give clarifications on the cause of the delay of the helicopter that was supposed to fly Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State from Benin City to Awka on Friday. Dati urged Nigerians not to politicise the issue, stressing that NAMA was only performing its legitimate functions. “We hold Gov. Oshiomhole in high esteem and part of the Federal Ministry of Aviation’s respect for him informed his being made our special guest of honour during the inauguration of the remodeled Benin Airport terminal some weeks ago, “ Dati said. Dati, who said all the aviation agencies also hold all governors in high esteem, urged pilots to always comply with directives of the agencies. Mr Ifeanyin Nwankwo, NAMA director of Engineering Services, said that filing and submission of flight plans and manifest was a global standard practice in aviation sector. Nwankwo said the aim is to protect the lives of passengers on board. He recalled that recently, NAMA had challenges with some pilots which were amicably resolved. Mr Chuks Onyegiri, General Manager, Air Traffic Control Operations of NAMA, said that all airlines had been informed of the new development regarding filling of manifest and flight plans by pilots. “That (information) has been passed round to them all since April and all ought to have been complying with the directives, “ he said. SSS & other security agencies have been working tirelessly 2 make sure tht we all leave in an atmosphere of peace yet people like try in futility 2 bring them down. Kudos 2 our Security Agencies! Majority of Nigerians know tht u're working. Those tht talk against our security agencies do so either because they are criminals or they applied 2 be part of them& they weren't qualified enough. |

Amaechi sues Rivers Assembly over alleged impeachment plan •Insists on NGF’s chair GOVERNOR Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State has asked a Port Harcourt High Court to restrain 32 members of the State House of Assembly from impeaching him unconstitutionally. Meanwhile, Governor Amaechi Tuesday vowed that he would not step down as the elected chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) just as he assured the NGF’s staff that their jobs are secured. Amaechi who was last week suspended by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for purported anti-party activities, fears that there is a ploy to use five lawmakers who are loyal to a serving minister of Rivers State origin to impeach him. In a suit filed at a court presided over by Justice George Omereji, the governor who said his tenure terminates in 2015, prayed the court to restrain the lawmakers from using illegal or unconstitutional method to remove him from office. This is what I call 'slow $ steady' leadership style. Pls read: Jonathan clamps down on terrorist groups, proscribes Boko Haram, Ansaru President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the proscription of Boko Haram and authorized the gazetting of an order declaring the group’s activities illegal and acts of terrorism. In a statement by Dr Reuben Abati, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, said the order which has been gazetted as the Terrorism (Prevention) (Proscription Order) Notice 2013, was approved by President Jonathan. According to the statement, the order affects both Jamaatu Ahlis-Sunna Liddaawati Wal Jihad, popularly called Boko Haram and Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis Sudan, also referred to as Ansaru , with a 20 years term of imprisonment prescribed for persons who solicits or renders support for the groups. “The proscription order warns the general public that any person “participating in any form of activities involving or concerning the collective intentions of the said groups will be violating the provisions of the Terrorism Prevention Act”. ” Section 5 (1) of the act prescribes a term of imprisonment of not less than 20 years for any person who knowingly, in any manner, directly or indirectly, solicits or renders support for the commission of an act of terrorism or to a terrorist group.”................. I saw this and I should share for objective analysis: Hope For Nigeria wrote: **JUST IN** Gov Amaechi Visits Omehia, Pleads, “Please Withdraw Suit At Supreme Court. **“I know I have offended you. I am ready to compensate you. **"We can work together. Please accept to withdraw the case from the Court. **If you fail to withdraw and I am sacked by the Supreme Court both of us will be the losers. Somebody will benefit” Faced with the political battle of his life, embattled governor of River state, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has paid a surprise visit to his cousin and former governor, Sir Celestine Omehia in a bid to reconcile with him. Pointblanknews.com sources hint that Amaechi had several months ago made efforts to reconcile with Omehia but the latter refused to cooperate with him. He is also reported to have sent emissaries to plead on his behalf, all to no avail. The source said Amaechi finally met Omehia on Thursday, May 23, 2013, few hours to the day the Nigerian Governors’ Forum election took place. The visit which took place at Omehia’s Abuja residence provided Amaechi the opportunity he had long craved for to reconcile with his estranged cousin. Amaechi was said to have gone on the reconciliation visit with the suspended Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd and among other dependable allies. Both Omehia and Amaechi had maintained hard stance since the former was booted out of office by the October 25, 2007 controversial Supreme Court ruling in favour of the latter. While Amaechi rejoiced and celebrated for reclaiming his mandate, Omehia was left alone in the cold gnashing his teeth. It was then that it dawned on him that the hundreds of thousands of supporters, loyalists and admirers who flocked around him did so because of what they got and hoped to get – political fair weather friends. As though that was not enough, the Supreme Court ruling clause, which stated that he (Omehia) never existed in the eyes of the law was interpreted by his successor and implemented to the last letter that he was not and should not be addressed as a former governor. Sources at the Rivers state Government House told Pointblanknews.com that Amaechi hated his cousin to the extent his name (Omehia’s name) is not on the Govt. House protocol list as a very important personality (VIP) let alone a former governor. “It is like Amaechi is regretting most of his actions against Omehia. Recently, he has made moves to reconcile with him, but Omehia refused until he was placated by their some of their Ikwerre kinsmen and a reputable cleric in the state. Omehia’s enlargement photograph that once adorned the executive council chambers of the Govt. House was also removed. This is just a tip of the iceberg of what Celestine Omehia went and has been going through all these years,” the source said. No sooner had his cousin, Amaechi assumed office as the State Chief Executive than the state treasury was declared emptied by his predecessor, Omehia as well as the contracts duly awarded and paid for while his five month regime lasted was dubbed reckless spending of public funds by Amaechi. To Omehia, it was a nightmare that same Amaechi who was instrumental to his selection as his substitute sequel to the K-leg saga could go so far to unseat him and press further to ridicule him even in his predicament.Since then there has never been any love lost between the two brothers. The enmity did not stop there, all their supporters also partook in the fight. The Amaechi/Omehia feud also spread to all that related to the fighting giants. Even the Ubima community has not been the same ever since, with Omehia’s loyalists still feeling aggrieved and nursing animosity against the jubilant new dictators that see themselves as Amaechi’s hatchet men. Having nowhere to appeal what he described as gross injustice by the Supreme Court, Omehia may have resorted to prayers, hoping God would provide him consolation no man, no politician could give him. He was later to decamp the Peoples Democratic Party who rather than identify with him at this moment of need chose to follow Amaechi to make up for its losses. He was lucky that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was handy to accept and compensate him with the governorship flag of the party in 2011, four years after. Even though Sir Celestine Omehia did not win the election and came second, little did he know that the April 26, 2011 would provide him the opportunity to express his anger and disapproval of what he suffered in the hands of Governor Amaechi and the PDP. That was when one Cyprian Chukwu went to an Abuja High Court to secure a ruling that Amaechi should not stay in office a day longer than May 28, 2011 even against the INEC’s position that the governorship election in Rivers State would be in October 2011, when Amaechi would have completed his four year first term. Amaechi was sworn into office on October 27, 2007. Based on this contested court ruling, the INEC went ahead to conduct elections in Rivers State on April 26, 2011 in which Amaechi participated on the platform of the PDP. To Omehia, this amounted to tenure reduction which is as a serious offence as term elongation. Consequently, he (Omehia) went to court to challenge the alleged illegality which is still in court and seen by many as a potential threat to Amaechi. Despite all the delay tactics by the incumbent administration to scuttle the effort, Omehia has refused to give up, hoping he will get justice even if it means cancelling the April 26, 2011 election which both Amaechi and Omehia are praying for in the Appeal Court. Amaechi’s fear in this regard is understandable. Not just losing the case to Omehia but it’s most unlikely that he will be renominated as the PDP candidate in view of his present travails. His political structure in the state has been demolished with the sacking of his hatchet man, Chief G. U. Ake and his lieutenants, the 27 members of the State House of Assembly that pretend to be on his side are also suspended from the party. To the majority of the PDP governors across the country, PDP leaders and the Presidency, Amaechi is a persona-non-grata. The Nigerian Governors Forum is more or less destroyed with two factions claiming victory in the last election. Amaechi’s supporters are mainly of the opposition parties who do not have a say in PDP and therefore not in position to help him out. To add salt to injury, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), Monday, May 27, 2013, Amaechi’s birthday, wielded the big stick, suspending him from the party for anti-party activities. This is the second time Amaechi is being suspended from PDP. The first time was in 2007 and was reinstated when he became governor. As hopeless as the situation seems, Amaechi’s scanty supporters in the state still believe their principal will weather through the storm unscathed. But he who wears the shoes knows where it pinches. This explains why meeting and reconciling with his hurt cousin, Omehia, even if it means kneeling down for him is now a necessity. Who knows what else his detractors may be coming up with? More so, as dumping the PDP and joining another party may not help matters. The new electoral laws, pointblanknews.com learnt, does not allow that except one wishes to forfeit his position which he (Amaechi) may not contemplate. Doing so may be a direct passport to the nation’s Siberia – the EFCC. Though details of the reconciliation meeting between the duo is still scanty as at press time, it’s not likely that the reconciliation that could not be contracted in the House of God as once brokered by Archbishop Ignatius Kattey will easily scale through via close doors. Meanwhile, a powerful lawmaker (name withheld) who was also in the delegation to see Sir Celestine Omehia told Pointblanknews.com that Amaechi almost knelt down in tears to beg Omehia to forgive him. “I know I have offended you. I am ready to compensate you. We can work together. Please accept to withdraw the case from the Court. If you fail to withdraw and I am sacked by the Supreme Court both of us will be the losers. Somebody will benefit”, Amaechi lamented. According to same source, Amaechi was with Omehia on Thursday May 23, 2013 till about 2am on Friday, May 24, 2013 and repeated same day at 8am. Omehia was said to have bluntly refused to accept the offer and plea to withdraw the case from the Supreme Court but told Amaechi to give him time to think about source: https://m.facebook.com/photo.php? fbid=551314548260005&l=9553142a9e&refsrc=http %3A%2F%2Ft.co%2F2jQcwaE5hO&_rdr |
