TV/Movies / My Top Five Skinny Girl In Transit Characters by biyitolu(m): 3:30am On Nov 26, 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G2HlAgUoac

I would have argued had someone told me I would fall head over heels in love with a chick flick. However, that seems to be the case right now as NdaniTv’s Skinny Girl In Transit has really grown on me. Ideally, I would expect myself to already be bored by a series of this genre in its fourth season. But, on the contrary, I seem to be getting more and more invested in the show. I, personally, consider Skinny Girl In Transit the NdaniTv project that has come the closest to rivaling Gidi Up’s fame and acclaim.

In this post, I’ll be highlighting my top five characters from the Skinny Girl In Transit. Of course, this is a highly subjective list. And, as such, I’ll understand if you end up disagreeing with my picks. With that said, my favorite Skinny Girl In Transit characters, shall we?

Nairaland / General / They Told You Blogging Would Be Easy? by biyitolu(m): 4:19am On Aug 28, 2017
To be clear, this is not an attempt to discourage anyone from starting a blog of their own, far from it. In fact, I would encourage anyone one who wants to start one to do it. This is just to make sure they haven’t made that decision acting on wrong information. And as a result, not knowing the full extent of what they are getting into.

If the information made available to me was anywhere near the truth, blogging was supposed to be a stroll in the park. But I can tell you, they lied. Blogging is not as easy as they said it would be. Seeing how I have a couple failed blogs to my name, four to be exact, you can take my word for it. That is four failed attempts at blogging, whew. Three of those four failed blogs were hosted on free platforms – and blogger.com – so it didn’t hurt much. The fourth was hosted with a foreign hosting company – during the dollar hike – meaning it cost me money. The money I wasted on this fourth blog made me have a rethink about blogging. If I was ever going to do it again, I was going to have to do it right.

I have heard speakers at financial forums talk of blogging as a means of getting passive income. They always mention it and make it look so easy. These speakers paint blogging in an excessively beautiful light. They make it sound like you could start a blog today and with a little effort you’d be cashing in almost immediately. As a result, a lot of people have decided to start a blog on impulse.Don’t be deceived, that is very far from the truth. In fact, the next time speakers mention blogging as a source of passive income to you, challenge them. Tell them I said to do so. Ask them if they run a blog of their own. I can assure you, the answer would most likely be no. If indeed running a blog was that easy, everyone would own one.

Running a blog is like taking care of a baby. You can’t just ‘do it on the side’ like they say. A blog requires a whole lot of critical thinking and strategic planning. It is time-consuming and requires a high level of dedication. I’m sure you must have noticed some bloggers publish apology posts for their unannounced absence from their blog. Trust me; it has nothing to do with being lazy – maybe for some. Truth is, a lot goes into running a blog. It is not as easy as they told you it is.

If your decision to start a blog is based on such hearsays, I can assure you of a rude awakening. Blogging is not a stroll in the park, it is serious business. If you are not ready for the work, it is advisable that you stay as far away as possible. It is a go hard or go home affair.

You’d be amazed at the number of hours bloggers spend writing, editing drafts, designing. Sometimes, bloggers have to go an extra mile to see that they don’t let their audience down. The blog might require that they have sleepless nights, absent themselves from social gathering etc. Bloggers also have to invest significant time into learning how to enhance their blog and market it.

You would be amazed if you found out the intricacies of running a blog firsthand. The simplest looking post on a blog might actually be the most demanding to have been published and vice versa. Don’t be fooled, blogging is not easy. Therefore, if you plan on starting a blog, you have to be ready to give it your all.

Like I said earlier, this is not an attempt to discourage anyone from starting a blog of their own. Accordingly, I will be sharing some tips for would-be bloggers in my next post.

If you really want to start a blog, don’t hesitate to do it.

Romance / 5 Qualities I Find Attractive In The Opposite Sex by biyitolu(m): 4:13am On Aug 28, 2017
To be completely honest, my single years have so far been, and they continue to be a bittersweet experience. There have been times when I wanted nothing more than for it to last as long as possible. Times when I can’t seem to have enough of its numerous perks. And, on the flipside, there have also been times when my wish was that it comes to an immediate end. Times, when I wish putting an end to the singleness could be as easy as flipping a switch off.

But then, we all know leaving the single life behind is not that easy. There is a lot of ‘deciding’ that is required to precede that change in relationship status. All these boxes that need to be checked before moving on from the single life.

Attraction to the potential partner is one of those major considerations. For a relationship to commence, both parties are expected to be attracted to each other in at least one way. There are no hard-and-fast rules as regards attraction. To each, the attributes he/she considers attractive. With all that said, I personally, in the opposite sex, am attracted to;

Someone Who Would Laugh At My Terrible Jokes
…and sell it. Make it look darn believable and as convincing as it possibly can be while at it. Why? Because I’m extremely terrible in the humor department. But that has not for once stopped me, and I don’t think it ever will stop me from trying to bring some humor to the table. Finding someone of the opposite sex who consistently appreciates my terrible humor is something I find attractive. You have to admit it takes effort to come up with even these terrible jokes. A little appreciation of work put in goes a mighty long way with me.

Someone Who Is Fun Loving, Adventurous, Vivacious
I am a naturally boring person. To gainsay this would be, for me, the height of self-deception. My ideal definition of fun is watching a movie on my laptop or spending time catching up on social media. Going outdoor to seek fun is not really my thing. The only time I’m actually outside having fun is when I’m coerced into doing it. Having someone of the opposite sex complement me in that department is something I hardly consider attractive. I’d much prefer someone that can occasionally pull me out of my cocoon. Someone who can convince me to make compromises.

10 Things I Have Learnt From Twitter by Jane Kareem

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8ez972m2k8

Don’t Be Quick To Jump Into Conclusions.
This is one of the most important things I’ve learnt here, and it has helped me many times.

Think Well Before You Talk (Or Tweet).
Twitter doesn’t have an edit button yet. Our words can’t be ‘edited’ either. Watch what you say.

You Cannot Please Everyone.
It is simply impossible. No matter how hard you try, you can’t.

Everyone Wants To Be Heard.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. Just watch who you listen to.

Nairaland / General / 15 Financially Healthy Habits You Should Imbibe by biyitolu(m): 3:16am On Aug 28, 2017
Our finances are an integral part of our everyday lives and rightly deserve to be treated importantly. Finances permeate every aspect of our lives. They go a long way in determining our general well-being and state of mind. Hence, we can’t afford to leave to chance anything that has to do with our finances.

We can’t afford to be insouciant with our financial habits. We need to cultivate financially healthy habits if we really do want to make our finances work. While I don’t have it all figured out, yet, it is something I’m actively working towards. Financial freedom is the goal and I owe it to myself not to stop until I eventually make it work. Below are some financially healthy habits that have helped me so far and some more that I plan to put to practice.

Learn To Save Money.
To save, you need to carefully scrutinize your habits. What are those ‘expensive’ habits draining money from you? Where can you cut back on your spending? However, of great importance is that you know why you are saving. If not, you’ll probably end up squandering your savings. Are you saving to invest? Or, to acquire assets? Are you saving for your retirement? You should have a reason for saving.

Avoid Impulse Spending And Spending To Impress.
Spending on impulse or to impress is a wasteful way to spend money. You should avoid it at all cost. Remember, every kobo that you lose to impulse spending is one extra kobo you will never get to save.

Invest.
Investing your money is another of the many advisable financially healthy habits you can imbibe. And if you can exercise the patience it requires, settle particularly for long term investments. However, before you go ahead with any investment, make sure to do your due diligence and be true to yourself. Not every investment opening that pops up is worth putting your capital into.

Track Your Expenses.
Having a budget is a financially healthy habit you should put to use. Draft a budget, weekly or monthly, and adhere as much as you can to it. The absence of a budget is the reason behind most of our wasteful spending.

Adopt A Frugal Lifestyle.
Simplify your life. Decide to cut down on unnecessary expenses. Sacrifice immediate gratification for the sake of your financial goal(s). A frugal life equals more capital that can be put to good use.

Create multiple streams of income.
Because, really, what’s better than one source of income? Two. And what’s better than two? Three. And so on. Multiple streams of income are advisable just in case one source of income dries up, you aren’t left stranded. This is where you can begin to engage your passion and put your talents to good use.

Nairaland / General / 9 Simple Human Activities That Terrify Me by biyitolu(m): 3:06am On Aug 28, 2017
It would be understandable should this post comes off as ridiculous to anyone. And, the reason for that is not far-fetched. Most, if not all, of the activities listed below are activities most people carry out without giving it serious thought. I see people carry out these activities effortlessly each and every day.

And, honestly, you’d be wrong to think I’m trying to be dramatic here. As ridiculously easy as the activities listed in this post sound, they scare the living daylight out of me.

Enough said about me, now to said activities.

Talking About Money.
And that includes negotiating for my services, asking for money owed me and requesting financial assistance. Money related discussions just make me unnecessarily tensed. Sincerely, I’ll jump off a cliff faster than I’ll start a conversation about money. And, when, if I eventually talk about money, it is done with so much awkwardness.

Walking Into A Room Full Of Strangers.
And this includes strangers and fairly familiar people alike. Those walks, no matter how short, seem like the longest walks of my life. It gets worse when the entrance is conspicuous and everyone in the room has a great vantage point. In such moments, I wish temporary blindness on everyone in the room for the period it takes me to settle down. Call me selfish, cruel, or extreme. At the end of the day, I’m just a terrified human seeking to cope with his fears.

Meeting Relatives I Have Not Seen In A While.
Most especially when such meetings are at family functions. This is one of the many reasons my ‘pre family function’ mood is usually bereft of excitement. I hardly look forward to family functions. I feel the exact same way about relatives I haven’t seen in a while as I feel about complete strangers. Call me crazy, but, if I have lost touch with you as a relative, you are probably not my relative anymore.

Being In Formal Gatherings.
The seriousness – read uptightness – that is characteristic of such gatherings doesn’t sit well with me. I’m cut room a different cloth. I love the freedom outside such gatherings. Formal gatherings are just too… well, too formal for me. I don’t thrive socially and most especially creatively in such environments. People who know me well know. The thought of going to a formal gathering, for me, is depressing.
