Politics / Re: Where Were You In 1999? by Bkelly2: 10:38pm On May 29 |
This year Nairaland was not conceived yet. Seun was just chilling. It was yahoo.com that was very popular then. Gmail was a child's play compared to Yahoo. Google was just about a year old. There was no gsm then but Nitel unit card for making calls on Nitel telephone hubs..that usually have long queues. This year, was the beginning of the dotcom era. And the buzz about millennium was very loud. Anyways, that year was a beautiful year. I was a corper shun then...lol 1 Like |

Ola9ja23: How do you know that the person you had to quote is an Igbo person? Your tribalism is of the roof. Anyone who opposes the news is an igbo person. The way some people think eeh...left left shioor! What the person is saying , is it not the truth? From 200/$ to 1500/$ even if the naira gained. Is it back to that 200/$ it was when the whole of ojota was filled up with angry protesters? All those who protested where are they now? Can't they protest now? No they cannot. So that person is just been factual and objective with his summation. Anyways stop been tribalistic 3 Likes 1 Share |

otherway: Exactly what is happening now. FG have been owing the BDC dollars they have long paid for. Now the BDCs are asking for their refund. No dollar to pay to the BDCs. This is also affecting the dollar rise. It's quite unfortunate. |
Business / Re: Data Shows CBN Not Defending Naira With FX Reserves - Businessday by Bkelly2: 8:26am On Apr 30 |
Heavensent01: How do they inflate prices? As a businessman, you sell as you buy. So you mean the Igbos should sell at lower price than the cost of their goods? The Nigerian economy has nothing to do with the Igbos... They are simply doing their business. The macro and micro economic policies of the govt is what affects the economy and also affects how the so called Igbos manages their businesses. So you cannot single them out to be the problem of the economy. |

[quote author=Donaldoni post=129601824]This is good news for piiiigggs But Nigeria will overcome!!! Local production of PMS will end this nonsense once and for all. [/quote} If the Nigerian govt will borrow their brain sense to do so.. Everything is tied around fuel, production and exportation. Once these are tackled properly, then Naira can breathe. Get the four refineries working. Not just depending on Dangote refinery.. Or better still allow for modular refineries..by giving out licence to operate modular refinery. Tackle insecurity, so farmers can go to their farms....Then you will see the country doing fine. Nobody hates Nigeria, I want a better Nigeria. However, you cannot be rubbing Nigeria with cosmetics and expect it to last. The cosmetics will wash off someday....This is what has been happening with CBN intervention in forex sector. Anyway, they are doing their duty- Monetary policies. It does not work alone if the fiscal policy is lagging. I pray Nigeria gets better. Those who always refer to PO always in issues that has nothing to do with him....should be objective for once. Na PO be the president? 1 Like 1 Share |

Heavensent01: Stop been tribalistic. What has Igbo got to do with the economics of the nation. The thread is talking about how the nation would grow if the FG through CBN are not been cosmetic about their intentions to bring down the dollar price. You are here fanning the ambers of Tribalism. Be objective and opine constructively and leave ethnicity alone. |

meditator: What has this got to do with Obi becoming a president? Is there any correlation between this and the naira appreciating howbeit temporary. Abi you no Sabi say naira don depreciate for black market? Let's try and realistic. If govt does not fix what generates more dollar for herself, the high demand for dollar will continue to be greater than supply. This is what triggers the depreciation..not peter obi |

Does this mean that if you have dollars in your dorm account assuming you work remotely with a foreign company and you are paid in dollars to your dorm account, you won't get the dollars from the banks over the counter but your dollar will be exchanged automatically by the bank to your naira account? If this is so at what rate? The floating naira rate? For me, I still prefer I get my dollar over the counter and go to the open market and trade it off o..... |

ufotty2001: And who told you that Dangote is the only hope to reform Nigeria. It seems as though you do not understand the Nigerian dynamics when it comes to her reformation. Nigeria has over 200m people in it.. The demand for fuel is very high..Not just one refinery can satisfy that demand. Allow modular refineries to thrive...Get the power sector working well which we all know that is a very tall dream for Nigeria. Move away from over dependence on crude oil for foreign exchange. In fact, diversify the economy allow private sector to handle some areas in the economy ... Let the govt be a general overseer if the economy while the private sector manages it. This will breed effectiveness, efficiencies and healthy competition. Then you will see drastic changes in the economy. But the question is, will our politicians allow this? Politics is the only very lucrative business in Nigeria. That is why you can see them ready to kill, steal and destroy just to be known as a politician. It is a survival of the fittest if you really want to survive in Nigeria. |

Politics / Re: Dollar Hits 1,105 At Official Market by Bkelly2: 3:23pm On Nov 17, 2023 |
Nigeria is a cosmetic nation. Different leaders comes on board and paints the face of Nigeria with different kinds of cosmetics. The naira fall is part of the rain that is falling on Nigeria and cleaning off the cosmetics thereby showing the real Nigeria. You cannot keep borrowing money to sustain the Dollar. You must have a barrage of avenues where Dollars will be rolling in large quantities into the Nigerian economy. When supply is more than demand...The high demand of dollar will drop. But the opposite is the case. The refineries are useless if not sold out to professionals to handle. Or allow modular refineries to operate. This will increase the inflow of Dollars...But out of greed and tribalism, the government won't allow this to happen. See where we are today. My advice, go find a way to earn in dollars. Help yourself, do not depend on this govt. If you earn in dollars, even if inflation is very high, you no go too feel am.. it is well with us all |

Foreign Affairs / Re: Mandela Family Supports South Africa's Withdrawing Diplomats From Israel by Bkelly2: 4:10pm On Nov 07, 2023 |
It is unfortunate that majority of the people are seeing this whole Israeli war from one perspective. This a war between evil and good. The war is not on the people of Gaza but Hamas. What apartheid? If the people of Gaza behaves very well, you think there will be partitioning between Israel and Palestine? And it seems most people have not seen the gruesome and barbaric nature of what happened on Oct 7 in Israel. In Gaza, Israel supplies them with electricity, Israel gives them opportunity to come work in their farms and homes, Israel gives their children proper medical care. There are some foundations in Israel who practically are responsible in taking care of the most vulnerable in Gaza. So where is the apartheid. The problem is the Hamas and their extreme fundamental values. Israel never started this war. Hamas did and I support what Israel is doing to bring back those hostages and clean out or reduce to it's minimum Hamas. Israel has been telling the people of Gaza to leave the war zone and move to the south but Hamas won't let them. Hamas uses her citizens as human shield so to whip up global sentiment. And they in turn hide to do the worst of the worst barbaric killings. Hamas brought this upon her people. In war, there are usually collateral damages which is very unfortunate. Now for South Africa calling out their diplomat if this is true does not in anyway affect Israel so long US is behind Israel. Make una go watch wetin happen for October 7...una go understand why Israel dey vex. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: Israel Strikes Aleppo & Damascus Airports In Syria by Bkelly2: 3:26pm On Oct 12, 2023 |
Botragelad: The question is, why will Hamas attack Israel unprovoked. People from Gaza do come to Israel to work without any skirmish all this while. So why go into Israel and kill civilians in their homes and youths having a music festival? And now that Israel is fighting back, they are publishing names of those killed by Israeli airstrikes. Does it make any sense? You first go draw blood. Dem retaliate draw your own blood...you begin dey cry...which mumu cry be that. |
