Social media activist, Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, has rejected the advice of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to write a petition against All Progressives Congress leader, Bola Tinubu.

Segalink, who is the leader of the #EndSARS movement, said the EFCC did not need him to write a petition against Tinubu before going after the APC leader.

The activist said the EFCC had been going after internet fraudsters and raiding night clubs without a petition.

He tweeted, “The EFCC in their primitive chest-thumping about Section 7(1) of their Establishment Act of 2004, forgot that they have the same power over the likes of Tinubu as they do over alleged Yahoo boys to act based on probable case. Why expect a petition from us?”

Segalink told The PUNCH in an interview on Friday that the EFCC had failed to take action on several petitions in the past.

He noted that the petition against Alpha Beta, a tax collection firm believed to be linked to Tinubu, had been abandoned by the commission.

Segalink said, “I wrote a petition once even with all the details, the EFCC could not get on Abdulmumin Jubrin, who admitted to budget padding. Alpha Beta Managing Director wrote to the EFCC on the alleged fraudulent activities of his firm. Nothing has been done till date.

“Why will I waste my time on another petition when the ones before them have not been addressed?”

The activist said the matter was beyond politics but more about equity, justice and fairness.There shouldn’t be different rules for different people in a democratic republic. Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians,” he said.

The EFCC and Segalink had been engaged in a war of words on Thursday after the EFCC boasted on Twitter that it had the power to investigate anybody living above his means.

Segalink subsequently dared the commission to probe Tinubu who had admitted on television that bullion vans laden with cash on the eve of elections belong to him.

Ok, let’s do a thread on my time at the Nigeria-Niger border at Babban Mutum village in Katsina yesterday.

Anyway. Quick disclosure: this is one border, and I won’t extrapolate further than what I saw. There’s another border in Jibia, for example, but it was far from where I was. I had work there, too, but tired

One of the first things you notice in Babban Mutum: trucks everywhere. Everywhere. Loaded to the hilt with pretty much every household item you can think of.

Household items from those little plastic kettles people use to pray to buckets and plastics, to food to... everything. Just sitting there. Parked and abandoned by their drivers. My contact in the village told me these things have been stuck “there for a long while.”

We drove up to the border gate —if you can call it that. There’s two points where you can see a rope loosely tied to two blocks. One is on the Niger side, one on the Nigeria side. (I’ll post a photo when my internet lets me).

It is manned by Nigerian Customs officials though. They let me take a photo of their office. I teased them about how bored they must be because there’s absolutely nothing going on in the area now. they laughed and just said, “Everywhere is just dry.”

The closure of the border has been pretty hard on the local economy. I asked a fruit seller how business is, and he just shook his head and said, “what can we do?”

But here’s the thing: tough as it all is on their local economy, nobody I talked to is necessarily opposed to the blockade. “Before, when you pass, you just see big trailers passing with Rice. It is making people not eat our local rice.” Buhari’s messaging has been effective.

Another person said to me: “you see these trailers? Everything these people have is because of Nigeria. We are a great country Wallahi. We just don’t see it. See all these their household items. Without us they’re suffering. Now their president will do what Buhari wants.”

People I spoke to understand the blockade as leverage over Niger, smart politics, even if with what they hope is short term pain for their people.

worth noting, though, is that, for many, Niger is simply their backyard. Some people’s farms pretty much straddle both countries. My hunch is it’s easy to cross in and out of Niger with smaller quantities products. If they stop you, you just say “I’m just coming from the farm”

Lastly, one of the drivers from the trucks (I’ll share a photo in a bit) is actually from the area. He tells me he’s hopeful of a deal soon. “This na my chop. So I no go want make the border just to dey like this for long.”

UNIVERSITY OF GHANA SUSPENDS PROF. GYAMPO AND DR. BUTAKOR.

The University of Ghana has suspended two of its lecturers who were caught on camera making sexual advances at some BBC journalists who posed as students.
The lecturers, Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr. Paul Kwame Butakor were relieved of their position following the BBC's "Sex for Grades" documentary.

The University says it has commenced investigations into the allegations. Meanwhile one of the interdicted lectures Prof Ransford Gyampo says he respects the decision of the University and is ready to submit himself for any investigation that will so be required by the University.

RE: BBC DOCUMENTARY ‘SEX FOR GRADES’ UNDERCOVER IN WEST AFRICAN UNIVERSITIES

The University of Ghana’s attention has been drawn to a BBC documentary entitled ‘Sex for Grades’ Undercover in West African Universities fully aired in the evening of October 7, 2019. We would like to state unequivocally that the University places great importance on issues of sexual harassment and misconduct, and condemn any of such acts.



Given that commitment, the Business and Executive Committee of the University has taken a decision to interdict Prof. Ransford Gyampo and Dr. Paul Kwame Butakor, the two lecturers featured in the documentary to allow for further investigations into the matter. In line with University regulations, the two will be invited by the Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee in the next few days to assist with further investigations into the BBC documentary.

While the University of Ghana believes sexual harassment is fundamentally about exploiting power imbalance and voicelessness, we also understand the harmful impact it has on individuals, families and institutions. It is for this reason that the University has taken steps to encourage students and employees to report any form of sexual harassment and misconduct, and has also instituted measures to punish anyone found guilty of the offence. In all instances where the University has been provided with information and/or evidence of sexual harassment or misconduct, our Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee has investigated the matter, interviewed the parties involved, and after making a determination, we have applied the appropriate sanctions as outlined in the policy, including dismissals. The University will prosecute the current matter under investigation, in addition to all outstanding cases before the Committee.



We would like to state emphatically that the University of Ghana does not and will not shield any employee or student found to have engaged in sexual harassment or misconduct. No member of the University is considered above the law.

The University would like to assure all members of the university community, including students, employees, our stakeholders and the public that it will continue to actively fight against sexual harassment/misconduct, and other acts of indiscipline. Further, to assure members of the university community and the public that the University of Ghana will use the existing structures to handle all matters of sexual harassment and misconduct, while protecting the rights of the victims.

Meanwhile, members of the University community are reminded of the provisions of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Policy, and also encouraged to report any acts of sexual harassment and misconduct accordingly.

A man was caught in the early hours of today inside the room of a student of the Ekiti State University, while trying to rape her.

The suspect who identified himself as Abraham, had gained access to the room around 1:30am but the lady narrowly escaped and called for help.

Abraham was subsequently nabbed, beaten before being handed over to the school’s security operatives.
