Politics / EFCC: Dasuki Diverted Cash To Buy Houses In Dubai, London by Blacksodje(m): 7:34am On Dec 16, 2015 |
The Federal Government yesterday clarified its position in the ongoing trial of former National Security Adviser (NSA) Mohammed Sambo Dasuki before the High court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. It said the ex-NSA was being tried because he was involved in various activities that bordered on economic sabotage, compromise of the nation’s security and endangering the lives of Nigerian soldiers involved in the anti-terrorism fight with members of the Boko Haram sect. The government said investigation by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operatives revealed that Dasuki allegedly diverted huge funds meant for the nation’s security, with which he allegedly procured properties in foreign cities, such as Dubai and London. It warned against granting bail to Dasuki on the grounds that he could be attacked by relatives of ill-equipped soldiers, who died in the anti- terror war as a result of Dasuki’s alleged diversion of funds meant for the purchase of arms and ammunition for the military. It said investigation had been intensified to trace his assets in other foreign countries and ascertain where the yet to be located stolen funds are being hidden outside the country. The government’s position is contained in a counter affidavit filed by the EFCC against Dasuki’s bail application. The affidavit was deposed to by an operative with the EFCC, Hassan Saidu, who said he was part of the team investigating Dasuki. “The offences being alleged against the defendant/applicant border on economic sabotage that strikes at the very foundation of Nigeria’s wellbeing and existence. “The security of the Nigerian nation was compromised and the lives of innocent Nigerian soldiers in the battlefront against terrorists were endangered on account of diversion of funds meant for the security of the nation by the applicant herein. “It is in the interest of justice to put the applicant in protective custody so as to protect him from a possible attack by the relatives of the innocent soldiers who lost their lives due to lack of adequate equipment and facilities caused by the diversion of the funds meant for that purpose. “Apart from the cases that are pending against the applicant, he is also being investigated in respect of other criminal allegations. The applicant acquired a large volume of assets with the proceeds of crimes and my team is currently tracing the assets and, if released on bail, the applicant will interfere with the asset tracing activities. “The applicant transferred huge sums of monies to various companies, whose identifies we are still trying to trace. And, if released on bail, the applicant will interfere and frustrate our investigation. Our investigation also revealed that the applicant transferred large sums of monies outside Nigeria and he acquired several assets in Dubai and London with these funds. “The prosecution is prepared to prove its case within the shortest possible time if the application is refused and the court orders accelerated hearing,” Saidu said. The lead prosecution lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), arguing the counter affidavit yesterday, urged the court to refuse the bail applications by Dasuki and two others arraigned with him on Monday on a 19-count charge of criminal breach of public trust and diversion of public funds. They are ex-Finance and Administration Director in the office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu and former Executive Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Aminu Baba-Kusa. Jacobs faulted the argument by Dasuki’s lawyer, Ahmed Raji (SAN), that a Federal High Court, before which another case was pending against his client, had ruled that the offences are bailable. He contended that both cases were distinguishable. ‘‘Money laundering is a secondary offence and not a primary offence. But the charges before My Lord here are primary offences. My learned friend didn’t tell My Lord whether his client was enjoying the bail granted him by the other court before he was transferred to us (EFCC). Every money laundering case has a predicate offence.’’ Jacobs argued that presumption of innocence is not a sufficient ground for the accused persons to be granted bail. He noted that the status of the first defendant would intimidate the prosecution witnesses who had worked under him. ‘‘They are not entitled to bail because they may jump bail. I recognise that the granting or refusal of bail is at the discretion of the court, but if they will interfere with investigation of other cases that will be instituted against them, you can refuse them bail. If bail application is filed, it is not automatic that it must be granted,’’ Jacobs said. On Raji’s argument that the charges did not indicate that the alleged money was for procurement of arms, Jacobs said the proof of evidence showed the purposes for which the money was meant, which was for the purchase of security equipment. Moving his client’s bail application earlier, Raji urged the court to allow Dasuki on bail pending the conclusion of his trial. He argued that under the Constitution, an accused is presumed innocent, no matter the gravity of the charge before the court. Also, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 has made bail possible in all cases.’’ Raji urged the court to discountenance Jacobs’ argument, particularly in relation to his claim that the former NSA would interfere with further investigation and witnesses in the current case. He urged the court to seriously consider the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja which had earlier granted Dasuki bail in another case. “It will amount to internal inconsistency. I urge you, My Lord, to grant the first defendant bail on very liberal terms, even if you are not moved by the ruling by your brother at the Federal High Court.’’ Justice Baba-Yusuf cut in, telling Raji that the case before him and the one in which the first defendant is standing trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja are different. ‘‘Move the circumstances on which the bail should be granted and that is what will impress me,” Justice Baba-Yusuf said. Salisu’s lawyer, A.U. Mustapha, argued in a similar manner, noting that his client has served the country meritoriously for 29 years. “He is a responsible citizen of this country and he is ready to defend himself. He needs his liberty and unfettered access to his lawyer. He also needs to consult his books. So, he needs his freedom to be able to do all this,’’ he said. Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf adjourned till Friday for ruling on the bail application. He directed that the defendants be further remanded in the custody of the EFCC. http://thenationonlineng.net/efcc-dasuki-diverted-cash-to-buy-houses-in-dubai-london/ cc: lalasticlala |

Politics / We Did Not Receive One Kobo From Thisday's Boss- Tribune And New Telegraph by Blacksodje(m): 8:40am On Dec 12, 2015 |
THE African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publishers of the Tribune titles, has denied receiving any money through the publisher of Thisday newspapers, Mr Nduka Obaigbena, as compensation for attacks on its operations and personnel by soldiers in June 2014, although it filed claims like all other newspaper companies as requested for by the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN). A statement signed by the company’s Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief, Mr Edward Dickson, faulted claims made by Mr Obaigbena that the Tribune was one of the 12 newspaper companies compensated by the Federal Government for the June 2014 attacks on newspapers, their circulation personnel and vehicles by soldiers in Abuja and parts of the north. The two-paragraph statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to claims by the Publisher of Thisday newspapers, who is also the President of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, that a sum of N10 million was paid to our company through NPAN by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) as compensation for the disruption of our circulation operations, seizure of our newspapers and damage to our property by soldiers in June 2014. “Although, like other NPAN members, we filed claims as requested for by NPAN, the fact of the matter is that up till this moment, 11th December, 2015, our company is yet to receive a kobo as compensation through NPAN for the 2014 disruptive activities of the military to our operations.” New Telegraph too Also, the management of New Telegraph newspapers, in a statement signed by the Managing Director/ Editor-in-Chief, Mrs Funke Egbemode, denied receiving any money from Mr Obaigbena despite repeated demands for same from NPAN. The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to the inclusion of New Telegraph Newspapers on the list of media houses that THISDAY Publisher and President, Newspapers Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN) claimed he paid N10 million each to, from funds he received from the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki (retd), as compensation for the illegal seizure of some newspapers by the military during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. “It is on record that following the decision of NPAN to seek compensation from the Federal Government in the aftermath of the seizure of editions of newspapers by the military, New Telegraph computed its losses, which were passed to the association. However, since then, the company has heard nothing from the association on the matter. “Following a report that NPAN has begun paying N9 million (not N10 million as contained in the report that has gone viral on the internet), the management of Daily Telegraph Publishing Company Limited, publishers of New Telegraph, Saturday Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, has written three letters to NPAN for its share of the compensation; but regrettably, as at this moment, not even a kobo has been received. “The first letter was written on May 22, 2015 followed by another on July 16, 2015 with a reminder written on November 19, 2015. “Therefore, it is nothing but sheer falsehood for the NPAN president, who claimed he received the money on behalf of the association, to have included New Telegraph Newspapers as one of the beneficiaries of the funds, which as it has now emerged, was disbursed by the former NSA.” cc: lalasticlala http://tribuneonlineng.com/updated-tribune-denies-receiving-money-from-nduka-obaigbena-•new-telegraph-too |

Politics / Govt Investigating Dokpesi For Another N8b Fraud Allegation by Blacksodje(m): 9:00am On Dec 11, 2015 |
The Federal Government is investigating
businessman Raymond Dokpesi for his alleged
involvement in another fraud involving about
N8billion, the government’s lawyer, Rotimi
Jacobs (SAN), yesterday told a Federal High
Court in Abuja.
Jacobs said the Federal Government was about
rounding off investigations into a fresh
allegation of N8.4billion the AIT/Raypower
emeritus chairman collected from the Goodluck
Jonathan administration for airing the FIFA
U17 championship which Nigeria hosted in
January 27,2012.
He said though the airing right was granted his
company, DAAR Communication, by FIFA and
without the Federal Government as a party to
the contract, Dokpesi allegedly collected N8b
from the government for the execution of the
contract.
Jacobs was arguing the government’s counter-
affidavit against Dokpesi’s bail application.
Dokpesi was arraigned with his company, Daar
Investment and Holding Company Limited, on
Wednesday on a six-count charge. He was
accused of unlawfully receiving N2.1billion from
former National Security Adviser (NSA),
Mohammed Sambo Dasuki.
He pleaded not guilty and applied for bail.
Parties argued the bail application and the
prosecution’s counter affidavit yesterday.
Jacobs, urging the court to reject Dokpesi’s
application, argued that a bail to Dokpesi will
prejudice investigation into the N8b allegation.
He urged the court to take a judicial look at
the government’s affidavit evidence, which
indicated that no contract paper was exchanged
by Dokpesi and any agent of the government
when the N2.1b was paid to him.
Jacobs faulted Dokpesi’s claim of ill-health,
noting that not only did he fail to disclose the
nature of his illness, the letter of appointment
with the physicians exhibited by Dokpesi was
sent on December 5 when Dokpesi was already
in the custody of the EFCC.
Jacobs, who is the lead prosecution lawyer in
Dokpesi’s trial, said it would be dangerous to
admit Dokpesi to bail because, going by the
charges, he risked a jail term of seven years
upon conviction and, as such, may decide to flee
the country if allowed to go on bail.
Earlier, while arguing the bail application,
Dokpesi’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), stated
that the offences for which his client was
standing trial were bailable because they are
not capital offences.
He said Dokpesi had not in any way contributed
to any act of insurgency and that he would not
jump bail when granted.
Ozekhome also told the court that his client
was billed to travel abroad for a medical check-
up when he got a telephone call inviting him
orally to the EFCC and that without any
hesitation, Dokpesi honoured the invitation as a
law abiding citizen.
He also told the court that Dokpesi’s son’s
wedding had been fixed for 17 and 19 of this
month, he has invited prominent Nigerians and,
as such, he would be around at all times to
stand trial.
Ozekhome also submitted that Section 36 of the
1999 Constitution presumes his client innocent
until the contrary has been proved by the
prosecution.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole, after listening to both
lawyers, said he needed time to consider their
arguments and processes filed.
He adjourned till December 14 for ruling and
ordered that Dokpesi be remanded in the
custody of the EFCC. Politics / Oyegun To Faleke: Audu Abubakar's Death Shut You Out by Blacksodje(m): 2:54pm On Dec 10, 2015 |
John Oyegun, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the death of Abubakar Audu, candidate of the party in the November 21 election, “shut the gate of victory” against James Faleke, his running mate. Speaking with reporters in Abuja on Wednesday, Oyegun said Faleke will be replaced as deputy governor-elect should the need arise. After presenting Yahya Bello as the party’s candidate for the December 5 supplementary election, APC announced Faleke as Bello’s running mate but the deputy governorship candidate in substantive election, rejected the decision. He asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare him governor-elect, and chose Audu’s son as his running mate. Faleke argued that even if APC was to pick a candidate for the supplementary election, he ought to have been considered since he ran on a joint ticket with the deceased. But Oyegun disagreed, saying the party had put the Kogi issue behind. He said with time, the “frustration which emanated” as a result of the demise of Audu, would be a thing of the past. “On the Faleke issue, it is rather a straightforward and easy issue; we have replaced a governorship candidate,” he said. “If the need arises and subject to what the law says, we will also get a deputy governorship candidate but we will cross those bridges as they arise but they have not arisen yet. “As a political party, we simply understand the frustration that emanated from the death of Abubakar Audu. However, it is normal for us to accommodate the immediate reactions coming from the people involved. “They were at the gate of victory but the gate was shut in their faces because of the unfortunate death of their mentor, Abubakar Audu, who would have been our governor in the state. “So, a lot of things, which normally we would not have accepted, happened but we have to accept them so long that everybody will simmer down as time pass by. Wielding the big stick in a situation like this might not be appropriate but there will be a timeline to it, enough will be enough at a certain time. “In the next few weeks. depending on who goes to court or who doesn’t, we will know the boundaries of the law in respect of these issues. As at now, we are very glad with the results that we have got and I’m very sure that they would be upheld virtually in every tribunal whatsoever, because we have adopted simple commonsense solution, legally defendable. “We cross every bridge as we get to it; we’ll wait and see who does what and work out answers that meet each situation. We have thought the process through and we have won the election in Kogi/ “Those we feel aggrieved, it is for them to call to question whatever they feel aggrieved about and we are going to meet them on those grounds. For us in APC, Kogi is a settled issue; if you want to go to the tribunal, we’ll meet you there. If you want to go to court, we’ll meet you there.” Oyegun said the party’s stance on the controversial Bill for an Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and Other Matters known as the anti-social media bill was known. He said the social media space needed clean up as the use of outright abuses and insults instead of constructive criticisms was wrong. On subsidy, he said: “Whether subsidy goes or stays is an intricate and major issue. “If it has to go, the government must have to construct the palliatives to cushion the effect of the hardships that may come on the ordinary Nigerian. “Anyway, eventually, subsidy will have to go but we have not reached that stage yet. ‘’You cannot just wake up and announce that subsidy has been removed without putting the adequate programmes in place to cushion the negative aspects that may be involved.” Oyegun said minimum wage was a delicate issue because there were a lot of forces at work. “The economy was run aground so badly that they have to borrow to pay salaries and this was not the creation of APC,” he said. “Today all governments are borrowing to pay salaries and that cannot be sustained. What the solution is on the longer term, the machinery of governance is still working on. There is no method that is adopted that will not create stresses on any system but at the end of the day, we will find an answer.” Oyegun expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of Bayelsa election, but said since INEC had made a pronouncement on it, the option before the APC was to accept it or go to court. “We are waiting for the processes to be concluded, but I must say we have a lot of reservations about what has gone on up till the present moment,” he said. “If we win as we expect to win, the kind of reactions that we’ll take will be different.” https://www.thecable.ng/audus-death-shut-the-gate-against-you-oyegun-tells-faleke |

Politics / Most Biafran Agitators Did Not Witness The Civil War- Ezeemo by Blacksodje(m): 8:26am On Dec 04, 2015 |
A frontline industrialist, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, has called on the pro-Biafra protesters to have a re-think of their actions and consider its consequences on the generality of the Igbo residing in different parts of the country and tread with caution. He said grounding businesses in the South East, destroying properties of their brothers, and preventing women from fending for their families, among other negative implications of violent protests, do not give credibility to their call, rather dialogue and diplomacy must be employed in resolving any issue of interest, not war or confrontational principle. Ezeemo said that 99.9 per cent of the people parading themselves today as pro- Biafra crusaders and going about their agitation in a violent manner did not see or experience the 1967- 1970 Nigerian civil war and as such do not know the consequences of their action. He called on the protesters to go home and ask their parents, uncles, war veterans in their various localities what it means to incite war and its benefits. “There is nothing good that will come out of conflict, confusion, crisis, not to talk of war where every where will be in comatose. “Native intelligence must be applied in every frontier of Igbo existence so as to achieve the resounding progress we need to leave behind for upcoming generations, not destroying the empire we managed to build after the civil war. “Igbo are very much blessed and loved exceedingly by God, no country anywhere in the world had recovered half what that Igbo had after going through the turbulent sea of war, we need to be grateful to God for this grace,” he said. Ezeemo said the Igbo should be wiser in handling its affairs so as to ensure that all the efforts of our nationalists do not go in vain, Nigeria is for all and we cannot after much sacrifices lose out due to unplanned and uncoordinated programmes. He said the Igbo should borrow a leaf from the manner in which the Yoruba handled their case during the annulment of June 12, 1993, presidential election and ensure that we do not inflict injury on ourselves in the course of fighting for our rights. Ezeemo urged the protesters to shelve any violence mechanism and go back to the elders who know better for advice and techniques on solving the impasse, while urging the government to wade into the reasons for agitation and for resolution as the country was going through lots of economic and insecurity crises. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/most-biafran-agitators-did-not-see-civil-war-ezeemo/ 2 Likes 1 Share |

Politics / Enough Is Enough, GOC Warns Biafra Agitators by Blacksodje(m): 10:46am On Nov 18, 2015 |
Enugu – The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army has warned agitators for Biafra that they are now crossing the red line and that its officers and men are battle-ready. The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) the division, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, told newsmen in Enugu that the army would not fold its hands while such persons destroyed lives and property in the country. “The warning to the agitators is to tell them that enough is enough,’’ Attahiru said, adding that it was inexcusable for troops to stand aside and watch the security situation deteriorate, leading to loss of lives or damage to peoperty. “The Nigerian Army would like to send an unequivocal warning to all and sundry, more specifically to all those threatening and agitating for the dismemberment of the country, committing treasonable felony and arson. “Once deployed, the Nigerian Army shall apply the rules of engagement to the letter in order for peace to prevail,’’ he said. He noted that the agitators had recorded cases of lawlessness in Aba, Port Harcourt, Onitsha, Abakaliki and Enugu. Attahiru said that the army took its time to adopt the present stand, saying that it was the primary duty of the police to maintain certain levels of security in the country. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/11/enough-is-enough-goc-warns-biafra-agitators/ |
Education / AAU Medical Studrnts To Pay Almost 250,000 Naira As School Fees Triples by Blacksodje(m): 9:01am On Nov 16, 2015 |
Students of the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, are at loggerheads with the management of the school following the latter’s decision to increase school fees for the 2015/2016 Academic PREMIUM TIMES’ checks showed that the increases in the fees were between 170 per cent to 240 per cent. Details of the schedule of fees showed that medicine had the highest increase from N47,000 to N160,000, a 240 per cent increase. Natural sciences, Education, Agriculture, and Physiology had their fees increased from N41,000 to N112, 500, a 174 per cent increase Also Business courses like Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics and Banking and Finance attracted 175 per cent increase, as students will now pay N110,000 as against N40,000 earlier paid by the students. Engineering courses, microbiology, computer science, architecture and building had their fees raised by 172 per cent from N45,000 to N122, 500. Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, Law, and Accounting was increased from N47,000 to N127,500 or 170 per cent. The institute of education would now attract a fee of N110,000 instead of N40,000 paid last session, which is a 175 per cent increase. Arts, Social Sciences and Fine and Applied Arts got a raise from N34,500 to N96,250, an increase of 179 per cent. These are apart from the admission acceptance fees requiring medical students to pay N75,000 while other students are to pay N60,000. After settling the fees, students would also be required to pay other charges such as Students’ Union dues, N1000; AAU Legal/File, N800; AAU Students welfare assurance, N500; Matriculation gown, N2000 and Concession fee, N10,000. Baring any changes, a medical student would have to pay a whopping N249,300 per session under the new school fees regime. It was gathered that students will continue to pay throughout their study in the institution, what they paid in their first year. Findings however showed that because a new Students’ Union is yet to be inaugurated, there is currently no rallying point for the incoming students. However a group of concerned students have put themselves together to tackle the management on the new fees regime. Calling themselves students’ activists, they have undertaken to engage the management and other stakeholders, including parents to force down the new school fees. Speaking on behalf of the students, Alex Peter, said the hike in the fees threatened the educational sector, as it makes education completely unaffordable. “We are not oblivious of the hardship that Nigerian (AAU Ekpoma) students suffer in their campuses because of the corruption that has eaten up the soul of every sector in our society today,” he said. “Students that are not paid bursaries, students that are not paid allowances, students whose future aren’t guaranteed even after spending years going through school shouldn’t be subjected to massive exploitation and unaffordable, ridiculous and obnoxious school charges.” Mr. Peter noted that a students’ caretaker committee appointed by the school management after the earlier one was impeached, connived with the management to impose the new fees. According to him, the newly elected government had not been inaugurated and in that situation could not begin to confront the issues officially. He said he and his group of students were calling on the governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole to intervene in the matter and reverse the hike. Meanwhile, the management of the institution has defended the hike in the school fees, saying it was still affordable and competitive. The Public Relations Officer and Deputy Registrar, Information and Protocol, Chris Adamaigbo, told PREMIUM TIMES that the fees did not affect returning students but only newly admitted students. According to him, old students would continue to pay the old rates until they graduate from the school, noting that it is the policy of the school’s management to have it so. Mr. Adamaigbo stated that the increase in the school fees should not be an issue at the moment, because those affected were yet to be students of the institution, wondering why anyone should be contending the policy. “If you have an estate and a potential tenant comes in to rent the place, you will tell him what you want him to pay, it will be his choice to decide whether he wants to accept it or not,” Mr. Adamaigbo said. “So they have a choice whether to accept it or not. As we speak no dime has been added to the fees of returning students.” He said that a recent accreditation visit from the National Universities Commission, saw Ambrose Ali University commended for its modest fees when compared to other universities of its category in the country. Mr. Adamaigbo, however, stated that the matter was being handled with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the controversies were abated sources: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/193229-edo-university-aau-increases-fees-by-about-200-per-cent-for-new-students.html |

Thirty-six ministers on Wednesday, took their oath of office, which automatically signaled the constitution of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet. The President, after the swearing in, said that his administration would continue to implement policies that would improve the economy of the nation. He added that the Federal Government would implement policies that will generate massive employment for youths and ensure food security. He reiterated his determination to diversify the economy with agriculture becoming a major sector. Politics / Not All Ministers Will Have Full Control Of Ministry – Presidency by Blacksodje(m): 8:37am On Nov 03, 2015 |
President Muhammadu Buhari will assign portfolios to all his 36 ministers , the president ’ s spokesman , Garba Shehu has said , noting that, not all ministers will have full control of the ministries . The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity made the clarification in an interview with Daily Trust. The president had reportedly said in an interview with Channels TV last week that not all the 36 nominees would be ministers as some of them would only sit in the cabinet in order to meet the constitutional provision which stipulates that each state of the federation must have a representative in the cabinet . But the presidential aide stated that all the 36 ministerial nominees that had been screened by the Senate would be assigned portfolios. Shehu clarified that what President Buhari meant was that not all the ministers would have full control of the ministries . He said the president would retain the structure in which there are substantive ministers and ministers of state. According to the presidential aide, it is not possible to have a more ministries than the number of ministers . “What the president meant ( in the interview granted) was that not all the ministers in his cabinet will have the full control of the ministries . You know it is not possible to have the number of ministries more than the number of ministers . Even former President Goodluck Jonathan had 28 ministries and 42 ministers . “So , what the president meant was that some of his cabinet members would be ministers of state, ” Shehu said . source: http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/11/03/not-all-ministers-will-have-full-control-of-ministry-presidency/ |

Politics / I’m Concerned About Traffic Gridlock, Robberies –gov Ambode by Blacksodje(m): 7:20pm On Oct 29, 2015 |
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday released the policy direction of his administration for the next three and half years, just as he appealed for the support and cooperation of all Lagos people in moving the state forward. The Governor who spoke at the inaugural retreat organised by the State Government for Commissioners, Special Advisers and body of Permanent Secretaries in the state, expressed deep concern over the persistent traffic gridlock in the metropolis, and the increase in spate of robberies. He said in the interim, he has directed the fixing of all potholes to ease vehicular movement, just as security agencies have been mandated to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycle operators popularly called Okada riders on highways noting that aside the risks of accidents, such can also be a security threat to the people. Governor Ambode, who said the government is also working hard to restrict street hawking, urged the people to stop patronising them, so as to discourage street traders from the highways. “We have already hit the ground running. I’m deeply concerned about the issues that Lagosians are sending back to me and the issues range from security issues, traffic gridlock. Politics / Breaking News: Tribuna Sacks Taraba's Speaker by Blacksodje(m): 7:07pm On Oct 29, 2015 |
The election petition tribunal sitting in Jalingo has
nullified the election of the Speaker of the Taraba
State House of Assembly, Hon Abel Peter Diah.
Delivering judgment on Wednesday in the petition
filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC)
candidate for Mbamga state constituency, Mr.
Emmanuel Bongo, the tribunal ordered the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
to withdraw the certificate of return issued to the
Speaker pending the conclusion of elections in eight
polling units in the constituency.
The APC candidate had filed a petition before the
tribunal challenging the victory of Hon Diah on the
grounds that election in nine polling units of the
constituency did not conform substantially to the
provisions of the Electoral Act.
In the ruling, which was
read by Justice A.M Ali,
on behalf of the three
man panel of justices, the tribunal held that
election in eight polling units out of the total 48
polling units did not conform substantially with the
provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended
and therefore, ordered the INEC to conduct fresh
election in the eight polling units within 90 days. source: http://dailypost.ng/2015/10/29/tribunal-sacks-taraba-speaker/ |

Health / How The Doctors In St. Nicholas Hospital Killed Chaz. B by Blacksodje(m): 9:11am On Oct 19, 2015 |
My husband called me at about 6:40 AM, Friday the 21st of November 2014, from work. He asked me to come and pick him up, that he was not feeling too good. I left with the driver to get him. When I got there, he was too uncomfortable, and he asked me to take him home. But on our way home, I noticed that he was in pains, so I asked the driver to reverse the car and head instead to the hospital (St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos). Chaz B On reaching there, we met Judith, the receptionist. I asked if there was a Doctor around. This was around 7 PM. She said yes and after some time we were asked to go into Room 2. Right there we met a young Doctor called Dr. Ogidigben Kevwe. He asked a few questions that I answered while my husband was wallowing in pains. He (Kevwe) opened an emergency file because according to him, my husband’s file was locked up in Dr. Bamgboye’s office, and no one has access to that office. I told Dr. Kevwe that my husband had incisional hernia surgery done a few months back at the same hospital, August to be precise and it was performed by one Dr. Mohan an India man, and Dr. Balogun at St. Nicholas Hospital. He started to examine him. He then left us in his office and said he was coming back. He came back after some minutes and said he was trying to reach Dr. Balogun from the reception, but he is not getting through. So I used my husband’s phone and dialed Balogun and got through. At this point, I gave the phone to Dr. Kevwe, and he started explaining to Dr. Balogun, what he thought was the problem. Balogun on the other end asked if my husband was in pains, and Kevwe said yes. Dr. Kevwe told Dr. Balogun that he was suspecting intestinal obstruction. Dr. Balogun asked if there was any swelling around where the incision was done, but Dr.Kevwe said no. Balogun asked if there was any reddish sign around the same area, and Kevwe said no. So Dr. Kevwe suggested giving him antibiotics, but Balogun said that they have to be careful what they give him, since he is a post kidney transplant patient. Balogun asked them to give him a particular injection twice to ease the pains, and he said that they should observe him till the next morning. So I left to go get him what he had asked for (his tea and his stockings). On my way around Bonny Camp, I got a call from a strange number, when I picked up; it was Dr. Kevwe, on the other end. He asked me to turn back to come pick up my husband, and I asked why? He (Kevwe) said that my Husband is feeling much better, and wants to go home. I asked the driver to reverse and head back to the hospital. And on getting there, I went in and asked the Dr. again why he wants me to take him home. He repeated once again that he feels much better and I asked Kevwe if he was asking me to take him home because he thinks he feels better or that the hospital doesn’t have a bed for him. I asked this because the nurse had mentioned earlier that she needed to check for bed space. Kevwe at this point told me that my Husband would be fine, he asked me to take my Husband home and bring him the following morning. Meanwhile, before then, Kewe wrote a prescription of drugs for my husband which I took to the pharmacist and when the lady there saw it, she asked which Dr. I saw. I told her that it was Dr. Kewe. She moved over to the other side and called the Dr’s office. They both argued about the drug that he wrote, she then gave me just1 tablet of Exforge. When my husband got up from the hospital bed, he staggered and I held him and asked if he’s fine. The Dr. said that it’s the injection that was given to him that he would be fine. So I took him home. We got home. And just about 15minutes after, my husband said he felt like throwing up. I brought a bowl to him, and he vomited, and he felt a bit better. He slept for some time and got up in excruciating pain. Immediately I jumped into my clothes and then called Dr. Balogun, to say that we are on our way back to the hospital. He said no problem that the doctor will be waiting for me. I asked, which doctor? And he said the doctor is their senior surgeon by the name Dr. Fadiran. Balogun said that Dr. Fadiran was the doctor on call. We got to the hospital in less than 20 minutes; my husband came down from the car himself. He walked into the hospital by himself before he was wheeled into the ER. Then came Dr. Kevwe, and I asked him about the senior surgeon, and he told me that he would be coming very soon. I wasn’t too happy with that, as I had mentioned to Dr. Balogun that my husband was in serious pains. I expected to see a consultant like he said. Kevwe started by trying to put him on a drip that took forever, as he was unable to successfully get his veins while my husband was languishing in pain. My husband kept telling them (DR. Kevwe and the nurse) that he wants to throw up or use the restroom, and he would be fine. He kept saying that if he throws up he will be fine. Meanwhile, Dr. Kevwe was taking instructions on the phone from Dr. Fadiran. This was when I asked when the Dr. would come. I kept asking, “when will the doctor come?” And Dr. Kevwe said Dr. Fadiran asked him to get my entire husband’s information. DR. Kevwe told me that they are waiting for the Radiologist and the Anesthesiologist, and none of these people showed up. My husband kept on saying that he wants to throw up. But then, Dr. Kevwe asked the nurse to give him an injection, I asked what the injection was for? And he said it will stop him from vomiting. He became so uncomfortable and was losing his breath. They put him on oxygen, but I guess he was already choking. Meanwhile, Kevwe was still taking instructions from Dr. Fadiran on the phone. At this time, he started gasping for air. Meanwhile, before then, another doctor showed up. I don’t know his name, but he’s average in height and dark complexioned. He inserted a suction tube into his mouth, but I guess he was two hours or more late with that. Because if that was done when I brought him to the hospital that morning, he would have been here with me today. If Dr. Fadiran were at the hospital, even after he was told that it was an emergency; my husband would have been here with me. If the anesthesiologist was at the hospital, he probably would have been here with me. If the radiologist were around on that morning to at least see what was happening inside of him, he probably would have been here with me. If Dr. Kevwe knew exactly what he was doing that morning without taking instructions from Dr. Fadiran on the phone, with an emergency case right in front of him, my husband would have been here. My husband died of total negligence on the part of St. Nicholas Hospital, and I know it. Like I said earlier, the doctor was 2 hours plus late with the suction, because, at this time, the nurse was already calling my husband’s name, shouting “Mr. Charles, Mr. Charles!” He was given four adrenaline injections. The drip wasn’t going at all, all this while lest I forget. I watched my husband struggled to breath. I watched him fight for his life, and I was right there when he died. And even though they were busy with CPR, I knew when he passed on because immediately he stopped struggling, fluid started gushing out of his mouth and nose, I knew that was it. That was the same fluid that was choking him. If there were a senior consultant or surgeon at the hospital as at when I brought him, he probably, would have been helped. In between all this, Dr. Kevwe at a time said to Dr. Fadiran on the phone that he should come now as the patient is in a critical condition. He said to the same Dr. Fadiran that 11 O’clock might be too late. I brought my husband at about 6 AM to St. Nicholas Hospital and he died at about 9.30AM without receiving prompt and adequate care. Human life cannot continue to be lost soo cheaply in Nigerian Hospital, people must be made to account for their actions as professionals hence I have contacted my Lawyers to investigate the cause of death as he has died with our dreams, aspirations, and vision and planned future together. Dr Osagie E. Ehanire Was Also Edo State
Coordinator of General Muhammadu Buhari
Campaign Organisation, where he urged Nigerians
to disregard the insinuations that All Progressives
Congress, APC, standard bearer, Gen. Muhammadu
Buhati (retd) will Islamize the country if elected
president in the coming general election in March
this year.
He noted the peddling was ridiculous and being
used by detractors to sway the minds of Christians
against Buhari who is a devoted Muslim, as
Islamization of the country will be a tough hurdle
to achieve.
Dr. Ehanire said Muhammadu Buhari cares less of
religion being an open minded individual who
practises his religion with sincerity and does not
deter others from practising their belief, noting
such unfounded statement will not work anymore.
The Coordinator said the noise about whether or
not Muhammadu Buhari possess secondary
certificate has been taken to the point of
absurdity, saying the retired General has passed
through different points of screening, both home
and abroad, in his days as a military officer. source: http://dailymail.com.ng/biographyprofilehistory-of-dr-osagie-e-ehanire/ |
