Politics / Driver Crushes Friend After Sharing Ogogoro In Benin City by Blacksodje(m): 11:47am On Sep 30, 2015
BENIN CITY—
Tragedy struck in Benin City on
Monday, as a driver attached to a private firm in
Edo State, crushed his friend, Pa Egbe
Eghobawaye, to death, after sharing a local gin,
popularly known as Ogogoro, together.
The tragedy started when the driver was said to
have visited Pa Eghobawaye, who was the
Odionwere (oldest man) of Nekpenekpen Street,
off First East Circular road in Benin City, and
requested for the local gin from the wife of the
deceased, who deals in the local gin.
After sharing the Ogogoro with Pa Eghobawaye,
said to be in his 80s, he decided to go back to his
office, but lost control of the vehicle and crushed
his friend to death, to the surprise of residents
of the area.
Angry residents were said to have descended on
the driver, but he was rescued by some youths,
who handed him over to the Police.
The Odionwere was said to be having a shave in
front of his house after the drink with his friend,
when the truck driver lost control, and hit him.
Wife of the deceased who witnessed the incident,
was said to have fainted, and was rushed to the
hospital where she was revived.
Brother to the deceased, Mr. Solomon Omoregie,
who spoke to newsmen, lamented that “for a
company driver to kill my brother like this, is very
callous. We will not take the law into our hands
and we have told our family members not to take
any action by burning the vehicle or by killing the
man. We want the police to take up the case and
do what is necessary”
At the time of this report, it was gathered that
the Odionwere was buried Monday night following
his instruction to his children that his corpse
should not be deposited in the mortuary.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations
Officer, DSP Stephen Onwuche, said the driver
had been arrested and that investigations were
ongoing to ascertain the real cause of the
incident.

Politics / Death Of Judge Stalls Saraki’s Suit Against CCT At A’court by Blacksodje(m): 11:40am On Sep 30, 2015
The lawsuit instituted by the Senate President, Dr.
Bukola Saraki, at the Court of Appeal in Abuja
challenging the charges of ‘false’ assets
declaration levelled against him by the Code of
Conduct Bureau (CCB) has been stalled due to the
death of the presiding judge of the Abuja Division,
Justice Abubakar Abdulkadir Jega in Mina, Saudi
Arabia.
The late Justice Jega died in the tragic stampede
which led to the death of over 750 persons and
injured over 900 others.
The court clerk informed the people who had
already arrived in the court ON Tuesday that the
case had been postponed for one week to give the
justices and staff of the appellate court time to
mourn their dead colleague.
Justice Jega and Justice Musa Hassan Alkali were
among the 56 Nigerian pilgrims who lost their lives
in the stampede during the symbolic hajj ritual of
stoning the devil at the Jamarat Bridge in Mina.
The Court of Appeal, while refusing the ex-parte
application filed by Saraki to set aside the bench
warrant and order for his arrest issued by the
Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) penultimate
Monday, had adjourned till Tuesday.
Saraki had through his counsel, Adebayo Adelodun
(SAN), prayed the appellate court for an order to
stay execution of the ruling of the tribunal
delivered on September 18 ordering the Senate
president’s arrest.
However, the three-member panel of the appellate
court presided over by Justice Moore Adumein, had
held that even though the court has the general
power to make an interim order or grant any
injunction, for the court to exercise such power,
the application for interim order shall be by motion
on notice.
Despite the postponement in the appellate court,
the Federal High Court in Abuja will today hear the
preliminary objections along with the substantive
matter of the ex parte motion, which Saraki
brought before the lower court.

Politics / IGP To Arase: Paying Ransom To Kidnappers De-motives Police Officers by Blacksodje(m): 11:33am On Sep 30, 2015
Apparently miffed over the disclosure by
elder statesman, Chief Olu Falae, that his
family had to pay a ransom to his
kidnappers to effect his release, the
Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Solomon
Arase, has described the action as a
disincentive to the force.
He said such action could only de-motivate
hardworking officers and men of the force,
who daily risk dear lives in pursuit of
criminal elements.
Speaking through Force Public Relations
Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, in a
statement in Abuja yesterday, the IGP said
as a law enforcement agency guided by the
rule of law and professional ethics, the
police do not under any circumstance
encourage payment of ransom to kidnappers
or other criminals.
He said that would only tantamount to re
warding crime and motivating other
criminals to follow that path.
“As such, the police was not in any way privy
to any arrangement that would have led to
the payment of ransom by the elder
statesman or his family. For the respected
chief to declare that he paid a ransom for
his release is therefore a de-motivating
news.
“Our approach was a professional response
to what we saw as a crime against a
respected national personality known to
embrace peace and who has dedicated most
of his valuable life to selfless service of our
nation.
“The police under the leadership of the IGP
deployed our unique intelligence and
operational capabilities, including police
helicopters for aerial surveillance.
“Our intelligence and operational teams, com
prising Intelligence Response Team (a
special anti-kidnapping unit), conventional
and mobile policemen were deployed for the
rescue operation.
“They followed the path from the point of
kidnapping at his Ilado farm, along Igbatoro
road in Akure, Ondo State, and trailed the
hoodlums through bushes to Owo in Ondo
State.
“In the process, we were able to identify
the major actors, and currently high level
police activities are being emplaced to
apprehend and bring them to justice,” he
said

Politics / Olu Falae Admits Paying Ransom To Kidnappers by Blacksodje(m): 7:12pm On Sep 28, 2015
A former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Olu Falae, on Monday confessed that his family paid ransom to his abductors before he was freed on Thursday.
He said the kidnappers only freed him after they received payment, adding that he trekked for 15 kilometres before he was picked up by the police in Owo, several kilometres from Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The former minister’s disclosure has put a lie to the claim by the Nigeria police that no ransom was paid before his release.
Details of Mr. Falae’s speech today will come shortly.
Background
Mr. Falae was released Thursday, four days after he was abducted by unknown gunmen.
The Ondo Police Public Relations Officer, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed his release on Thursday, said no ransom was paid for the release.
Mr. Falae’s abductors had demanded N100million ransom for his release, later reducing it to N90million.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, also said in a statement Thursday night that the former minister was rescued after the Force launched aerial and land operations in search of the kidnappers.
She said the rescue operation, which began on Monday, the day the Afenifere chieftain was abducted, took the search party to all parts of Ondo state.
He said Mr. Falae was eventually rescued in Owo.
The chieftain of the Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere and National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, was abducted last Monday at his Ilado farm along Igbatoro Road, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
“The operation which started in the early hours of the aforementioned date, combed every nook and cranny of Ondo state till success was achieved in Owo,” Ms. Kolawole had said.

Romance / Met Him On Skype And Got Pregnant For Him On 1st Date (with Pixs) by Blacksodje(m): 2:07pm On Sep 24, 2015
A 38-year-old mother-of-two, Angharad Lovering, who married a 19-year old Jamaican toyboy, Loric Bullock, almost half her age after he romanced her on Skype and BBM, insists they are the 'real deal'. The woman from South Wales, who flew to the Caribbean for a 3-weeks holiday to meet her young lover, says she knew it was meant to be when she came back pregnant. The young lover proposed to her by text and despite having only met him once, she accepted and took out a £3,000 loan to pay for his temporary British visa before marrying him last May. In October 2013, she gave birth to their baby boy, Tyrese, with a doctor holding her hand and Loric 5,000 miles away on the end of the phone. It was not until March 2014, when Tyrese was five months old, that Loric got his visa and could fly to the UK to meet his son for the first time, and his fiancé for the second, marrying in the May. Despite the age gap and their unconventional courtship, she insists that they are the 'real deal' and 'doesn't give a damn' what critics think. They now live together in Cardiff with their son Tyrese and Angharad's daughter from a previous relationship, Daisy, 15. Ms Lovering admits that people often mistake Loric for for her son or her teenage daughter's boyfriend. 'A lot of people confuse him for her boyfriend. I don't look as old as I am and I certainly don't dress my age because I don't want to look my age. I don't have wrinkles so I'm lucky. But Loric has a baby face. A couple of people have said to my daughter, "Is that your boyfriend?" and she has to say, "No, it's my stepfather." I keep a very small circle of friends and I don't really get on with my family so I don't give a damn what they think.' Angharad and Loric, now 22, first started talking when she took Daisy whose father is Jamaican over to the country to meet her grandparents in 2012. 'While I was there I met some guy and through that I got talking to Loric on Blackberry Messenger. I didn't think anything would come of it because he was really young - he looked about 12 in his picture. He looked like a baby, but we just kept chatting and got on really well.' When Angharad got back to the UK, she and Loric embarked on transatlantic courtship over Skype, texts and voice messages. Six months later Angharad went on a three-week holiday to Portmore, Jamaica, so that they could finally meet in real life. 'I was desperate to go and meet him,' she said. 'We spent almost three weeks and we just had a lot of fun. I thought he would just be nice to chat to but we completely fell for each other. We got on really well and then he said 'I love you'. When I got home and found out I was pregnant we saw it as a sign that we were meant to be. All we had had was three amazing weeks together and a million phone calls, but actually we didn't really know each other at all. When he finally got here, he became a father and we had no time together. Our whirlwind romance was now a reality. We didn't realise how much we didn't know about each other and we were tiptoeing around each other, but then we started getting to know one another as a family.' The couple married two months later so that Loric could secure a UK visa. They walked down the aisle in a £250 register office ceremony on May 31 2014. Source: Dailymail

Politics / Is Saraki Destined For KIRIKIRI? by Blacksodje(m): 9:06am On Sep 23, 2015
Boy!!!!!!

Was it great seeing Bukola Saraki
docked finally! It took the resilience of
a brave, no-nonsense Judge Danladi Umar to
demystify and bring down to mother earth
the arrogant Saraki. From now on, no Nigerian,
no matter how highly placed, would consider
himself above the law. Henceforth, the Super
Ministers of yesteryears; the Mercurial
Governors of the past, who thought they had
escaped with their loot, will no longer know
peace. Twelve years...12 long years since
Saraki filed a phony asset declaration form
and he is being called to account for it. In
Nigeria…in this same Nigeria where just a
few months ago, corruption was not considered
stealing according to its President? Thank
God almighty that we are witnesses to this
revolution.
Senator Bukola Saraki in Court facing
charges of corruption
Apparently, Saraki didn’t get the circular
that the era of impunity; the era of “nobody
can touch me”; the era of “pull my lips so I
can spit” are all gone. He still thinks we are in
the Jonathan era when the President could
just call over to the IGP or EFCC Chairman’s
office and tell them who to NOT prosecute. He
thinks we are in the era when the President’s
body language and total demeanor
discouraged judges and law enforcement
agencies from prosecuting corrupt officials.
Somebody needed to pass the memorandum
over to the Senate President’s office, wake
him up from his dream and let him smell the
coffee. Judge Umar did that for us. These
are different times, my friends.
The rant from Saraki acolytes is that he is
being victimized because he is the Senate
President. Please come off that nonsense. Sell
that balderdash to those hangers-on who feed
off the crumbs from your table. You are a
victim of greed, kleptomania and arrogance
tripod. The arrogance…is it not the same
arrogance that made you to describe your
Vice President as an “ordinary commissioner”
when he tried to mediate the NASS crisis you
started simply because VP Yemi Osinbajo was
a commissioner in Lagos when you were
governor?
Obviously, Saraki believed that nobody who
held a position considered lower than his would
ever rise to a position higher than his in the
future. So, nobody from Kwara, or from any
other part of Nigeria, who held a position
beneath that of governor could ever hold a
position higher than whatever Saraki holds at
any point in time. Such childishness! Is it not
the same arrogance that got him to thumb his
nose at the APC leadership when he was asked
to help the party save face by allowing their
preferred candidates to occupy other Senate
leadership positions; this after he had
colluded with his PDP friends to disobey and
embarrass the party in his inordinate quest to
become Number Three citizen? Is it not the
same arrogance that got him to remark: “the
President can go to hell. I don’t need him. He
needs me to succeed” when he was asked to
go and mend fences with Buhari over the
crisis that followed his ascension to the
Senate presidency?
They begged him…oh; did every reasonable
party official not beg him? But he did not
budge. They also warned him. When a man
continues to climb the tree past the branches
and past the leaves, he is about to fall to the
ground. Saraki’s dog failed to heed the
hunter’s whistle. Instead, he lined up Atiku
Abubakar behind himself. In tow too was the
Emir of Ilorin who could hardly breathe
without Saraki’s handout. They both told him
to keep doing his macabre dance; that they
had his back. And he kept dancing. He failed
to note that the time when Atiku influenced
anything was long gone. And that only in parts
of Ilorin could the current emir call the shots.
Saraki lined up those whom the Buhari anti-
corruption crusade has reduced to
inconsequential, political paperweights and
paper tigers. He was heading straight for
perdition but did not know it. For someone
with so much baggage, it has to be the height
of tomfoolery or sheer obscene arrogance for
him to remain in no-speaking terms with both
the President and the Vice President and
expect everything to be honky-dory.
Even if President Muhammadu Buhari was
inclined to helping the Senator out of his
self-inflicted wound, how could he have gone
about it? Call Judge Umar and tell him what?
“Stop prosecuting my good, incorruptible
friend, lover of the people of Kwara and
doyen of my party’s leadership”? No. It is not
in Buhari’s DNA to intercede on behalf of
characters like Saraki who were born with the
silver spoon in their mouth, placed in positions
of trust and privilege, but who plundered
their nation’s wealth and then continue to
wear the toga of arrogance and petulance
that know no bounds
The obscene nature of his arrogance is
reflected in the way he was brought up and
the way he lived his life till date. From the
day he came into limelight as senior officer
at the now-defunct Societe Generale bank,
through his entire time as governor and his
election as Senator, graft, greed and power-
drunkenness had been his middle names.
Hundreds of people, including a close relative
of mine, lost their entire life-savings at
Societe while Saraki was in charge there
recklessly issuing all sorts of huge loans
without collaterals. Word on the street was
that the loans were made to people and
entities fronting for Saraki or his father.
What was also clear was that while all
investors in Societe lost money, Saraki and his
father made money in leaps and bounds.
By his own admission, Saraki, in 2003 had
N51.5 million in Nigeria, 2.9 million pounds
sterling and $400,000 dollars in his
domiciliary accounts. He owned at least eight
properties in Nigeria worth more than N2.2
trillion. He also owned eight properties in
London – all purchased about the same time in
2003 and worth more than $12.6 million. These
did not include 15 automobiles (bought
between 1997 and 2002) ranging from a
Ferrari to 10 Mercedes Benzes, with four of
his vehicles being bullet-proof – all valued at
more than N263 million. In short, before (and
I mean BEFORE!) he became governor in 2003,
Saraki was worth a whopping N10.2 billion!
This, for a man who did not own a single
factory and was not manufacturing anything!
After that, Saraki governed Kwara State for
eight years. Your guess is as good as mine as
to how much more he made while in charge of
Kwara State funds in the middle of the oil
boom.
This is the kind of sleaze that the Code of
Conduct Bureau was set up to detect and
prevent. And some gullible Saraki loyalists are
crying “victimization” when they are actually
the victims of his kleptomania. Rather than
trooping from Ilorin to Abuja to provide
useless “moral support” for someone who has
stolen their children’s future as they did
when he was arraigned, these hungry and
rented supporters ought to be calling for
Saraki to resign his Senate seat so they could
send someone else whose probity they can
vouch for to represent them. It is confounding
seeing these hapless people empathizing with
someone who has been indicted by the police
for forging documents with which he got
elected as Number One lawmaker in our
country; whose wife is yet to clear her name
in the corruption charges she is facing with
the EFCC and who has stupendous wealth far
beyond his legitimate earnings.
But if the hungry and hapless ordinary people
did not know better, what about the 50-plus
Senators who were so vicariously traumatized
by what is happening to Saraki that they
trooped to the Tribunal to provide support for
this embodiment of all the vices we pray that
our children eschew? How could any
reasonable and responsible person be proud to
be led by an entity like Saraki who lacks
sound moral upbringing and who is driven by
extreme kleptomaniac ideation for the
purpose only of satisfying his unbridled,
vaulting ambition? Curiously, I have not heard
a single governor make a statement
condemning any of Saraki’s alleged crimes or
his attempted flight from justice. In other
climes, party leaders and all sorts of national
leaders will lead the chorus of those asking
Saraki to resign and stop bringing the
hallowed chambers of the Senate into
disrepute.
How shameful did it look, watching on
television that Saraki lawyer…the obscenely
fat, apparently equally undisciplined Joseph
Daudu, clutching at straws like a drowning
man trying to eke out a safe landing for
Saraki? It was indeed a fall from grace to
grass for both attorney and client. If a
secondary school class monitor got ridiculed
like that, he would resign his position. But
knowing Nigeria and Nigerians, Saraki will sit
tight shamelessly. At the very next sitting of
the Senate, one Senator should rescue the
legislative institution by moving the motion to
strip Saraki of his seat as Senate President.
That is the honorable thing to do if the
Senators have any modicum of respect for
themselves and for Nigerians.
I refer the reader to a piece I wrote on this
website last month - “Buhari Dead Serious
about Corruption – Masu Gudu Su Gudu (Run
if you Must)” in which I opined that this
President’s anti-corruption freight train will
run over anybody in its way. Big-time
politicians like Saraki need to listen to little
people like me who give them free counsel and
fair warning. Interesting days lie ahead for
Saraki and his ilk that have milked Nigeria
dry.

Politics / Niger State Governor Under Fire For Watching Chelsea Vs Arsenal's Match by Blacksodje(m): 1:28pm On Sep 22, 2015
Governor Abubakar Sani of Niger State has
come under criticism following his trip to
London to watch last Saturday’s game between
Chelsea and Arsenal; with many residents of
the state describing the trip as frivolous,
considering the financial problems of the
state.
Reacting to the backlash, the governor
explained on his Twitter page that he was at
Stamford Bridge to watch the match on the
invitation of Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi, who
plans to set up a football academy in the
state.
According to him, Mikel approached the state
government to partner with it in developing its
sports.
This explanation, however, did not go down well
with residents of the state.
“Things are hard for us in Niger while our
governor is travelling to watch matches,” said
Moses Akwu, a businessman. “I heard they said
he was invited but is it not government
resources that he used to go on the trip? We
did not vote him in to watch football; we voted
him because we want him to work and bring
back the lost glory of the state. Watching
matches is not governance, it is absolute
recklessness.”
Another resident, Gambo Mohammed, said the
governor needs to focus on governance.
“Sports development is not what Niger State
needs now,” he said. “We need jobs for our
unemployed youths, boost for our economy and
agriculture, and good roads.”

Religion / Jesus Christ Was A Black Man, Reveals Newly Discovered Manuscript by Blacksodje(m): 2:22pm On Sep 21, 2015
A team of archeologists from the University of Tel Aviv have uncovered a collection of ancient scrolls in the West Bank region, near the Qumran Caves, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were originally uncovered in 1947, and which promise to shed a new light on the life and physical appearance of Jesus Christ. The newly found documents which are believed to have been written by a small Jewish sectarian group, called the Essenes, retraces different elements of the Old Testament and New Testament similar to the Dead Sea Scrolls, but scholars have turned their attention to a peculiar fragment which describes the birth of the Christ figure in a new light. Politics / BREAKING News:how Mama HID Awolowo Died — Daughter by Blacksodje(m): 10:03pm On Sep 19, 2015
Fact has emerged on how the matriarch of
the Awolowo dynasty , Mama Hannah Idowu
Dideolu Awolowo died Saturday afternoon .
The Yeye Oba of the Source ( Ile Ife ) died
this afternoon at exactly 3: 15pm at her
residence in Ikenne in Ikenne Local
Government Area of Ogun State , western
Nigeria .
According to her first daughter , Mrs Omotola
Oyediran, the woman died peacefully and
joyously in the presence of virtually all her
children and grand children .
Mama, as HID was fondly called by many
during her lifetime was reported to have
taken pounded cocoyam with her children and
grand children at their meeting shortly
before she breathed her last .
“ We were in a meeting at Efunyela hall where
arrangement on her centenary birthday was
being planned. She came to meet us there and
played a lot with us . She prayed a lot for all
us one after the other and she even ate
pounded cocoyam with us.
“ Immediately after she finished eating , she
told us that she wanted to go in and rest a
bit , not knowing that she will be going to rest
till eternity,” she revealed .
Meanwhile , Governor Ibikunle Amosun has
described the late matriarch as a role model
of distinction .
Her transition came at a time preparations
were in top gear by the family and the state
government for a befitting centenary
celebration.
In a statement issued and signed this evening
by the Secretary to the State Government ,
SSG , Barr . Taiwo Adeoluwa, the governor
described her death as a great loss.
He however said Mama’ s exit deserved
celebration because her life and times were
noble and golden , adding that “ this was an
exemplary life that truly ran its full course .
“ Mama HID stood by her husband like the
Rock of Gibraltar throughout the tough
political career of the foremost nationalist
and leader of the Action Group and Unity
Party of Nigeria . She was indeed a ‘ jewel of
inestimable value’ as was fondly described by
Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
“ Nigeria has lost a role model of distinction ,
a highly disciplined and principled woman, a
trustworthy ally and dependable politician
who equally made her mark in the business
world .”
The governor recalled that following the
formation of the United Progressive Grand
Alliance ( UPGA ) in 1964 between the Action
Group (AG ) and National Council of Nigerian
Citizens (NCNC) , Mama stood in for Chief
Awolowo who was then in prison in the hope
that she would contest the federal election
and upon victory, step down for her husband
in a by- election in order for the late sage to
realise his political dream.
“ In spite of the political vicissitudes of the
First Republic , Mama HID toured the entire
country with her husband campaigning in the
Second Republic . She was a woman of valour
and a friend indeed ,” Amosun said .
The governor urged the younger generation
of women to follow in the footsteps of Mama
HID .
At her residence, both deputy governor and
the SSG held a closed door meeting with the
family members and the meeting lasted for
about 45 minutes but the details not revealed .
Our correspondent gathered that the meeting
was about how to organise a befitting burial
for the matriarch , which was described as
mother of all .
Speaking with our correspondent , the SSG
informed that the state government will play
an active role in the burial arrangement of
the late sage wife .
He disclosed that he was with Mama on
Thursday after the meeting of the planned
centenary birthday celebration at her
residence.
According to him , “ truly Mama has gone, we
thank God for her life . It is worthy to be
noted that Mama’ s death is a celebration to
all of us. She lived an exemplary and worthy
life .
“ It is a lesson for every woman to learn from
her life , she stood firmly by her husband
through thick and thin . She was mother to the
governor , she loved him so much like her own
biological son and the governor also held her
in high esteem . We are going to celebrate her
a lot.
“ I met with the family member briefly just
now and I have told them that we are going
to play an active role in her burial . When the
family will be meeting over her burial
arrangement , the government will definitely
be part of the arrangement . We will
officially announce the burial arrangement as
we have officially announced her death
now,”Adeoluwa said .
Among the early callers at the Ikenne
residence of Awolowo this evening were Ogun
State Government delegation led by the
Deputy Governor , Chief (Mrs) Yetunde
Onanuga , former governor of Ogun state,
Otunba Gbenga Daniel , Secretary to the
State Government , SSG , Barr . Taiwo
Adeoluwa, Mrs Olufunsho Amosun , wife of the
state governor , and Senator Femi Okurounmu.
Mrs Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo ( née
Adelana ) was born in Ikenne on 25 November,
1915.
Her remains have been deposited at the
Babcock University morgue.

OKOJA—The result of Kogi West
senatorial district election was falsified
by officials of the Independent National
Electoral Commission, INEC, to favour Senator
Dino Melaye, the candidate of All
Progressives Congress, APC, the National
Assembly Election Petition Tribunal heard
yesterday.
Senator of the Kogi West Senatorial
District, Senator Dino Melaye
Mr. Feinti Dada, who was the first witness
called by Senator Smart Adeyemi, the
candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
in the election, said the poll was fraught with
irregularities in 21 units of five wards in
Lokoja Local Government Area of the state.
Dada was the agent of Senator Adeyemi in
the election which INEC declared in favour of
Senator Melaye.
Dada, who was first led in evidence by the
petitioner’s counsel, Chief Lateef Fagbemi,
said under cross examination by the
respondent’s counsel, Francis Ani, that the
result of the recount ordered by the tribunal
showed that INEC recorded voided votes
during the election in favour of Melaye.
Dada further told the tribunal that the APC
never held a primary election before Melaye
emerged as the candidate of the party,
adding that some members of the APC went
to court to challenge the emergence of
Melaye as there was no primary.
He added that documentary evidence from
INEC backed the claim that Melaye did not go
through primary.
However, when counsel to INEC, Salako Adeolu,
rose to cross examine the witness, Adeyemi’s
counsel, Fagbemi, SAN, objected, arguing that
since the commission withdrew its response to
the petition, it should not cross examine Dada.
Fagbemi, who noted that INEC was given the
opportunity to defend itself but chose to
throw away the opportunity, prayed the
tribunal not to allow the cross examination by
INEC counsel.
But Salako told the court that since spurious
and damaging allegations were levelled
against the commission, he should be allowed
to cross examine the witness, saying the only
option available to the court was to strike out
the petition.
The tribunal in its ruling, however, said as far
as INEC was a party in the case, it had the
right to cross examine the witness but could
not call any witness on its own, since it (INEC)
had withdrawn its response to the petitioner’s
motion

Politics / Buhari Not Taking Credit For Jonathan’s Work – Shehu by Blacksodje(m): 12:46am On Sep 15, 2015
Malam Garba Shehu is the special
assistant to the President on media and
publicity. In this interview with select
journalists, Shehu bares his mind on the
achievements of the President
Muhammadu Buhari-led government and
other issues in the polity. BODE
GBADEBO was there for LEADERSHIP
It has been 100 days since President
Muhammadu Buhari assumed office, what
are some of his achievements so far?
When the President visited the United
States, he did say that he does not believe
in celebrating 100-day in office because
such activities are fraudulent and that he
will not engage in deceit. That is why he
went to his Daura home town. If Nigerians
have anything to say about it, they
should say it and I can assure you that
the President will hear. But there will be
no special activities about that.
Does that mean there is nothing much to
show?
Well, Nigerians will decide whether there
is anything to show or not. Without
attempting to blow our own trumpet, I’ve
just left a town hall meeting in Suleja
organised by the BBC and I took my
notes. The ordinary Nigerians are praising
President Buhari for security in the
country and some of them scored him 90
per cent and above. A tailor there who
used to open shop for two hours in three
days and now, they can open their shop
for up to 20 hours a day and some of
them are saying that sometimes they
have 24 hours uninterrupted power supply.
I think this is an opportunity to clear the
useless claim by the PDP that it is the
work of Jonathan that President Buhari
has come to claim credit for. The records
are there with the Ministry of Power.
They are saying that power has improved
because it is raining season, let me say
that none of the hydro power plants has
added any megawatt. What is going on is
that, like the Americans will say, ‘There is
a new Sheriff in town’. People are taking
their cue from the fact that there is a
no-nonsense President who has taken over
the administration of this country and his
body language sends the message. Nobody
is blowing gas pipelines, the gas is
flowing and there is better management
and everybody is standing up to do the
right thing. Better management also
means better engagement. Whether it is
the host communities or the youth groups
who are undermining things, they are now
witnessing an administration that is
selfless and serving the country for the
sake of the country. This is what is
responsible for the improved power
supply. No hydro station has increased
output. The gas is flowing because people
are sitting up.
At the town hall meeting, somebody said
they drove from Suleja to Yola and back
without any policeman or soldier stopping
them to ask for bribe and the same thing
happened on the way back. There is an
environment that has been generated by
the presence of Buhari in Aso Rock.
Whether anybody like it or not, it has
changed things and we are feeling safer
and when people go to sleep they are
comforted by the fact that there is
somebody who will bolt the door. All these
things about security is happening
because the soldiers themselves believe
that they are being led by a caring
leader. Citizens are feeling that the
pressure of insecurity is going away not
because Boko Haram has been eliminated
completely but because of the work that
has been done. The management that has
been brought to bear on the nation’s
security is reassuring. PDP wants to take
away our attention.
Nigerians are agitated about finding the
Chibok girls and given the improved
security, they still remain in captivity
despite the fact that a lot was said about
them during the campaigns?
To be fair to President Buhari, did he
ever say he will bring back the girls on
the second day of his administration?
What he has always said is that we don’t
even know where the girls are and that we
need to go in there and get the
intelligence and situation of things and
then act. Without meaning to endanger
what is left of those girls, you know that
the Sambisa forest is being degraded
right now.
The bombing is done in a careful manner
to avoid certain locations of interest as
far as Chibok girls are concerned. Please
take note of what I am saying. I am not
saying that the girls are here or there.
But there is better intelligence now. In
fact, Sambissa forest is under observation
24 hours in case somebody decide to move
those girls from point A to point B. If
there is any movement that is suspicious,
we have drones, unmanned aircrafts that
fly around the place at night and during
the day, the men takes over and fly the
aircraft.
In the last few days, you even saw the
Chief of Army Staff leading the troops
and I am aware that in the last few
weeks, very interesting pictures have been
shown to the President on the basis of
which we will say to Nigerians, don’t lose
hope on the Chibok girls. I am not saying
they have been found or that they have
been seen but it is not yet time for
Nigerians to say we have lost them.
At one point security sources felt that
the Cameroonians are screening Boko
Haram members from their midst. Please
when you see these kind of things, don’t
think it is malicious. First, we need to
know, who are these people? I am not
accusing them of being Boko Haram, but I
have been reliably informed that
Cameroon is doing a better job because
Boko Haram have also embedded
themselves in IDP camps for safety and
from the IDP camp they will leave to go
and perpetuate evil. Cameroon is doing a
better job in fishing them out.
A lot of people have argued that the
fight against corruption is selective and
that it only existed on the pages of
newspapers because nobody has been
convicted yet.
In all the years under Jonathan, how many
high profile conviction did you get?
But this is the era of change…
This question would have been okay in
1984 when Buhari came to government in
Army uniform. What they did then was to
look around and send to jail all those
accused of corruption. We all choose
democracy and democracy has due
process. Even if it is your wish that those
accused of corruption should be jailed
tomorrow, President Buhari will not do
that because he has to follow the due
process of law because the Constitution
protects the rights of every Nigerian. If
you have a case against anyone, go to the
police or EFCC or ICPC. Even at that,
they need time to investigate. Maybe
that is why the anti-graft agencies don’t
have a good record of conviction in the
past because they didn’t do a good job.
Immediately they take such cases to
court, the Judge will enter a ‘no case’
submission because of the shoddy nature
of how the case was investigated. Because
there is a political motive for that
investigation, the case will collapse
immediately the hearing begins. This is
going to be different. This crude oil theft
which so much has been said and for which
many countries have promised to help,
when the President went to America, he
did not ask Obama to give him the list of
Nigerians involved or those who stole
money. We are doing our own investigation
after which the government will now say,
thank you for blocking this account for a
while until we are able to prove that the
crude oil that left Nigeria on this day for
one of your harbours did not have
permission and papers to leave the shore
of Nigeria and so was a stolen crude. Such
a government will have to be convinced
that this money is a proceed from stolen
crude from Nigeria and we got promises
from all over the world that they will
return the money. When they return it,
that again takes a process. President
Buhari will go to a judge and say this and
that country has returned this money
because XYZ stole our crude and these
are the proceeds. So, Nigerians will have
to be patient with the President and the
process. The President could be impatient
himself, but he has his hands tied because
the Constitution is very clear about the
protections of rights. You will not be
happy if the President begins to trample
on the rights of fellow citizens. So, let
there be due process for everyone.
Is the government comfortable with what
seems like imbalance appointments being
made by the President?
I know that these appointments do not
constitute five per cent of the
appointments the President is going to
make and they will come in waves. The
President has also made two more
appointments from the South-West. Do
you want northerners to start abusing him
for giving two appointments to people
from the South-West? They are
emotional reactions to things that will
come and go. This country has gone pass
that stage. I am not talking about
competence because in this country, we
have so many competent people all over
the place. But give it to the President, he
has the right to choose those he will work
with or cook his food. Somebody has
cooked for him for 25 years and because
of federal character you want him to
remove him and bring in another person.
These appointments are like a fan which
must blow all sides. These things will come
and Nigerians will feel adequately
represented because it is the requirement
of the Constitution of Nigeria and that is
the position of the President because he
is a fair leader, he is a just leader and
will do right to all manners of people.
Hold him to that.

Politics / Rotimi Ameachi Is Clean And Spotless...apc Tells Buhari by Blacksodje(m): 12:36am On Sep 15, 2015
The Rivers State chapter of
the All Progressives
Congress said on Monday
that the immediate past
governor of the State,
Chibuike Amaechi, was
clean and untainted by
corruption while in office.
The party urged President
Muhammadu Buhari to
disregard efforts by the
state governor, Nyesom
Wike, to tarnish the image
of the former governor.
Mr. Amaechi, who was
governor between 2007 and
2015, is currently under
investigation by a panel set
up by Mr. Wike, who
assumed office last May.
In a statement by its
chairman, Davies Ikanya,
the APC said if there was
any former governor that
was clean and spotless in
Nigeria, it was Mr.
Amaechi.
“Anybody who knows
Amaechi well enough would
readily testify that he is an
honest, sincere but
courageous gentleman, a
first-class patriot who is
ever ready to go the extra
mile to see that Nigeria
becomes a better place for
the present and future
generations,” it said.
The party condemned Mr.
Wike’s alleged desperation
to drag Mr. Amaechi’s
name in the mud, the latest
of which centres around a
sponsored documentary on
the former governor’s being
aired on Africa
Independent Television
(AIT).
It said the documentary was
part of Mr. Wike’s
propaganda war against
Amaechi for which he
(Wike) had “earmarked
billions of naira in the
wicked plot to destroy and
decimate the person and
character of the former
governor.”
The party claimed that other
propaganda tools planned to be
deployed in the war against Amaechi
include sponsored publications such
as advertorials, columns, editorials
and OpEd articles in major
international, national and local print
media; sponsored personality
discussion programmes in the
electronic media and sponsored
special documentaries for television
and radio through independent groups
and organisations.
It added, “This insidious plot by Wike
include commissioning a team made
up of persons within and outside the
state to ‘initiate, formulate and
contrive false damaging reports
bordering on alleged corrupt practices
of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi
and circulate same to individuals and
institutions within Nigeria and abroad
with a view to damaging the
incorruptible character and rising
profile of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi
Amaechi in order to blackmail and put
pressure on President Buhari not to
appoint the former governor into his
government.
‘These cooked reports will be sent to
the US Embassy, UK High Commission,
EU Commission, and several
international organisations such as
Transparency International, amongst
others.
“The forged reports will also be sent
to local and foreign media houses
such as the BBC [Hausa Service],
Dutch Radio, VOA [Hausa Service],
amongst others’ for repeated
publication and airing.”
The APC also dismissed the allegations
against Mr. Amaechi as a replication
of the documentary terrorism Mr.
Wike and the Peoples Democratic
Party deployed against now-President
Muhammadu Buhari during the
campaigns for the 2015 general
elections.
“It is not surprising that the medium
for airing the documentary is the same
AIT that angered decent Nigerians
with documentaries that disparaged
the present President of Nigeria and
his family members in a failed bid to
make Nigerians not to vote for him,” it
said.
“The anti-Amaechi documentary is
simply aimed at driving a wedge
between the President and the former
governor in the hope that President
Buhari would be blackmailed into
leaving Amaechi out of his
government.”
It expressed confidence that “just as
the blackmail against General Buhari
was ignored by Nigerians, who
massively voted for him, so, too, the
President, having himself been a
victim of PDP and AIT’s documentary
terrorism, will also discountenance
the dirt PDP and AIT are trying so
hard to pour on Amaechi and accord
him his right of place in the new
Nigeria he staked everything,
including his life, to achieve.”

Politics / Akwa Ibom Gov.'s Official Driver Impersonates D Nigeria Police, scams Zenith Bank by Blacksodje(m): 9:17am On Sep 14, 2015
SaharaReporters has learned that the
official driver for the Akwa Ibom State
Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has been brazenly
impersonating a Nigerian Police Force officer
by wearing a full police uniform and with the
knowledge of Governor Emmanuel. This highly
criminal and fraudulent act has continued
with impunity for a long time, according to
sources.
Governor Emmanuel's driver Mr. Bassey
Edet Bassey, fraudulently impersonating
Nigerian police offiers
Sources close to the Akwa Ibom State
Governor told SaharaReporters that the
driver, Mr. Bassey Edet Bassey, who hails
from Cross Rivers State had worked with the
Governor since he was a senior management
staff with Zenith Bank Plc. On further
checks, it was learned that his employer,
Zenith Bank, usually detailed Mr. Bassey to
serve the Governor whenever he visited Akwa
Ibom State.
Udom Emmanuel, who had served Zenith Bank
Plc in different capacities at various times,
including as Executive Director and General
Manager, left the bank in 2013 and took an
appointment as the Secretary to the Akwa
Ibom State Government under former
Governor Godswill Akpabio. While leaving the
bank, he took a along with him some other
staff of the bank who had worked closely with
him, including his present official driver,
Bassey Edet Bassey.
A source close to the Governor however told
SaharaReporters that the governor had asked
all those wishing to work with him to resign
from the bank. However, we learnt that unlike
his colleagues who had also left the bank to
work with the Governor, Mr. Bassey refused
to formally resign and continued to receive
salary and other fringe benefits from Zenith
Bank.
Further investigation by SaharaReporters
revealed that all those who left the bank to
work with the Governor had been officially
recruited into the Akwa Ibom State civil
service on the orders of the Governor. Based
on this arrangement, the Governor's driver,
Mr. Bassey, was originally posted to the
Office of the Secretary to the State
Government as a clerical officer. However, he
continued to serve the Governor as a driver
contrary to his official work schedule.
Mr. Bassey Edet Bassey, driver for
Governor Emmanuel in Akwa Ibom State
As if that was not enough, SaharaReporters
learnt from sources that Mr. Bassey, has been
impersonating the Nigerian Police Force by
wearing complete police uniform to work. One
of the sources that spoke with
SaharaReporters expressed dismay over the
matter and wondered why the Governor should
be indulging the criminality of his official
driver.
"We have been wondering why someone who is
not a police man should be dressing as one
simply because he drives the Governor but no
one has been able to raise an eyebrow on the
issue for fear of being victimized by the
Governor. He started by using the rank of a
Corporal but later promoted himself to a
Sergeant.”
"Some days he will put on the Mopol
camouflage and even the blue beret which is
only meant for officers in the Special
Protection Unit, a squad that protects some
VIPs. He has been doing this despite the fact
that his name is on the Civilian Drivers List in
the Government House. But because he is the
Governor's favorite nobody dares to question
him,” according to a source within the Akwa
Ibom State Government House in Uyo told
SaharaReporters.

Health / Baby Survives Vodka-laced Baby Formula by Blacksodje(m): 1:58pm On Sep 11, 2015
A six-week-old girl in Milwaukee (Wisconsin) who was mistakenly given baby formula mixed with two shots of vodka was expected to be released from a hospital. Police Spokesman, Bradley Hetlet, said on Thursday in Milwaukee (Wisconsin), that the baby had a blood alcohol level of 0.294, more than three times the legal limit for an adult driver, after receiving the vodka-tainted formula. He said investigators believe it was a mistake and the girl’s parents will not be charged for the alcohol incident. Hetlet said the girl’s mother told police she filled a container with water to be used for the baby’s bottle, set it on a kitchen counter and left the room. He said the girl’s father entered the kitchen, emptied the container and filled it with vodka, intending to take the water bottle to a friend’s home. Hetlet said when the mother returned to the kitchen, she mixed about two ounces of the liquid with baby formula and fed her baby. “The parents realised the error when the child began acting abnormally. Then the blame game started,’’ he said. Hetlet said several fights ensued between the girl’s 22-year-old father and her mother, family members and police as rescue workers arrived and then rushed the baby to a hospital.

Culture / Olu Of Warri In Coma And Not Dead by Blacksodje(m): 6:47pm On Sep 10, 2015
The Itsekiri Traditional Council’s silence over
the health situation of the Olu of Warri may
after all be explained.
A close palace source told The
Guardian yesterday that the Olu of
Warri is not dead but has actually
been in a coma since Friday.
“The Olu is not dead but in very
serious coma,” the source said.
Also, the Iwere Integrity Group (IIG), a
group of strict adherents of the custom
and tradition of Itsekiri has also given
indications that the Olu is not dead
but unconscious.
The IIG is made up of Princes and
Princesses, sons and daughters of
Chiefs as well as leaders of different
villages and towns across Warri
kingdom; all of who are desirous of
upholding the tradition of a people
who have been organized under one
tongue and crown for over 500 years.
The group in a statement released by
Barrister Robinson Ariyo stated: “As
you may know, Warri Kingdom is well
over 500years old and as such; it is
expected to be of interest to a huge
number of people across the world.
“It is no longer news that the social
and mainstream media are saturated
with the news of the demise of His
Royal Majesty, OgiameAtuwatse II.
“We admit that His Majesty has some
issues with his health. All we need do
is pray for his quick recovery. We
promise to let you know through the
Warri Traditional Council should his
condition improve or deteriorate.
“The IIG is committed to the
promotion of every strand of the
custom and tradition of our people
and will do everything lawful to
protect Itsekiri customary practice and
procedure,” the group said.

Religion / PMB Will Win War Against Corruption – Kumuyi by Blacksodje(m): 6:39pm On Sep 10, 2015
The General Superintendent, Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi has said that the war against corruption is one important war President Muhammadu Buhari must win.

The cleric who stated this after the Lagos City-Wide Crusade organised by the church in conjunction with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), said he is praying for President Muhammadu Buhari to succeed in the war against corruption and other reforms he is undertaking in the country.

He urged Nigerians to support the president rather than complaining , saying the president needed the wisdom of God to pull through in the fight against corruption.

Kumuyi said, “My prayer for the country is that the mighty change, supernatural change that God has done for individuals, He should do for our country and you see, God works in various ways and as we see all the things happening, fighting against corruption and all that, we need the wisdom of God, power of God and the support of God.

“My prayer is that God will assist the government to actually pull through until we get to the end of the tunnel in Jesus name. A change is coming and the change has started already.”

According to him, the encouragement he wants to give everyone is that they should have hope and look unto God to turn things around, pointing out that it may not take place immediately.

“God is going to do wonders in our country and things will turn around for the better,” he assured.

He assured that in spite of the socio-economic uncertainties in the country, there is still hope for Nigerians.

Food / Boko Haram Triggers "Pomo" Scarcity Across Nigeria by Blacksodje(m): 5:20pm On Sep 09, 2015
Truck loaded with hides and skin, ready for export Boko Haram attacks and the blockage of routes leading to neighbouring countries from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, have been identified to be responsible for the acute shortage of cow hides and skin (otherwise known as pomo) for consumption and for industrial use, thereby affecting cross border trade. A major dealer in hides and skin, who buys the goods from Maiduguri and sells in Ibadan and Lagos, Alhaja Mulikat Akande, said hides and skin are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive thereby affecting consumption in homes, restaurants and during ceremonies. Alhaja Mulikat, who said she was in Maiduguri to buy large consignment of cow skin for consumption, lamented that she could not get the quantity she wanted even as she lamented that the commodity was now too expensive. “Alhaji Goni was the one supplying me in Lagos but the supply started ceasing in 2012 due to insurgency. About a year ago he completely stopped supplying me, with the excuse that he was no more seeing the product to buy. I decided to come here and buy, thinking I will see. The small quantity I was able to see turned out to be expensive,” she said. When contacted, chairman of Borno State Association of Hides and Skin Dealers, Alhaji Mustafa Abba Kine, who confirmed the scarcity of the commodity, said supply to Nigeria from Central Africa, Sudan, Chad and Cameroon reduced drastically since all routes leading from Maiduguri to the land frontier have been closed due to Boko Haram occupation of towns and villages along the routes. “We usually get supplies of five to 10 truck- loads of cow skin from those countries I mentioned, daily. But the highest we get now is just a truck-load per week. Even at that, the truck has to pass through Niger Republic and enter Nigeria through Katsina, pass through Kano to come to Maiduguri. The prolonged journey hikes the cost. The supply is far below the market demand,” Kine stated. “The ones I am talking about are the cattle skin we usually sell to people at Ijebu-Ode, Lagos, Ibadan, Calabar and most parts of the south for consumption. We used to get supplies of goats and sheep skins from local government areas in the state. Before the insurgency, we could get as many as 40,000 pieces daily. But now, we hardly get up to 50 pieces in a day,” he explained. “We supply goats and sheep skins to customers in Kano where the ginneries process them for shoes, bags and belts making. Cattle rustling and the fact that people have ran away from most of the local government areas in the state reduced the consumption of meat to near zero point. Politics / Boko Haram Triggers ‘pomo’ Scarcity Across Nigeria by Blacksodje(m): 5:08pm On Sep 09, 2015
Truck loaded with hides and skin, ready for
export
Boko Haram attacks and the blockage of routes leading to neighbouring
countries from Maiduguri, the Borno State
capital, have been identified to be responsible
for the acute shortage of cow hides and skin
(otherwise known as pomo) for consumption and
for industrial use, thereby affecting cross
border trade.
A major dealer in hides and skin, who buys the
goods from Maiduguri and sells in Ibadan and
Lagos, Alhaja Mulikat Akande, said hides and
skin are becoming increasingly scarce and
expensive thereby affecting consumption in
homes, restaurants and during ceremonies.
Alhaja Mulikat, who said she was in Maiduguri
to buy large consignment of cow skin for
consumption, lamented that she could not get
the quantity she wanted even as she lamented
that the commodity was now too expensive.
“Alhaji Goni was the one supplying me in Lagos
but the supply started ceasing in 2012 due to
insurgency. About a year ago he completely
stopped supplying me, with the excuse that he
was no more seeing the product to buy. I
decided to come here and buy, thinking I will
see. The small quantity I was able to see
turned out to be expensive,” she said.
When contacted, chairman of Borno State
Association of Hides and Skin Dealers, Alhaji
Mustafa Abba Kine, who confirmed the
scarcity of the commodity, said supply to
Nigeria from Central Africa, Sudan, Chad and
Cameroon reduced drastically since all routes
leading from Maiduguri to the land frontier
have been closed due to Boko Haram
occupation of towns and villages along the
routes.
“We usually get supplies of five to 10 truck-
loads of cow skin from those countries I
mentioned, daily. But the highest we get now is
just a truck-load per week. Even at that, the
truck has to pass through Niger Republic and
enter Nigeria through Katsina, pass through
Kano to come to Maiduguri. The prolonged
journey hikes the cost. The supply is far below
the market demand,” Kine stated.
“The ones I am talking about are the cattle
skin we usually sell to people at Ijebu-Ode,
Lagos, Ibadan, Calabar and most parts of the
south for consumption. We used to get supplies
of goats and sheep skins from local
government areas in the state. Before the
insurgency, we could get as many as 40,000
pieces daily. But now, we hardly get up to 50
pieces in a day,” he explained.
“We supply goats and sheep skins to customers
in Kano where the ginneries process them for
shoes, bags and belts making. Cattle rustling
and the fact that people have ran away from
most of the local government areas in the
state reduced the consumption of meat to near
zero point. The markets are no more there,”
the hides and skin dealers chairman said.
