FIFA says it is focusing on “everybody participating” in this summer’s World Cup in the wake of the American military attack on Iran. The U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes on major Iranian cities, including the capital Tehran, on Saturday after weeks of mounting diplomatic tension. Iran has retaliated with its own missile attacks on Israel and U.S. air bases in the Gulf region, including in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain. Iran secured qualification for its fourth successive World Cup in March 2025 and is due to play group-stage matches in June against New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles and Egypt in Seattle. It is scheduled to be based at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Arizona. World Cup officials in Los Angeles told The Athletic they are monitoring developments. Speaking at a meeting of the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in Wales, FIFA general secretary Mattias Grafstrom was asked by reporters about how the escalation in tensions between the U.S. and Iran could affect the World Cup. He said: “I read the news the same way you did this morning. We had a meeting (the AGM) today and it would be premature to comment on that in detail. “But of course we will monitor the developments around all issues around the world. “We had a final draw in Washington where all teams participated and of course our focus is to have a safe World Cup with everybody participating.” The White House World Cup taskforce declined to comment when approached by The Athletic. The White House, U.S. State Department and Iran Football Federation have also been contacted for comment. Iranian nationals are already prohibited from traveling to the United States under U.S. President Donald Trump’s travel ban. The ban, enacted in June 2025, carves out exemptions for “any athlete or member of an athletic team, including coaches, persons performing a necessary support role, and immediate relatives, traveling for the World Cup, Olympics, or other major sporting event.” But last year, multiple Iranian delegates had visas denied ahead of December’s World Cup draw. When asked why, Andrew Giuliani, head of the White House’s World Cup task force, said at the time that “every visa decision is a national security decision”. Speaking to The Athletic after the draw, Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei mostly deferred to FIFA and declined to discuss politics. When asked if he was concerned that members of the team and staff would not be able to get visas for the World Cup, he said — through his translator, an Iranian football federation official — that “everybody, FIFA, is trying. As they promised, they will do their best [so that] all the team, staff and the players [can] be present here for World Cup participation.” The military action has affected sport in the region, although the doubles final of the Dubai Tennis Championships — part of the ATP Tour’s 500 series of events — did go ahead as scheduled. The singles final, scheduled to be played between Daniil Medvedev and Tallon Griekspoor this afternoon, was cancelled after Griekspoor pulled out with an injury he sustained in yesterday’s semi-final. Elsewhere in the region, football matches in Israel and Qatar were postponed as a result of the attacks. The Qatar-based television broadcaster beIN Sports has also been forced to move the filming of its weekly live Premier League coverage to London, according to a post on X by its presenter Richard Keys. Qatar is due to host the Finalissima 2026 between Argentina and Spain, the champions of South America and Europe respectively, on March 27. The match between England’s Lions — the country’s second string cricket team — and Pakistan, which was scheduled to be played in Abu Dhabi, was cancelled. The England and Wles Cricket Board also confirmed that it would delay the departure of their women’s squad to a training camp in Abu Dhabi, which was scheduled to take place next week. An ECB spokesperson was quoted by ESPN as saying: “We will continue to monitor and assess the situation and official advice in relation to the future of these trips” https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7077233/2026/02/28/fifa-world-cup-iran-attack-united-states/

Israel-affiliated social media handles reported on Saturday (Feb 28) that the Jewish nation's strike on Iran has killed Iranian Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i. At the time of writing this, there are no official confirmations of his death. But why was he a target of the Israeli 'preventive strikes' on Iran, which is also being helped by the US? Here is what you should know about him. Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i was recently in the news for awarding death sentences to scores of protesters against the Islamic Republic. He is an influential yet controversial figure in Iran’s judiciary. The cleric-jurist was born in 1956 in Ejieh, near Isfahan. After the 1979 Islamic Revolution that toppled the Shah regime, Mohseni-Eje’i rose through the ranks of Iran’s judicial and intelligence machinery. He held several senior posts, including prosecutor in various courts. He was the intelligence minister, attorney general and First Deputy to the head of the judiciary at various times. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed him as the Chief Justice in 2021, giving him the most powerful position in the country’s legal system. Mohseni-Eje’i advocated harsh measures against dissent Considered by the West as a violator of human rights, he held roles that used the judicial system to suppress political opponents, dissidents, journalists and activists. Human Rights Watch has cited cases where people were detained, forced to make televised confessions, or prosecuted on politically motivated charges under his watch. Role in brutal suppression of Iranian protests of 2025–26 He was one of the top figures behind the suppression of the 2025–2026 nationwide protests in Iran. Mohseni-Eje’i was the central figure in the regime’s legal response to the unrest caused by economic hardship and broader grievances against the Islamic Republic. The protests escalated into widespread demonstrations across dozens of cities in Iran. Mohseni-Eje’i publicly instructed prosecutors to act with “resolve” and show “no leniency” toward demonstrators. This translated into death sentences for dozens of protesters, whom he labelled as “rioters” or “instigators.” State media showed him stressing the need for rapid judicial action, stating that if the state wants to act “we have to do that fast” to maintain effect. A trigger-happy judiciary under Mohseni-Ejeu’i made Iran top death sentence nation During his tenure, Iran’s judicial system fast-tracked prosecutions and death sentences, making it one of the top countries in awarding capital punishment. Dozens of protesters and detainees were executed during his term. The so-called Revolutionary Courts and lower courts issued death sentences within days of arrest on charges such as “moharebeh”, meaning waging war against God. Another charge was “corruption on earth,” which carries capital punishment under Iranian law. Many of those executed were young adults, who were reportedly denied access to independent legal counsel, in violation of due process. Many of them were convicted based on confessions obtained under duress, according to critics of the Iranian judiciary. As Mohseni-Eje’i oversaw the frequent awarding of death sentences, global organisations like the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and Amnesty International urged Iran to halt the executions and quash the extreme sentences. They urged fair trial rights, highlighting the risk to teenagers and young adults. The Trump administration also issued multiple warnings to end the death sentences. Under Mohseni-Eje’i, the Iranian judiciary was criticised for functioning as an instrument of political repression. https://www.wionews.com/world/who-is-gholam-hossein-mohseni-ejei-the-death-sentence-happy-iranian-chief-justice-who-israel-claims-to-have-killed-1772270855233/amp Mynd44 Lalasticlala Nlfpmod

Also, to expose you as a liar, the Moscow Times was historically headquartered in Moscow since its founding in 1992 The only reason they moved to the Netherlands in 2022 was because as an independent media outlet, they don't want to take orders from Putin and his barking dogs FSBoperator: |
Ukraine's population is seven times smaller than Russia's, so naturally they will have a smaller pool of fighting men of the right age to recruit from. The fact that they have held big for nothing Russia to a stalemate for 4 years is nothing short of impressive👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 FSBoperator: |
I get it from Russia, specifically from The Moscow Times online newspaper. They were the source that informed me Putin is now raiding gyms to capture physically fit young men who will go and die for him in Ukraine😂 FSBoperator:

You're 100% right. That's why the ayatollah had to hide like a rodent in a hole while the Israelis were busy liquidating Iranian generals like there was no tomorrow😂 FSBoperator:

Russia can't defeat Ukraine, but it can withstand the might of the United States? Lol😂 Russia will collapse if it has to fight a war on 2 fronts. They have already suffered almost half a million casualties against Ukraine alone which is why they're scamming Africans into fighting for them, but you believe they are in a position to take on the United States and NATO? this one is high on lamba and fake news😂 FreeStuffsNG: |

I thought the thread is about insecurity. Isn't there insecurity in Kwara and other parts of Yorubaland that are under the siege of bandits? helinues: |
I think he makes a valid point. The insecurity in the North and Middle Belt is beginning to make inroads into the SW at a very alarming rate. Why the obsession over IPOB which is largely a spent force and was never a destabilising factor in the SW? helinues: |

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a “high-profile commander” of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) linked to the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo state. The suspect, identified as Sani Yusuf, is the sixth person to be arrested in connection with the attack, which left over 40 worshippers dead and several others injured. The DSS is currently prosecuting five other suspects — Idris Omeiza (25), Al Qasim Idris (20), Jamiu Abdulmalik (26), Abdulhaleem Idris (25), and Momoh Otuho Abubakar (47) — for allegedly masterminding the massacre. NTA quoted a security source as saying that the DSS arrested Yusuf in Iguosa community, along Powerline, in Ovia north-east LGA of Edo state. “According to the source, Yusuf, a high-profile commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), had after the Owo church attack, temporarily slipped into Kano before deciding to relocate to the sleepy community in Edo State,” the report reads. “The source further disclosed that Yusuf has since confessed to being involved in the planning and execution of the Owo church massacre. “He confessed to other terrorist attacks by ISWAP, including the July 2022 Suleja military barracks attack, and kidnappings in Kaduna State and environs.” Yusuf reportedly shared that he served under other top ISWAP commanders, including Abu Ikirimah, who was arrested by the DSS in 2024. TheCable earlier reported that a DSS operative informed the federal high court in Abuja how digital forensic tools were deployed to track and arrest suspects linked to the attack. https://www.thecable.ng/dss-arrests-sixth-suspect-linked-to-owo-church-attack/ Mynd44 Lalasticlala Nlfpmod |

My post is based on the classic fiqh or Shariah law on divorce, not the modernised version of divorce which the Ottomans borrowed from the French and other secular societies. Many prominent Islamic scholars uphold the idea that divorce is something meant only for the husband to use against his wives: 1. Ibn Qudāmah (Hanbali) In al-Mughnī: “Divorce (ṭalāq) is in the hand of the husband; it does not belong to the woman.” Hanbali law consistently held that ṭalāq is the husband’s exclusive right unless he delegates it. 2. Ibn Rushd (Maliki) In Bidāyat al-Mujtahid: "They agreed that divorce is in the hand of the husband and not in the hand of the wife.” He presents this as a point of juristic consensus (ijmāʿ) regarding ṭalāq authority. 3. Al-Kāsānī (Hanafi) In Badā’iʿ al-Ṣanā’iʿ: “The one who possesses the divorce is the husband.” The Hanafi school explicitly denied that a woman may independently issue ṭalāq unless authority was delegated to her. 4. Al-Nawawī (Shafi‘i) In Rawḍat al-Ṭālibīn: “Divorce is the right of the husband.” The Shafi‘i position also holds that ṭalāq originates with the husband. WhizdomXX: |
Typical Life in the North under shariah law where divorce is the exclusive right of the man and he doesn't even need to go to court to get a divorce. All he has to do is say: "I divorce you" to his wife 3 times in the presence of 2 adult male witnesses and the marriage automatically comes to an end. This is known as "Triple Talaq." Under Islamic law, the husband can divorce his wife for any reason or for no reason and at any time he feels like doing so. Meanwhile a Muslim wife can only divorce her husband under one condition and one condition only. This condition is, if he leaves Islam. She cannot divorce him because he's unfaithful to her and she cannot divorce him on the grounds of domestic violence because the koran allows husbands to "discipline" their wives |

Charles Taze Russell warned his followers that they would not be able to understand the Bible unless they read it under the guidance of his explanatory books. He had about 6 volumes of these books and he titled them: "Studies in the Scripture" He said anyone who read his explanatory books would be in the light at the end of 2 years, even if they had not read a single page of the Bible, but those who read the Bible without his explanatory books would go into darkness within 2 years. He actually said this in The Watch Tower Magazine (September 15, 1910). Here is the full quote: Furthermore, not only do we find that people cannot see the Divine Plan in studying the Bible by itself, but we see also that if anyone lays the Studies in the Scriptures aside, even after he has used them, after he has become familiar with them, after he has read them for ten years — if he then lays them aside and ignores them and goes to the Bible alone… within two years he goes into darkness. On the other hand, if he had merely read the Studies in the Scriptures with their references, and had not read a page of the Bible as such, he would be in the light at the end of the two years.” — The Watch Tower, Sept. 15, 1910, p. 298 Janosky: |
Sorry oga, but Revelation 3:14 doesn't say what you think it does. Revelation 3:14 says:"....these things saith the Amen.." In other words, the name of the Speaker in Revelation 3:14 is, "The Amen" Guess who else is called "Amen" in the Bible? Isaiah 65:16 tells us the answer: “…shall bless himself in the God of Amen…” Biblically speaking, God is the "Amen" So Revelation 3:14 is saying that Jesus is the One who begins creation, not that He was created in the beginning.
