We all thought it was a movie or photoshoot (due to the presence of the photographer) when this man went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend! At that moment, the whole traffic stopped. That was when we knew it’s real life. Even the policewoman directing traffic had no choice but to watch in amazement. It happened at Agnes junction close to St. Dominic Catholic church/Our Lady’s secondary school.

It was later gathered that the guy had spoken to the traffic warden about his intention before he went ahead so the warden helped him steer away traffic for the minutes it’d take him to do his "stunt". If not, with the kind of crazy driving in Lagos ehn, one vehicle would just com’an hit them without caring that it’s love they are doing…

Omawumi walked out of an interview after the interviewer asked her questions she found inappropriate.

Apparently, Omawumi’s grouse is that the interviewer, Zinnia, shouldn’t be focusing on “rumour” questions. According to Omawumi, Zinnia asking her such questions is malicious and geared towards making her look bad to the viewing public who are her potential customers (to buy her album). Thus, Zinnia doesn’t mean her well.

One thing Omawumi failed to understand is that interviews are primarily a medium for the
interviewee - especially when he/she is a public figure - to right any wrongful information (rumours inclusive) about themselves out there. So, a good interviewer would ask these questions. The reason interviews are set up is for the audience/public to get first-hand information, i.e. hear from the horse’s mouth. Therefore, the interviewer has the obligation both to you (the interviewee) and the audience as he/she is the medium, the arbiter, of credible information. Renowned journalists aren’t afraid to ask those hard hitting questions no matter whose ox is gored. Check out world renowned journalists who have created a niche for themselves as top interviewers whether it is in political interview – Christiane Amanpour, Wolf Blitzer, and David Letterman – or celebrity and lifestyle – Oprah, Wendy Williams, Ellen Degeneres, and Jimmy Fallon. They do not ask what the interviewee, no matter how high and mighty he/she is; comfortable questions, but ask what needs to be known about that person.

You as a celebrity agreed to the interview. Therefore, it is a given that you want to set the record straight and give first hand information you want out there. The interview is a rare opportunity for you to control the narrative about your person and your brand; to make you less vague to your fans and the public. So, you wanting the interviewer to soft pedal and ask only questions you are comfortable with, defeats the aim of the interview. It becomes superficial, a mockery and the interviewer; an a** kisser.

This is not to say that all interviewers are professional journalists. In fact, most of the entertainment OAPs here in Nigeria are not trained journalists. But, I digress. A professional should know how to tactically position and word questions. For failing to do these, I would begrudge Zinnia. Then again, I don’t know if there was an agreement before the interview. Seeing as it’s been reported that Zinnia is someone Omawumi had known for a long time (perhaps why she agreed to the interview), therefore she shouldn’t be asking her questions based on “rumours”. Excuse me Ma, the interview wasn’t for the benefit of Zinnia. It isn’t your normal parlour gist. This is a TV interview for the public and these are rumours you should be eager to clear. “Have you ever seen me smoking” isn’t an answer. Of course Zinna might never have seen you smoke but the question wasn’t for her doubts. It’s for the public who might or might not have believed the rumours. Therefore, a more suitable answer would be to debunk it completely, and not to get all defensive; indirectly making the interviewer feel bad and then storm out. This would only reinforce the rumours. I’d expected Omawumi to reply diplomatically while pointing out her objection to such questions; even buttressing it with the premise that why are female celebrities being placed on a different pedestal than male celebs? Are people bashing male celebs that smoke weed and even brag about it? Is anyone calling out Wizkid or Tuface for having babies upandan? There are a lot of other ways Omawumi could have handled this. Ways that would have scored her more points and emphasise the need for gender equality instead of putting on righteous indignation. She didn’t need to ridicule the interviewer so vehemently; saying “you don’t mean me well” over and over again. Zinnia was only asking to properly inform the public though her word coinage was distasteful and judgemental.

Maybe there was a pre-agreement and Omawumi had requested to be asked only questions pertaining to her forthcoming album. If this was the case and Zina deflected, then Zina is wrong. This is purely a breach of trust. She could have handled it with tact by asking less of the “Did you date Dr. Frabz?”, “Who’s the real father of your child”, “how do you balance your drinking and smoking habits with motherhood” questions. But more “What’s the message to the album”, “How has it been so far taking out time from music to focus on marriage and child”, “What’s the nature of the album” etc. Even if it there wasn’t a pre-agreement and Omawumi felt Zinnia was not asking album-oriented...

Popular media personality, Tolu "Toolz" Oniru started a skin treatment programme recently and she has been documenting her progress on her instagram account. The process she is undergoing, according to her, is known as "Hyperpigmentation Correction Programme." But, instagram users are having none of it.

ust yesterday, she put up this before and after picture of her face and went on to write another justification caption on the Hyperpigmentation programme. She went on to stoke the "you're bleaching'' fire by explaining that the "after" picture appears fairer cos of more sunlight...like seriously babe, wyd? Seriously?!

Her constant explanation is just making her seem desperate. Like, if she's sure that she's not guilty of what she's being accused of, then she owes no one any explanation. Even if she is, it is her face not theirs.

We really have to be careful especially with sealed products like this even when they are made by reputable/ big manufacturing companies! Who would have thought this carton of 5 Alive, manufactured by the Nigerian Bottling Company (Coca Cola Company), with expiry date of December 2016 written on it would have such harmful debris inside?

I wonder what the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), NAFDAC and other Quality Assurance agencies are doing to put this under control and sanction the concerned companies. The lives of Nigerians should not be played with like this. Imagine if the person didn't first pour it in a glass before drinking? Now, imagine the number of other people who have consumed theirs like that plus the germs...Too many avoidable deaths in this country!

Arsenal FC's manager, Arsene Wenger has come out to make another rash statement that would totally extinguish any remaining support Arsenal fans have for him.

The under fire coach who has been at the helms of affairs at Arsenal for twenty years now and hasn't won the league title for 12 years have said in a recent interview that Arsenal fans are to blame for the club's failures.

Wenger says the reason Arsenal has been failing could be attributed to fans' creating a toxic atmosphere at their games by withdrawing support for the team during the game.


He also called on protesting supporters to respect Arsenal's "values". He went on to boast that he had turned down offers from top clubs such as Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid. He also said his commitment to the club was what made the bank loan to build the Emirates stadium possible.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has issued out a deadly warning to the general concerning the latest tactics employed by terrorists to unleash terror on unsuspecting farmers and villagers in the North Eastern part of the country.

The statement signed by the director of defence information, Rabe Abubakar, warns that fleeing Boko Haram terrorists are planting land mines on farmlands to kill rural dwellers across the northeast and also carrying out attacks against villagers on horseback.

“The Defence Headquarters wishes to inform the general public particularly those in the
North East that in their desperation to unleash terror on the people, the fleeing remnant terrorists have laid land mines on stretches of farm land,” Mr. Abubakar, a Brigadier-General, said.

“It is also instructive to alert the public that terrorists now operate with horses to carry out attacks on isolated villages and communities along fringes of our borders in the North East. A recent attack using horses readily comes to mind in this regard.”

The recent allegations of sexual assault levelled against a male teacher, Mr. Olaseni Oshifala, of Queen's College Yaba has finally been formally addressed by the school authorities.

The scandal started when a parent who has now being identified as Mrs. Chinenye Okoye revealed to a blog that her daughter who is a JSS 2 student of the school had complained of the teacher touching her inappropriately when she went to ease herself just before lights out at the hostel. She alleged that Mr. Oshifala, who has been confirmed to be a Biology teacher
at the school, is usually drunk and loiters close to the girls' hostel since his accomodation is near there.

Not wanting the good name of their alma mater to be tarnished, The Queen's College Old Girls Association (QCOGA) convened a meeting with the school authorities on Sunday and it was resolved that the school would be given 48 hours for its investigative panel to look into the allegations and come up with a verdict.

Talented Nollywood Actress and winner of the 2016 AMVCA Best Actress in a drama, Adesua Etomi got the bitter taste of Nigerians on Twitter yesterday after she made a comment on the Mercy Aigbe-Thisday Style Best Dressed List.

A lawyer, Adeyemi Akintoye, is currently receiving treatment from a hospital in the Yaba area of Lagos State after two soldiers allegedly brutalised him for “walking slowly on the road.”

PUNCH Metro learnt that one of the soldiers, identified as Uko Obasi, from the Tailoring Department of the Ordinance Barracks, Yaba, allegedly assaulted Akintoye near Tejuosho Market, Ojuelegba Road, Yaba, and kicked him repeatedly with his boot.

It was learnt that the assault occurred at about 6pm on Thursday, while Akintoye was returning from work, during which the lawyer was dispossessed of a sum of N350,000 he had collected from a client.

It was gathered that at that time, Akintoye, who held a folder containing the money, was walking down the road when the soldiers, who were behind him, ordered him to walk faster.
Akintoye was said to have replied that he was not obstructing their movement as the road was wide enough for everyone to pass. The soldiers were infuriated by the lawyer’s response and allegedly beat him up.

It was gathered that when the lawyer fell and became still, a crowd, which gathered at the scene, held Uko Obasi, while his colleague fled from the scene. Akintoye and Uko Obasi were said to have been taken to the Ordinance Barracks where the army authorities promised to look into the matter and get back to the lawyer.

The matter was later reported at the Sabo Police Division.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, 33-year-old Akintoye said the soldiers wanted to escape from the scene, adding that his wallet and folder containing about N350,000, paid by one of his clients, was stolen during the commotion.

He said, “I was coming from work on Thursday around 6pm. Near the Yaba Market, I heard a voice behind me saying, ‘Walk faster. Do you think this is your sitting room?’ I replied, ‘The space is wide enough for anyone to pass’. I received a slap from behind immediately.

“When I looked back and saw two soldiers, I said, ‘What is my offence?’ I received another slap and they started beating me up.

“They were with daggers. They punched me and kicked me with their boots. People were shouting that I would die.

“In the commotion, my wallet and ATM cards were stolen. My folder containing N350,000 was stolen. It was given to me as part payment by a client. Blood was streaming down my face. When they saw the blood, they wanted to escape.

“But I held on to one of them. People gathered and started taking photographs. The other soldier escaped. I did not know that a senior police officer was around and watching.”

The lawyer added that when he and the soldier were taken to the barracks, the military authorities promised to get back to him.

“It was the police officer who took both of us to the barracks. At the barracks, one of the senior military officers said I was a “bloody civilian” and could be beaten up by soldiers.

“Another officer apologised and took my contact details, saying the military would get back to me. I went to a hospital immediately to get treatment for the injuries I sustained,” Akintoye added.

The spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Division 81, Col. Kingsley Samuel, said the matter would be investigated, saying the army would not condone indiscipline on the part of its officers.

He said, “We are going to investigate the matter. But let the lawyer give a better description of the barracks so we can be sure where the soldiers are attached.”

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions has recommended the trial of an employee of ExxonMobil, Ikenna Onuoha, charged with raping a 14-year-old niece of his tenant.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr. Jamiu Alako, a senior Counsel from the Office of the Public Defender, informed the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Tuesday that the recommendation by the DPP for the trial was ready.

“The case has been transferred to the state High Court, Igbosere ,’’ he added.

The accused was arraigned on January 14 on four counts bordering on forcible and unlawful sexual intercourse.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Ogunbowale, adjourned the case till April 19, 2016, for the court to be presented with documents confirming the transfer of the case from the Magistrates’ Court to the High Court.

She ordered that all pending applications should be filed before the High Court.

Counsel for the accused, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, had urged the court to bar the DPP from making public statements about the case.

Popular OAP Tolu Oniru (a.k.a Toolz) has said that she felt like a stripper with all the money being sprayed on her during her creme-de-la-creme traditional wedding ceremony to Captain Tunde Demuren last weekend.

The friendly OAP revealed this on her show this afternoon during her take-over banter with Olisa & Osi of the morning show on Beat 99.9FM.

Toolz who was full of gratitude and satisfaction for the success of the event which went down
at the prestigious Landmark Events Centre, V.I., talked about how she was being sprayed with different currencies while dancing and jocosely said she felt like a pole dancer in a strip club. When Olisa brought up the CBN ban on money spraying, she brought up the defence that it was dollars not naira...lol

The OAPs also dished on some exclusive deets about the talk-of-the-town wedding with Olisa revealing that he had to get out of his car and trek to the venue due to the heavy traffic caused by guests coming into the venue. He even said that some Royal Majesties also alighted and trekked with him (tho' this might just be Olisa being Olisa).
