Politics / Akpata: UNIBEN Suspends Students’ Union Indefinitely After Clash On Campus by BleedingPen: 8:07am On Apr 30
The management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), in Edo State, has suspended Students’ Union of the institution indefinitely and with immediate effect.

CAMPUS GIST reports that the suspension of the Students’ Union is following the incident that happened at the University’s Senior Staff Club on Friday 12th April, 2024.

Members of the Union were said to have invaded an interactive session by staff of the university with the Edo 2024 governorship candidate of Labour Party, Olumide Akpata and in the process reportedly demanded a halt of the event, over alleged claims that they (Students’ Union) were not informed of the event.

In the process, a senior lecturer and member of the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), was reportedly attacked, injured and eventually landed in the hospital.

But, the Students' Union leadership had denied any wrongful doing, claiming to have responded to a tip-off that students were gathered at the staff club restricted to only registered staff members at an ungodly hour.

Following the incident, management of the university announced the set up of a panel to investigate the incident with a view to unraveling the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

The UNIBEN ASUU had last week threatened to boycott resumption and to embark on indefinite strike, if members of the Students' Union were not sanctioned for reportedly attacking their member, claiming their lives were in danger.

They claimed that the incident was a security threat on campus, while citing a 2021 incident where the current Vice Chancellor, Prof Lilian Salami was forcefully removed from her residence and forced to walk on foot by students protesting against N20,000 late school fee payment charge.

Consequently, in a statement signed by A. A. Bobola, Registrar of the university, Monday night and made available to CAMPUS GIST, he said the Vice Chancellor has approved the suspension of the University’s Students Union after due consideration of the Panel’s report.

The statement partly reads: “The suspension which is indefinite, takes immediate effect, that is, from today, Monday 29th April, 2024.

“Accordingly, all Officers of the Students’ Union are to handover all properties of the Union in their possession to the Dean, Students’ Affairs not later 4.00pm on Tuesday 30 April, 2024.

“In the interim, a Caretaker Committee composed of representatives of Faculties, Schools and Institutes has been approved to coordinate students’ activities during the period of suspension.”

“The above directive of the Vice Chancellor is hereby communicated for the attention of the University Community and compliance of the erstwhile Union Officers as appropriate.”

Reacting to the development in a terse statement made available to CAMPUS GIST midnight Monday, the President of the suspended UNIBEN Students' Union, Comrade Alpha-King Lemuel Osahon, called on the students to remain calm, saying, 'we are on the matter.'

Politics / Edo 2024: PDP BoT member, Charles Idahosa Resigns From the Party by BleedingPen: 6:09pm On Apr 29
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT), representing South-South, Charles Idahosa, has resigned his membership of the party in Edo State and his position as BOT member.

Idahosa, a former Commissioner for Information in Edo State, tendered his resignation, Monday in a personally signed letter addressed to the Ward Chairman, PDP Ward 1, Ehor, Uhunmwode Local Government Area.

He said the decision to resign was after considerable contemplation and reflection on his personal and political journey, noting that it was now time to pursue new paths and opportunities beyond the party’s confines.

The letter reads in part, “Throughout my tenure within the Peoples Democratic Party, I have been privileged to contribute to its vision and mission. However, after careful consideration, I believe it is time for me to pursue new paths and opportunities beyond the party’s confines.

“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the PDP community for their unwavering support and camaraderie during my time of service. I remain committed to upholding the values and principles that have guided my political engagement thus far. I look forward to new avenues of growth and contribution, and I extend my best wishes to the Peoples Democratic Party as it continues its important work.”

Idahosa served as Special Adviser on Political Matters to Adams Oshiomhole as Edo State Governor. They later parted ways in the build-up to Obaseki’s second term election in 2020, over alleged plan by Oshiomhole to deny the governor the APC ticket using his position as National Chairman of the party.

Idahosa later moved with Governor Obaseki from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Years later, Idahosa became very critical of the Governor Obaseki led administration, the same government he helped to enthrone in 2020.Ahead of the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election, Idahosa declared that the next governor must be a “homeboy” who is at home with the people, and not an “imported financial magician”, apparently taking a jibe at Obaseki’s preferred successor, Asue Ighodalo.

Idahosa is among the several PDP chieftains who have since either resigned or dumped the party for the opposition APC ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

Politics / Obaseki Increases Minimum Wage To ₦‎70,000 From ₦‎40,000 In Edo by BleedingPen: 2:20pm On Apr 29
Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has increased the minimum wage for workers in the State from N40,000 to B70,000.

The governor made the announcement, Monday at the commissioning of the newly built ultra-modern Labour House (secretariat complex) for labour unions in the State, in Benin City.

According to him, the new minimum wage regime will come into effect as from May 1, 2024, during this year’s Workers’ Day.

Until now, Edo state has been paying N40,000 as minimum wage, N10,000 more than the National Minimum Wage of N30,000.

This is the second time that Governor Obaseki has increased minimum wage in the state.

The first time was about 2021 when he raised the wage from N30,000 to N40,000.

Politics / Obaseki Names Labour House After Oshiomhole by BleedingPen: 11:19am On Apr 29
Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has named the Labour House after his predecessor and former benefactor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole.

This was on Monday at the formal unveiling and commissioning of the House, in Benin City by the Governor with Oshiomhole as special guest.

The Presidents of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are also among the guests.

Oshiomhole, a former NLC President, fell off with Obaseki, his godson and anointed successor in the Edo 2016 gubernatorial election, during the 2020 re-election polls.

However, both men have been seen lately at public events with the governor repeatedly inviting Oshiomhole to state functions and honoring him.

Some believe that the move is to spite Obaseki’s estranged former deputy, Philip Shaibu, who equally fell out with Oshiomhole, his former godfather, during the Obaseki’s 2020 re-election campaign.

Shaibu was impeached in April this year over irreconcilable differences with Governor Obaseki amid his ambition to succeed his principal (Obaseki) as governor, for alleged perjury and disclosure of government’s secrets.

PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release!

AKPATA: UCC CONDEMNS REPORTED CLASH BETWEEN UNIBEN SUG, SENIOR STAFF ON CAMPUS

•URGES THOROUGH, TRANSPARENT AND IMPARTIAL INVESTIGATION

The University of Benin Comrades' Community (UCC) is issuing this statement to express our concern and disappointment regarding the recent incident that took place at the Senior Staff Club on Friday, 12th of April, 2024. The incident, which occurred during a visit by Barrister Olumide Akpata, the Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the forthcoming Edo state gubernatorial election, reportedly involved Students' Union leaders and staff members and has prompted serious reflection within our Community.

As representatives of the Comrades body of the University of Benin, we strongly condemn any form of violence or confrontation on campus grounds. The safety and well-being of all students, as well as staff, are of utmost importance to us, and we are deeply troubled by the events that transpired during Barrister Akpata's visit.

UCC recognizes the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. We are aware that an Investigation Committee has been set up by the University management. On that note, we call on the Committee to conduct a transparent and impartial inquiry to uncover the immediate and remote causes of the incident and hold those responsible accountable for their actions, either staff or students alike, without any form of partiality or victimization as everyone's rights must be protected at all times.

It is imperative that all members of the University Community, including students, staff, and political actors, adhere to principles of peaceful coexistence, respect, and mutual understanding. We must strive to uphold the values of tolerance and dialogue, even in the face of disagreement, strong provocation or differing opinions.

Moving forward, the UNIBEN Comrades' Community is committed to working collaboratively with the University Management, Students' organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to promote a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and non-violence on campus.
We will actively engage in efforts to foster positive relationships and constructive communication channels among all members of our Community.

As we navigate through these challenging times, we urge all students to remain united and focused on their shared goal of academic excellence and personal growth. Let us not forget the last stanza of the anthem of our great citadel of learning,
"God bless this our noble school
As we bid peace to reign
May we have no cause to mourn
But rejoice in gains achieved
We hope for a place a man will
Bring brain and brawn to build self still."

Politics / Shaibu Warns Nigerian Youths Against Drug, Substance Abuse by BleedingPen: 3:51pm On Dec 12, 2023

...advocates drug-free society

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, has urged Nigerian youths to stay away from drugs and substance abuse, as it is dangerous to their health and growth of the society.

Shaibu gave the charge, Tuesday, in Benin City, when he received members of the Association of Movie Directors of Nigeria, led by its Edo State Chairman, Comrade Osaze Dickson, during an advocacy visit for the endorsement of an upcoming movie, 'The Dangers of Drug Abuse by Nigerian Youths', in collaboration with the Theatre Arts Department, University of Benin, UNIBEN.

Shaibu said the effects of drug abuse on the younger generation was inimical to their development, hence the urgent need for a paradigm shift to address the challenge.

According to him, "Drug abuse has reduced the productivity of young people and is affecting their economic lives. Youths must learn to take their minds off drugs and stand up to say no to peers who may want to lure them into drug and substance abuse".

"We must take this campaign against drug and substance abuse very seriously, in all nooks and cranny across the state and our country and not just the urban areas. I am ready to join in the campaign, including physical walk against drug abuse".

"Let's encourage and sensitize the young ones to shun activities such as drug abuse that can hinder them from actualizing their dreams. Such beautiful dreams can only be actualized with a sound mind and not an abused one".

"To the youths, we need you, the society needs you; drug abuse will only destroy your dreams of becoming who you want to be in future. You have a great future and that future can only be attained and achieved with a sound mind as the abuse of drugs can mess up with the brain of a young person", Shaibu admonished.

The Deputy Governor, however, thanked the Movie Directors and UNIBEN Theatre Arts Department for "reawakening consciousness on the need to shun negative vibes, especially drug abuse with their new movie".

“We thank you for coming up with a movie to sensitise, educate and empower young minds with information that will help them make the right choices. Knowledge, they say, is power. So having the right information about the abuse of drugs and substance and how to stay clear of it cannot be over-emphasized".

“Drug and substance abuse can affect every aspect of a child’s life and have a negative effect on society. So the earlier we nip it in the bud, the better for our youths and society".

Shaibu further warned entertainers against negative peer pressure influence that could lead them to indulge in drug and substance abuse, warning, "you don't need any 'enhancement drug' or substance to get to the peak of your career".

The Deputy Governor subsequently endorsed the movie awareness campaign and reassured that his office is open to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse.

He, however, tasked all stakeholders to continue to evolve strategies at targeting youths and implementing well-thought-out interventions to achieve a drug abuse-free society, adding that the fight against drug abuse is a collective responsibility of all citizens.

SPEECH DELIVERED BY HIS EXCELLENCY, RT. HON. COMR. PHILIP SHAIBU, DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF EDO STATE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS DECLARATION OF INTENTION TO RUN FOR THE OFFICE OF GOVERNOR OF EDO STATE.

27TH NOVEMBER, 2023

My dear citizens of Edo State,

We come from a lineage of greatness!
Our ancestors built the “Old Bini Empire” on bold ideas, breath-taking innovations and matchless diligence.

From the “Great Moat of Benin” to the world-famous “Benin Bronze Works”, our ancestors dominated their times, led the Nigerian dream from the front and created novel frontiers for the future.

When Edo State was created in 1991, our brilliant leaders, fully aware of our ancestral destiny named us “The Heart Beat of The Nation”.
That was not an ordinary slogan. It was a call to destiny…mandate that we must collectively achieve.

As your Deputy Governor in the last seven years, I have had the privilege of working closely with our amiable Governor, His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki, to lay a solid foundation for progress in Edo State.

Under our administration, we have seen remarkable achievements and milestones, but there is still much work to be done.

I am aware of the need by the greater Edo people for a more inclusive government, a government of the Edo people, by the Edo people, and for the Edo people. A government of individuals who have been there and know the pains and wishes of an average Edolite.

A government, together, with the greater Edo people will reignite the Edo Spirit and transform our tomorrow!

Since my foray into politics three decades ago, I have lived among you and you have loved me as your very own son.

I have felt your pains at close quarters, sat with the elders to benefit from their words of wisdom, led the youth in many struggles for their rights, visibility and freedom, learned the intricacies of modern governance and built adequate service capacity.

You all are witnesses to my antecedents in government. When the waters of the Lagdo dam flooded our lands and threatened our means of livelihood, I led the emergency response team that managed the impact and kept it in check and continued to be involved in most humanitarian issues within the state.

When COVID-19 came to threaten our very existence, I put my life on the line in its very early days when protection was not available and worked to restore calm and order at the isolation centres.

Our Sporting treasure, Bendel Insurance, became my responsibility at some point within this administration. Through strategic management and relentless commitment, we have returned Bendel Insurance to the height of glory it belongs.

When kidnappers took some of our citizens from Ubiaja and Igueben Train station, I worked with the rescue team, led the rescue mission from the front and brought back the kidnapped citizens safe and sound.

Under my supervision as the Deputy Governor, our Internally generated revenue has grown impressively; thanks to the introduction of digital and cutting-edge ideas.

Back in the day, you didn’t just call me “Mr Constituency Project” for nothing. In my time as a legislator, I delivered 49 constituency projects at the state level and 13 solid constituency projects within my short stint at the federal level.

I have fought the good fight for you my people, Along the way, suffered humiliations and enjoyed many moments of victory but I am thankful in all things.

I have been pressed but not crushed, persecuted but not abandoned, badly hurt but not destroyed. I resonate with the tireless and irrepressible Spirit of the Edo People. By the grace of God, nothing and no one can stop us. After all, I be original Edo son…100% home boy.

This is why today, I stand before you with great conviction and resolve, as I declare my intention to run for the office of the Governor of Edo State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2024 election and I am confident that with your support, we can take Edo State to even greater heights.

My fellow citizens and party faithful, our campaign will be built upon five core pillars, each vital to the transformation and prosperity of our beloved state.

THE FIRST PILLAR OF OUR AGENDA IS INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION.

We will commit ourselves to building modern, sustainable infrastructure that drives economic growth and enhances our quality of life.

By diversifying our economy, and exploring new sectors for growth, we will create more jobs and economic prosperity for all.

EDUCATION, SPORTS, SKILLS DEVELOPMENT, AND JOB CREATION FORMS THE SECOND PILLAR OF OUR AGENDA.

We believe that every child deserves quality education that will equip them with the skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. We will prioritize the revitalization of our educational system, ensuring that no child is left behind.

We will restore the glory of Edo in the sports sector by ensuring that just like the Bendel Insurance, other aspects of sports will be given priority so that our teeming young people will be able to showcase their potentials, and make a living through sports.

In the same vein, we will ensure that our youths are empowered with the necessary skills to compete in the global job market.

THE THIRD PILLAR OF OUR AGENDA IS HEALTHCARE AND SOCIAL WELFARE SYSTEMS.

We recognize that a strong society takes care of its most vulnerable citizens. We will initiate a comprehensive overhaul of our healthcare system, ensuring accessibility, affordability, and quality healthcare for all.

Furthermore, we will implement social welfare programs that support those in need, providing a safety net for our people.

AGRICULTURE, RURAL DEVELOPMENT, AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION CONSTITUTES THE FOURTH PILLAR OF OUR AGENDA.

We pledge our commitment to empower our farmers, promote sustainable practices, and enhance food security for our state. Through agricultural initiatives, we will create opportunities for economic growth and work towards alleviating poverty in our rural communities.

LASTLY, SECURITY, ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY, AND TRANSPARENT GOVERNANCE IS THE FIFTH PILLAR OF OUR AGENDA.

The safety and security of our citizens is of utmost importance. We will strengthen law enforcement and implement community policing strategies to ensure the protection of all our people.

Additionally, we will prioritize environmental sustainability, while conserving our natural resources for future generations. We will govern with transparency and accountability, establishing a culture of trust between the government and the people.

My fellow citizens, comrades and party faithful, these five pillars of our agenda, among others, represent the values and priorities that we hold dear as Edolites. They represent our commitment to building a prosperous, inclusive, and viable future for all.

To our traditional rulers and religious leaders, we acknowledge your place in the development of our state and we would ensure that under our watch, our ancestral heritage is promoted & preserved.

Therefore, it is time for us to rise above partisanship, sentiments and unite under the banner of progress and development. Let us all come together to build a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come.

My dear People of Edo State, this declaration is not just a political affair. It’s a call to destiny; a call to become the heartbeat of this nation, not just in words but indeed.

Therefore, I humbly seek your support, your trust, and your nomination in this upcoming election, as we embark on this journey together; united in our determination to make Edo State a better place for ourselves and generations to come.

I am Philip Shaibu, Your Guy.
Your One Hundred Percent Homeboy!
Together, we will Reignite the Edo Spirit and transform our Tomorrow

Thank you.

God bless the Peoples Democratic Party!
God bless Edo State!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

...Deputy Gov says God remains source of his strength, joy

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, Sunday joined other catholic faithful worldwide to celebrate this year's Feast of Christ the King.

Shaibu joined the commemoration at St Paul's Catholic Church on Airport Road, Benin City, in a holy mass and procession round the City of Benin, led by the Parish Priest, Rev Fr Charles Omojiate.

The Deputy Governor noted that it was a day for catholic faithful all over the world to profess their faith in God by showing Him to the world through the sacrament.

According to him: "we must consistently do the work of God and obey his commandments. Today, we are thankful to God for always being with us and his grace for showcasing him to the world".

"For me, I am showing my God to the world, where I derive my joy and my strength. I thank God for life and his undying love for my life, my family and the world at large".

" Christ died for us on the Cross of Calvary and today, He has come to redeem us. Hallelujah to God for giving us his only begotten son", Shaibu added.

Earlier, the Parish Priest Rev Fr Charles Omojiate, emphasized that the kingship of Christ is limitless, unlike the earthly kingship and administrations.

Prayers, thanksgiving and renditions marked the highpoints of the holy mass and procession, which began from St Paul Catholic Church, through Akenzua Road, Ogbe Quarters and environs, back to Airport Road, all in Benin City.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu may have finally set aside their political differences as the duo reunited at a public event in the state amid the ongoing rift between the two political helmsmen.

This was on Friday at the Holy Family Catholic church, Agenebode, in Etsako East Local Government Area of the state, during the funeral mass for late Mrs Monica Alimikhena, wife of Senator Francis Alimikhena.

In a trending video seen by this Reporter, Governor Obaseki could be seen making his way to the aisle of the hall where his deputy was seated and shook his hand after the presiding priest asked that all should offer each other a sign of peace during the funeral mass.

The sign of peace is a liturgical action that is a spontaneous greeting as a reciprocal token of neighborly love. Following the Lord’s Prayer at Mass, the priest extends a greeting of peace to the congregation adding that all should offer each other such a sign to show that they are at peace.

Meanwhile, it was also observed that Governor Obaseki equally shook the hands of the Deputy Governor’s wife, Mrs. Maryam Shaibu, who was seated just next to her husband in church.

METROWATCH reports that Friday’s event is the first time the governor and his deputy have been seen exchanging pleasantries publicly since their political differences over the latter’s succession plan in the 2024 Edo governorship election.

In July, the Deputy Governor approached a Federal High Court in Abuja with a suit to prevent an alleged impeachment plot by the Governor, the Edo State House of Assembly and the State Chief Judge.

However, Governor Obaseki denied the alleged impeachment plot and accused Shaibu of attempting to overthrow him from office.

After the accusation, the deputy governor was restrained by the governor’s security aides from getting close to Obaseki at a Church service to commemorate Edo 32nd year anniversary.

Subsequently, the office of the deputy governor was relocated to a building outside the government house after Shaibu’s media crew was disbanded by the governor following another incident at a state function where the deputy governor staged a walk out in protest after his media crew were denied access to the hall.

Addressing journalists recently in Benin City, Shaibu begged the governor for forgiveness, adding that he was committed to working with Obaseki for the development of the state.

On Thursday, Governor Obaseki accepted the public apology made by his deputy, Philip Shaibu, noting that as a person of faith, he was under obligation to accept the apology.

In a letter titled, “Re: Public Apology By The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu,” the governor said in good faith, he trusts that the public apology as expressed by Shaibu is genuine and followed by contrite steps to improve his conflict resolution skills.

This was as the Deputy Governor appealed to both the young and elderly, to continue to pray for the Obaseki administration to end well and finish strong, as the 2024 Edo Governorship Election gathers momentum.

Shaibu stated this in his congratulatory message to Nigerians, particularly Edo people at home and in the diaspora on the auspicious occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd independence anniversary on Sunday.

Nigeria attained independence from Britain, its colonial master on October 1, 1960.

Shaibu said, “It is my utmost delight to congratulate Nigerians, particularly Edo people, both at home and in the diaspora on this auspicious occasion of our nation’s independence celebration anniversary.

“Indeed, it has been 63 eventful years of Nigeria’s freedom from Britain, our colonial masters.

“No doubt, as a nation of diverse people with multiple socio-cultural, traditional beliefs, we have grappled with the challenges of a developing country like ours over the years.

“However, as a great people bound together by destiny, we have learnt to live together as brothers and sisters in our collective quest at fulfilling the dreams of our founding fathers.

“Yes, Nigerians, including our dear Edo people, are presently confronted with the negative effects of high cost of living, hyper-inflation, insecurity and other social vices, l am absolutely confident that we shall overcome these challenging times.

“Let me admonish our people to remain strong, steadfast and resolute in prayers for Nigeria and indeed, Edo State, especially for our leaders at both national and state levels.

“As for us, Edo people, permit me to passionately appeal to both the young and elderly, to continue to pray for the present administration to end well and finish strong.

“As the 2024 Edo Governorship Election gathers momentum as announced by the electoral umpire, INEC, let us bear in mind that we have no other state than our beautiful and glorious Edo.

“Therefore, we must consciously promote peace and order for the sustainable development of our dear Edo State.

“In the last seven years, Edo has witnessed accelerated progress and development, courtesy of our Governor, my elder brother, Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki who is determined to Making Edo Great Again.

“As we celebrate today, may the good Lord perfect all that concerns us as one strong, united and indivisible nation.

“Long live Nigeria, God bless Edo State”, Shaibu added.

Politics / Edo: Obaseki Accepts Shaibu’s Apology, Says To Err Is Human, To Forgive Divine by BleedingPen: 3:13pm On Sep 28, 2023
The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has accepted the public apology made by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, noting that as a person of faith, he was under obligation to accept the apology.

In a letter titled, “Re: Public Apology By The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu,” the governor said in good faith, he trusts that the public apology as expressed by Shaibu is genuine and followed by contrite steps to improve his conflict resolution skills.

The letter reads: “I have noted the public apology made by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu. This apology followed an aberrant behaviour that contradicts what the people of Edo State stand for.

“To name a few, the Deputy Governor needlessly filed unfounded petitions in the Nigerian courts restraining me, the State House of Assembly and Security agencies from a non-existent impeachment process, followed by repeated breaches of protocol; unwarranted and unprovoked attacks in the media on my person and the State Government. The media frenzy as a result of the above and more, provided an impression of crises that has been precarious and distasteful to Edo people in the State and across the world.

“Although these unwarranted provocations caused me severe personal discomfort, as a person of faith, I am under obligation to accept this apology because as they say, “to err is human, to forgive is divine.”

Obaseki further noted, “In good faith, I trust that the public apology as expressed by the Deputy Governor is genuine and followed by contrite steps to improve his conflict resolution skills. I also enjoin the Deputy Governor to guide his proxies to act in accordance with his piety.”

He added, “It is my sincere hope and that of my other colleagues in government and all well-meaning Edo people, that these rhetorics will be put to an end forthwith to enable this administration finish strong and deliver the dividends of democracy to the greatest number of Edo people over this final twelve (12) months.”

Politics / FULL SPEECH: Edo Deputy Gov., Shaibu Begs Gov. Obaseki For Forgiveness by BleedingPen: 7:46am On Sep 22, 2023
The Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu has asked his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki for forgiveness amid the ongoing political impasse in Edo.

Shaibu made the call on Thursday in Benin while addressing journalists shortly after receiving members of the Catholic Men Organisation of Nigeria (CMON) who were on a courtesy visit to his office.

According to the deputy governor, both him and his principal, the Governor, need to come back together as it was in the past to finish well on the 'project Edo' both leaders started together.

His words: “Like I always tell people, I am a loyal servant, there is nothing that has changed, I took a personal vow to support the Governor, and you can see my Catholic people are here, everything about me if I have a vow with God, there is nothing that will change it.

“And I can only wish that the relationship that we had in the next few days and weeks, I know it will come back.

“I’m missing my governor really and by the grace of God, I know God will touch the governor’s heart and touch all of us and even those that are trying to be in between God will touch them to know that I mean well.

“If there is any mistake that I have made as human, is just human, is not an act of maybe wickedness, because I’m not wicked. I have a very clean heart.

“I will use this medium to appeal to Mr. Governor, if there is anything that I don’t know that I have done, please forgive me, so that we can develop our state together.

”We have just less than how many months, just one year to go. We’ve been the envy of the entire country, it is still possible.

“So Mr Governor, please if there is anything that you think I have done, I am sorry. I need us to work together to finish well and strong because that is my prayer for you.”

On the relocation of his office from the Government House, the Deputy Governor noted that though he has resumed at his new office outside government house as directed by the Governor, the new office is still undergoing some level of renovation.
