Travel / Re: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by Bless247: 2:14pm On Dec 30, 2015
Hi, it seems you might've missed my question:

Bless247:
I visited my fiance once, prior to submitting the initial petition. I hope the consulate doesn't frown upon one visit. I plan on making a second visit to see my fiance next year. Should I plan on visiting before or during the time of the interview? Does it make a difference? Thanks.

Hi - Can you explain what you mean by "reviewed extensively". Also, is there a link to the list of recommended documents you mentioned. Thx.

LagosNIV:

No, the list of required and recommended documents has been reviewed extensively, but the interview - not documents - ultimately determines whether or not a visa is approved.

Bless247:
Hi VO,

Is there an official list of documents that show proof of a bona-fide relationship, that the Dept. of State is looking for? I want to ensure I am gathering sufficient evidence to submit with my petition. Thanks.

This is for the k1 visa, by the way.

Thanks for your quick response. I am aware of the USCIS petition process. I am actually referring to the interview stage at the Lagos Consulate. (assuming the petition is already approved by USCIS). Are VO's required to look at and consider additional evidence presented by the beneficiary during the interview?

LagosNIV:

You have to submit a petition to USCIS. They make the determination. If USCIS approves your petition then we will call you for an interview.

Thank you for your response. I just want to ensure that my fiance's additional evidence provided at the interview WILL be considered. Can you confirm that this is indeed the policy of the Lagos Consulate?

The more information you can provide to prove your relationship, the better. There are obviously going to be questions about why you have only met a person once. The point of the interview will be to provide all of the evidence that you have to the VO.[/quote]

Dear VO,

I am in the process of filing a K1-visa petition and was hoping you could answer the following questions:

1)Is one visit enough? I know USCIS says you need to have met at least ONCE, but since Nigeria is considered a "high-fraud" country, it may have a higher standard.

2) The Dept. of State website doesn't list documents needed to provide proof of bonafide relationship specific to a fiance visa. It only lists those for marriage, child, sibling, and parent. For evidence of ongoing communication, how detailed do call logs/chats need to be. How frequent (every day, once a month, couple a month?) Do you need content of chats or just evidence of contact? I'm concerned that I do not have any letters or emails. Are phone bills that show frequent and lengthy calls using a Nigerian long-distance calling card acceptable? This coupled with screenshots of skype video calling history?

3) Does USCIS send initial petition package to US Consular/NVC for use during interview? If so, will beneficiary be allowed to present additional evidence of ongoing relationship at interview (i.e. call logs and photos that took place after the original petition was submitted). I heard that some CO's make their decisions prior to the interview (solely based on initial petition package) and do not allow the beneficiary to present additional evidence.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
