Gov Dickson makes U-turn, submits peace report to Makarfi.... Bayelsa Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Peace and Reconciliation Committee, Seriake Dickson, has submitted the peace plan he developed to steer the party out of lingering leadership crisis to the embattled Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi. The submission of the document to Makarfi in Abuja on Wednesday came barely a week after the governor had handed over the same peace document to the court-recognised National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sherriff, an act roundly chastised by the party bigwigs and several governors in support of Makarfi. But Dickson last week spurned the criticism over his action, claiming that although he was not a fan of Sherriff, he was bound by the court judgment recognising him as the national chairman of the PDP and urge other party members to rise up to the court verdict in the interest of the party. However, in a shocking move, Dickson approached Makarfi in the company of former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, and handed over the document to the former Kaduna Governor, reiterating the need for peace. Dickson explained that he had recommended in the peace documents that in a bid to ensure lasting peace in the party, a national convention should be held before long and that the election of all officials of the party at state and zonal levels before the botched May 21, Port Harcourt Convention should remain valid. The governor explained that the report of his committee which seeks to return peace and cohesion to the party was not “cast in stone” and was open to review by appropriate organs of the party. The governor, along with other members of the committee, also promised to meet with other key organs of the party to present the template for lasting peace in the PDP. Dickson said, “My committee will also meet with other key organs of the party to present the template. But let me add that this report is not cast in stone”. The submission of the peace report to the factional chairman, comes a day after Dickson had denied media reports allegedly asking Makarfi to step down as the Caretaker chairman of the party. The Governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media Relations, Mr. Francis Agbo, said it was wrong for such a misleading headline to be cast against Dickson, when he was actively exploring ways and means of bringing about a lasting peace between the two factions headed by Makarfi and former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff. Agbo said in a statement made available to Vanguard last night that the governor merely appealed to Makarfi and Sheriff to make sacrifices towards bringing a lasting peace to the party so as to win the next election. He said, “To set the record straight, Governor Seriake Dickson spoke with a select group of journalists last Saturday in Abuja on the PDP crisis but he never asked Makarfi to step down. “In the said interview, the Governor as a peace maker stated his committee’s role in the reconciliation process and argued that for PDP to bounce back, leaders must make sacrifices. “He consequently appealed to PDP leaders including Sheriff and Makarfi to make sacrifices for the revival of the party, stressing that the PDP is more than Sheriff and Makarfi and indeed any individual. “In spite of the blackmail and propaganda scripted to distract Governor Dickson, the Governor and his Committee remain committed to reconciling all interests through dialogue for only a political solution woven around dialogue and sacrifices can engender true reconciliation |
BREAKING...! SDP WINS MICHIKA LG ELECTION, GOVERNOR SWEARS IN APC CANDIDATE WHO CAME SECOND. Reports reaching the National Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party, SDP indicate that the party has won the Michika Local Government Bye Election conducted yesterday in the local government in spite of all forms of manipulations, including voters inducement by the leaders of the ruling APC in the state that characterised the election. It may be recalled that we had earlier today reported that the State Independent Electoral Commission, SIEC officials had abandoned the collation centre with the result sheets falling off their hands as they rushed in to their vehicles and the security operatives shooting sporadically to escape the anger of the people who had insisted that they should make the official announcement of the total result and the return of the duly elected winner (SDP candidate, Mr Vandi Maikkyau) having fully collated the results. Regrettable, instead of returning back to the collation centre to pick the results and do the needful, the Governor was said to have gone ahead this afternoon to swear in the loser APC candidate. This Will be the second time the Governor of Adamawa state, Mr Jibrilla Bindow would be swearing in a loser as against the winner in the state's council election. The first one was that of Lamurde local Government which is still in the tribunal. The following were the "declaration of Election result in Michika by SIEC on 6-03-2017 at 2:00AM at Booster Station Watu-Madzi ward Michika." as announced by the the returning officer. CHAIRMANSHIP RESULT PER WARD. # Jigalambu_ward APC--387____PDP--616____SDP--332 # Michika_1 APC--1922___PDP--166____SDP--1471 # Tumbara_Ngabiri APC--633____PDP--101____SDP--593 # Bazza_Margi APC--340____PDP--743_____SDP--163 # Sina_Kamale APC--2607___PDP--585_____SDP--679 # Garta_Humche APC--1364___PDP--561_____SDP--1302 # Munkava_Ceta APC--257___PDP--225_____SDP--756 # Michika_II APC--609___PDP--194_____SDP--3249 # Bazza_Tsukumo APC--1474___PDP--505____SDP--836 # Madzi APC--457____PDP--368____SDP--1149 # Futu APC--1451___PDP--1231___SDP--1488 # Wambilimi_Tili APC--561____PDP--603____SDP--1051 # Zah APC--1220___PDP--402____SDP--2270 # Vi_Bokka APC--868____PDP--162____SDP--828 # Minkisi_Wuro_Ngiki APC--697____PDP--527____SDP--1375 # Moda_Dlaka APC--2318__PDP--418____SDP--1045 TOTAL!!!!!! APC-#17166_ PDP-#7292_ SDP-#18369. It was at the point of declaring the SDP candidate duly returned elected but which he said was only going to do that at Yoga, the State capital that the music changed and people disagreed and insisted that he must complete the process right there as agreed between the Parties; and the SIEC, as well as the security operatives. In the light of the above, the SDP hereby calls on good Nigerians to join us in our quest for justice and our desire to ensure that the executive lawlessness of the Governor of Adamawa, Mr Jibrilla Bindow does not continue. We thank the great people of Adamawa State, those of Michika local government in particular for their political maturity and principled refusal to be bought over. Alfa Mohammed, National publicity secretary, SDP-Nigeria. |
Breaking News: "The Court of Appeal Yola Division sat this morning and dismissed the appealed filed by Vrati S. Nzonzo challenging the judgement of the Appeal Tribunal for ordering a re-trial of the petition by SDP candidate. The lead counsel to Vrati Nzonzo Barr.Akamode A.J.ESQ. formally announced the withdrawal of their petition. Thus the cost of N400000 was awarded to the SDP candidate .Meanwhile the LGC. Election Petition tribunnal will continue sitting tomorrow. The petition is about the Lamurde LG Chairmanship election held on 30th July 2016. The SDP candidate was declared duly elected by the returning officer and result sheet issued him; but out of share impunity and disregard for democratic process, the State Governor went ahead and swore-in the defeated APC candidate the following day. Hence the petition by SDP. |
