Senator Iyiola Omisore has emerged the flagbearer of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP)n the forthcoming Governorship election in Osun State. Party faithfuls and supporters stormed the streets in major towns of Osogbo, Ile Ife, Iwo among others to express their love for the victor who has become a common household figure in the politics of Osun state. According to the result announced by Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali led committee in the presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and the assigned representatives of all the security agencies in the State ,Omisore polled 123,485 votes to defeat his rivals, Yemisi Oladeji and Kehinde Atanda, who scored 1,802 and 1,637 votes respectively. Meanwhile, the attention of the National secretariat of the Social Democratic Party, SDP has been drawn to a fake news earlier posted in the social media erroneously suggesting that one of the aspirants in the primary election, Kehinde Atanda had emerged the winner of the election. In a statement signed Mr. Alfa Mohammed ,the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of SDP , the said story ,which is the handwork of mischief makers indicates that the election took place at the party secretariat Osogbo and that the said aspirant polled 271 votes to defeat the other two aspirants Yemisi and Senator Omisore ,who were said to have polled 13 and 8 votes respectively. For avoidance of doubts, all the SDP primary elections nation wide are being conducted through direct primary election where all registered members of the party are allowed to choose the party flag bearers. Therefore, the Osun state primary election couldn’t have taken place in the party office. Secondly, the former State Chairman, Chief Ademola who was reported to have conducted the election had lost his seat following his suspension and subsequent election of new Executive committee at a state congress held in Osogbo on 7th July 2018. https://dailynewstimesco./2018/07/19/sdp-gov-primary-wild-jubilation-in-osogboife-as-senator-omisore-wins/

Osun2018: Omisore Wins SDP Primaries 18 July 2018. Osogbo SDP Primaries were successfully conducted in all the 332 Wards of the 30 LGs of Osun State on Wednesday, 18 July 2018. The contest was bewteen three aspirants: Otunba Yemisi Oladeji, Senator Iyiola Omisore and Barrister Kehinde Atanda. After conducting elections by direct Option A4 mode in 332 Wards, the LG Returning Officers started to converge at the Collation Centre in Osogbo at about 5pm of Wednesday evening. The process of the collation under Prof. Rufai Alkali, the Chief Returning Officer for the Primaries was quite smooth and highly professional. SDP party officials from Abuja, Officers of INEC, DSS, Police and Osun State SDP Exco were all in attendance. As at 9.00pm, when the results from 28 out of 30 LGs had come in and were read out, it became obvious that Senator Iyiola Omisore was in a comfortable lead while the other two aspirants, Messrs Oladeji and Atanda trailed behind. Otunba Yemisi Oladeji, one of the aspirants who was also in attendance throughout the collation showed great maturity by conceding defeat at this point. Meanwhile, another aspirant, Barrister Kehinde Atanda stealthily sneaked out of the ongoing SDP process and attempted to declare himself winner without any returns from the Wards and Local Governments or backing by any SDP Party officials or statutory agents. At the conclusion of the collation of votes from all the 332 wards, the Chief Returning Officer, Professor Rufai Alkai declared Senator Iyiola Omisore winner with 123,485 votes, Otunba Yemisi Oladeji second with 1,805 and Bar. Kehinde Atanda third with 1,617 votes. Dr Olu Agunloye Osogbo |
