THE Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Ish’aq Oloyede, has disclosed that the board generated N12 billion in 2017 as income and, after deducting its expenses, had N7.8 billion left which it remitted to government’s coffers

Oloyede, who spoke during an interactive session with journalists in Ilorin yesterday, said the board was able to remit such money to the treasury because it blocked loopholes and checked wastages.
Oloyede said though JAMB is not a money-generating establishment, it is not a money-wasting one.
He said the board had also devised means to check candidates who do multiple registrations by deliberately writing their names wrongly with the intention to claim the result of the one with the highest score and, thereafter, demand correction of the name claiming that the fault is not theirs. Oloyede, who disclosed that 1.7 million candidates sat for the last UTME, said the board expects two million candidates in 2018

Religion / Cross-over Night: Enenche Releases Shocking 2018 Prophecies by Bloggers1: 8:53am On Jan 01, 2018
The Senior Pastor, Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC), Abuja, Dr Paul Enenche, has released 2018 prophecies declaring the New Year as the year of open doors.
Enenche predicted during the Cross Over Night service in Abuja that the year would mark a new beginning for the nation and its people as well as supernatural opening of new opportunities.
He added that 2018 would also be a year that God would release severe judgment upon the wicked and those holding the country to ransom.
According to him, it is a season that God shall do what he wants irrespective of what men want to restore the years of lost that the country has experienced.
“There shall be drastic shift in dimension in all realms in an unpredictable manner,’’ the cleric said.
On his part, Special Apostle Funsho Oshoro, the Chairman, Cherubim and Seraphim Movement, Abuja District Headquarters, said in his message that Nigerians should be upright in all they do.
Oshoro called on Nigerians to transform themselves in the year 2018, adding that the Federal Government will not be able to do it alone.

However, he admonished Nigerians to be politically and spiritually matured in all they do.
According to him, those that are in authority should do it well because if they do it right, automatically the Lord will see them through the year 2018.

“There is a lot of blessings but we must do it right with God; we must know him; we must plan and set a goal for ourselves for that is what we desire from God.
“Forget the past and failure of 2017 so as to be purposeful; get connected to God; walk with wise men that have evidence of prosperity in the sense that they have accomplished a lot.
“The message is not for the church alone. The message is for the whole country,’’ Oshoro said. (NAN)

Politics / Insufficiency Of Today Will Turn Out To The Abundance Of Tomorrow If… – Fayose by Bloggers1: 5:25pm On Dec 31, 2017
Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, has urged Nigerians and particularly the people of his state to hope for an abundant future and not be deterred by the current challenges they are contending with.

In his New Year message to the people in Ado-Ekiti, the governor said, “the insufficiency of today will turn out to the abundance of tomorrow if we all improve on our efforts and dedication.”

According to a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, the governor while thanking the people of the state for the rare opportunity given him to lead them twice, Fayose expressed satisfaction that he did not betray the confidence reposed in him by the people.
He added that the chance afforded him the opportunity to correct some erroneous impression some had about him, and the deliberate mischief peddled against his person towards the twilight of his first term in office. Reeling out his achievements in office, the governor said he had been able to transform the face of the state from a rustic settlement to modern urban centres through the provision of infrastructure, socioeconomic policies, and other measures. ”
During my first term in office, we embarked on the dualization of major roads in Ado-Ekiti. We are however, happy that we have extended the dualization of roads to almost all our local government headquarters.
The icing on the cake is the 1.3 kilometers flyover that links Fajuyi Park to Ojumose axis in Ado-Ekiti.
“Just like we did during our first term, we also embarked on the construction of public buildings to make governance and public service more conducive. We built the Adunni Olayinka House, a new Governor’s Office, new High Court Complex, new Ojaba Market, new Speaker’s Lodge among others. “Our efforts in education and social sector yielded positive results as we improved significantly in public examinations with our state coming first back to back in NECO examinations, ” he said.
Governor Fayose said despite the huge debts left for him to inherit by the Kayode Fayemi administration, he was able to overcome some challenges and achieve results due to the support of the people and the prudent management of available resources. On the jibes being thrown at him by some opposition figures and antagonists, he noted that he was not bothered because he saw it as people expressing their own views which could be utterly wrong. On the need for the state to continue with the current pace of development, Fayose called on the people to support and vote his party, the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate in the coming governorship election. He reiterated his commitment to leave the saddle without owing any worker or leaving any project abandoned. Fayose expressed confidence that posterity would be kind to him, as he said he felt fulfilled marking his last year in office as the governor of Ekiti State

Photo: Nwankpa Chijioke The Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Oil & Gas, Hon. Joseph Ugheoke, in a chat with journalists, said the products are being discharged at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)’s Mega stations as well as stations of major distributors of petroleum products across the state.
He added that the products are to be sold at the official rate of N145 per litre, noting that a team from the state government and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), will go round to enforce this and sanction erring filling stations.

According to him, “We have just received 18 trucks of petroleum products, with a total of 720,993. NNPC Mega stations and oil majors that are receiving these products are mandated to sell the products at N145 per litre.
Anyone found to be selling above the price will be sealed by DPR and Edo State Government. “With the flow of products into the state, it is hoped that in the next one week, we will start getting over the issue of fuel shortage.”
Recall that the state government has over the last few weeks threatened to shut down petrol stations that have been hoarding products after it received about 500,000 litres of petroleum products.
A taskforce composed of officials of the state government and the DPR have been monitoring the discharge of the products to ensure that sly businessmen do not take advantage of residents during the Yuletide.

Politics / We’ll Not Be Satisfied Until Nig Becomes A Food Exporting Country Again – Buhari by Bloggers1: 5:30pm On Dec 29, 2017
President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja said his administration will not rest in continually reviewing and strengthening ongoing reforms in the agricultural sector until Nigeria regains its pride of place as a food exporting country.

He made this known through his SSA on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu via Femi Adesina’s facebook handle.

Receiving the All Progressives Congress (APC) family from Kebbi State in the Presidential Villa, the President said about 90 per cent of some food imports into the country, which usually gulped the country’s foreign exchange reserve, had been sliced, with Nigeria now targeting self-sufficiency in food production.

“We are not doing badly in the agricultural sector and Nigerians, and the world, are beginning to appreciate our efforts. We will not be satisfied; we will work harder until we start exporting food.

“We are happy that rice and beans importation into the country have gone down by 90 per cent, and visibly everyone can see how productive states like Kebbi have turned out to be and states like Lagos, Ogun and Ebonyi are following the example,’’ he said.

He said Kaduna, Katsina and Sokoto states had already reported remarkable turn around in the agricultural sector, with more youths taking interest in entrepreneurship.

The President said he disagreed with the astronomical food import bill presented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from the inception of the administration, pointing out that it was later discovered to be “fraudulent practices’’ by some of the elites to deplete the foreign reserves.

“When I was told that the CBN had no savings after the windfall of selling oil for more than $100 dollars per barrel for many years, and the production was 2.1 billion barrel per day, I did not believe them.

“I did not believe them because majority of Nigerians cannot afford imported food; they rely on what is locally grown. It turned out that 50 per cent of the export bills were fraudulent. That is what the Nigerian elites did.

“Unfortunately, we will not know all that happened because the elites worked in collusion with institutions in developed countries, like insurance firms and other financial outfits, to perpetuate the fraud,’’ he added.

On security, President Buhari said the return of farmers to their farm lands in the North East, with glaring results of high yields, was a testimony to the relative peace that had been achieved.

He assured that more would be done to check the mayhem of suicide attacks.

The President said his administration will put in more effort to reposition the educational and health sectors to compete with other global institutions.

In his remarks, the Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu said the APC family was pleased with the performance of the administration in securing the country, reviving the economy and fighting corruption.

Bagudu and members of the delegation, which include the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami and former PDP stalwarts in Kebbi State, also prayed for the quick recovery of the President’s son, Yusuf.

Crime / Man Kills 6-month-old Daughter Over Fear Wife Will Abandon Him by Bloggers1: 1:17am On Dec 29, 2017
Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly killing his six-month-old baby over suspicion that his wife would abandon him for her former husband

The suspect, Andrew Koku, who admitted to the crime, told detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department that he smashed the baby’s head on the ground out of fear of losing his wife, Omowunmi Teleda.
The incident occurred on Christmas eve in Obada area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. Mother of the child, Teleda, claimed that she left her baby in her husband’s care to visit her older child, who was in her former husband’s custody.

However, on her return she discovered that her baby, Precious, was motionless. Apparently thinking she was sleeping, she reportedly shook her with the intention of breastfeeding her. But there was no response from the baby.
At that point, she said she became suspicious and reported the matter to the Police. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said:
“She explained further that the baby was hale and hearty before she left home. “But within an hour of her outing, the baby had dropped dead. This made her to strongly suspect her husband who happened to be the only person with the baby.
“Upon her complaint, the DPO Adigbe Division, CSP Sunday Oladipo, detailed Police detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested on December 24.
On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime but claimed to be suspecting that his wife wanted to leave him for her ex-husband and that if that should happen, he will not be able to take care of the baby; that was the reason why he decided to eliminate the child.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the case be transferred to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, CIID, for proper investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
