PoliticsNiger Govt Invests Over N3 Billion On AEDC Properties In Last 6 Years by Blogsphere(op): 6:24pm On Apr 20, 2022
Niger state government has invested over N3 billion for the provision of transformers, service lines and others in AEDC infrastructures to ensure the provision of power to various communities in the last six years of the present administration in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government SSG, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Matane disclosed this while briefing newsmen in his office in Minna, saying that it was aimed at encouraging private sector to strive and responsive.

Matane while responding to the disconnection of government facilities in Minna due to owning to the sum of alleged N1.7 billion which was refuted but the SSG who explained that the dept is a little over N1 billion which include 50% inherited.

He stated that the state government expended N46 million monthly to pay Chanchaga Water Works for power supply by AEDC as electricity bills hence the need for the use of consultant to verify the claimed billings by the company.

The SSG further revealed that the government has sustained its payment of the current bills and up setting the outstanding while he lamented that the company is still billing some old and non existing structures to the detriment of the state.

He assured that the facilities would be reconnected before Friday this week especially the water works at the end of the ongoing negotiation, adding that there was no crisis between the two bodies noted that over N10 billion has been spent on electrification from previous government to date.

PoliticsStop Playing Politics, Olisa Metuh Cautions EFCC by Blogsphere(op):
Stop Playing Politics, Olisa Metuh Cautions EFCC

Olisa Metuh, a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to stop playing politics with his purported arraignment by the anti-graft agency.

Mr Metuh in a statement signed by his Special Assistant, Ebiloma Abdullahi, reminded the EFCC that the Court of Appeal had in December 2020 dismissed Justice Okon Abang's judgement against Chief Metuh on grounds of manifest bias.

The statement further reminded the EFCC that the case is currently at the Supreme Court with an appeal to be discharged and acquitted of the charges on the merits of the case.

The statement reads in part; "Nothing exposes the desperation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a mere political weapon designed to use media trial and judicial harassment against certain individuals than this campaign to intimidate and detract Chief Metuh from active participation in politics.

"For the records, the Court of Appeal has in December 2020 dismissed Justice Okon Abang's judgement against Chief Metuh on grounds of manifest bias.

"Thereafter Chief Metuh’s lawyers appealed to the Supreme Court for a discharge and acquittal on the merits of the case. This they did, notwithstanding that his earlier appeal at the Supreme Court for a no-case submission has still not been heard.

"It is trite law that no prosecution can ever be done while the appeal at this stage at the Supreme Court has not been heard and decided. Why then the drama and the widely publicised media trial of an arraignment? Is any person afraid of Chief Metuh’s famed strategic and tactical political prowess? Who exactly is using the EFCC at this time?

"Whilst we await the 30th of May, 2022 to see the manifestation of this attempt to rewrite our Constitution, we advise the EFCC to focus on the monumental corruption going on in this government.

Olisa Metuh urged the EFCC to find out the financial crimes behind the ‘no light’, ‘no fuel’ 'massive oil-bunkering' and the dissemination of the value of our beloved naira.

"They should leave political persecution and face the serious work of fight against financial crimes," he added.

PoliticsValue Added Leadership: How A’ibom Can Work For Us All by Blogsphere(op): 9:58am On Apr 11, 2022
VALUE ADDED LEADERSHIP: HOW A’IBOM CAN WORK FOR US ALL

By Ukpong Ukpong

Akwa Ibom state could be turned it into 'Dubai' in eight years, if we can rethink our development strategy and focus more on building our coastal areas. All we need is a strong political will to leverage on approvals recently given by federal government to build the Ibom deep seaport and adjoining areas which are huge economic drivers everywhere in the world.

I think the Ibom Deep seaport project should set an agenda for any incoming administration, but beside that, the state should promote peripheral projects like real estate, commercial and recreational fishing and other maritime industries within these areas, which at the moment, are underutilized and ravished by smuggling, foreign illegal fishing, piracy and other criminal activities.

Everyone knows that our State is a major producer of crude oil and natural gas providing existential value to the country. Many know that the State has the longest coastline in Nigeria and sits pretty close to the Atlantic Ocean. Yet, only a few understand that apart from producing oil and gas, Akwa Ibom State holds the key to immeasurable wealth which is by far more sustainable than petroleum.

The State’s maritime industry if developed is estimated to rake in $400billion annually, double that of Lekki Deep seaport floated by Lagos State Government. It will complement already existing seaports including Lagos and Rivers and enhance development of Nigeria’s maritime industry. Government sources say that once it comes on board, it will affect every sector of our economy and provide about 300, 000 jobs.

If this is so, then every electorate in Akwa Ibom State should support that man or woman who can make this happen. Of course, much of our problems revolve round socioeconomic issues. Who wouldn't want an economically viable and financially self-sustaining state? Like I said earlier, this protracted project should be the rallying point of every well-meaning Akwa Ibomite. It should influence our decision on who governs us, going forward.

Why do I think so? I believe we have made remarkable progress in developing our hinterlands. We have great access by land and air, but our coastline is an eyesore. There is still much to be done inland but methinks any governor who sincerely wants Akwa Ibom to be economically viable and financially self-sustaining should tackle developing our coastal areas and promote a thriving maritime Industry.

I’ll expatiate on this further. China is rapidly overthrowing the United States as the global economic power because of its trade volume most of which are facilitated at the ports. The Chinese government understands the importance of ports to its economy and invested heavily on establishing ports in every economic district.

China alone has 17 out of 40 world class ports. In global ranking, 9 of China’s ports are within the best 10 namely Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan, Shenzhen, Guangzhou Harbor, Qingdao, Hong Kong and Tianjin. Imagine Akwa Ibom state with an established world-class port.

We are very close to actualizing this vision, all we need is the political will and experience. We need someone who understands the rigorous processes involved in building this multifaceted industry. The person must have been there every step of the way, gathering experience and contacts both within Nigeria and across the world for this project.

Without mincing words, the man for the job is Mr. Akan Okon, the immediate past Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport.

He recently resigned as Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom deep seaport to contest for the governorship of the State. Some of the ministries where he served as commissioner include, Finance, Economic Development, Housing and Urban Renewal, Special Duties, Aviation Development, Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport.

Speaking on Monday 28th March in his hometown, Mbiatok Itam, Itu local government area during the official commencement of his consultations, Mr. Okon said having gandered first hand experience in public service he is set to hit the ground running.

He pegged his development strategy on the three gateways into the state – sea, air and land – to ensure even development and job creation.

“At 34 years, Akwa Ibom State cannot afford to be an experimental field where people come to learn leadership in public service. We need someone who has been around and understudied the various sectors of the State’s economy, and also understands the challenges that our people are facing so that from day one, he will hit the ground running in embarking on those policies and programmes that will lead to an improvement in the standard of living of our people.”

“I have served in six ministries and in each of those ministries God helped me to deliver on all the projects assigned to me. Through my experience in public service, which God made it possible through His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel, I know the challenges facing this state and I will provide the best solutions to them.”

We have seen his diligence, serving two administrations. I think, just as Obong Victor Attah wasn't wrong when he brought young Barrister Godswill Akpabio into his government, Mr. Udom Emmanuel's insistence that Mr. Akan Okon join him in Akpabio's administration and later retained Okon in his administration was for this purpose.

Standing at this threshold of our history, we've been presented with an easy choice to actualize our collective vision. We've seen that the developing our coastal areas especially the Ibom Deep seaport holds much promise for our next level economic growth therefore we should make this right choice now.

PoliticsOSRA Raises Alarm Over Plot To Disrupt Osun Peace by Blogsphere(op): 8:52pm On Apr 10, 2022
OSRA raises alarm over plot to disrupt Osun peace

A socio-political group, OSRA, has condemned the extra-judicial killing of Afolabi Abiola by alleged security agents, saying such threatens peace and Arabirin Osun state.

Recall that online media reports have hinged the cruel murder of Afolabi Abiola on extra-judicial killings while some blamed it on politicians desperate to clinch power in the state.

In a joint statement baby Lanre Akeju and Saheed Bakare, OSRA warned politicians to desist from acts capable of undermining the peace enjoyed by the people of Osun state.

OSRA commends the Osun state government for being proactive and showing interest in the case.

“We at Osun Shall Rise Again, OSRA, a socio-political group, are committed to the peace, growth and development of Osun. We shall therefore be willing to stake all that we have to defend our State and its people.

“We condemned in total the alleged extra-judicial killing of a promising young man, Afolabi Abiola by some policemen of the Osun State Command.

“While commending the Osun State Government for its proactive steps in taking the decision to show interest in the matter and appealed for calm, we make bold to say it must resist any attempt by some discredited politicians and a few mischief-makers that want to profit from the sad incident, from hijacking the situation.

“Already, we have reliably gathered that elements of the Revolution Now who take delight in destroying public properties and infrastructure under the cover of protest are planning a political protest under the guise of press for justice for the late the Afolabi Abiola.

“We decided to raise this alarm to intimate security operatives and the Government on the plot by these crisis merchants masquerading as rights activists.

“While we condemn the death of our brother, Afolabi Abiola, we appeal to Osun youths to exercise patience and wait for the outcome of the investigations being carried out on the matter. They must not lend themselves as willing tools to elements of Revolution Now in Osun and beyond, who are bent on causing mayhem in our dear State.

“We are therefore calling on heads of security agencies in Osun to take proactive measures to avert mayhem in Osun. Although the protest is being originally planned for Monday, in Osogbo, security operatives must however be on the lookout for Ilesa, Ede and Ile-Ife as these mischief-makers may shift to any of these places to stage a protest that could cause the breakdown of law and order.

“We do not need any protest now, especially one coordinated by elements of Revolution Now. We shall be willing to support any legitimate agitation by Osun youths, but such agitation must not have political colouration or be driven by criminal elements and elements within the Revolution Now whose motives and objectives are well known to Nigerians. We must not give any individual or group the chance to disrupt the peace we enjoy in Osun.

Ogayemi Goke Joins Race For House of Representatives Ijebu Central Federal Constituency

The youngest aspirant in the race for the Ijebu Central Federal Constituency seat under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party Ogayemi Olamigoke has stated that Youths must position themselves for power.

During his speech at the presentation of Expression of Interest & Nomination forms by a committee of friends, OG insisted that if youths wants better governance then they must be actively involved in electioneering processes and by that it means they must also offer themselves for the elective positions so as to be on the decision-making table.

Youths can’t continue to demand their quota as youth, it’s high time youths became decision-makers themselves and if we must achieve this, then we must be ready to throw our hat in the ring.

The SA to the former Nat. Chairman of PDP Elder Akinwonmi noted that Politics is a game of numbers and the youths are the real numbers. He also enjoined youths to take advantage of the PDP e-registration going on and also promote youthful representation.

At the presentation ceremony held at the Ogayemi Goke Campaign Organization Secretariat Ijebu-Ode, Hon Ogayemi expressed profound gratitude to his friends and family both at home and abroad who contributed their resources to purchase the expression of interest and Nomination forms for him.

He reiterated that the gesture of his friends signifies actions backing up his age-long work of advocating for youth participation in partisan politics.

Politics2023 Zoning: The Age Of Reasoning By Chief Olisa Metuh by Blogsphere(op): 12:28pm On Apr 05, 2022
2023 ZONING: THE AGE OF REASONING By Chief Olisa Metuh

It has now become so clear to all discerning members of the PDP that the idea of zoning the Presidential ticket to the South at this late hour is a conjecture and pure strategy of a particular Southsouth aspirant.

Do we succumb to the whims and caprices of a few strong hands only because of their perceived sacrifices and assistance to the party?

The truth is that zoning at this late hour was designed to favour just one man. The plan is that once it comes to the South even the southeast governors will support the southsouth aspirant to emerge.

As we speak the entire 37man team has come under intense pressure to zone.

I still submit that zoning at this late hour will breed rancour, division, resentment and bitterness. The appropriate thing to do if we actually want to achieve fairness, equity as well as merit and competence, is to choose a CONSENSUS CANDIDATE FROM THE SOUTH-EAST.

Therefore let us choose National Consensus over Zoning.

A lot of PDP members erroneously believe that whoever is our presidential candidate will easily win the election. Let the PDP not position itself to snatch loss over victory in the 2023 elections.

I speak because I love my party and have paid monumental sacrifices for my immeasurable loyalty. I kept quiet in 2015 and will no longer keep quiet when I see plans that will only bring electoral failure.

MAY GOD BLESS OUR GREAT PARTY.

PoliticsFreemasons In Government: Rev. Patrick Edet Should Mention Names... by Blogsphere(op): 11:00am On Apr 05, 2022

_Secretariat: Greenspec Chambers, No. 14 Calabar Street, Uyo, Akww Ibom_

FREEMASONS IN GOVERNMENT: REV. PATRICK EDET SHOULD MENTION NAMES, OR QUIT THE PULPIT FOR POLITICAL SOAPBOX

We have watched the viral video extract of former Catholic Priest, now pastor of Grace Family, Uyo, Rev. Patrick Edet, where he alluded that Akwa Ibom State Government is a nest of occult, and that government officials use generousity as a bait to win souls into the occult groups, especially the Freemason. He stressed that even with a Christian Governor calling the name of God, many people have been initiated into Freemason than ever before and nobody is talking about it. It is no longer shooting of gun; it is now shooting of souls

As a group, we are not holding brief for the Akwa Ibom State Government, as we believe that government is imbued with the capacity to defend herself, ditto for the Freemason, who as an organization can defend its ideologies, beliefs and even seek legal redress, when necessary.

To every objective mind, it has not come as a surprise, that the pastor has joined the political fray; yes! it is the political season again and politicians are hiring to hit their perceived enemies and the only way a hireling can show that he is working for his pay is to attack the person and office of the Governor leveling unfounded or contrived and imagined allegations.

Rev. Edet in his sermon stated authoritatively that members of the Governor’s Cabinet use generousity to attract youths to Freemason; this implies that as one of the many beneficiaries of the generousity of the state Governor and his officials, he has also been wooed to join the secret society.

We wonder, when Rev. Edet realized that the government is infested with members of Freemason, when he and his church have over the last few years enjoyed the benevolence of the government, who gave them Ibom Hall for use at no cost.

Was the N50,000,000.00 (fifty million Naira that Governor Udom Emmanuel alongside his EXCO raised for his church building project still meant to attract him to join Freemason? Why didnt he reject the money and bring to the public domain the fact that government was about to woo him to join the Freemasons?

In an era, where the pulpit has been turned into a soapbox, it is important that Rev. Edet with the same authority he used in levelling the allegation, should also name and shame these government officials to set the records straight, it will amount to an act of cowardice if he only stops at making a blanket statement, without mentioning names.

As a Christian and pastor of a church, Rev. Edet needs to tell us the number of repentant Masons he won over to Christ having been in contact with them and knowing their identities in his interaction with the Freemasons government officials.

It is only when he shied away from naming the Masons in government that we would conclude that the devil is more powerful than the God he serves and therefore he should exchange the pulpit for the soapbox; shade the toga of priesthood and wear the cloak of a politician so he can actively participate in politics without needing to hide under the guise of a pastor.

PoliticsNo N198b Diverted In Sokoto - Sokoto Govt by Blogsphere(op): 2:54pm On Apr 02, 2022
No N198b diverted in Sokoto - Sokoto Govt.

Sokoto State Government has denied the alleged diversion of N198bn.

It said reports to that effect on social media were false and malicious.

A statement by Special Adviser Media and Publicity to Governor Aminu Tambuwal urged Nigerians to disregard the report.

It reads: “Our attention has been drawn to reckless and provoking reports by some online new media about alleged diversion of N189 Billion by the Sokoto State Government.

The reports cited a so-called EFCC interim report on Sokoto State. These media reports are false in all material particulars and should be completely disregarded.

“We alert the public that these media reports are products of orchestrated efforts by political hacks to taint the reputation of Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who is a frontline aspirant for 2023 PDP Presidential ticket.

“The Government of Sokoto State has established deserved reputation as the champion of budget transparency, fiscal responsibility, and open governance. We have subscribed to the Open Government Partnership (OGP).

“It is noteworthy that in December 2020, the World Bank rated the Sokoto State as number one state in Nigeria in fiscal transparency as a recognition of Governor Tambuwal’s unflinching commitment to the implementation of the States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability (SFTAS) and for efforts to champion budgetary transparency in Nigeria. For this commitment, Sokoto State has received up to $34.1million as special grant from the World Bank.

“Governor Tambuwal in pursuit of fiscal responsibility and anti-corruption in management of public finance in Sokoto State has created the Sokoto State Bureau of Public Procurement and Private Partnership and Fiscal Responsibility Commission to review and investigate all public expenditure.

“The agencies are independent agencies established by law. To further strengthen vertical and horizontal agencies of accountability in the state, Governor Tambuwal has signed law granting the Offices of Auditor General in the state and local government councils in Sokoto State operational independence to investigate all records of public expenditure in Sokoto State.

“Nigerians know Governor Tambuwal as a champion of due process and fiscal probity, who as the Speaker of the House of Representative received a clean bill of health from all anti-corruption agencies. He has been an inspiration for his commitment to prudent and honest management of public finance.

“He has continued to run an open government in Sokoto State. In line with his high standard of probity and open government, Governor Tambuwal invites any person who cares to look into the records of the state and to request the report of the Sokoto State Bureau of Public Procurement and Private Partnership on all public expenditures in Sokoto State.

We assure Nigerians that we are ready with all relevant documents to challenge any report from the EFCC or any other anti- corruption body on the public finances of Sokoto State. We are confident of Governor Tambuwal’s trail-blazing legacy of fiscal responsibility and open governance.

“We welcome the strictest scrutiny from any Nigerian or group interested in the affairs of Sokoto State. In the meantime, we urge the public to disregard these malicious attacks on Governor Tambuwal and desperate efforts to derail the Tambuwal mission to offer Nigeria an open and transformative governance.”
PoliticsHow Osinbajo Stood Down Amaechi’s Memo To FEC Over 2023 by Blogsphere(op): 10:49pm On Apr 01, 2022
Contrary to some reports that a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of September 24, 2021, turned down a proposal for security equipment for the Abuja-Kaduna rail line, the Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, not the FEC, actually turned down the proposal for reasons not unconnected to personal ambition in 2023.

A September 24, 2021 memo by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, was deliberately leaked some hours ago, to dispute claims by the minister that he warned the particular FEC of the implications of standing down his memo, because the consequences might be grave.

Some of the reports from the leaked memo, had quoted a source, which claimed that, “We had doubts about the capability of a company, which was formed less than two years prior and had no track record of handling a contract of N3.7bn or a contract on surveillance systems. The company was also to be paid upfront. Our investigation pointed to a conflict of interest,”

The report, which quoted a top presidency official, noted that the minister, in his presentation, stated that the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), had reviewed the process of procurement and given a certificate of no objection for the contract, adding that the project would be funded from the N71.4bn budget of the ministry.

“The minister subsequently asked the council to ‘approve the award of contract for the procurement and installation of electronic surveillance system and interrogation unit on the Abuja (Idu)-Kaduna (Rigasa) 200km railway monitoring rail intrusion detection system and emergency response system in favour of Messrs Mogjan Nigeria Limited/Cagewox Dot Net Limited in the sum of N3,780,827,410.66 inclusive of 7.5 per cent VAT with a completion period of four months,” the report stated.

The firm, Mogjan Nigeria Limited, which was incorporated on August 6, 2019, the report claimed, was co-owned by Prince Godwin Momoh, Chioma Momoh and George Momoh, with a turnover of N84.9m, was not to be trusted with a contract worth N3.7 billion.

Unfortunately, the FEC meeting marked EC (2021) 236, and presided over by Osinbajo, at a time President Muhammadu Buhari was away for a United Nations General Assembly meeting, saw the vice-president stand down the memo despite repeated appeals by the minister, over what other cabinet members had come to dismiss as 2023 politics.

Thus, another presidency source, who disagreed with the reports making the rounds from the leaked memo, and cited a top presidency source, insisted that the decision by the vice-president to stand down the memo had baffled everyone at the meeting, because Amaechi’s submission was convincing enough to have secured the approval if Osinbajo had no ulterior motive.

“It’s sad that Amaechi’s warning eventually came to pass. I hate a situation, whereby someone prewarns and it comes to pass. Truly, Amaechi sought approval, after explaining the benefits of the security detection devices. His explanation was convincing and everything was fine until the vice-president asked that one question.

“Ask me what the question was? He asked Amaechi the brand of the devices to be brought. The question was not about the credibility of the company or how much they were worth in terms of turnover, because the fact the BPP had cleared the company had knocked off questions relating to such.

“So, the vice-president had no other place to hide than to ask: what brand? Now, ask yourself, of what relevance is that in the equation? None! The minister had brought many memos including the ones that approved the purchase of coaches and nobody asked for the brand. So, why ask for brand in this instance?

“That, clearly, tells you the vice-president had an ulterior motive and what that was, we all didn’t know. But the easier explanation or getaway is that it was not unconnected to the politics of 2023. Some of our colleagues said he probably considered Amaechi a threat and might have seen that move as a subliminal message. Whatever it was, certainly, it was not in national interest.

“But the sad part and why some cabinet members are angry, is that Osinbajo, who declined approval for the devices that would have saved the day, was the first to visit Kaduna to commiserate with families of the survivors and his foot soldiers have been everywhere lying to the observing publics.

“Therefore, whatever anyone says that is contrary to these explanations, is not true and might have been targeted at the minister, obviously for political reasons. Amaechi meant well with the memo and acted right. But the pastor? Let him deal with his conscience as far as this matter is concerned. We’ve lost eight people, several injured and scores still with their abductors on account of his indiscretion at the September 24, 2021 FEC,” he explained.

The presidency source, however, appealed to everyone to desist from playing politics with the Kaduna train bomb attack and come together in collective interest, saying, “What we should be looking at now is how to further salvage the situation and not apportion blame. The deed has been done, and the way forward should be our concern now.”

Politics2023: Olisa Metuh Writes PDP Committee On Zoning by Blogsphere(op): 4:43pm On Mar 28, 2022
Chief Olisa Metuh, a former national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the 2023 Presidential election zoning committee members of the PDP to allow all members the opportunity to contest without the moral burden of Zoning stressing that it is the only way for equity, fairness, good conscience and natural justice to reign.

Mr Metuh who stated this in an open letter to the committee said nothing should take the PDP back to the "period of arrogance of power especially as we are in opposition."

The former NPS noted that what is desirable may not be achievable and therefore there is a need for the PDP to tread carefully and be sensitive on how to tackle the North where the All Progressives Congress (APC) controls 14 states as opposed to only four states by PDP.

"In 2015, we adopted sole candidacy and dampened the morale of members to openly campaign for the PDP," he hinted further.

The letter reads; "History beckons on each and every one of you to take a decision that will not only stabilise our party but also showcase the readiness of our party for the 2023 elections.

The choice before you today is between adhering to the principles of equity, fairness and natural justice or plainly  focusing on the task of winning an election as an opposition party. Indeed, they are inseparable and none can be discarded for the other.

There have been arguments about the fairness of zoning to the south after eight years of the Buhari Presidency. There are also counter-arguments of the North having ruled for only two years and nine months out of 16 years of PDP in power and therefore deserves its own fair share of presidential candidacy after only two attempts(2007 and 2019) as opposed to the four by the south(1999,2003,2011 and 2015).

Notwithstanding the merits of either side of the divide, most Nigerians hold only one truth as self evident at this time of our political development: that in good conscience and for equity and fairness, it is really the turn of the South-East to produce the next President of Nigeria.

The South-east zone on its own has thrown up very quality candidates and in reality, no Nigerian can question the proven tract record of prudence and accountability of Mr Peter Obi in managing an economy or the leadership qualities in service delivery of Senator Pius Anyim. It is therefore clear that the South East of PDP deserves and is actually ready  to deliver our country out of the present doldrums.

However, oftentimes, what is desirable may not be achievable and therefore there is need for the PDP to thread carefully and be sensitive on how to tackle the North where the All Progressives Congress (APC) controls 14 states as opposed to only four states by us. In 2015, we adopted sole candidacy and dampened the morale of members to openly campaign for the PDP.

The real argument therefore is that our party is built on the ideals of our founding fathers and that the principles of equity, fairness and natural justice appear non-negotiable at every stage of our development.

Even the argument that the preamble provides for zoning of offices cannot ignore the same preamble that stated:

' PROMPTED by a firm conviction that the enthronement of a moral social order will result in the spiritual regeneration of the nation.'

It may therefore appear inequitable, unfair and repugnant to natural justice for a decent and noble party like the PDP, having allowed individuals to campaign for such a long period with the attendant human and material cost, to undemocratically truncate their aspiration with zoning at this late hour.

Are we still enthroning a moral social order that will result in the spiritual regeneration of the nation or are we engaging in an act capable of breeding discontent, disharmony and disaffection by those unfairly disadvantaged by taking a good policy at a very late hour?

For the records, the 2019 zoning to the North was done well ahead of the primaries and no member from the South complained of having suffered untold hardship on that account.

THE PDP CANNOT APPEAR TO IMPUGN ON ITS MORAL SOCIAL ORDER AFTER SUCH AN EXTENSIVE AND MASSIVE REBRANDING.

We all witnessed the sad events of 2013 and 2014 where some of our founding members were encouraged to leave by outright denial of equal opportunities and other similar actions done with impunity of power. I remember the cases of Governor Ortom, Chief Banabas Gemade, Governor Tambuwal, ex-governors Wamako, Nyako and many orders.

Nothing should be done to appear to take us back to such a period of arrogance of power especially as we are in opposition.

We are faced with a ruling party that appear to be reorganising. They have taken good political hands from us and promoted them to the highest positions not minding any emotional blackmail.

Just this morning, the Presidency is already mocking us with complaints of our absorbing our former members. I believe the APC is actually frightened of the potency of our former leaders who have fully returned to our party. We should not play into the hands of conspiratorial tactics of our competition, the APC.

As a person who participated fully in organising our resistance at the height of the popularity of APC; one who suffered greatly at great human and material costs, including denial of my liberty and freedom, as the longest serving elected member of the National Executive Committee of the PDP in history and one who has served as Ex-officio Member of the NEC, Zonal Youth Leader, National Auditor, National Vice-Chairman and National Publicity Secretary, I plead that none of you should fall into the temptation of attempting to zone offices at this late hour.

THE LOYALTY TO THE IDEALS OF OUR GREAT PARTY AND COMMITMENT TO ITS SUCCESS SHOULD TRANSCEND THE TEMPTATION TO PANDER TO THE WISHES OF THOSE PROMOTING THIER PERSONAL AGENDA.

In conclusion, I plead that the only choice for equity, fairness, good conscience and natural justice to reign, is to allow all members the opportunity to contest without the moral burden of Zoning. Zoning can be done immediately after the elections.

Finally, what the PDP needs at this time is an electoral committee to prepare the party for the strategy and tactics of election management and not the distraction of zoning just to satisfy personal ambitions.
PoliticsAs Commissioner I Did All That Were Assigned To Me Creditably And ... by Blogsphere(op): 8:57am On Mar 28, 2022
As Commissioner I did all that were assigned to me creditably and with integrity - Akan Okon

Mr. Akan Okon, resigned his appointment as Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, recently to contest for the governorship of Akwa Ibom State. In a post-resignation interaction with journalists, he said leadership experience in public service is one of his strengths for the governorship race. Excerpts:

Q: The Governor, your former boss has anointed someone as his preferred successor. Were you shocked by choice?

Okon: I was not shocked. You can observe that since the Governor made the announcement, you have not heard me make any comment. I went about my business and going to work everyday and delivering on all the assignments that I was given. At the appropriate time I had to leave. The reason for leaving was very clear which is to contest for the governorship in 2023.

Q: Are you satisfied with your performance in office?

Okon: While in office God helping me, I discharged my duties and the various assignments given to me creditably. I joined Akwa Ibom State Government in 2013 and my first assignment was at the Ministry of Economic Development. I spent six months there as Commissioner and at the end of six months I was moved to the Ministry of Finance where I served to the end of that administration led by Governor Godswill Akpabio. When Governor Udom Emmanuel won the election in 2015 and was sworn in as Governor, I was reappointed into that office. That has made me keep the record as the only person to serve two Governors as Finance Commissioner. I want to say that I served in that office with integrity. Why am I saying so, in Nigeria, the easiest way to have issues with EFCC is to be a Finance Commissioner. To the glory of God I served there and I left in December, 2016. EFCC has never invited me and they will never invite me.

From that office I was sent to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Renewal, and later, Ministry of Special Duties. My responsibility and key deliverable was the 21-storey building which I am sure all of us can see. Another project the Ministry delivered under my supervision was the Governor’s lodge in Lagos. The lodge has since been completed and put to use. The airport was under my supervision. Being in that Ministry gave me the opportunity to correct the anomaly that I notice at our airport. Before now, when airline passengers moved into the airport terminal building to check in or obtain boarding pass, you will pass through security, for the economic passengers you pay at the departure hall. When there was a need to use the convenience you will have to go out of the security checkpoint and then come back to be screened. In fact in those days of when there were flight delays, there was no place for people waiting to buy water, because the only place water was sold was inside the departure hall which they didn't have access to. That necessitated the construction of a new building attached to the existing terminal, where you have a restaurant, a gift shop, pharmacy and convenience for members of the public.
Today, if you are travelling, while waiting at the departure hall, if you have to come out of the security area, it won’t be because you want to use the convenience. Now also, members of the public can have access to whatever thing they need at the airport.

From that Ministry I was moved to Special Duties and Aviation Development, my responsibility was to ensure that we had Ibom Air flying and I am happy today to the glory of God, Ibom Air is flying and within a very short period of time it has become the airline of first choice for travelers in Nigeria. The high standards of professional service delivery offered by the airline has increased customers' traffic to our airport and has rendered the existing terminal building inadequate that is what necessitated the move for the new permanent international terminal building which is under construction. When completed, the terminal will be one of the best in Africa.

From that Ministry I was moved to the Ministry of Economic Development & Ibom Deep seaport. The key deliverable there was to ensure that we obtain the approval for the development of Ibom deep seaport, an approval that eluded us for over 20 years as a State and by God’s grace on 16th December, 2020, we obtained that approval and I want to thank Governor Udom Emmanuel, the Chairperson of the Technical Committee on Ibom deep seaport, Mrs. Mfon Usoro, for their efforts and all the things they did to ensure that we obtained that approval.

The question was if I am satisfied, in all that I have said, God helped me to deliver on those assignments and I am happy I was able to accomplish all the tasks and assignments given to me and to that extent I am very happy I was able to do what I did.

Q: What critical needs have you identified that you intend to meet as Governor of Akwa Ibom State?

Okon: To be successful in any vocation, you need to undergo a lot of qualification and proficiency training. At 34 years, Akwa Ibom State cannot afford to be an experimental field where people come to learn leadership in public service. We need someone who has been around and understudied the various sectors of the State’s economy, and also understands the challenges that our people are facing so that from day one, he will hit the ground running in embarking on those policies and programmes that will lead to an improvement in the standard of living of our people. I want to thank Governor Udom Emmanuel for allowing God to use him to train me in public service. As you are aware, I have traversed many Ministries, this was a training and added advantage for me. A Ministry like Economic Development gave me an opportunity to have in-depth knowledge on the workings of government. Whatever happens in the judiciary, legislature or the executive comes to that Ministry. I have a good knowledge and understanding of what is required to be done so that Akwa Ibom State can continue to be on the path of development and growth.
I want to say that why I am contesting is that I have the experience, I have been trained, I am prepared for this leadership position and you will agree with me that we need someone with experience. If you want to look at it, competence is important in leadership, capacity is also important in leadership, integrity is also important in leadership. Governor Udom Emmanuel has done well, he has embarked on projects that are legacy projects and some of these projects cannot be completed in the life of this administration, his successor must be someone who has full understanding of these projects so that he can continue with them and ensure that they are completed and put to use. If you observe, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s developmental focus is based on three gateways, land, water and air, and fortunately I am the one who by the special grace of God supervised all the three areas, so I am better equipped to continue with what Governor Udom Emmanuel has done so that Akwa Ibom can be what we all want it to be.
Under the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel a lot has been done to create jobs. I believe we should continue to create jobs. We have a lot of intelligent and enterprising young men and women and all what they need is an opportunity to serve, I will create the needed opportunities for them.
As a State, we have had our fair share of issues arising from inconsistency in policies and projects implementation and a disconnect between the past and present. An average Akwa Ibom person requires a conducive environment to function, I know this based on what I have observed. I believe I have what it takes to provide that environment.
We will create business incubation centers to train and empower young people who have sellable and buyable ideas - we will link them with business angels, by that I mean investors who have funds to invest in their businesses- that will help them grow and become sustainable. The State needs the right environment for our people and a lot has been done in terms of security, we believe that if it continues in this fashion, we will achieve a lot.

Q: You are not the Governor’s preferred candidate, don’t you think you are swimming against the tide?

Okon: We are all seated here because God has made it possible. God is leading me, I don’t see myself swimming against the tide. There is no man on earth that is led by God that swims against the tide.

Q: What shortcomings have you identified in the Udom Emmanuel's administration that you would want to correct?

Okon: There is no human being that is perfect. There is no perfect government, but I believe that the government led by Governor Udom Emmanuel has done well, and like it is always said, government is a continuum. A State is like a book with different chapters and if you remove five chapters from a book with ten chapters that book can never be complete. Every successive administration since the creation of Akwa Ibom has contributed to the development of the State. Each one comes to take over from where the previous one stopped. I believe that whatever has been the positive things achieved by this government, it will be the responsibility of the next administration to enforce it for the good of Akwa Ibom people and the areas you believe are not properly done, we will together make modifications because the State belongs to us; we will ensure that we do those modifications in a way that will be acceptable to everyone.

Q: Looking at the quality of other aspirants seeking the governorship position, how do you intend to navigate your way through to become the next Governor of the State?

Okon: You will be one of those who will help me navigate the way. (Laughs). As my friend, you have a duty to tell Akwa Ibom people the qualities of who should be the next Governor and what is expected of a good Governor. If you can tell Akwa Ibom people the lot you have known about my personality, performance, capacity and experience, they will decide that Akan Okon is the best for them in 2023.

Q: Do you have support from the party to contest this election?

Okon: If you want to see my supporters, you wait for the day I will declare. You cannot do things the same way and expect a different result. You might be seeing quite new faces in what we are going to do, I can assure you that when we are through you will know that one with God is a majority.

Q: What is your relationship like with Governor Udom Emmanuel?

Okon: Governor Udom Emmanuel is my friend. This is our 40th year of friendship and nothing will stand on the way of our relationship. I tendered my resignation on Monday 14th March, 2022, and last Friday we were together, that should confirm to you that my aspiration cannot come between our relationship. The Governor and I are interested in the development of the State, we are very passionate about it. I believe we have a very robust relationship and nothing can come between us.

Q: It appears that the Governor was intentional about the Ministries he assigned you to head as his personal friend. Why was he not intentional about choosing you as his preferred successor?

Okon: God rules in the affairs of men, and God’s ways are different from that of men. One of you asked if I have consulted the Governor? Yes, I have. I consulted the Governor on 23rd day of September, 2021. That is a significant day because it is the date of our State creation.

Q: Do you support the agitation by Itu/Ibiono federal constituency that the seat of governorship be zoned to the area?

Okon: I believe in the demand for the governorship by Itu/Ibiono people; I also believe that God is not an author of confusion, and the reason for zoning is to reduce in-fighting. I believe that in Itu/ibiono federal constituency, we have competent people that can lead this State. I support that sentiment, but that shouldn’t entirely be the yardstick - competence, experience, capacity must also be considered apart from zoning.

Q: Are you part of the emerging coalition who wants to stop Governor Emmanuel's preferred successor?

Okon: Life is evolving, we can’t say for sure that there is a coalition. We cannot pre-empt that it will continue in the same fashion it used to be. However, let’s keep our fingers crossed. Everything is in the hands of God.

Babatunde Gbadamosi Does Not Own Amen Estates, Investors Have Nothing To Worry About – RedBrick Homes Reveals

Following the recent negative rumors being circulated by the vindictive ex-husband of the owner of Amen Estate, across social media regarding the legitimacy and security of investments in Amen Estates, the renowned company has finally decided to open up by issuing an official statement.

Speaking through Red Brick Homes’ Chairman/CEO, Folasade Balogun, the company put out a disclaimer to notify the general public that their former nominal director, Babatunde Gbadamosi does not own Amen Estates, has since voluntarily resigned and relinquished all his shares in the company, and that the company is 100% safe and open to investors.

This public notice was published in the Guardian Newspaper today, Wednesday, February 23, 2022, and on Vanguard and Punch newspapers as well.

You may recall that Babatunde had taken to social media to publicly denounce Red Brick Homes and also subtly claimed that anyone that does business with them is in grave danger of losing their invested funds. This is not only an outrageous fallacy, but a premeditated and calculated malicious attack on the integrity of the company and his now ex-wife, Folasade.

Politics2023: Tambuwal Is Pdp’s Best Bet For Presidency – GNC by Blogsphere(op): 11:59pm On Feb 18, 2022
GNC’s position was contained in a statement released by its co- conveners, Barrister Ruth Edehemon and Malam Rufai Abdulahi, in Abuja yesterday. It read:

“Across the nation, there is a general consensus, that 2023 election, should as a matter of importance, answer some nagging questions, among which are equity, justice and inclusion, the key tripod that ensure democratic balance.

“And PDP as a democratic party, should not shy away from this conversation that is rooted in fairness and truth. Beyond sentiments, the South and North are deserving of fair play and inclusion, a twin democratic feature that have been unwittingly starved by the government in power and would require an urgent restoration for the common good and unity of our dear nation.

“It is expedient that the PDP addresses the lingering ambiguity over which zone the presidential candidate should come from; and follow it up by building an honest purpose-driven, robust consensus, as may be allowed by law, around a suitable aspirant that possesses not only the leadership skill to unite the nation, but also be a veritable linkage between the older and the current generations; such that the sublimity of wisdom and restraint of leadership would find a meeting point with the treasure trove of the energy, creativity and ingenuity of the youth demography.

” Incontrovertible records show that the PDP as a party has managed the affairs of the nation at the presidency level for 16 years. And it’s a fact that the Southern part of the nation had held sway for over 14 years of the 16, through former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo 8 years (1999 -2007) and Goodluck Jonathan, 6 years (2010 – 2015). While the North had only ruled for a little over two years under the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua, who unfortunately died in office.

“So, we strongly believe that rather than this disturbing silence that is eliciting enflamed passion and seeming confusion, over the zone that should be supported for presidency in 2023 in the PDP, the party should be bold to speak up by putting this record into consideration, bring its leaders from both the North and South on a round table, address their deferent sentiments, do necessary in-house negotiations and present a formidable, united front that would give the party a meaningful chance in the challenge ahead.”

On the aspirant from the North with requisite leadership and managerial experience, personality and public appeal, that could benefit from the consensus approach, the GNC said: “With no prejudice to other prominent aspirants from the zone in PDP, the party should build consensus around someone with less controversy or negative public sentiments, with an unquestionable vigour for the demanding job of a president, essentially now that public scrutiny is rising over age and other physical variables of potential candidates, ahead of the general election.

“One person, in our estimation, that ticks the right boxes, is the Governor of Sokoto State, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. A lawyer, lawmaker, public administrator and chief executive of a state in the past seven years, it is our view and those of many, that the PDP would not be making a mistake with his choice and wealth of experience.

“Tambuwal’s privileged interactions with different interests, sectors and segments in and out of the Nigerian society, would enrich the contest and brighten the chances of the PDP, should it act fast and rally its faithful, contacts and resources around him.

“Democratic governance has become progressively very dynamic that a person with an invaluable hands-on experience in the legislature, judiciary and executive arms of government, such as Governor Tambuwal, would be an asset to PDP’s quest to return to power in 2023.”

PoliticsOsun APC Primary: Group Raises Alarm Over Influx Of Hoodlums From Close States by Blogsphere(op): 4:39pm On Feb 16, 2022
Osun APC primary: Group raises alarm over influx of hoodlums from neighboring states

. Accuses Interior minister of camping 3,000 NSCDC personnel in Osun

A socio-political group, Osun Shall Rise Again, OSRA, has raised the alarm over influx of hoodlums from neighboring States, ahead of the All Progressives Congress' governorship primary election for Osun State coming up this Saturday.

The group noted that it became necessary to raise the alarm so as to put security operatives on the alert and avoid consequences to peace, human safety and properties in the state.

Specifically, it further stated it had intelligence report that the Interior minister and former Osun Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, had assembled 3,000 personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, obviously to use them to cause trouble with a view to discrediting the election process.

In a statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the group, Saheed Bakare and Lanre Akeju, respectively, OSRA said information at its disposal indicated that The Osun Progressives (TOP) and their sponsors were bent on precipitating violence after the Monday attempt failed.

The group also advised the Inspector General of Police and the State Commissioner of Police to take measures to ensure that the plots of those who want to distabilize Osun do not succeed.

“We are calling on the Inspector-General of Police to be on the look out and charge the Osun CP to take proactive measures to avert violence in Osun on Saturday.

“Our former Governor and Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has been trying to create the impression that we are in a state of war in Osun so as to ensure that the APC governorship election does not hold or gets discredited if it holds against their wish,” the group said.

PoliticsMetuh Appeals To NJC To Formulate Robust Practice Rules For Medical Treatment by Blogsphere(op): 4:22pm On Feb 15, 2022
Metuh Appeals to NJC to Formulate Robust Practice Rules for Medical Treatment for Accused Persons

The former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh has appealed to the Judiciary to formulate robust practice directions to ensure objective criteria for granting medical dispensation to those awaiting trial or even in incarceration.

Addressing the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Abuja Chapter, who paid him a visit at his residence in Abuja on Tuesday, Metuh remarked the his experience while on trial at the Federal High Court when his entreaties for medical treatment were repeatedly refused even with medical reports (including X-rays, Scan and MRIs) from several reputable university teaching hospitals in Nigeria.

Metuh stated that in the last 14 months, he has had several procedures and surgeries to attempt to correct the damage to his health arising from his inability to get the requisite treatment and advanced specialist care during his trial.

“I welcome you on your visit of solidarity to console me over the travails I have had with my health, especially this surgery which was deeper than what I thought at first. I was really scared because when they took me to the theater, they discovered that a my conditions had, as is often the case with the human body, been exacerbated because they could not be treated early.

“In the past 14 months, I have gone through harrowing procedures and surgeries. All the experts that I saw informed me that the delay in getting timely treatment has caused fundamental damage to my physiology and overall health.

“This is all because I was denied the presumption of innocence that should have worked in my favour. This denial appeared to be arbitrary and without adverting to the detailed medical reports including X-rays, scans and MRIs from several reputable University Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria.

“My lawyer, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu SAN, even offered to use his practicing certificate and licence as additional  guarantee.

"I had no choice but to attend court on hospital stretchers  and wheelchairs, often incapacitated and in excruciating pain.

“As a very senior lawyer myself, I honestly believe that clear and detailed practice directions on accommodation of applications for indulgence on medical grounds would have vastly reduced and probably eliminated the scope for caprice which has proved so deleterious to my health. To paraphrase a litigant in America whose charges were vacated as mine have but only after suffering personal adversity, "I am happy for my freedom but where can I go to get my health back?"

“It is on this note that I am appealing to the Judiciary to look at ways of giving benefit of doubts to defendants who have medical conditions and may need urgent expert medical attention and treatment. For example, if in doubt, the Judge may be required to order the medical doctor or the chief medical director of the hospital to appear to certify the report and verbally justify the need to grant the leave for medical treatment” Metuh stated.

Speaking at the visit, President of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Abuja Chapter, Chief S.O.D Onyekwere. thanked God for saving Metuh’s life and urged him to remain strong and continue in good spirit in spite of his travails. "We thank God for the strength and resilience you showed throughout and most of all your faith in God".

It would be recalled the Court of Appeal in December 2020 voided the February 25, 2020 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Okon Abang on the grounds of manifest bias by the trial judge.

End.

Osun guber: Najeem salam shuns entreaties from Aregbesola’s men
. Set to ditch group

Former Osun Speaker and winner of the shadow election conducted by The Osun Progressives (TOP), Hon. Najeem Salam, has bemoaned the treatment given him by the loyalists of Aregbesola, saying “once bitten twice shy.”

He was also said to have dropped the hint of his desire to dump the group with a view to returning to the mainstream All Progressives Congress (APC).

Salam had emerged winner of the TOP’s shadow primary, where Moshood Adeoti and Lasun Yusuff, came second and third respectively.

Going by the result of the shadow election, Salam was supposed to be TOP’s anointed candidate. But the group made a U-turn and gave Adeoti the nod to pick the form, a development that has angered Salam and his followers with a threat from them to leave the group.

On Sunday, Aregbesola sent a delegation to Ejigbo to pacify the former speaker. But sources say Salam remained adamant, saying it was not the first time “Aregbesola will be using and dumping me.”

“This is a clear case of cheating. I won’t say more than that. But what I will do next, is in my mind, “ Salam was quoted to have said.

Among those who went on the visit are : Kolapo Alimi, Elder Lowo Adebiyi and Alh. Rasak Salinsile among others.

It will be recalled that 500 TOP members returned to the mainstream APC , yesterday.

PoliticsBuhari’s Successor Must Commit To National Re-unification - Ex-nerc Chair by Blogsphere(op): 2:35pm On Feb 09, 2022
2023: Buhari’s successor must commit to national re-unification —Sam Amadi, Ex-NERC chair

By Chukwudi Nweje

Associate Professor and Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, in this interview speaks about why President Muhammadu Buhari’s government failed to realise the three cardinal promises of the administration, what his successor must do to re-unite the country and other national issues.

The former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and Head, Private and Property Law at Baze University, Abuja also speaks on other issues.

President Buhari’s administration will come to an end next year and it is clear that insecurity has spread from the North East where it was localised in 2015 to envelope the entire country; the economy has taken a dip and the latest ranking of the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) compiled by Transparency International (TI) shows Nigeria has gone farther down the ladder. What do you think account for the administration’s failure in addressing these issues?

The failure of the President Buhari-led administration in the areas of security, economy and anti-corruption illustrates what happens when people come to power without a clear understanding of the problems and therefore came without a coherent and implementable strategy and roadmap to solving those problems.

The Buhari administration lacked clear, coherent and accurate diagnosis of Nigeria’s problems. The buzz word change was nothing implementable, the mantra lacked clarity and precision. The All Progressives Congress (APC) propaganda machine did not fully align to or address the real underlining causes of Nigeria’s corruption status, which derives from the crisis of production, crisis of ethics and crisis of nationality.

Nigeria is conceived as a consumer prerogative oriented state designed for sharing, a state where elites work to capture the state, and fighting corruption in this kind of state requires strategic realignment and fundamental revision of the institutions and the structure and underlining logic of the state.

It is not about clamping PDP leaders or officials of the past government who may be corrupt in prison. Buhari’s unraveling as now, a confidant or a champion of the most corrupt politicians is a predictable surprise because it flows from his total lack of understanding of how corruption manifests, it is the same with the economy; you need to have a real strategic plan built around an understanding of the Nigerian structural crisis that produce underdevelopment and economic stagnation.

You need a clear strategy that is properly contextualised to drive diversification and improve productivity and therefore create sustainable economic growth. The issue of security was clearly used as a weapon to fight the PDP, but it is now clear that the crisis is endemic and built around the crisis of production and governance and Buhari did not understand that and that is the reason why he failed woefully in the three cardinal areas of security, economy and anti corruption.

From all indications, whoever comes into office in 2023 will have to deal with rising insecurity, failing economy and corruption. How do you think these should be handled?

Whoever comes in as President of Nigeria in 2023 will be faced with a lot of work to do; it will not be palatable as the aspirants seem to be making it to be. In the last six to seven years, this government has undermined the capacity of the institutions and so part of what should happen is the need to create a consensus across the geopolitical zones in terms of ethnic consensus and recreate commitment to the Nigerian state.

There is need for commitment to seek out solutions without thinking of implications to geopolitical zones. For example, we now see that insecurity in Northern Nigeria is tied to some kind of militant political Islam that is focused on creating a caliphate. So, you cannot really solve the insecurity crisis in terms of terrorism and banditry without carefully but courageously shifting through the morals of religious fundamentalists and consistently promoting the concept of a democratic state against those who want to undermine it.

Then across the South, you have kidnappings and insurrection and you cannot deal with them without recreating symbols of governance in which the people have a sense that they all count equally so that there will be no reason for the people to think that the government in Abuja is pursuing Islamisation or Fulanisation. We need to have that shift and that is the first thing to do to recreate commitment and seek out solutions and thirdly, I think the leadership should have some clear headedness and rethink, change their perspective of politics and see the problem with new eyes, have current diagnosis and then marshal out current and effective solutions; we need to move away from dogma and fundamentalism to realism and focus on providing solutions to the problems.

What are your concerns on the 2023 general elections given the current state of insecurity in the country?

The 2023 election will come and go. The election may be one of the most rushed. We are not prepared for the election – the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) political parties and the electorate. So we may have a compromise candidate emerge as president. There will not be intense campaign, the sort that will bring out the issues in a rigorous manner that will enlighten the citizens.

So, what will change our future for the better is that some Nigerians are really working hard on solutions to our problems and willing to push the creative solutions they get and are lucky to have listening ear on power. I don’t have much hope about this.

What in your view are the major challenges facing Nigeria’s democracy. United States (US), President Joe Biden during his summit with world leaders expressed this view that democracy doesn’t happen by accident and should be renewed each generation. In Nigeria, it seems our idea of renewal is the four years periodic election during which politicians trade blames over who is to blame for the rot in the country?

The major challenge for Nigerian democracy is how to make democracy so called work for the well-being of the people and secure stability and peace. In as much as democracy has inherent value; its survival requires instrumentation. If democracy does not provide food and shelter and cannot guarantee peace, then it will fail.

That’s what we are seeing in West Africa. Democracy is not spiritually ordained. It justifies itself by its prudential value. In Nigeria, our democracy is sick because it does not have enough of the cultural nutrients to make it healthy and now its incapacity to provide the basics of life make it almost sentenced to death unless we can do something drastic and in quick time.

As the general elections approach, many groups are talking about a third force that will stand against the APC and the PDP at the pool. In 2014, a merger of parties drove the PDP from power and it turned out that merger, the APC is not the solution, what do you think?

The third force is a great idea as long as it has enough force. I am not sure it does. The Third Force will be a great idea if its proponents are prepared to lose the 2023 presidential election and may be win some legislative or state seats. And also prepare clear alternatives to galvanise the Nigerian people at the right time to overthrow the prevailing order. It is unreasonable and almost unethical to form a Third Force just to win the presidency in the next election. No. It should be to present an alternative future and alternative ideas for Nigerian redemption and allow those ideas to gestate and germinate as big oaks so that you can knock off the status quo.

We make mistake to liken the APC to the current third force. APC was not a third force. APC was an opportunistic coalition of some PDP and other fringe parties. Without the N-PDP, there would have been no victory; plus the ACN faction. It was not a new moment. It was an old moment that divided itself. There was nothing grand or new about APC in 2014.

Many of those who have indicated interests in 2023 presidential election are people who have been in government or are still in government; how do you feel seeing these people aspire to lead Nigeria?

Nigeria lacks the real high energy politics that it needs to deliver herself. There are some good signs. Someone like Dr Ayu, the National Chairman of the PDP is the sort of politician with the capacity to rethink and dream again and present a vision that could be transformative. There are a few people like him in the main parties. I feel like the APC is particularly vulnerable to the lack of vision and inspiration that grips Nigerian politics. We are like a people marooned in an island waiting for rescue but in the meantime instead of being watchful, are busy in a water party. The prospect is gloomy. But I believe things will improve in 2023 when by an accident of a leader who is unlike Buhari we have an opportunity to summon the best of us to think again and dream anew. For now, PDP offers better hope for that accident.

We are at the last lap of this administration’s stay in office, what do you think Nigerians should be looking at post Buhari to ensure we do not end up with a repetition of what we have now?

President Buhari makes Nigeria’s future very clear. We need an extreme urgency of national re-unification. Buhari has almost completely derogated that unity through some acts and symbolisms. We need a leader who is the opposite of Buhari, a leader that is liberal-minded, moderate, accommodating and respectful of diversity and differences. We need a leader who will project compassion and fairness and march symbolisms with real action.

We need a leader who has enough communicative intelligence to speak comfortably to the rest of the country. We need above all ‘shared powers’ which will make it difficult for any one group to win big against another and which will force the President to do justice to all people. Also, we need a leader who must reform Nigeria. He or she may not be the best or even a technocrat. But it must be one who truly believes in radical reforms and willing to get someone with knowledge and courage to change things on his behalf. We need to correct course. We need to exit the ‘change train’. We need to jump ship from the change that started in 2014.

PoliticsReset Nigeria Threaten Not To Support PDP If Presidency Isn't Zoned To The South by Blogsphere(op): 10:32am On Jan 25, 2022
Reset Nigeria calls for President of Southern extraction, threatens to vote against PDP if they zone presidency to North1

The Reset Nigeria group has called on the people of Southern Nigeria to resist the attempt by the main opposition, People’s Democratic Party, to zone their presidential candidate to Northern Nigeria in 2023.

The group called on the Party to allow fairness, equity and natural justice to prevail by allowing a president of southern extraction to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The spokesperson of the group, Mallam Ibrahim Mustapha in a press statement made available to newsmen said, it is imperative that power is returned to Southern Nigeria in 2023 as it has always been the tradition of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, the PDP to allow equity and Justice to prevail.

The group recalled that in 1999, both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD) fielded Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Chief Olu Falae, respectively owing to a consensus among the ruling elite then that power should be returned to the South in 1999, apparently to calm frayed nerves among the Yoruba people who felt that they were shortchanged by the annulment of the 1993 presidential election won by Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola.

The group frowns at any attempt by the main opposition, PDP to deny the South, a president of Southern extraction.

“The South is not bereft of competent and politically savvy Patriots to govern the country. Why should they be denied the opportunity to produce a president in 2023?”

The group threatened that if the main opposition PDP goes ahead to deny the region a southern candidate in 2023, they’ll mobilize over five million of their members to vote against the party in 2023.

The PDP entrenched the zoning formula, though not in the nation’s constitution for the purpose of equity, fairness and justice and as such, the current leadership should not truncate the gentleman agreement that the founding fathers entrenched in the party.

“The goal is to move the country forward and no nation thrives where there is no peace, equity and justice”.

The group is one of many groups that has threatened to vote against any party that goes north in picking who represents them. Also, youth groups, nationalists and statesmen have joined in that same call.

CareerMicrosoft ADC Disability Event; A Look Into The Future by Blogsphere(op): 10:21am On Dec 29, 2021
According to the UN, more than 1 billion people globally have some type of disability. They are one of the most excluded groups in our society and are among the hardest hit by the Covid-19 crisis.

Even under normal circumstances, persons living with disabilities are less likely to access health care, education, employment and to participate in the community. Therefore an integrated approach is required to ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind.

In this case, IT plays a critical role in developing assistive technologies. There are technologies i.e products or systems, that maintains, increases, or improves the functional capability of people with disabilities.

At this year’s International Day of Disabled People, Tech giant Microsoft organised a global talent acquisition event through its engineering center Microsoft Africa Development Center (Microsoft ADC) for engineering and non-engineering talents living with disabilities in Africa.

At the event, Speakers reiterated the importance of inclusiveness of people living with disability in the workspace especially as they constitute a significant part of the unemployed majorly due to their disabilities.

Some of the major highlights of their event was demonstrating in practical terms what inclusivity entails, where two of their keynote speakers gave a brief description of their physical appearance describing what they wore, just to ensure that nobody was left behind as they had different disabilities presented at the event.

They’ve also made available some features in teams such as captions, transcripts, blurred background for presentations and virtual representation at the workplace environment.

It was clear from the event that a key component in making the life of people living with disability better is to raise awareness about the potentials that are inherent in people living with disabilities.

During the event it examples of the various feats and groundbreaking achievements that has been recorded by people living with disabilities was discussed and this further established the fact that ‘’their disability would never be a hindrance to their success’’ and a worthy example in this context is Nick Vujicic- Founder of Life with Limbs, who according to him found his own potentials though born without limbs and hands, is touching and motivating people living with disabilities around the globe.

With a lot of new roles springing up in the tech industry, Microsoft stays committed to ensuring that people living with disabilities are not left out as they bring promising opportunities and new upgrades to their existing inclusivity and accessibility programs to better serve them as well as university students and experienced professionals in the coming years.

As the world continues to find better ways to deal with the challenges COVID -19 has left us with, we all should stay committed to developing and taking advantage of technologies that can help us create a more inclusive world for people living with disabilities.

PoliticsOsun Guber: Top's Plot To Instigate Youths' Protest Uncovered by Blogsphere(op): 8:52pm On Dec 20, 2021
Osun guber: TOP's plot to instigate youths' protest uncovered

A socio-political group , Osun Shall Rise Again, OSRA, has raised the alarm over plots by The Osun Progressives , TOP, to instigate some youths to protest in Osun to create the impression that they would desire a governorship candidate from the West Senatorial District.

In a statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the group respectively , Saheed Bakare and Lanre Akeju, OSRA said information at its disposal indicates that the group, being sponsored by the former Osun Governor and Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, planned the protest to create the impression that the incumbent governor is not popular, the same narrative it attempted to spread in the build-up to the 2018 governorship election.

To this end, OSRA called on Osun youths to shun what it called "dubious and avoidable distractions," saying that Oyetola, remains the All Progressives Congress, APC, best bet in winning next year's election.

"We have witnessed a gale of endorsements for Oyetola's candidature from the West especially and across the State in general. And because these endorsements from our findings are spontaneous, we believe it is the reflection of the reality on the ground.

"We are aware that all those issues that reduced APC's popularity and made it struggle to win the governorship in the build-up to the 2018 governorship poll have all been addressed by Oyetola and have endeared the party to the people once more.

"From abolition of half salary to reversal of single uniform and revert to old names of the various schools among others, Oyetola has won the hearts of the people. As youths therefore, we must resist this dubious and avoidable distractions in the name of 'West Lokan (it is the turn of West), packaged mainly to distract our performing governor.

"Oyetola cannot be faulted on the issue of performance and the popular and acceptable saying is that ' you don't change a winning team.'

"Do not be deceived, our information is being lent credence to by the interview granted by one Lani Bederinwa on behalf of TOP in the Monday's edition of Daily Independent newspaper, where he stated clearly that they were planning to field persons against Oyetola in the primary election and all they were after was to ensure they reached a consensus on who to slug it out with the governor out of the retinue of aspirants they currently parade from West.

"But this same Baderinwa and all notable TOP chieftains had at different times said they had no quarrel with the governor but were interested in reforming the party. What has now changed? This shows that these people are up to some dubious political game," the group said.

Crypto Giant FTX, Reaches Out To Pre-Tertiary Institutions of Learning – By Abimboye Femi

Africa’s most popular cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has been in the news on a regular for some time now; all as a result of churning out one innovative idea or the other. While many will attribute this to marketing tactics, a little known aspect of the company is its chastity stance. One of its mantra is that the company was founded with the goal of having the largest possible positive impact on the world.

In reality, the FTX Africa team is living up to this goal. Just recently, FTX launched an educational charity outreach in Nigeria. The outreach event started as a series of school visitation as well as intervention across the country to both primary and secondary institutions of learning. FTX hopes to help create a conducive environment for learning while also emphasising the need for pupils to value education.

According to the Business Development Manager for FTX in Africa, Adebayo Juwon, “We are strong believers in education, and we have been actively collaborating and engaging in dialogue with players in the ecosystem.” Hence, the company is taking a stronger approach to further affirm its willingness to uphold its mantra as a platform for the people by fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.

The cryptocurrency exchange giant is leveraging on this to help provide services beneficial to a number of formative educational institutions. Some of the beneficiary schools so far include; Aguda Junior Secondary school, Makoko floating school, Alimosho Junior Grammer School, Istrina School in Ajegunle, Tomvic School in Mushin as well as Alagbado Junior Grammer school.
In all the schools visited so far, the FTX team has been able to donate writing and learning materials such as books, boards, textbooks, fans, mathematical sets, calculators as well as sitting facilities among others to the pupils as well as staffs present in such schools.

FTX.COM is a cryptocurrency exchange built for traders as an intuitive yet powerful platform for all users. The platform also strives to be the most innovative exchange in the industry and has seen a positive growth since it debuted two years ago. Asides its educational outreach, FTX also runs a crypto tour aimed at educating both seasoned experts as well as interested newbies on the opportunities available in the cryptocurrency industry.

In the last few months alone, FTX has impacted knowledge on over 1500 individuals across the country and now is taking the charge to secondary schools. No doubt, the company is expected to roll out more innovative ideas in the coming months as a means of living up to its vision.

PoliticsThe Return Of A'ibom Christmas Carols Festival by Blogsphere(op): 4:14pm On Dec 10, 2021
The Return of A'Ibom Christmas Carols Festival

By Edidiong Udobia

Like a phoenix, the world is rising from its ashes after a ravaging global pandemic. Dubai, the epicenter of world's innovation, is finally hosting the much awaited EXPO 2020. The global football community is back to intensively debating the integrity of the much revered Ballon d'Or award after the 2021 edition. With countries opening up again for business and leisure, and travel bans slowly relaxing, the global economy is kicking again. The world, that had literally stopped for almost a year, is back on motion, and really picking up very fast, because there is a lot of catching up to do.

In few days, Akwa Ibom, a state in Nigeria's South-South region, will be on the global spotlight with the return of the Akwa Ibom Carols Festival, one of the biggest carols festivals in the world. This year's edition of the carols festival is tagged “The Return” obviously because the event, which has remained an annual festival since its maiden edition in December 2008, could not hold in 2020 due to the pandemic. “The Government of Akwa Ibom State wishes to inform the general public that the 2020 Edition of the state's award winning Christmas Carols festival has been cancelled,” the State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Orman Esin had announced in a statement in December 2020. “This development is hinged on the logistics challenge posed by the global lockdown and international travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the burgeoning threat of a second wave of the virus.”

However, with the worst days of the pandemic apparently over and the world slowly returning to normalcy, it was announced that the 2021 edition of the carols festival will be a reality. “The Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival is set to hold its 13th edition come Friday, December 17, 2021,” an official hinted. “The event, which is an annual festival, is a night of songs and worship organized by the Akwa Ibom State Government and this year, it returns in a glorious manner at the magnificent 55,000-sq. metre Ibom Hall Arena, along Ibrahim Badamusi Babangida Avenue (IBB Avenue) in Uyo.”

The choice of this year's theme; “The Return” is both a testimony and scripturally, a revelation. Like the rest of the world, Akwa Ibom was hit by a devastating pandemic unprepared. As the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel had often said, nobody was prepared for coronavirus and no Pastor foresaw or prophesied about it. Despite all the gloomy predictions, the state came out strong with one of the lowest casualties in the country. On December 17, the Christmas Carols Festival will be returning as a testimony that the state is recovering from the rampaging impact of the pandemic. The theme of the festival is drawn from The Bible verse Isiah 51:11 (KJV), “Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away”.

The festival brings public figures, religious and community leaders, and people from all walks of life from far and wide together in worship to the Almighty God and aims to strengthen the bond of unity in Akwa Ibom State. The Carols Festival creates a spectacular worship experience and a conducive ambience for spiritual growth and peaceful co-existence. With the arrays of international gospel ministers and music groups that have performed in previous editions of the festival, Uyo, the state capital, will once again play host to an international special guest. According to the details of the event, the Senior Pastor of The Potter’s House Church, United States of America, Bishop Thomas D. Jakes will be the Officiating Minister. Bishop Jakes had even confirmed his attendance in a short pre-event clip, and this will be his first ever visit to the state.

Over the years, the festival has gotten bigger and bigger. Notably, the Udom Emmanuel administration has given priority to the spiritual side of the festival with the invitation of renowned clergymen and gospel music ministers. “Also in attendance will be the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye,” a statement on the event reveals. “The 2021 Festival will feature a predominantly Nigerian line up of renowned gospel music ministers including the legendary Panam Percy Paul, and other award winning gospel singers like Tim Godfrey, Dunsin Oyekan, Ada Ehi, Aity Dennis, Bobby Friga, David G, Ema Onyx, GUC, Progress Effiong, John Bassey, Patience Ekwere, Peace Andrew and Uduakobong Akpan Jnr.”

In 2014, the festival was awarded the Largest Group of Carol Singers in the World by the Guinness World Records. This year's edition will feature 5,000 singers from the award-winning 25,000-singer choir. “Apart from the 5,000 carol singers, other choir groups that will perform this year are the host choir, the Akwa Ibom State Government Choir, The Promised-Land Chorale Int’l, Intenxity and Ibom Ochestra. Another special appearance and the only non-Nigerian performer will be the multi-award winning South African DJ and musician, Master KG,” the statement further stated.

Ibom Hall Arena, the venue for the festival, holds a much bigger space - a seating capacity of over 40,000, a larger parking space and many pedestrian and car exits to grant the routinely increasing number of worshippers, who attend the festival, safe and effortless access to the arena. This will be the biggest religious gathering in the state in the post-pandemic time, and like the previous years, Akwa Ibom people and indeed, Christians across the country, are very eager to relive that feeling that only the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival gives. It is The Return.

Oladipipo Yusuf Olaseni: A Serial Entrepreneur Sleeker Than Your Average

For years, the famous quote, “The youth of today are the leaders tomorrow” by late Nelson Mandela, civil rights leader in South Africa, have been misconstrued by societies - especially in Africa to mean that the youth population are expected to take passive stances when it comes to leadership, participatory politics and all-round contribution to society, until a certain undetermined period in their lives, vaguely referred to as ‘the future’.

However, with the emergence of unconventionally futurist and effervescent young Africans like Nigeria based South African Businessman Oladipipo Yusuf Olaseni, who is fast becoming a model and prototype for entrepreneurial astuteness and leadership, the late Madiba’s word on the marble can now be best put in perspective.

Describe Yusuf Olaseni as a serial entrepreneur, and you would have captured the multi-sector investor and player aptly. His company Goalsbam Ventures, with a net worth conservatively pegged in Billions of Naira in net worth is registered in Nigeria, South Africa and Canada, as an export company, dealing primarily in the exportation of Nigerian food stuffs in containers to South Africa. He has several outlets in the country where these commodities are sold.

Olaseni’s other business interests include real estate both in Nigeria, South Africa and a travel management company . Olaseni is also a stakeholder in the beauty and fashion industry, with several outlets across South Africa.

Until 2007, when he moved to South Africa on business sojourn, Yusuf Olaseni, a Lagosian both by birth and origin had lived his formative years in cities across Lagos.

Born to an ishagira, (Ojo local government) Awori father, and a mother from Ikorodu both in Lagos, Yusuf had studied Ticketing and Reservation at Anis International School of Aviation, in Lagos, and also bagged a degree in Public Administration from the prestigious University of Lagos. He traveled to South Africa for the first time in 2006 for INDABA, a tourism conference in Durban.

The following year, Yusuf had attended the next edition of INDABA, after which he decided to remain in South Africa, where he lived until 2017.

Based on that exposure he had as a tourist, he set up a complete travel and ticketing agency then known as OlaMayo Limited fully registered in South Africa, in less than 2years of operation, it became a success story. Olaseni’s restlessness in his desire to conquer the business world based on trading exposure to his mother’s experience and practice made him to venture into commodity trading, importing highly demanded food stuffs from Nigeria to South Africa.

Olaseni's propensity to build structures and reinvent himself as a leader is proven, since he relocated back to Nigeria in 2017, his businesses has continued to thrive organically, his absence notwithstanding.

Recounting his days of humble beginning in Lagos, Nigeria, Olaseni hinted how challenging it was living through cities like Ajegunle, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikorodu and Alimosho, which is his primary constituency.

In his words, “people merely survive in Nigeria, day-to-day life in Lagos is quite challenging, I did not realize that until I began travelling, to experience other cultures and climes.

"Give it to Nigerians. Comparing life in Nigeria to some of the cities i have traveled to around the world, I'll say it is more hectic here. The average child that goes to school and graduates here in Nigeria must be really determined. And that is my story, I can identify with that. Our education, health and other core sectors are not as well structured as what is obtainable in developed countries globally. When the basic amenities are provided, it makes life easier for citizens. However, there are abilities in disabilities. Anyone that can survive Nigeria can live through anywhere else in the world,” Yusuf Olaseni posited.

So far, the well-travelled businessman has travelled to not less than 19 countries across different continents. Some of which are the US, Canada, UK, UAE, Turkey, Belgium, France, Holland, Singapore, Kenya and Ethiopia.

Yusuf Olaseni thinks of himself as privileged to be where he is today, even though he did not grow with a silver-spoon. He grew up with his mother, a trader in raw food stuff, and a one-time distributor of Dangote and BUA products in Daleko Market Mushin. Yusuf’s mother travelled during his early years, and that inversely affected his schooling, seeing him constantly changing primary schools at the time, depending on their location.

Although he started importation business on a small scale, Yusuf recounted how he added investment to scale up his importation business. According to him, the property he inherited from his late father was sold, and the money amount to six million naira, which was supposed to be shared between himself and his elder brother, was invested in his importation business. This was with his elder brother’s permission.

Married to a South African lady who runs a fashion business, Olaseni revealed that he decided to invest the fashion industry in South Africa, after his wife complained about certain challenges her business was experiencing, and he had stepped in to offer consultative services, only to realize how much of a goldmine was in that industry. He saw opportunities, and diversified to fashion, including owning a chain of stores across major cities in South Africa.

A great player in philanthropy activities, youth empowerment in South Africa , taking Nigerian youths out of the street and empowering them. He is also respected for inicitating dialogue that reduces xenophobic attack in Nelspruit, one of the safest city for Nigerians to live in South Africa due to his constructive dialogue with the locals. He was part of the founders of the Egbe Omo Yoruba Association in South Africa.

Olaseni is passionate about his people back in Nigeria, and what concerns them. Olaseni admitted to being interested in politics since that’s the most assured way to be of service to the people on a large scale.

As a pragmatic personality, Olaseni is a stunch believer in the ideology that if you don't remain laid-back, nothing changes, as such, he is willing to be the change he wants to see.

Olaseni says he attends congresses of All Progressive Congress just to see and understand how things are being done and actively participate at ward and local government levels.

"If we don't get involved in how decisions are being made, we do not have a choice, we will have to live with the choices others make for us. It is binding on us," he submitted.

Olaseni's understanding of this, and passion for his people are is propellants. He is interested in contributing to the legislation of policies that affects his people, drawing from his widely acquired experiences globally.
