Boko Haram militants struck a police and army barracks today on Bama and Bankai in Borno state killing several police officers and civilians.

The army claimed the attack on their barack in Bama was repelled by soldiers guarding the facility.

Eyewitnesses said the militants riding in Hilux pick up truck did extensive damage with rocket propelled grenades and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

JTF spokesperson told Saharareporters they are yet to fully assess the damage and cannot speak on the level of casualties at this point.

U are discussing amnesty which will run into billions to settle some Islamic animals who are supposed to be slaughtered on sight. Meanwhile­ the wounds of their victims can never be healed. Many of them has been sent backwards financially and Jonathan is planning amnesty to their nightmare. I don't know how u got urself to aso rock but u must know many Nigerians are not happy with u. I for one, I wish am not a Nigerian mainly because of ur weaknesses. U should have been transparent enuf to reject the burden of presiding over 160,000,000 people. In 2011, u said u wore no shoe and carried ur book on ur hands. But now ur kids are wearing designers shoes and bags and u have sent the ordinary man's child back to ur own days of no shoe, no school bags. They say u are a humble man and I know the diff btwn humble, dull, weak and lukewarm. And ur attitude towards this nation's plight is called weaknesses ganished with dullness. Then add the number of those persons who died during several massacres in diff states and locations, don't forget those youth corpers who died during 2011 election. The presidency has described the former Head of State and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), as the major sponsor of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram and a leading protagonist of violence.

It said that apart from his ambition to rule the country again, Buhari had refused to contribute meaningfully to actions capable of ending insecurity in the country. Buhari, a National Leader of the CPC, had, on the Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation on Monday, said that the Federal Government should be blamed for the lingering security challenges in the country.

According to Punch Newspaper, Buhari also flayed the Goodluck Jonathan administration for what he called “poor handling of insurgency” that had led to the death of many Nigerians and destruction of properties. While reacting to this, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said it was unfortunate that such a statement could emanate from Buhari. Describing Buhari as a man he respects so much, Okupe added that he had no option but to reply to his accusations against the Federal Government and the President.

He reminded Nigerians that Buhari had previously been credited with a statement that he would make the country ungovernable if the last presidential election did not favour him. Okupe said, “Everybody in this country knows that it was Buhari who vowed that if he did not win the election, he would make the country ungovernable for this President Goodluck Jonathan. It was this same Buhari who said during the electioneering period that if the votes were counted and he lost, people should go for blood.

He is not in any position to apportion blame on the issue of violence in the North or in Nigeria in general. He is a protagonist of violence. The only solution he sees to his not being President is to call for violence. This government has tried to contain some of the repercussions of the unguarded statements made by Buhari and I don’t think anybody in Nigeria will take him seriously on this allegation.”

The presidential aide added that if there were those to be blamed for the insecurity in the country, the name of Buhari should top the list. Okupe wondered why the Katsina State-born general had refused to visit states like Borno and Yobe despite the fact that he hails from the northern part of the country.
He said, “As a former Head of State, have you ever seen him (Buhari) visiting Borno or Yobe States? Have you ever seen him show sympathy to people, either Christians or Muslims that have been killed during these attacks by Boko Haram? Have you see him as a leader, a man who traversed the entire length and breadth of the North especially to canvass for votes seeking an end to the violence? Why is it that he cannot use that same clout that he has to get leaders together and say we must put an end to this carnage? He finds it comfortable to shift the blame to other people.

What has he done as a leader, who is from that region to help Nigeria and the North out of this unfortunate development? Nigerians should ask him, as a former Head of State and stakeholder in the Nigeria project and a man who wants to be President again, if he would want Nigeria to be destroyed up to a point before he can try to wade in? It does not work that way.”

Okupe said that as a leader, Buhari should stop apportioning blame, but should do something crucial to bring the carnage in the country under control.

He reminded the former military ruler that during the crisis in Niger Delta, leaders from the region went into the creeks and discussed with the militants to lay down theirarms. “Has Buhari done that? When Christians were killed, he kept quiet, when mosques were bombed, he did not say anything. He doesn’t have any other interest in Nigeria but his inordinate ambition to rule,” he added.

In his reaction, Buhari said there was no way he could be involved in the discussion on how to end the carnage since he was not part of the problem. Buhari, who spoke through the National Publicity Secretary of the CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, also said it was apparent that those responsible for the crisis in the Niger Delta were the ones that volunteered to end it.
He said, “When the Niger Delta militancy reached a crescendo, some notable people from that region went into the creeks as he (Okupe) alleged. The question is: ‘Who were the people who started the Niger Delta imbroglio ab initio?’ If the people that initiated and executed a problem decided to resolve it, what can anyone do about it? This is totally different from the Boko Haram palaver.”

IF this Friday’s meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, ends in a deadlock, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) has mandated its leadership to immediately declare a nationwide strike in universities across the country.

The union is demanding that the Federal Government pay the Earned Allowance owed its members, set aside the NEEDS Assesement Report on the university education system submitted to the government and address the issues of payroll and personnel information system.

SSANU President, Comrade Samson Ugwoke, disclosed this at the weekend while addressing newsmen at the end of the union’s NEC meeting held at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo State.

He explained that the varsity workers would have no choice but to be forced into another protracted nationwide strike anytime from now, adding that other sister unions in the universities, namely the National Association of Academic Technology, (NAAT) and the Non Academic Staff of Universities and other allied institution(NASU), operating under the Joint Action Committee (JAC), had also been alerted to go on strike if the meetings fails to resolve the issues.

Ugwoke said the unions had delayed the strike following the intervention of the House of Representatives, which advised the executive to raise a supplementary budget to cover the payment of the allowances.

“All the unions at JAC, SSANU, NASU and NAAT were together at a meeting on the invitation of House Committee on Education. The committee invited us and a motion of urgent importance moved by Alhaji Bashir of Ngogo Federal Constituency in Kano on the looming strike in the university sector due to non-payment of Earned Allowance; NEEDS Assessement Report, and the IPC implementation, that is Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, which the Federal Government wants to embark on.

“Our meeting with them was very robust, interesting and successful. At the end, and as regards the NEEDS Assessement, IPC and Earned Allowance, the House suggested that the executive should raise a Supplementary Budget covering the Earned Allowance.

“To our surprise, the National University Commission (NUC) decided to write that it will take N157 billion. We said it is not true, IMC did not say it will take N157 billion to pay. How they came about that figure by Chief Babalakin was not clear to us. We were not taken along because when we met last, the position was that the non-teaching staff will go with Babalakin to the House Committee onEducation and the Senate Committee on Education and present the amount that will cover the four years arrears of Earned Allowance, including the 2013 aspect of the allowances in the 2013 budget.”

A randy husband Edwin (surname withheld) at the Junior Staff Quarters, Asaba, Delta State, has put his wife's bosom in the family way three months after wedding.


Reports said Edwin's wife on Thursday last week moved out of her matrimonial home when it was confirmed by the husband's personal doctor that her friend was pregnant for her husband.

Edwin's wife and her friend, were course mates at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ill- Efe, where Edwin, who was then doing his youth service in the area, met her.

It was gathered that, Nneka, as she was identified, made herself useful to her newly married friend who had become pregnant, a situation she allegedly took advantage of by making herself useful in home chores and helping to prepare meals for the man, who is reportedly a senior banker in one of the new generation banks.

The victim, who did not want her name in print, said: "I never knew there was something fishy as I was not suspecting my best friend. But there was a day she told me she was going to check her parents in Ibadan. A day after she left, my husband told me he was billed for an official assignment in Lagos, and would not be back in four days time. My husband returned to Asaba about the same time Nneka came back from her Ibadan trip.

"Two months later, a lady in our estate called me and asked if I observed that Nneka was pregnant. I called her one day to ask her. She opened up, telling me she had actually wanted to tell me but do not know how to approach the matter.

"It was then she opened up, telling that it was the time she traveled to Ibadan, my husband came to meet her and they both slept together for four days."
