Firefighters from the Kwara State Fire Brigade successfully averted a major disaster at Aasco Petrol station along Ajase-Ipo highway in Ilorin, Ilorin West Local Government of the state capital on Saturday.

The incident occurred at about 17:57 hours, according to the spokesman of the fire service, Hassan Adekunle in Ilorin on Saturday.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the fire crew encountered a severe and rapidly spreading fire at the Aasco filling station along Ajase-Ipo Road, Ilorin.

“The firemen immediately commenced firefighting operations to contain the inferno and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the filling station.
“Despite the scale of the disaster, the firemen who demonstrated their expertise and skill, successfully controlled and extinguished the fire with their knowledge and prowess in firefighting techniques,” he added.

He disclosed that investigation into the cause of the inferno revealed that a spark emitted from a Dyna truck with registration number LEM115XB ignited the flammable liquid, leading to the fire outbreak.

“This unfortunate incident resulted in substantial damage to the Dyna truck and a bus.

“However, thanks to the swift and coordinated response of the firemen and the support of relevant authorities; the fire was brought under control, limiting further potential damage to the facility and surrounding areas,” he further stated.

Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged the general public to always play safe, especially during this period and not to hesitate to call fire brigade on time whenever there is any fire emergency in their areas.

Hon. Sani Muhammad Takori, a former member of the House of Representatives, who represented Bukkuyum/ Gummi federal constituency in Zamfara State, has revealed that if Wike defects to the All Progressives Congress, APC, he will be frustrated and humiliated.

Takori advised that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Wike, should think twice.

Speaking with newsmen in Gusau, the State capital, Takori said that when Abdulahi Adamu came on board as the APC national chairman, he was frustrated by the powers that be.

According to him, since 27 Rivers State lawmakers who are his loyalists have defected, there is every indication that Wike will also defect to the APC, “but he will regret it at last.”
Takori further stated that “if the 27 State lawmakers later decide to reject godfatherism, then Wike will be on his own”.

He lamented that the minister has created serious political tension in Rivers State.

“Though the APC leaders are wooing him to defect to the party, even promised to make him the leader of the party in his State, but if he defects, sorry will be his second name.

“If Wike defects to APC, he will meet his equals with different characters; if he is a betrayer, he will see betrayers, and if he is wicked, he will also meet more wicked people than himself,” he added.

Actor Christian Keyes has disclosed that he was sexually harassed by a powerful figure in Hollywood for years.

The actor, known for his roles in popular BET TV shows and movies, took to social media to share his personal experience with sexual harassment.

He detailed the traumatic encounters and expressed his determination to stand up against such behavior.

Though he declined to name the person, he revealed he has evidences, including recordings, and will release them in due time.
Keyes said: “This person was sexually harassing me for years.

“He was claiming he had multiple young Black men on payroll and they just had to show up when he requested them to be there. Clearly, that’s why he felt it was okay to say these things.”

A set of conjoined twins, fused at the lower chest and abdomen (thoraco omphalopagus), were delivered today, 5th October 2023, at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja at an estimated gestational age of 33 weeks and 6 days.
The pregnancy was spontaneously conceived and the mother had received antenatal care at a private hospital where the diagnosis was made by ultrasound scan prior to her referral to LASUTH.
A Magnetic Resonance Imaging done at the BT Diagnostic Centre in LASUTH further confirmed the diagnosis.
A multidisciplinary team of Radiologists, Neonatologists, Obstetricians, Paediatricians, Paediatric Surgeons, Cardiothoracic Surgeons and Anaesthetists evaluated the case and agreed to proceed with the delivery.
The conjoined female babies were delivered at 8:26am with good APGAR Scores and a combined birth weight of 3.8kg.
Babies are stable in the Special Care Baby Unit of the of Ayinke House. Further evaluation will be carried out by the multidisciplinary team and subsequent management will depend on the investigation findings.
The mother is currently stable on the Postnatal Ward.

Twenty-six suspects have been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for various crimes such as kidnapping and cultism in the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, who made the statement in the Lafia area of the state, said two victims recently abducted by suspected kidnappers were also rescued.



Parading the suspects on Wednesday, Nansel said policemen, while acting on credible intelligence, stormed the kidnappers’ hideouts and arrested them.

He said, “Based on credible intelligence, on May 23, 2023, around 4pm, a team of Mobile Policemen attached to Operation Restore Peace, stormed a kidnappers’ hideout located at Ambaka village of Farin Ruwa Development Area in the Wamba LGA of the state.

“They were able to rescue two kidnap victims who had been held hostage for some time, and arrested five kidnappers: Sale Adamu, 34, Idi Halilu, 27, Abdul Sale, 20, Mallam Gambo, 48, and Goma Halilu, 20, all males of Ambaka village. The suspects have confessed to being responsible for a series of kidnappings at Ambaka village and environs.”

A Kenyan woman accused of maliciously damaging her boyfriend's car, by hitting a windscreen, and his television, all valued at Sh235, 605, has been charged to court.
Imelda Mwendwa Kigunda was charged before Kibera Principal Magistrate Renee Kitagwa on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, where she denied the charges.

The court heard that she committed the offence on January 18, 2023, at Gemini Club, Nairobi county, contrary to the law.

All the items belonged to Vincent Alata, who is the complainant in the case.

According to the court papers, the two had heated arguments over some cheating allegations which led to the said offence.

In court, the accused person through her lawyer Brian Mwenda pleaded with the court for a lenient bond term release.

Mwenda told the court that his client was a law-abiding citizen and was not a flight risk.

He told the court to supply her with all the documentary evidence that the prosecutions intended to rely on during the entire trial.

A special prayer was held at the Eid mosque in Gusau, Zamfara state capital, by civil servants in the state over non-payment of their salaries by the government.

Daily Trust reported that they converged at the mosque around 10am on Saturday, May 13, to seek divine intervention for payment of their salaries.
They revealed that they were last paid in January and are now finding it difficult to meet up with their needs. One of the civil servants said;

Umbrella body of the telcom companies in the country, the Association of Licensed Telecom Operators in Nigeria (ALTON) has announced that they've withdrawn USSD services it provides to Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) over N120b debt.

ALagos-based lawyer, Festus Ogun, has asked the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, to obey the court order that committed him to prison.

Ogun said nobody was above the law, especially public officers who swore oaths of allegiance to defend and uphold the Constitution.

The EFCC Chairman, Bawa, was convicted by a Federal High Court in Abuja over contempt of court, and was subsequently sentenced to the Kuje Correction Centre in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The EFCC, through its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, had since said it would appeal the ruling.

Reacting in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday, the lawyer, Ogun, said Bawa “should immediately submit himself to officers at the Kuje Correctional Centre following his conviction for contempt and gross disobedience to court orders by my Lord, Hon Justice Chizoba Oji of the Federal Capital Territory High Court.”

He noted that the EFCC Chairman “failed, refused and neglected to obey a four-year-old order of the court directing the commission to return to an applicant, his Range Rover (super charge) and the sum of N40 million.

Indeed, the court has spoken loud and clear that impunity cannot have a place in this country.”

“The EFCC Chairman cannot continue to act as though he is above the law. In a democracy, orders of court are meant to be immediately obeyed, especially by public office holders who swore oaths to defend and uphold the Constitution. Our tottering democracy is endangered when court orders are disrespected,” he said.

The lawyer said the EFCC should not just appeal the ruling but should first and immediately obey the court order.

“It is not enough to file a notice of appeal. The court order must first be immediately complied with because merely filing an appeal does not automatically guarantee a stay of execution. Alternatively, he should immediately comply with the court orders and apologise for his misconduct.

“If what we practice is indeed a democracy, then, we must play by its rules. The only way to enjoy relative sanity is for the rule of law to reign supreme. Both the low and mighty must bow before the law. There must be consequences for this gross impunity with the hope that others will learn from this,” Ogun added.

Spokesperson for the Atiku-Okowa People's Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization, Kola Ologbondiyan, has expressed confidence that most Nigerians who have since realized the error of voting for the All Progressives Congress, will vote for the PDP come February, 2023.

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, on Thursday, assured the National Assembly's joint committees on aviation of the completion of the second Abuja International Airport Runway before the exit of the current regime.

Speaking during an oversight visit to the airport by the joint committees of the Senate and House of Representatives led by Senator Abiodun Olujimi and Honorable Nnolim Nnaji, Sirika promised the N92bn worth runway would be ready before the end of 2023.

The Minister, who conducted members of the committees of the two chambers of the National Assembly round the ongoing projects at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, disclosed that the contractor for the second runway, Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company, had been fully mobilized.

The Abia State Government said 21 people have died from flooding in communities across the state.

Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Sunday Jackson, confirmed the figure on Friday.

Jackson spoke during the distribution of relief materials to some victims by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The official recalled that Abia was one of the 32 states predicted by the Nigeria Hydrological Services to suffer flood.

The SEMA chief said the state recorded flooding in 16 of the 17 local government areas.

Two persons have been killed and 13 abducted in Mamman Suka community of Gwadabawa local council of Sokoto State.

Bandits reportedly attacked the community at the weekend and opened fire on the residents.

The community has been frequently attacked by gunmen, who kidnap for ransom and rustle livestock, among sundry crimes.

The incident, according to reports, has left many residents in fear, with some contemplating leaving the community.

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two teenagers for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl and recording the act on their phones.

The two friends, after raping the victim, were said to have sent the video of the sexual act to another friend, who demanded s3x from the girl so as not to upload the film on social media.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adewale Osifeso, said in a statement on Tuesday night that the three friends were among 30 suspected criminals arrested by the command.

The statement read, “On the October 24, 2022 at about 12pm, the victim, (name withheld) ‘f’ 17yrs visited her friend Joshua Adegoke ‘m’ age 18 years at his residence where she met one Peter Akintunde ‘m’, age 18 years.

“At Joshua’s place, she was given a bottle of soft drink after which she was invited to his room for sex an offer which she declined. In a bid to salvage what she sensed was becoming a trouble, she innocently asked Peter, Joshua’s friend to prevail on his friend but instead Peter advised her to offer Joshua what he demanded.

“At this point, both friends took turns to forcefully and unlawfully have carnal knowledge of their victim while simultaneously recording the act. After this, Joshua deliberately transferred the video footage to another friend, one Oluwanjoba Adetona, who also reached out to the victim demanding for sex in exchange for not uploading the footage on social media.
“The suspects have voluntarily confessed to the crime and are helping with the investigation.”

Apart from the three suspects, the PPRO also said 27 other suspects were arrested for various criminal activities including kidnapping, robbery and others.

A locally made pistol was said to have been recovered while ammunitions were also recovered by the police.

The statement further read, “In the same vein, the command’s focus shall be beamed on correctional facilities, banks, media houses, schools, public infrastructures, major landmarks, business districts, places of worship and recreational facilities.

The Director of Communications for the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Momodu, gave his reasons for opposing the candidacy of the All Progressives Congress standard bearer, Bola Tinubu.

Momodu in a statement on Tuesday said he loved ‘the man Tinubu’ but disagreed with ‘Tinubu the politician’.

He claimed that Tinubu had declined over the years, adding that he was no longer a man of his people, and that his allies could not tell him this “truth” for pecuniary gains.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and some elderstatemen in the state, Minda Leaders of Thoughts, have withdrawn their support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar over alleged hate speech and profiling of Benue people.

Ortom accused the PDP candidate of dishonoring him as Governor and working against the interest of Benue residents.

Ortom’s rejection was triggered by Atiku’s alleged comments on the recent killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue state.

The governor allegedly claimed Atiku is working with Miyetti Allah.

Speaking on Tuesday at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Makurdi, Ortom said, “It was not correct for a presidential candidate who is seeking to rule the people to say that kind of thing.

“It was very wrong. And it would appear that he doesn’t even reference me and consider me to be a governor of my state.”

Ortom also said Atiku had sidelined him in selecting his presidential campaign team.

The president of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Maikyau, has said help was underway for the members of the association who were affected by the recent flood incidents across the country.

He made this known in a letter addressed to the 125 branches of the NBA, on Monday, which was obtained by our correspondent.

Maikyau sympathised with Nigerians and NBA members, and “directed the chairmen of the 125 branches to compile the list of NBA members directly affected by the flood so that NBA can offer some help and bring succour to them and their families.”

The Department of State Services has urged Nigerians to stay alert and assist security agencies with information on suspicious criminals in their neighborhoods.

This is coming after the United States of America Embassy in Nigeria issued an Advisory to its citizens on terrorists’ plan to carry out attacks in some parts of the country.

The US in the advisory asked its citizens to avoid all non-essential travel or movement as a result of an ‘elevated risk of terror attacks in Nigeria, especially Abuja.

The DSS Public Relations Officer Department of State Services, National Headquarters, Peter Afunanya in a statement late Sunday night urged Nigerians to remain calm, adding that necessary actions have been taken to prevent such an attack from happening.

It read, “The Department of State Services has received several enquiries relating to the security advisory issued by the US Embassy in Abuja, today, 23/10/22. The public may recall that the Service had variously issued similar warnings in the past.

Asmall plane from Mexico with five German nationals on board disappeared off Costa Rica on Friday, Public Security Minister Jorge Torres announced.

“We have received an alert concerning a plane, a private flight from Mexico to the airport” in the eastern province of Limon, the minister said.

“This aircraft was carrying five passengers of German nationality,” Torres said in a video message released by his ministry.

“The aircraft lost communication with the control tower near La Barra de Parismina in the Costa Rican Caribbean and we immediately activated the internal protocol” to locate it, the official said.

He added that the plane disappeared at 6:00 pm (Saturday 0000 GMT).

After a few hours, the search was suspended due to nightfall and “bad weather” and would resume on Saturday, the minister said.
