How it started
The decision to embark started June/July 2017; my family looked at the economic situation, and thought, with these bunch of jokers in Govt, it is best to have a plan B.
We are average income earners, so my wife and I had to combine funds to make POF. For a family of 4, we pooled the needed POF.

Passport
Passport for family done around Feb, 2018.

IELTS
Wifey and I wrote, around Nov 2018. As at then, i didnt really know you had to score Listening with 8, and writing, minimum of 7; but one thing with me in the exam hall was a mindset, that i am not wasting 75k to write this exam twice. So i died there, and made the needed mark.
I used Liz, you tube some other tutors i can’t recall their names now, even bought the past question for 5k or so from british council.
Tips- try watch you tube videos, and practice reading, speaking. Also try write some essays before the exam day.
The writing exam has a formula, do yourself a favor and follow the formula; please, simply follow the formula.
I recommend, Jay and Liz. Watch their vidoes. Thats all.

Sadly, wifey which I admit is academically smarter than me, had to write this exam three times, but still couldn’t make the writing and in one case the listening. Thus I ended up being the principal applicant. We planned her being the principal applicant because she was younger, and also since her brother is in ONTARIO, so we could claim 15 points.

ECA--WES
Looking back now, I suggest you begin this part first because it takes a whole lot of time. Your IELTS results can be ready within two weeks, but your ECA report cannot. Ours took like 5 months.
We did ours during the compulsory WAEC requirement; started around Nov 2018 and got it around Feb 2019. By then I had already lost 5 points due to age, so I ended up going the Ontario provincial nominee route-will explain this later.
Tip*If you have a BSC and MSC, I suggest you evaluate both, as you will never know when it will become handy. Infact, you might still need the Bsc certificate you didn’t evaluate. I agree its time consuming, but since it costs same amount of money, why not just do it.
Wife also had Msc which she evaluated alone, but looking back now, she preferred to had evaluated both Bsc and Msc.

ONTARIO PROVINCIAL NOMINEE(OINP)
My spouse and I initially planned for express entry but as I stated earlier, since WES report couldn’t come on time, and because wifey didn’t pass IELTS, we had to embrace the OINP offer when it came up- it costs us more, by like N420K or so, but happy we took it the offer looking back now.
This was another experience on its own, the documentations, waiting and all that, but glad it came out fine, and I went straight to receive our 600 points.
The OINP was quite tasking, didn’t know anyone having done it before, so I had to study, read, and read a lot of information so I could get it right.

MEDICALS
Nothing serious, spent whole day; wifey had protein, and had to redo the test, which came out fine.

GENERAL TIPS
Keep your application simple. Very simple. I recall that my Letter of Explanation was just one page.
I explained on proof of funds with 3 lines; explained on work experience with few lines- used to work in now defunct Intercontinental Bank, now acquired by ACCESS Bank. I didn’t claim point from this but since it was in my work history, I thought I should explain.
Keep your Linked in profile up to date, and let it reflect the information you provided in your work history.
Delete your browsing history, delete your Nairaland account if you have had unpleasant profile online before- by unpleasant, i mean if you were someone like …LOL!!!

Work experience- take your time and identify your correct NOC code- work with your HR to prepare this letter in approved format.
Proof of Fund- Be very detailed and show proof of your income while working.
Our POF was Tbills, with Stanbic IBTC, which was quite straightforward.
Above all, pray, and keep your mind at ease. Don’t be shady, don’t forge, don’t hide anything, these guys will find a way of knowing.
I recall during OINP application, I mistakenly missed like 2 pages of my passport while scanning- these guys had to give me ADR to rescan again.
This is my way of giving back to this community. I hope it helps someone out there.
We are still waiting, due to COVID-19; But we know tomorrow holds a good gift for us.
