I just lost an area senior bros this morning, the news didn't come as shock cos he has been in the hospital for a while and his BP refused to come down.

He is man in his late 40's married with 4 kids. This man was under alot of pressure to meet end means, he took up too many loans just to maintain his living standards to please his family.

The last time I visited him in general I also checked my BP and it was very high, I was also under pressure myself to meet target.
When I got home I promised myself I wont die young to please anyone.

During my NYSC my PPA was a local government in ilesa.

Luckily my landlord was an high chief in ilesa and the man really liked me.
One particular day the man needed me to help him text some messages on his phone on getting to his apartment his bedroom to be precise I saw alot of pictures on the wall of his youthful days with words written...NO EVENTS NO MEMORIES
In my curiosity I asked him why so much pics and that how baba downloaded history to me.

This was his take about 1966 coup cos he was a young solider then.

What lead to the coup and civil war according to him

The massacre of the Igbos in the north lead to the coup actually, when those massacre happened govt didn't really arrest or punish anyone of note.
The Igbos were aggrieved and that what lead to coup of January 15th 1966. The igbos in the military already had bad blood towards the northerners.

They made a big mistake killing leaders from other region cos the bad blood was between the igbo and hausa at that time. Assuming those boys killed only northerners he felt things won't really have gone bad.

The coup was to achieve two things

1.Pay back the north for the igbos killed. since there was no hausa to kill in the east they felt killing hausa/fulani leaders will hurt more.

2. Sieze power and avoid punishment under military rule by handing over to someone they trust won't betray them.
So everything was pre planned and Aguyi ironsi was aware from the get go.

Aguyi Ironsi was the major reason why things got bad cos he refused to do what is right and show his card to early.
Abolishing region government and failing to prosecute those who executed the Babaraic coup compounded things.

Why was it tagged igbo coup

It a fact 90% of the people who carried out the coup are Igbos and they only killed leaders in other region.
What made people tagged it Igbos coup was the body language of the igbos in general at that time.
They were unapologetic about it and was in total support of the coup claiming corrupt leaders were killed but obviously they gained more from the act of this few.
At this point trust was lost and the military was in total disarray, despite the Igbos has lot of senior officers cos they were more educated the junior officers were mostly hausa hence why the next coup was easy.
