The 2017 edition of the MTV EMA Awards is here and Wizkid and David are currently gunning for the Best African Act alongside other African artistes. From the list published today, American singer Taylor Swift leads the nominees list with a total of five nominations, including Best Video for Look What You Made Me Do. The usual suspects lead the pop category, while the Best Hip Hop category is totally dominated by male acts, which include Drake, Eminem, Future, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone. The stage is set for Nigeria to take on Zambia in a crucial World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Saturday. It’s almost a group stage final for both sides after four rounds of games that have the Super Eagles leading the log on 10 points, three clear of a resurgent Chipolopolo who surprisingly emerged as dark horses in the acclaimed Group of Death. Zambia are unsurprisingly bursting with confidence after back-to-back victories over Algeria, and are two wins away from a first ever World Cup finals appearance. They have their work cut out against the mighty Eagles who know that victory on home turf will secure a sixth World Cup ticket. Zambia are within two wins of a first World Cup appearance. Image: BBC Amid the verbal sparring and intense build-up to the tie, we take a look at some match facts and players who could prove the difference on the night. Nigeria and Zambia have met 17 times before now, with the Eagles leading the series with 7 wins, 5 draws and 5 loses. The Eagles are unbeaten in their last seven clashes with the Chipolopolo after going down 2-0 in friendly in 1997. Nigeria haven’t lost at home to Zambia, their best result a 0-0 draw in the 1986 Nations Cup qualifier in Lagos. The Eagles presently enjoy the longest World Cup qualifier unbeaten streak since losing 1-0 to Angola in 2004, a run that stretches to 34 games. With the deck stacked this way, the Eagles come into the tie as clear favourites, but Zambia have in their ranks one or two players that can upset the applecart. It’s a slightly different Zambia side since Nigeria won 2-1 at the start of qualifiers in Ndola, with star players like Rainford Kalaba, Nathan Sinkala and Collins Mbesuma all falling out with coach Wedson Nyirenda, but they since been replaced by a number of promising talents. Brian Mwila: The Platinum Stars forward came big for the Chipolopolo in their home clash against Algeria with two well-taken goals. His aerial ability and relentless style will be of concern to the Eagles. Mwila celebrates scoring against Algeria. Image: BBC Patson Daka: The new hope of Zambian football, Daka made his announcement on the big stage by grabbing the winner over Algeria in Constantine. After dazzling at this year’s U20 World Cup, the skilful 18-year-old will become a cult hero with a similar performance against Nigeria. For Nigeria, the usual suspects are in camp and are already salivating at the prospect of another World Cup appearance. Three players however, can really make the difference come matchday. Odion Ighalo: Back among the goals after a one-year international hiatus, Ighalo signalled his intent with two massive displays against Cameroon and he’s already warned that Zambia can’t ruin his World Cup dream. Victor Moses: Nigeria’s most talented player showed his worth to the side in the annihilation of the Lions. A repeat performance and the Eagles will cross the finish line without hassle. Mikel Obi: The skipper was at his orchestrating best last time out. His vision and poise may prove a different class for the Zambians. Jose Mourinho showed his softer side as he was honoured with a road named after him in his hometown of Setubal in Portugal. The Manchester United boss said he is happy there because there is no “Special One bulls**t”, and that it’s the only place in the world where he’s really grounded. Mou, 55, had the former Rua da Saude called Avenida Jose Mourinho in recognition of the Portuguese mastermind’s achievements in the beautiful game. He thanked the people of the Portuguese town for the recognition before having a slight dig at his famous nickname in England, Sun writes. “I come to Setubal because I love Setubal. Because my friends call me Ze and leave this tittle-tattle of ‘Special One’,” he said. Mou and Setubal mayor Maria Dores Meira during the event. Image: Sun “I am very grateful. I [normally] trade homage/tributes for victories and this is the only one I wouldn’t trade.” “It’s a situation a little bit strange for me, because Setubal continues to be the only city where I feel like myself, Ze, Ze Mario. “Where people treat me normally and make me feel good. Where I have made, and try to make, my profession a little extra to my essence, to who I am. I’m pure Setubalense, with all the qualities and defects. “And because of this I am grateful for this honour and it makes me emotional.” When asked if he will return to his hometown in the near future, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss got diplomatic. “I do not know what I’ll do in post-football – I’ll be following children and grandchildren – but Setubal is always our home.” The mayor of the town, Maria das Dores Meira gushed over Mou during the proceedings on the coast, saying he was a “Son of Setubal, a man of the world, a global personality” and “one of those Setubalenses who fill us with pride because he is really special, has a special talent, has special love for their land”. Mourinho is one of the most successful coaches in football having won titles in four different countries including the Champions League and Europa Cup. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday revealed that its officials in 20 states across the country were under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu during a quarterly consultative meeting with journalists in Abuja, stated that the electoral commission would continue to cooperate with the anti-graft agency in its probe of bribery allegations surrounding the 2015 general elections. Yakubu noted that at least 205 INEC officials were presently facing prosecution or investigation for allegedly receiving part of the N23 billion reportedly disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani-Alison Madueke. The INEC chairman said the commission had already informed the EFCC it could go ahead to prosecute the officials being investigated in 20 states whose details were submitted in a new report prepared by the EFCC. “Under the terms and conditions of service what we can do is to interdict them which means placing them on half salary and suspending them from work until their innocence or guilt is established. The last report covered 16 states and only last week I heard they had started prosecuting them. Safaree Samuels does not know how to keep Nicki Minaj’s name out of his mouth. In new interview on Everyday Struggle with DJ Akademiks and Joe Budden, Safaree was asked about the Cardi/Nicki situation, if Nicki is ‘sweating’ over Cardi’s success, especially with the younger rapper breaking a 19-year-old record to become the first female leading the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. And Safaree said, “100 percent.” Asked why he says so, he added, “Because I know how she is.” This allegation comes barely a week after Nicki Minaj took to her Twitter to congratulate Cardi on the record she broke, but Safaree dismisses that as optics, and his reason being that he knows Nicki well. “If you know somebody, you don’t even have to second guess or wonder,” he said. This comment has stirred major reactions on social media, with many people criticising Safaree for dragging Nicki ... https://www.olisa.tv/2017/10/nicki-minaj-feels-threatened-by-cardi-bs-success-ex-boyfriend-safaree-says-video/ |

its been 6 months since the horrific kidnapping of the chibok girls, our government obviously not doing as much as they should, kudos to all those that had been spreading the word and fighting the fight. Though am just an helpless writer i'll continue fighting this battle the only way i know how to fight it; with my pen BRING BACK OUR GIRLS My poetic lines might not be so rigid True my grammar might be laden with flaws My efforts might well seem irrelevant With the weapon I know best fight I shall Useless am I with a gun in my hand With my pen I’ll shoot till this war is won Such news to which no mother wouldn’t have wept My hands trembling from fear of man’s cruelty My heart gloomed at how still our leaders kept Your child would you’ve tend with such levity? Love for the masses that they’ve never felt Our lost girls very much a reality All we are saying is “Bring back our girls” Some ask, were they truly kidnapped or not? For no list of the lost did see the light Even if truly as said it was not Is that a reason for us not to fight? We ask would you bring back our girls or not? Into the forest we’d march if you can’t Ourselves we’re ready to “Bring back our girls” The faceless mask that could be so inhumane Such girls you’ve taken from their mother’s arm What it is you want, that you never did name Could it? Nah, boko was never haram Or for the faith you’ve brought much hurt and shame You could have let our girls write their exams Yield ‘fore it’s too late and “Bring back our girls” I’m amused you can sit and be at ease Keeping locked doors at your commitment’s knock Leaders! It’s time to fulfill your promise More we’ll need not so Jonas than Goodluck Their screem’ll torment till eternity cease Their pain and cries never to leave the rock If in the end you fail to “Bring back our girls” Never can I say I know how you feel Losing a child, that no mother can bear That bond forged from love and stronger than steel We know only that which we see and hear Whereabouts of their girls no one could tell ‘cept he who knows that in darkness and clear Appease this mothers and “Bring back our girls” Almighty God, the one and the only God of the Muslims as well as the west Your name to forever remain holy Our girls, we plead save them from the forest In he who never fails we trust wholly Here’s our best in your hands we leave the rest Assured we are that you’ll “bring back our girls”. for more visit www.penfreaks.com |
