Dear Youth, Noble Igwe isn’t your problem but your conscience. The same one you buried when you made your choice to be a fraudster under the disguise of a bad nation. Yes, the nation is bad and we won’t change things by taking a worse route that you have thrived. We are paying the price for our father’s selfish decisions. Decisions you claim has led you to your chosen path of illegality. Have you ever thought of what your choice will lead the next generation to? In case you are ignorant of your environment, if elites destroyed Nigeria yesterday and made it what it is today, while still destroying, then you are not really different from them with your choice(s). Premier League champions Chelsea have blamed the senior national team of Nigeria for the hamstring injury picked up by Victor Moses in their 1-2 loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend. The Nigerian wing-back left the pitch five minutes before the half time break and the club later confirmed that he will be out for four to six weeks with the hamstring injury. Moses, 28, played the entire duration of Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Zambia in a World Cup qualifier that sealed the Super Eagles spot at next year’s Mundial in Russia. And a source close to the player said that the Blues are angry with Nigeria for playing him the entire 90 minutes despite his complaints of a hamstring injury, Vanguard writes. “Moses was supposed to be pulled out of the game against Zambia but the injury which lead to two substitutions forced the coaches to leave him on for the entire duration of the game, which he played through the pain barrier”, the source said.Premier League champions Chelsea have blamed the senior national team of Nigeria for the hamstring injury picked up by Victor Moses in their 1-2 loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend. George Saunders has become the second American to win the Man Booker Prize, Britain’s most prestigious literary award, for his first novel, Lincoln in the Bardo. The book Lincoln in the Bardo was released in Febraury 2017, and is reportedly built around a single quasi-historical image: A year into the Civil War, the president’s son, Willie Lincoln, died of typhoid fever, prompting rumors that Abraham Lincoln would sneak into his crypt to cradle the dead body in his arms. This novel tells that story from the point of view of 166 ghosts. The chair of this year’s Booker Prize judging panel, Baroness Lola Young is quoted as saying of the winning book: “This really stood out because of its innovation — its very different styling and the way in which it paradoxically brought to life these not-quite-dead souls in this other world, “There was this juxtaposition of the very personal tragedy of Abraham Lincoln with his public life, as the person who’d really instigated the American Civil War.” Saunders is known for his satirical short stories, but Lincoln in the Bardo is his first novel. He is only the second American to ever win the Prize. Paul Beatty (2016 winner), was the first American to win the prize which was only open to citizens of the British Commonwealth up until 2014. Barely 2 weeks after suing President Muhammadu Buhari over alleged lopsided appointments to the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), senior lawyer, Dr Olisa Agbakoba SAN has again approached the Court to remove the president as petroleum minister. The senior advocate has asked the court to consider the provision of Section 138 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution which forbids the president from holding any other executive office or drawing double payments as a public official. Citing the fact that the president was not screened for the job by the Senate, Agbakoba urged the court to determine “whether by virtue of Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution, the President can hold the office of the Minister of Petroleum Resources without confirmation by the Senate of the National Assembly.” Source: https://www.olisa.tv/2017/10/agbakoba-urges-court-to-sack-buhari-as-petroleum-minister/ |
Ahead of the much anticipated October 17 date for the continuation of trial of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) group, Nnamdi Kanu, the Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has said he has no information about Kanu’s whereabouts. Kanu has not been seen in public since September 24 when members of his group had a face-off with men of the Nigerian Army as the latter carried out a show of force in Afaraukwu, Umuahia, capital of Abia state. Should Kanu fail to appear in court, his bail may be revoked and an order issued for his re-arrest. His sureties may also be forced to forfeit their bonds. While some people have held the belief that Kanu is being held hostage by security agencies, some other Nigerians are convinced Kanu is a fugitive forced to flee the country following the decision of the federal government to proscribe the IPOB. Former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, earlier announced that Kanu had fled to London through Malaysia. There is however no evidence to back the former governor’s claim. Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr Mike Okiro has debunked claims that the Lagos state acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal had been demoted by the commission. Okiro was reacting to a letter said to have been written to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, by the commission’s permanent secretary, Mr M.F. Istifanus which he (Istifanus) purportedly signed on behalf of the PSC chairman. In the letter entitled, ‘Withdrawal of Acting appointment: AP 25095 Mohimi D. Edgal and AP. 36665 Aji Ali Janga,” Istifanus stated that the PSC at its 24th plenary meeting of September 27 and 28, 2017, took a decision not to ratify the anticipatory approval of Edgal and Janga as acting commissioners of police, and had therefore reverted the officers to the substantive rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). Davido may have been vindicated following accusations that he knows what led to the deaths of his friends, especially DJ Olu. Recall that DJ Olu (real name Olugbenga Abiodun), the son of billionaire businessman Dapo Abiodun, was found dead on Saturday along with his friend who was simply identified as Chime Amaechi. After the news surfaced, Davido took to his page to mourn Olu, noting that the deceased is his friend. This news didn’t sit well with some people, because only a few days ago, another friend of Davido, Tagbo Umeike, died in a car and his corpse reportedly dumped at a Lagos hospital. Many people felt uncomfortable with the similarities of both scenarios and have since been calling out Davido as a suspected. bonechamberlain:It's the way you see it actually, the prize not being for musicians is one of the reasons why it would be very difficult for passenger to win. Guess you misunderstood me. P.S. - I really really love Passenger, and would be glad to see him win, even though I don't see it happening. Peace bro. |

If rumours are anything thing to go by, pop sensation, Shakira and husband Gerard Pique have separated after six years together. Sources in Spain say the Colombian singer initiated the move on the grounds that she could ‘no longer cope with the situation’ with her footie husband as she moves out of their home in Barcelona. “It’s something serious and she has been the one who has finally made the decision,” the source said, as per Metro. The couple have two sons together – four-year-old Milan and two-year-old Sasha – and were last spotted together in June at the wedding of Pique’s Barcelona teammate, Lionel Messi and Antonella Roccuzzo, with Shakira posting a happy snap of the pair on Instagram. bonechamberlain:Bob Dylan winning the Nobel prize for literature doesn't make it a prize for musicians, Passenger writes good music no doubt, but does he write better literature than other writers out there. And the Nobel is an award for lifetime achievement, so even if he writes better literature he's still got a long way to go. |

Neymar’s fairytale start to life in Paris Saint-Germain was punctuated by his recent spat with teammate, Edinson Cavani, over set-piece duties. The world’s most expensive player wanted to take a penalty during PSG’s 2-0 win over Lyon, but Cavani – the club’s usual penalty taker – had other ideas. In a crowded penalty area, the big Uruguayan forward said ‘not so fast’ to Neymar despite the best efforts of Dani Alves, and went ahead to take the spot-kick which was eventually saved by Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopez. The penalty incident followed an earlier scuffle over a free-kick that saw Neymar’s Brazil teammate Dani Alves snatch the ball off Cavani so his compatriot could take it. It later emerged that the two players had to be separated in the dressing room as their argument boiled over, forcing coach Unai Emery to wield the big stick. “The penalties are to be struck by a few players, one is Cavani and the other is Neymar,” he said. “I think both are able to score them, and I want the two to alternate in this exercise.” The matter appears settled pro tem, as Neymar scored from the spot in PSG’s 6-2 bashing of Bordeaux last weekend, but with Cavani reportedly having a clause in his contract that awards him an extra €1million bonus if he emerged as the club’s top goal scorer at the end of the season, we may have to keep our fingers cro... Kazuo Ishiguro has been announced as the winner of the 2017 Nobel Prize in Literature. According to Guardian, the Japanese-British novelist has been praised by the Swedish Academy for his “novels of great emotional force”, and the academy added that Ishiguro’s works “uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world”. This unprecedented announcement came at a time when booksellers predicted names like Margaret Atwood, Ngugi Wa Thiong’o and Haruki Murakami. However, Ishiguro’s surprising and satisfying win comes a year after Bob Dylan won the prize and stirred major controversy and conversations on forms of literature. Ishiguro’s books include Booker Prize winning title Never Let Me Go and The Remains of the Day. The Academy, described these works as “marked by a carefully restrained mode of expression, independent of whatever events are taking place”. In his phone chat with BBC, the writer called the award a “magnificent honour, mainly because it means that I’m in the footsteps of the greatest authors that have lived”.
