I really felt good reading through your analysis of my "simplified idea". I quite agree with you that you felt there is a message but was not just properly communicated. Writing as well as speaking is artistic in nature and the positive thing about it is that the simpler the better.

Talking about my style of writing- the "Forcing-Guy" thing as your naija pal tagged it, it is a variance away from the regular. If you see it otherwise you would be wrong. It is nothing "forceful" for me or similar writers to express ourselves with ease in that style you referred to as "complex and confusing". I personally love to write so simple as possible yet I cannot attain such style in a day. If it sounds like excuse please compare the books of the likes of Bishop Oyedepo with Pastor Adeboyes'- I hope you are familiar with that even a reference from their manner of speaking.

Now to your point on the article intellectual stand-point, it is not a rule in any article writing or any other communication to define a subject except you need to constrain it to a particular field or if it will create any semantic problem. "Artistic creativity"
as you suggested will constrain the subject as the idea is not limited to it. The later part of my paragraph 1 says it cover pre to post-production.

Secondly, you said " Every movie is someone else message be it creative or not" that objects my view that it's not just creative movie that is someone's message.
What I said a creative movie should deliver is " a valuable content and believable
scenery" and once that is not there it cannot be tagged a "MESSAGE". Bad movie is someone else confusion not message. A message is a communication for a desired effect not noise. A farmer work hard to make a vineyard; that is what a message meant(deliberate result) but weeds just grows by all forms of pollination and even if it becomes a jungle it does not give makes it a vineyard; it's a confusion. It is a creative movie that delivers a message and it's not from aliens, it's someone else's.

Other things you highlight as confusing to you are not worth discussing, truly you can employ other people to rationalise it for you. I'm really amazed by your queries on many different highlights. I doubt if you understood movie making in practical term. There are tonnes of equipment that are not available in the country for making some creative movie not all. The fact that cheap projects are quickly delivered is also hard to digest by you is awful -a "sincerely blunder". Everything on this topic are my personal years of experience on the job not wishful thoughts.

In life there many things beyond our reach that limits our creative flow. Every independent factor that contribute to movie production seldom conflict themselves thereby killing the creative seed in it.

The picture of what is commercially profitable is the major concern of a marketing sponsor even to the detriment of peeling of the creative skin from such movie.

The current trend in production/market relating to genre/style is always as the "national cake", the way to go. Every film maker focus on the same filming style, stories, genre or style.

The attraction to sponsorship or partnership makes the movie water-down any challenging idea as it pose a threat of losing face before the "money-man".

The less burdensome to produce which means shorter time frame and not rigorous detail to cover means jolly work for directors, actors and all production team. It is always possible to see people doing the short-cut thing which waters down on creative purpose.


A less expensive project is easily implemented, conveniently marketed and more of such means volume. So many have tonnes of movie to their credit but most of it were just the averages.

If it is technically possible within local range then you are safe you have a job. Creative movie could require special equipment and expertise abroad.


It must be a regular or our acclaimed brand/artistic style, every production outfit have a signature that just 'templates' their movies around us here. It is highly disappointing.


As long as it does not take control away to others for expertise is the biggest monster that devour creativity. The boss style with no creative fibre is phenomena, you will marvel.


These are the blockage to the cross-road of movie creativity today. Indeed most of us are victims and we hope for a change.

All these are also matters of interest that influence the movie industry and are eating into the dreams of producing blockbusters.

To create an all round 7-star and multi-award movie all issue of creativity must factor in, in no little measures but with equal importance. In the business of making good cash, name and building reputation or brand majority of film makers cannot beat their chest to have done justice.

Let us start by seeing movie editing as the final stage of interpreting a movie scene in most cases.

Editing in our context will be basically non-linear; whereby software application(s) and accompany hardware(mostly computer system) are used to simulate footages(recorded audiovisual & images) to desired result.

The wide choice of application software, computer hardware and other proprietary hardware sophistication may vary according to requirements.

Many will say the secret is with a good editor but I will say "NO". Rating the skill of a good editor, his expertise can be benchmark with his years of experience, volumes of job done, value of project executed and physical assessment of work-done. The secret of good editing is not simply with the "grey-hair" editor nor with the most advance editing suite the world can ever produced. This is because there have been tonnes of nicely edited work that has no appeal instead the footage would have better not edited at all.

We will take our mind away from cut and paste traditional editing and far off from effect loaded modern editing style. The problem of most editor is never skill, gadget or software hassle but the director coordinating edit.

Editors are mostly solo-thinkers, they love working without interruptions. They prefer the all necessary instruction to be given at once and be left alone to do the "magic". The director on the contrary is always desperate on the job and that always conflict.

Due to this problem, there are always two type of edit environment for director. The "My Edit" and "your edit"; this is the secret of Movie editing.

Permit me to explain my meaning of "Your Edit" environment. This situation does not allow the collaboration of ideas between the editor and director. There are countless factors which makes most editor pretend to cooperate having feigned interest whilst they rush the edit to get away from it. In such case that edit job to such editor is"Your Edit", he felt he is task with fulfilling a burden to get his pay check.

Another common and most dangerous one is the situation whereby the director left the job for the editor alone. To some editor it is a blessing, an interesting
moment whereby he fills in his interpretation of the story in the editing process even if there are laid down instructions. The story suffers uneven interpretations.

The most wearisome type is a situation whereby the job was just a burden to the editor for lack of input from the director. The feels of such movies always speaks differently from written script. "Your Edit" is a common trend due to ignorance of most production outfit. It started by dumping the job unsupervised to editors' lap, it is gives a confusing flow of idea in such movies.

Now shall we discuss "My Edit" environment? It is the edit suite whereby both the editor(s) and director(s) works harmoniously to the interpretation of the script. The control environment for the world interpretation of the script. At such moment the movie is safe-guarded from the editors "mind" alterations. The editor process always re-create the story against the director's script, this is always a disaster.

In my edit the director understood this as well as the editor so they are both synergies making the most of the two different perspective. The director becomes the driver and the editor the bus conductor. As simple this sound it does not happen often.

You cannot buy an editor cooperation, you have to earn it.

In Nigeria movie industry today the quality of Motion graphics and Animation is gradually stepping up. Unfortunately, the bunch of players are majorly actors, producers and marketers. Stories are driven in the cast and shoot manner alone, tonnes of achieving the extra creativity has been ignorantly ignored.
