supomi: I was so infuriated at Dana after reading this post yesterday that I decided to contact the consumer protection directorate of the NCAA. To my greatest surprise, it so happens that there was no incident of air return involving a Dana aircraft yesterday and the post is a false alarm. I was also made to understand that air returns happen with airlines all over the world and are done in the interest of safety. I thought it made sense too; Isn't it better for a pilot to return to base if he notices a snag on the airplane than to try to manage it to his destination? Please let's make sure what we post are factual as such blatant lies or misrepresentation of facts do us more harm than good. Its obvious dana PR agents hv invaded us o!Were u on d plane?Did u talk to any of d passengers?U tink u are abroad where airlines actually say facts and admit to their lapses? So dana denied and u com chop their side of story?Gullible u!Mayb if u find yaself in a similar situation as mine then we'll kw if u'll hv d liver t speak all dis grammer.Mtchewwww |
"Dana Air apologizes for the delay that occurred on your flight 9J 357 out of LOS yesterday 10th June, 13. We are sorry for any inconveniences caused.".....apparently they apologised by sms tday for inconveniences caused and not lack of proper maintenance.Let me catch myself fly Dana again. |
@ al-yusra...my bros na God save us o! |
Dana Air Almost Killed Me Yesterday Here's my personal experience with Dana yesterday....passengers beware o! We boarded a dana flight 9J-357(LOS-ABV) yesterday at MM2 Lagos finally @ past 5pm after an hour delay, only for the plane to taxi, rise into the air a bit and suddenly came down again! Everyone on board thought it was the end of our sojourn here on earth! The pilot then announced it was a technical problem and didn't want to take chances so we had to board another plane...just barely a year after the last crash....makes me wonder if anyone cares about human lives in this Country! Dana should b grounded til they stop "managing" planes. |

DailyPost Senator Aliyu Ndume who has been accused of sponsoring the dreaded Boko Haram militants had on Tuesday been granted permission by an Abuja Federal High Court to embark on a trip to Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj. The presiding Judg, Justice Gabriel Kolawole ruled yesterday that the Senator’s travelling passport should be released to him to enable him to travel between August 1 and 31, 2012 for the Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia. Justice Kolawole had also ruled that Upon return between the given dates, Ndume must re-submit his passport to the court within 72 hours or will be confronted with another court action. The court allowed the Senator to travel outside the shores of the country while deciding on his application in which he pleaded to be allowed like others to undertake Hajj mission to Saudi. Ndume’s application also indicated that he would be using the opportunity to carry out a medical checkup on himself. However, Kolawole observed that Ndume’s application would have been rejected if it was based on checkup, but since it has something to do with religion; he would be granted the opportunity. “There is no evidence to indicate that the ailment cannot be treated locally. There is no medical report to show referral to a foreign hospital,” he said. Senator Ndume is a serving Nigerian Senator who has been accused of supporting the Boko Haram militants in terms of finance. Ndume has since been charged to court for the said allegation. http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/07/25/suspected-boko-haram-sponsor-granted-visa-hajj/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=suspected-boko-haram-sponsor-granted-visa-hajj |
[BusinessNews] Jonathan awards N927b contracts in 10 months, Niger Delta gets N247b contract sum. Investigation has revealed that Contracts worth N927bn have been awarded by President Goodluck Jonathan in ten months of his 13 months presidency. The contract figures which are found in a document titled,” Federal Executive Council Approved Contract” showed details of how Jonathan’s government had awarded contracts since he stepped into office. Investigation into contract awards shows that between August 10, 2011 and June 13, 2012 over N927bn contracts were awarded by the Federal Executive Council. The Senate had in February asked questions on the legality of contracts awarded by Federal Executive Council since Jonathan stepped in as the president. In a detailed analysis of Jonathan led administration’s contracts, it became quite clear that only in November, 2011,t N470bn worth of contracts was awarded, and it’s being considered the highest ever in any month. Other outrageous 2011 contracts were the N10.76bn awarded in August 2011 while in September about N72.89bn contracts were also awarded; October had over N94.97bn; and December sprang up to N128.34bn. In 2012, January contract award was N27.23bn; February N16.62bn, April N74.47bn, and May N30.40bn. The most shocking of the news is that out of the entire contracts awarded, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs got a huge chunk of the with a contract of about N246bn. The N246bn contract that was awarded to Setraco Nigeria Limited on August 10 2011, were to be completed within 28 months. The contract’s documents shows that the total sum was meant to complete the construction of sections 1 and 2 of the East-West road spanning Warri, Rivers and Bayelsa. In a similar case, the Ministry of Work within almost the same period had awarded contracts worth N144bn for three major projects, while over N70.2bn contracts were awarded by the Federal Capital Territory Administration. For the FCTA, the provisions of infrastructure at Kubwa and Karshi would gulp N42bn and N28.2bn respectively. The two contracts were awarded to SCC Nigeria Limited and expected to be completed within the period of 24 months and 20 months in that accordingly. However, delay, capacity of government to execute contracts, and other issues have raised different questions in relation to the legality of these contracts. Bunu in his report had noted, “We take no joy in confirming that there is indeed evidence of large scale, widespread institutional mediocrity, deficiency of vision and a lack of direction in project management, which result in poor conceptualisation, poor design and faulty execution. “It is needless to add that, this has resulted in avoidable losses of billions of Naira to the Federal Government.” The Director-General of Bureau of Public Procurement, Mr. Emeka Eze, had stated in a forum in May 2012 affirmed that his agency had deducted N313bn from strict verifications of MDAs project proposals, since its establishment. According to Eze “The sum of N313bn has been saved by the Bureau of Public Procurement for the Federal Government since the implementation of the Public Procurement Act, 2007 began,” . In a similar vein, Okogu, while speaking with members of Civil Society Organization , said it will be very difficult to do any new projects in 2013, considering the different projects that are scattered all over and uncompleted. He had said, “The fiscal consolidation efforts would be sustained because there is need for prudence in the management of public financial resources. “Given resource constraints, we have proposed a strategy in allocating capital vote and no new project will be allowed in the 2013 budget. “Some MDAs with large debts may not receive capital votes as their allocation will be used to pay off their debt. “There are about 6,300 projects that are presently ongoing nationwide and we need about N7trn to finish these and you really cannot run a fiscal system in this manner.” The National Assembly has at the moment spoken against this development, saying it was outrageous. According to the House, in spite of “Trillions of Naira appropriated for capital projects since 1999, there was no evidence that the funds were used judiciously” The House has as result vowed to look into the matter, asking the Federal Government to make available before it all contract details. This was directed to the table of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim. http:///GXUekLpS |

NYSC members will be posted to Borno, Yobe, Others —FG insists Posted by Chiagozie in Home » News, Nigerian News on July 11, 2012 - 6 Comments The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had last week bowed to tremendous pressure from concerned Nigerians and the House of Representatives to redeploy Youth Corps members posted to troubled northern states, but the Federal Government has overruled the NYSC, insisting that NYSC members would be posted to troubled states. The House of Representatives had in a resolution said the NYSC should stop posting of corps members to troubled states. The government says that concessional posting of Corps members would require constitutional amendment, except cases involving personal health or marriage. The Minister of Youth Development, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, while speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday argued that the issue of posting of corps members to states other than their states of origin was enshrined in the relevant laws establishing the scheme. Abdulkadir statements supersedes an earlier concession granted to the affected corps members by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-General Nnamdi Okore-Affia. The NYSC-DG had in a statement on July 5 directed corps members posted to Yobe to proceed to Nasarawa State, while those scheduled to have their orientation in Borno were directed to Benue State. On the resolution passed by the House of Representatives, he said the position of the ministry remained the position of the law. The minister said, “Talking about the National Assembly’s resolution vis-a vis our position here. My position is that of the law. “The fundamental thing is that the NYSC is a constitutional issue; the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which is supreme. “Of course, the NYSC initially was established through a military decree in 1973 because of its potential to the existence of Nigeria as a nation. “And in pursuance of a deliberate policy to set up something that will always and continue to integrate Nigerians and bring about harmony amongst Nigerians, among other things, the framers of the 1979 Constitution deemed it fit to make the NYSC law part of the constitution. “So if you are going to make any amendment to the NYSC or alter anything, you have to alter the constitution. That is the position. “In that regard, posting of corps members to states, apart from their own, except in some special circumstances, is governed by the law and must be adhered to.” He recalled that many Nigerians died during the civil war. The minister stated, “Don’t forget that a number of people went to the civil war. A number of Nigerians went to the war front they were killed they left families. “There are people who up till now who for no fault of theirs because by circumstances they were born during the period of the war they were not armed they got incapacitated. They have disabilities and they are living with those disabilities because of the war. This is a sacrifice to the nation.” He criticised the protest by some corps members in Abuja, saying at the time of the protest the protesters, who wore NYSC uniform, had not registered. Abdulkadir said, “How did they even get uniforms to wear? If they are really mobilised to go and serve where did they get the corpers’ uniform to come and assemble before the office of the NYSC to say they are protesting that they want to go or will not go.” [Punch] http://www.informationnigeria.org/2012/07/nysc-members-will-be-posted-to-borno-yobe-others-fg-insists.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo By SaharaReporters, New York Veteran Nigerian satirical poet and novelist, Professor Niyi Osundare today lampooned the Nigerian political class, describing them as people who owe Nigeria no responsibility but who are only holding the country hostage. The professor made this statement in a public lecture on the state of the nation organized by the Save Nigeria Group [SNG] in Lagos today. Professor Osundare in his assessment of the Nigerian political system critiqued the performances of the Nigerian politicians, portraying their psyches as one entrenched with corruption. Speaking on the topic "Why we no longer blush: Corruption as the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," the Professor described Nigerians as strong people but whose zeal have only been damaged by the sordid activities of the corrupt ruling class. The professor, who also blamed the retardation of the people and the denial of prosperity and development of the Nation on the tainted practices of the civil rulers, said Nigeria has turned itself into the final playground for corruption. “Nigeria is the cesspool and graveyard of corruption”, the Professor said, charging all Nigerian citizens to get angry with corruption and take back the nation to make it work again. He warned Nigerians to shun corruption and maintain the zeal they carried in January until they are able to totally battle out corruption. At the center point of all catchphrases employed by the professor while describing the prevailing system of corruption in Nigeria is “corruption is the fastest growing industry in Nigeria”, while he also stressed that the dent caused by the enterprise of corruption has held back the development of the people and the state. “Nigerians must kill corruption before corruption kills Nigeria”, the Professor added, employing his muscles to convey the picture for resonance. Also, speaking at the function were Convener of the SNG, Pastor Tunde Bakare; foremost Nigerian constitutional lawyer and activist, Professor Itse Sagay; daughter of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Mrs. Tokunbo Awolowo, spokesperson of the SNG, Comrade Yinka Odumakin; President of the Campaign for Democracy, Dr. Joe Okei Odumakin and Chairman of the Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Barrister Ubani. Mrs. Tokunbo Awolowo said the Nigeria currently experienced is a complete difference from the Nigeria led by the circle of her late father, Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Pastor Tunde Bakare in his closing statement after painting the picture of Nigeria as a quagmire made by the ruling party, PDP, said the government of Goodluck Jonathan will be helped out the same way it was helped in. “Civil Protests brought Jonathan in, civil protests will flush him out”, Pastor Bakare said as he concluded." http://saharareporters.com/news-page/%E2%80%9Ccorruption-fastest-growing-industry-nigeria%E2%80%9D-%E2%80%93-prof-niyi-osundare |
This is coming just as president Goodluck Jonathan held a crucial meeting with heads of the other two arms of government, including the Senate President, David Mark; Speaker of the House, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Dahiru Musdapher to mull the way forward on the war against corruption. Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke who disclosed federal government's readiness to prosecute alleged looters of the country's funds meant for fuel subsidy in the country said: "The report was not discussed as an issue, but assurances were given that as soon as the EFCC finishes its assignment which is very soon, you will begin to see prosecution probably in the next one week. "We will begin to prosecute because the EFCC has gone very far. So, Nigerians should be rest assured that this is not an issue that will be swept under the carpet. We have gone this far because we want a proper and painstaking investigation done so that when we charge people to court there will be no lapses or loopholes for lawyers to explore", the AGF added. Adoke who spoke to State House Correspondents immediately after the meeting of heads of the three arms of government admitted that the meeting was to review strategy on fighting corruption, saying, "Yes, we are coming out with a national strategy on the fight against corruption, and that strategy will involve the three arms of government". Also present at the meeting from the executive's side were the Vice President, Secretary to Government of the Federation, the Head of Service, Central Bank Governor, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). http://www.leadership.ng/nga/articles/29320/2012/07/09/subsidy_probe_prosecution_culprits_begins_next_week_fg.html |
