TWIST OF FATE : #4

“Where were you last night, Becky? I called your mobile phone but there was no response and I called Lizzy who told me you were out.” Roseline asked in a puzzled voice. “I went on a stroll with a friend. Are you missing me already?” Rebecca stretched her body lazily under the bedspread and her friend frowned at the other end. “Of course I miss you. When did you start going on strolls and who did you went out with at that hour?” Roseline came back to the subject she was avoiding. “Well, we nearly had an accident yesterday and I decided to find out what was the root cause of it as I know it was unusual of him.” Rebecca said and proceeded to narrate the whole event to her friend. “So you are acting the good employer, right?” Roseline said with a grin. “Something like that. I’m getting the feeling that dad does not want me to work?” Rebecca confided to her friend what had been bothering her mind since she got back to Nigeria and Roseline noted the fact that she had changed the subject once again. “Are you serious? Are you sure that was not your fiancée’s idea?” Roseline said casually and she frowned as she sat up straight. “Why would you say that?” She asked even as she knew it was possible because it had been the cause of their first fight. “You told me once that you guys had an argument over it and now your father is changing his mind all of a sudden. I will talk to you later, babe. A call just came in on my emergency line.” Roseline cut off the call before she could reply and she put her own phone away very slowly.
She knew Lizzy and Roseline doesn’t like Ramsey and couldn’t think of a reason for their unreasonable dislike for her fiancée. Ramsey was the youngest son of a prominent and well known lawyer in the country, Justice Daniel Williams and she had liked him right from the first time they met. He had taken both her and Roseline to the movies on their first date and she had enjoyed his company a lot and had agreed to a second date before the first one even ended. However, Roseline had taken instant dislike to him and hadn’t hid her impression about him which had caused their first real row. After that, Roseline never discussed him again and refused to comment on whatever she told her about him. She had to admit it got to her as they were the two closest people to her but she was happy when Ramsey and her father got on so well.

Rebecca woke up to the consistent ringing of the phone and yawned loudly as she picked up her call. It was Ramsey on the line and his words jutted her straight out of the remnant of sleep.

An hour later, Rebecca got into the Car and drove to her father’s office. He was on the phone when she walked in but she sat down in front of him and waited till he was through. “How may I help you, Becky? Can’t you wait till I get home tonight?” B.B said impatiently as he sat back in his seat. “I’m sorry but it can’t. Is it true that you just gave Ramsey a job in your company?” She asked calmly. “Do you have any problem with that?” He raised an eye brow to her. “Dad, did he ask for your assistance in getting a job or you just did it out of the goodness of your heart?” She asked angrily. “I have a vacancy suitable for him and I gave it to him because he is qualified for the position. Tell me what is wrong with that.” He said as he stared steadily at his daughter. “Will you sack him if I decide not to marry him again?” It was her turn to raise an eyebrow to her father. “I have not raise a wayward daughter. A ki mo oko omo ki a tun mo ale e, you don’t dare.” Her father said coldly. “What do you mean, Dad? I introduced him to you as my fiancée and I might decide to let him go for whatever reason.” She said off-handedly and her father’s eyes narrowed to a slit. “When did you start doubting your relationship with Ramsey, Becky? You want to start messing around like your younger sister, isn’t it?” He said disgustingly. “How can you say that, Dad? You should know I have a reason for whatever I do and I am not like Lizzy.” She said indignantly. “Now, listen real good. I need someone to be my heir, to take over from me when I retire and none of you girls is touring my line, not to talk of taking over from me.” He paused. “Lizzy is in your line, Dad. It is only she is still young and you are not retiring now, are you?” She asked sharply. ‘Lizzy does not strike me as the reliable and serious type, even if she is old enough to take over. It would have been you, Becky but you went your own way and I don’t fault you for that.” He said quietly and she was at a loss for what to say because she knew he was right. She sighed inaudibly. “Ramsey is everything I want in a son and son-in-law and I’m going to hand over to him. If you don’t marry him, Becky, you won’t have access to my possessions.” He said firmly and she stared at him in disbelieve and shock!

She just came back from one of her evening strolls when she heard raised voices from the Car garage and moved towards it in time to see her sister stormed out of the place. “What is going on, Lizzy?” Rebecca put her hands out to stop her but she brushed it away. “Go and ask that idiot in there.” Lizzy hissed as she moved past and ran into the house. Rebeca walked into the car garage and saw Joseph sitting on a car bonnet, clad in only black faded jean and laughing his heart out! “What is so blasted funny, joe?” Rebecca asked in a cold voice. “What do you want to know?” He grinned at her and she felt the level of her anger increasing rapidly. “You can wipe that stupid grin off your face and give me a decent answer.” She countered sharply with a hand on her hip. “What is with you anyway? You are so judgmental wherever I’m concerned and that does not speak well of you. You don’t know what happened and you are already judging me.” He said quietly and watched her face closely. “What is wrong with you?” He asked and she turned away. “There is nothing wrong with me.” She said, even she remembered he had uttered the same words to her a few weeks ago. She tried to smile at the memory and sighed instead. “Do you care to talk about it? A problem shared is half solved.” He pulled her by the wrist and lifted her effortlessly unto the car bonnet. “Thank you for the concern but you can’t help with this particular issue. It is totally personal.” She grinned at him and burst into laughter when he raised an eye brow at her. “That sounds better and you look more relax now.” He smiled back. “Thank you.” She said simply and watched his face. You are the root of my problem, she thought forlornly and sighed again. “Stop doing that. Everything will be fine eventually.” He squeezed her hand in assurance and leaned over to place a peck on her cheek. She turned her face abruptly and his lips brushed her own. They both stood still as they stared at each other. Physical attraction hummed strongly between them. “Damn! This is so wrong.” He murmured under his breath, even as he moved to stand between her legs. “This is crazy.” She began in a whisper even as she leaned forward and noted that his heart was thudding rapidly beneath her palms. “It is.” He agreed as he fitted his mouth over hers and kissed her. She slipped her arms round his neck to draw him closer and responded to his kiss as all thoughts drained from her.

“Becky, where are you? I have been waiting for you and I need to leave now.” Ramsey’s voice penetrated the fog of passion between them and Joseph stepped away abruptly. She slipped to the floor and tried to balance herself on the uneven tiles. “I am right here.” Her voice came out in a croak and she coughed slightly to clear it. She glanced at Joseph who stared back at her without an expression on his face and walked out in time to meet Ramsey at the entrance of the Car garage. “What are you doing in the dark?” He asked as he draped his arm possessively over shoulder and she tried not to shrug it off. “I went for a stroll. You didn’t tell me you are coming.” She said in a faintly accusing voice. “Do I have to make an announcement before I visit my wife to be?” Ramsey teased but she didn’t smile. They moved towards the main house and Joseph released the breath he had been holding. That was a close call, Joe! He thought in amusement as he locked up the car and prepared to go home.

“Becky, how are you preparing for your wedding?” Roseline asked cheerfully from the other end. “Uh?” Becky mumbled as she rubbed her eyes wearily. She had had a sleepless night! “Yours and Ramsey’s wedding. I thought that was why you have been so preoccupied lately.” Roseline said in a puzzled voice. “Come off it, Rose. Would I be preparing for my wedding without telling you?” She sounded relief, even to her own ear. “You are not sounding too eager. What is the problem, Becky?” Roseline asked quietly and she chewed her bottom lips thoughtfully as she replayed the scene at the car park in her mind again. She sighed as she closed her eyes and pressed two fingers to her eyes. “Are you alright, Becky?” Roseline asked in concern. “I’m in trouble, Rose.” She said quietly. “What is the problem? Talk to me, girlfriend.” “Can you imagine being engaged to one man and responding to another man’s kiss?” She gave a little self-reproaching laugh and Roseline was silent for a while. “Who is the other man?” She asked cautiously. “Joseph Coker. Please keep your I –told-you –so remark to yourself. “She retorted acidly and Rose tucked her tongue in her cheek. “I was just about to say so. Is that not Lizzy’s big crush?” Roseline asked with a frown and she sighed again. “He is the same man. I intend to stay away from him and it will never happen again. “She vowed silently. “Love is not reasonable and it happen either you want it to or not. Suit yourself, sensible Becky but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. “She chuckled to herself at the other end and put an end to the call. Becky stared at the phone in disbelieve and laughed lightly before getting out of bed.

“Hi Dad. Lizzy said you want to see me.” Becky sauntered into her father’s study room. “I want you to get Joe for me for urgent issue. I’ve been trying his number but it was switched off. Today’s his off-day but I need to see him.” He said as he removed his reading glasses and glanced at his daughter. “How are you so sure he will be available at home when it was his day off?” She asked with a frown as she sat in a cushion sofa across from him. “It is just a gamble. He is just the man to handle this idiot I’m dealing with. Would you be a good girl and run along now?” He said hopefully. “You should have send Lizzy, Dad plus I don’t even know his house.” She lied glibly, pouting her lips and wishing desperately that her father would change his mind. “I will give you the address now. I don’t trust Lizzy around any man, certainly not one as attractive as Joseph.” He said as he wrote on a post-it and gave it to her in addition to the car key. Oh Dad! You are protecting the wrong girl, she thought helplessly as she got to her feet and stormed out of the house.

TWIST OF FATE : #3

Joseph’s mind had been wondering for the past few days and he was at lose of what to do about his present predicament. His mother had stomach ulcers and it was getting worse but he didn’t know what to do because he doesn’t even have the money to maintain the kind of lifestyle she needed to heal up quickly, not when he just paid a year’s rent for their accommodation. A petrol tanker was approaching him, blaring its horn but Joseph was almost driving into it before he saw the big vehicle and swerved away in the nick of time but not before Rebecca screamed and her fiancée shouted at him. “Are you sleeping? What is the problem with you? If you are tired of your job, we can easily get you replaced.” Ramsey said in a very cold voice that disguised the fear that clutched at his heart. “I’m sorry sir. I wasn’t my usual self. I promised it won’t happen again.” Joseph said apologetically and Rebecca watched his hands shook as he tried to balances the car again. They were on their way to a family friend’s wedding ceremony. “What kind of rubbish is this for crying out loud, Becky?” Ramsey turned to Rebecca in outrage. “It is okay. Let’s just thank God for everything.” She put a comforting hand on his arm and he hissed viciously. “I’m sorry. Please forgive me.” Joseph apologized again as he tried to hold their gaze in the back view mirror for a moment before facing the road again. “Please feel sorry for yourself, you disgraceful idiot.” Ramsey told him angrily and stared out of the car. Rebecca sighed inaudibly.

Joseph was strolling along the road in search of a cab to take him home when he heard soft fall of footsteps behind him and he slowed down a bit to know who it was. A woman fell into steps with him and he knew without looking who it was. “Is there anything I can do for you?” He asked in a cool voice without sparing her a glance and didn’t see her wince. “Can we be friends for tonight?” Rebecca asked quietly and he felt humbled. “I’m sorry.” He muttered to himself. “Apologies accepted. I would love to tender one for my saucy attitude the other day.” She said with a smile and he nodded to her in acceptance. They walked in companionable silence, each lost in their individual thought. “You should have told me you are going somewhere before I left the house and I would have taken you before leaving the house.” He said casually as he turned to glance at her. “I know. I just needed to get away from home.” She said with a shrug and looked at him. “What is wrong? You look worried.’ She asked quietly. “I’m fine. There is nothing wrong with me.” He said with a smile. A cab drove by and he flagged it down. He got inside and Rebecca hopped in beside him. “Where do you think you are going, Rebecca? I am going home.” He told her in an unfriendly voice. “Well, I will leave you alone when you tell me what is wrong with you and don’t tell me you are fine because you are not. You nearly drove us to our death this afternoon. “She told him in a calm voice and he stared at her in exasperation. “I sincerely apologized for that or what else do you want? I said I am fine and nothing is wrong with me.” He said coldly. “You are still not telling the truth. It is a great night and a nice opportunity to see your dirty room.” She looked out through the window at the moving vehicles and glanced back at him with a smile. His lips twitched in amusement but he refused to smile back and sat back with a resigned sigh. They both enlightened from the cab when it reached his destination and he paid the cab fare for both of them.

“So you have seen my house and my area, don’t you think it is right time you turn around and go back home?” He asked with barely restrained anger, exasperated at the fact that he had to pay extra transport fare because of her nosiness. “Are you angry because I am here or because you have to pay my transport fare?” She asked as she faced him. “Both. You have no business being here. What do you want me to tell your parent or your fiancée if they find out you are with me at this hour in this unsafe area?” He tried to appeal to her reasoning side and she looked around at the poor neighborhood with gutters running in front of the houses. “I am an adult and I am responsible for my actions. Why is it unsafe for me and it is safe for you to live there?” She asked in a puzzled voice. “I give up. You are welcome to my simple abode, Miss Badmus.” He said politely as he climbed up the short flight of steps and walked into the dimly lit corridor of the face to face building. Rebecca didn’t bother to answer as she followed behind at a slow pace, taking in the environment as she moved along. He stopped in front of a room on the right side and knocked briefly before pushing the door open.

Naomi moved away from the window where she had been watching her son and his boss’s daughter and went to lie on the bed in her room before they came in. “How are you, mum?” Joseph said warmly as he gave his mother a bear hug and kissed her on both cheek. “I’m fine. How is work today?” She smiled as she pulled his nose playfully. Rebeca watched the easy display of affection between mother and son from the bedroom doorway and tried to relate this Joseph to the efficient and expert but distant one she knew when he was at work. She moved from the doorway and went to sit on the other side of the Naomi. The woman looked more like his elder sister, rather than his mother and there was no resemblance between the two of them, Rebecca observed as she looked from one to the other .Naomi turned to look at her and turned back to her son with questions in her eyes. He glared at her and she met his gaze with a raised eyebrow that secretly pleased his mother, then he introduced the two women.

“Good evening ma. I have to say you look too young to be his mother and there is no resemblance between the two of you” Rebecca said with a smile as she hugged the older woman. Joseph gritted his teeth at her boldness but kept quiet. “That is because Joseph is the spitting image of his father. Thanks for the compliment. You are beautiful.” Naomi patted her back and drew back to admire her. Joseph got to his feet and stood behind his mother to give Rebecca a warning glance. She took the cue and refrained from asking more questions, even though she was dying to know everything about him. “Why didn’t you take your mum to the hospital if she is not feeling well?” Rebecca looked at him. “There is nothing wrong with my mother and I think you should keep your nose out of my business.” He said coolly as he stared down at her and she decided not to respond when she realized the older woman was watching her with interest. “Well, if it is finance that is the issue, you could ask for an advance of your salary. It would go a long way in taking care of her till you could come up with something else.” She suggested instead and he had to commend her tact. “I guess you are right. Thank you.” He said shortly and she grinned at him. “You are welcome.” She glanced at her slim wrist-watch and got to her feet. “I have to get back home now as it is late but I will check on you again before the week runs out.” She promised. “Thank you, Becky but I’m already feeling better. My best regards to your parent.” Naomi replied with a smile and watched her walk out of the room, followed by her son at a respectable distance.

TWIST OF FATE : #2

“Any luck yet with your job hunting, Andrew?” Joseph asked in resignation as he stretched out on his make-shift bed. Andrew was his childhood and best friend and they had grown up in the same neighborhood, practically brought up by his own mother after his own mother’s death when he was just twelve. Andrew’s father was a roadside mechanic and he had gotten married to another woman shortly after his mother’s death who had turned his life into a living hell. Despite the hardship and years of suffering, Andrew and Joseph were among the top five percent in their classes throughout their school days. Andrew was a casual worker at Lubcon group of companies and worked in shifts. “I heard that Guarantee trust bank is recruiting again, so I went to the cybercafé after work today and went to submit our C.V.” Andrew said with a shrug and sipped from a can of beer in front of him, then glanced guiltily towards the bedroom door. “Is mum in?” He whispered as he leaned towards him from where he sat on the stool. “I don’t think so. She would have come out if she is there. Throw me a can please.” Andrew obliged him and he caught it neatly in his hand, then popped it open and drank to his satisfaction. “How is the hot babe chasing you? Give the girl a break and let her have what she wants.” Andrew said with a grin. “I don’t do child abuse. She is young enough to be my younger sister.” He said with a grimace. “But she is not your younger sister and you don’t even have one. When was the last time you shag a woman?” Andrew asked with a silly grin and he scowled at his friend. “I don’t have the time and money to spend on a woman.” He said defensively. “We both know you need neither before you can sleep with any woman you want, so why did you remain celibate all this time?” Andrew asked seriously and he shrugged again. “I have had enough of women, Andy. Moreover, once you start shagging them, they want to hook you permanently and I don’t have that kind of patience for any woman. I just want to get a better way to earn a living and move on.” Joseph said wistfully and his friend raised an eyebrow. “I know you are tired of your work at the Bemus’s place but your complaint these days is getting on my nerves. Is there a particular reason for that? Don’t tell me it is because of Lizzy because I know you are not even seeing her.” Andrew said observingly as he stared at his friend and he scowled into his drink before draining the remaining cold beer. “I’m just bored and tired of driving spoilt bitches around town.” He said with feeling. “Are you sure it is the bitches or just one bitch that is driving you up the wall?” Andrew asked quietly, studying him with a steady gaze and he sighed audibly. “She is even worse than her sister, Andy .She is very saucy and bossy and tries my patience every time I drive her. I think it is right time I move on or don’t you think so?” Joseph said with a troubled gaze that actually tore at his friend’s heart. “I think it is a good sign that she is getting to you, Joe because I’m getting scared that no woman would ever be able to get under your skin this way. It is just a pity that she is engaged to another man.” Andrew said frankly as he leaned against the wall.

“You are right and that is the only reason I will forgive you for drinking beer in my sitting room.” Naomi, joseph’s mother said as she came out of the bedroom and laughed at the shocked expression on the young men’s face. Joseph stuffed the pack of cheap cigarette he just brought out of his pocket into a hole in the chair and shifted to sit on it. “Good evening ma.” They chorused as they exchanged glances and made a face at each other. “Evening young men. As I was saying, I was getting pretty scared myself.” She said solemnly and sat beside her son. “Don’t get your hopes up, mum. I won’t have anything to do with another man’s fiancée, albeit someone as saucy as Becky Badmus.”He said in a flat voice. “Does anybody believe in destiny here? I do. “She answered her question and smiled in a mysterious way. “I’m keeping my fingers crossed.” she said and Andrew silently agreed on it.

“Hey, Coker. Can you get that red city Honda ready for me?” Rebecca ordered from behind and he turned round very slowly. “I don’t work for you, Miss Rebecca. I work for your father.” He asked coldly, resting his arm on the car he was cleaning. “You have to follow the order of anybody that bears the name “Badmus”.” She answered, coming to a stop a few steps from him and had to tilt back her head to see his face. “I don’t have your time. I have a job to do.” He turned his back on her and she gripped his arm to stop his movement. “This is part of your job, Coker. I don’t blame you for being saucy since you have sleeping with one of us.” She said rudely. He stared at her for a moment in disbelieve and burst into a long hearty laughter that suddenly sent her over the roof. Her calm demeanor went through the roof and she hit his face in a resounding slap. He stared at her in shock as he lifted a hand to his stinging flesh and she watched in horror as her finger-prints turned fiery red on his cheek. She turned sharply on her heels to head back to the house and he pulled her back abruptly by her wrist. She stumbled against him. He shook her hard until her teeth rattled and she struggled to get away. “If you try that rubbish again next time, you will be amazed at what I will do to you, Spoilt brat.” He said with obvious disdain and released her abruptly. “Becky, Ramsey is here to see you.” Elizabeth shouted from the front of the house. “Your lover boy is waiting for you. Get out of my sight.” He jeered at her with a cold smile. “I will show you real pepper in this house, you slowpoke “She snapped her fingers and walked away in anger.

Joseph was sent on an errand to salmon’s office by his boss and he met the latter in a bad mood. “What is the problem sir? Why are you looking so worried?” He stood in front of his desk and watched the man poured a shot of whiskey into the glass. “I just came back from the police station “He murmured sadly and poured the drink down his throat in a gulp. “What business do you have with the police?” He asked with a puzzled frown and gently pulled the bottle away from his hand before he could pour another shot. Salmon dropped the glass cup on the table and sat back with a heavy sigh. “My youngest daughter, Aliya went to a party and there was a fight, then the police went to arrest them at the venue of the party.” He explained quietly. “How old is she?” Joseph asked casually. “She‘s just fifteen and she lives in a boarding school. She is not even supposed to be out of that school premises in the first place. I paid thousands to educate these girls but it is just so worthless!” He said with feelings. “Educating a child is different from disciplining him or her. Maybe it is right time you start disciplining them in a proper way and stop thinking money can buy or do everything. Try and be a daddy and not just a father to your children and it will go a long way in getting you to know them but don’t let it bother you too much. It is not too late.” He said with a smile and watched the man struggled with his mood before he gave a weary smile. “Thank you very much, Joe.” He took a deep breath and released it. “Your father must be very proud of you, Joseph and I envy him without even knowing him.” Salmon added in a sincere voice and watched a side of his lips lifted in a parody of a smile. “I was once a boy too and despite all the discipline in the world, I was not a saint either. My boss said I should give you these.” Joseph brought out an envelope and held it out to him. “Thanks. I owe you.” Salmon told him as he collected the sealed envelope from him. “I need to get back to work. Bye sir.” He said with deep curtsey and turned on his heel without another word.

TWIST OF FATE : #1

Joseph Coker opened the door to the one room and parlor apartment he shared with his mother and let himself into the darkness as quietly as possible. He locked the door and turned round to see his mother framed in the door between the room and the parlor. He released a heavy sigh and flopped unto the only sofa in the sitting room that also doubled as his bed every night. His mother moved quietly across the room to pull a stool and sat in front of him. “What is the problem, Joe? Why are you looking so defeated?” She asked worriedly in concern and he released another sigh. “I’m fed up, mum. What is the essence of being a graduate when you don’t even have the opportunity to use that certificate?” He asked wearily, staring up at the ceiling and his mother gave an inaudible sigh too. “Love, Please wait for your time. You and I both know that it is not for lack of trying and when it is the right time; your own opportunity will come. At least you should be thanking God that you are doing something for the time being which is better than staying at home and doing nothing. “She said quietly. “Doing what? Working as a driver for a spoilt bitch and her parent? Please cut it out, mum.” He said with a bitter laugh and stretched out on the tattered sofa. “Worrying will take you no-where, it will only earn you a headache. Should I warm your dinner for you?” She got to her feet and moved to the make-shift kitchen in the corner of the room. “I’m not hungry. We have had dinner before I dropped my boss off at home.” He said with a shrug and swung his legs down again. “Mum, don’t you think it is right time I contact my biological father? He has no right leaving the sole responsibility of bringing me up to you. It is unfair! ”He said heatedly and she stiffened visibly before turning to face him. “What are you insinuating, my boy? What else do you want me to do for you? You want to go and look for your father because you can’t get a job on your own? How manly is that?” She glared at him with her hand on her hips. “I’m sorry, mum but I just think…….”She cut him off abruptly. “I’m not interested in what you think. Please go and sleep before we both said what we will both regret.” She turned sharply on her heels and walked into the room, slamming the door behind her.

“How is Lagos, Elizabeth? Are you enjoying yourself? “Rebecca asked her sister with a giggle from the other end. “I’m bored silly. I wish Dad will allow me come back.” Lizzy said sulkily as she stretched out luxuriously on the chaise longue by the side of the pool. She was the second child and daughter of her business tycoon father and full house-wife mother who devoted her time raising her two daughters both in their Lagos based mansion and their furnished apartment in London Central which was currently occupied by her elder sister, Rebecca. She was a young girl of eighteen, chocolate in color with a curvy figure and a very pretty face. She was gleaming wet and looking alluring in a skimpy backless bikini pant and bra. “No parties? No men? I can’t believe that. Nigeria is not so remote.” Rebecca said with obvious disbelieve. “It is not remote, I’m just not used to the kind of parties they throw here but I have been catching my fun anyway, albeit secretly because Dad will kill me if he knows.” She cringed inwardly and her sister chuckled to herself. “How about the men you have met so far? Don’t tell me none of them has caught your fancy because I won’t believe it.” Rebecca said with obvious amusement. “Hmn…….I have my sight set on one.” She pursed her lips thoughtfully as she rolled unto her stomach and closed her eyes. “Who is he? This sound serious, baby sister.” Rebecca tried not to let her smile reflect in her voice: her baby sister was having a big crush on somebody! “He is the family driver, Becky. If you see that guy, Becky, you will bow. He is hot! Tall, fair in complexion without a single black on his gorgeous body except for his jet black hair.” She whistled softly under her breath and her sister frowned to herself at the other end. “He just drives me crazy every time he walked past.” Elizabeth continued dreamily. “Snap out of your fantasy, baby sister. Are you so sex starved you can’t think of a better man to sleep with except a driver?” Rebecca asked scathingly. “Becky, I don’t care about what he does .If he can just look at me once, I will dance on the moon for him but he just doesn’t see me. “She said mournfully and her sister snorted in disgust at the other end. “He is not worth your attention then. Forget about him and find someone else to play with.” Rebecca said in obvious relieve. “That man that can resist me has not yet been born.” She said with a determined glint in her eyes and continued before her sister could comment. “How is your boring boyfriend?” “He is my fiancé, not my boyfriend and he is not boring. How dare you criticize my boyfriend?” She said in an annoyed voice. “Come off it, Becky. Ramsey is your first boyfriend and you are just twenty-two .Lighten up a bit, big sister and catch your fun before settling down.” Elizabeth said in one of her rare moments of seriousness and her sister laughed at her. “Thanks for the sermon but I’m okay with just one man. I don’t need to spread my tentacle around before I decide who I want to settle down with. Tell mum I will talk to her later and Dad too.” Rebecca told her sister. “No problem. I will tell them if I remember because ………….”Her voice trailed off as Joseph strolled towards her in his chinos trouser and shirt that was his uniform whenever he was on duty and she sighed inaudibly. “Are you there, Lizzy?” Rebecca asked in a puzzled voice at the other end. “I will talk to you later.” Elizabeth whispered and ended the call before her sister could respond.

“Hi Lizzy, your mother has been trying your number for the past thirty minutes. Can you go in and see her now?” Joseph said quietly as his disinterested gaze roamed her body from head to toes and back to her face and he couldn’t help admiring what he saw. “Thanks. I will see her very soon.” She got to her feet, stretched and dived neatly into the pool. Joseph’s lips twitched in a smile and he turned to stroll away from the pool arena. “Hi Joe, what are you doing tonight?” Her voice cut through the hot afternoon and stopped him in his track but he didn’t turn around. “I’m either working which depends on your father’s schedule or I will be on my way home. Why are you asking?” He asked curiously but he was already guessing. The spoilt kid has a big crush on him, he thought with amusement. “I’m wondering if we could hang out together in town and just catch our fun. What do you think, handsome?” She asked in a sultry voice and he turned around to see her hanging by the edge of the pool with her arms on the cool tiles. He came to a stop in front of her and bent down to eye level with her. “Why don’t you find someone of your age to play with? I’m too old for you.” He asked with a seriousness which belied the amusement he was feeling. “I am an adult and I am old enough to know what I want. You are just perfect for me .What do you say? Can we hang out tonight?” She held his gaze with a boldness he couldn’t help admiring. “I can’t hang out with you because I don’t engage in child abuse. Get out of that pool, your mum is waiting for you.” He got to his feet and strolled out of the pool arena. “I am not giving up on you.” She shouted after him and he could have sworn she stuck out her tongue at his back before he heard her splashing around in the water. He laughed heartily as he made his way to the Car park to wait for his boss. “What is so funny, my boy?” Benedict Badmus, fondly referred to as B.B by his friends and relative asked as he came out of the house, closely followed by his wife. “Nothing sir. Are you ready to leave now? We have quite some distance to cover.” Joseph glanced at his leather wrist watch that had seen better days. “I’m ready. It is this woman that has been wasting my time. They always want something or the other whenever you want to leave the house.” B.B grumbled good-naturedly. “Do have a safe trip. Joe, did you see Lizzy?” Ruth Badmus brushed an invisible speck off her husband’s T-shirt before turning to their driver with a questioning eye. “I saw her and I have told her you are waiting for her.” Joseph paused for just a moment to answer her question before turning on his heels and moving to the driver’s side of the car. Few minutes later, they drove out of the compound and Ruth went in search of her prodigal daughter.
Joseph was strolling along the road, looking for a cab or bike to take home when a silver jaguar cruised slowly to his side. “Hi, Joe, Care for a ride?” A female voice called to him as the driver’s window slowly wind down and he didn’t have to look in before he knew who it was. “I don’t have your time, little girl.” He told her without slowing his pace. “Why don’t you give me a chance before judging me with my age? I can offer you better than your babe, whoever she is.” She said, undaunted as she kept pace with him and he stopped to address her. “You can’t measure up to my babe because she is old enough to be your older sister and I think you should go home before you catch cold in that skimpy thing you are wearing.” He nodded to the blood red halter-neck she wore that left nothing to the imagination and stepped away. “You are the biggest idiot I have ever come across and you don’t even know it “She spat at him as she stepped on the accelerator and drove away at a neck –breaking speed. Joseph jumped back in time as she nearly breaks his leg in her haste to get away and burst into hearty laughter.

The sound of the ringing phone penetrated through the pillow into Elizabeth’s mind and she willed it away as she burrowed deeper into her pillow but the phone kept ringing until she flung the pillow away and snatched her phone up. “Who is it?” She barked into the phone as she propped the second pillow against the bed post and sat against it. “Common, Lizzy, don’t tell me you are still in bed at this hour. You ought to be in school by now.” Her sister’s disapproving voice lashed at her over the line and she rubbed at her eyes. “I don’t have lecture today. “She lied instantly, even as she remembered she had a test in school that day. “Really?” It was obvious her sister didn’t believe her and she tried to change the subject. “When are you coming down finally, Becky? I have missed you. “She said and realized she actually meant it. “I should be through with my houseman ship in next two weeks and we will be down in Nigeria latest by next month.” Rebecca said casually and Elizabeth winced as she realized her sister was referring to her fiancée once again. “I can’t wait to see you guys. “She yawned loudly and her sister burst into laughter. “Did you go to bed late? How is your hunting with Joe, the driver? Any luck yet?” Elizabeth could almost see her sister grinning and she couldn’t prevent grinning herself. “Dad and his friend came back from Abuja on a late night flight yesterday and he went to pick them at the airport. The flight was delayed, so by the time they got home last night, it was quite late and dad asked him to stay in the spare room while his friend stayed in the guest room. Mum asked me to prepare the room while he had dinner.” She paused dramatically. “You waited in his bed for him?” Rebecca guessed quite right because she knew her sister so well and Elizabeth burst into helpless giggle. “How did you know? He came straight to bed and was actually in bed before he realized I was there. Oh! You need to see him in his boxers’ shorts. He is so magnificent!” Elizabeth said dreamily. “Did he sleep with you?” She asked stiffly and heard her sister sighed loudly. “He carried me bodily and threw me out of his room but not after I tasted those soft pink lips.” She said with a smile as she stretched her body. “Lizzy!” Rebecca said at the end of a long-suffering sigh and thanked God that the harassed man was at least decent enough not to take advantage of her. “I know! I’m a bad girl but I just love this guy. Don’t you understand?” Elizabeth said with a pout and her sister sighed again. “You just have a big crush for him, Lizzy. You don’t know the meaning of love and you can’t till you are a bit older .I will talk to you later, sweetheart, Roseline is here now.” Roseline was Rebecca’s best friend since her days at the Oxford College of medicine and she was an American. “Give my regards to her and her little sister. Love you!” Elizabeth was relieved to be spared the sermon and put a stop to the call before her sister could comment.
It was Joseph’s day off but he was asked to drop off his boss’s friend at home before heading home himself. Joseph had washed the car and warmed up the engine before his boss’s friend, Salmon came out of the house. “Thank you, Joe.” He opened the front seat car and sat down beside him to his surprise. “Why don’t you have your seat at the back? I think it has more leg’s space and it is more convenient.” He suggested as he kicked the car to life and the car purred contentedly under his expert hands. “There is nothing wrong with this seat, is there?” The elderly man teased and he smiled as he faced the road. “How are you? Where are your parent?” He asked curiously as he fastened his safety belt when Joseph pointed discreetly at it. “They are here in this town.” He stared straight ahead and Salmon waited for him to elaborate but he didn’t. “You are a reserved one, Joe. Did you attend any higher institution?” He asked undaunted by the tight-lipped response from his companion. “I am a university graduate.” He said simply with a faint smile and salmon had to admit he had been put in his place: properly! He took a long look at the young handsome profile and burst into a long hearty laughter. “I wish I have a son like you. I must admit I admire you greatly and would love to know you better than this.” He said a bit wistfully. “Thank you sir.” Joseph said quietly with a deep curtsey and they launched into a companionable silence that lasted the rest of the journey.

“VS 651 WOULD BE LANDING IN THE NEXT TEN MINUTES!” The announcer’s voice boomed over and over in the arrival’s lodge of Muritala international airport and Joseph glanced at his wrist-watch. It was to six in the morning and the Badmus were eagerly waiting for their first daughter to appear. Rebecca Badmus, he heard had been away from home for the past five years to study abroad and was finally coming back home with her fiancée whom she had met during her days at the college of medicine. Joseph was not eager to meet another spoilt brat but he was eager to get this over with and return home to his mother. Their luggage arrived first and salmon went to claim it while Joseph took it to the black limo waiting for the Badmus in the parking lot. He straightened up in time to see them filed out of the lounge, chatting excitedly and he recognized her instantly. She wore a flowery mini sundress that barely touched her knee and he had a feeling it was her rounded, curvy backside that made it shorter at the back. She was fair, tall and generously endowed at the right place without being fat. Joseph looked at her with reluctant admiration and noted the fact that Elizabeth’s alluring beauty paled in comparison to this dangerous vision walking towards him. He stared away and leaned lazily against the car.

“That is Joe standing beside the car.” Elizabeth whispered into her sister’s ear and Rebecca looked ahead. Her steps almost faltered in shock as he realized her sister’s description of their family driver was a complete understatement. Despite her own exceptional height as a woman, she realized he must be taller than she was by good two or three inches and he was so fair, his jet black hair stood out attractively on him. He still looked elegant in his chinos trouser and shirt that had seen better days and she had to admit grudgingly that her sister was right this time around. She slipped her hand protectively into Ramsey’s and the latter smiled as he pulled her closer by the waist possessively.
“Joseph, meet my first daughter, Doctor Rebecca Badmus and her fiancée, Ramsey Williams, Justice Daniel Williams’ son.” B.B introduced them proudly. “It is good to meet you finally, Miss Badmus.” He held out his hand and she shook it in a surprisingly firm grim. “It is my pleasure, Joseph.” She said politely and withdrew her hand instantly. “You are welcome, Mr. Williams.” Joseph greeted her man with a nod and got behind the wheel. Rebecca sat at the back of the car with her man while her family sat in the middle and Joseph was behind the wheel as usual. “I don’t like your family driver. He looks like someone that is going to be very arrogant.” Ramsey told Rebecca in a quiet tone but the disdain in his voice was quite clear and she winced invisibly. “Don’t say that to his hearing or else he will drive us into the ditch.” She said in a stage whisper and they both burst into laughter. “I will keep my opinion to myself then because I don’t want to die now. I still want to enjoy being with you.” He hugged her to himself and kissed the side of her neck. “The same goes here, love.” She said fervently as she looked ahead and her gaze clashed with Joseph’s in the back view mirror. He held hers with cold expressionless eyes for few seconds before looking away and concentrated on the road. She cuddled closer to her man and dropped her head on his shoulder fondly.

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : LOVE WINS!

"Adenike, what is wrong with you? Are you alright? "My mother spoke for the first time since my father came in as she got to her feet and approached my sister with a puzzled frown on her face. "Stay out of this, mother. It doesn't concern you. "She rounded on my mother with blazing eyes and my mom shrank back in fear. "Olawunmi, it seems we got more than we bargained for. Yinka, can you please get a pastor if you know one? "Dad said in a low voice as he moved me towards where my mother stood transfixed in a spot but i couldn't get my eyes off Adenike's face. She turned back to me. "Jumoke, he is waiting for you, please go back and leave my man for me. This one belongs to me” Her voice mellowed as she stared straight into my eyes. "He is not yours. Have you forgotten the rules? “My voice seemed to come from a distance as I faced her. “It is the one who took your virginity that belongs to you. You have completed your mission. Please go back to where you come from." I said with a small smile and cold air swirled around the room as she glared at me. "I am superior to you in rank and i will take you back. "She flung her hand out at me even as Yinka tried to grab her and i felt pain vibrated through my body in waves. My body jerked and went limp. I heard the panic and fear in Yinka and my Dad’s voices as I floated away until silence echoed around me.

I found myself sitting on the white sand and the soft breeze from the body of water surrounding me blew the white skirt and floaty top on my body. I frowned as I realized I was bare footed and looked around the little island with curiosity. "You are welcome, my daughter. How was your journey on earth? "A soft feminine voice spoke to me and my head snapped up in surprise. A fair beautiful woman stood a few feet away from me, clad in the traditional Yoruba attire of white Iro, buba and gele. Exquisite multi-colored beads in different shapes and sizes adorned her braided suku, her wrists and ankles. She was bare-footed too and two young women flanked her on both side, dressed in a similar attire to mine. The ladies were staring at me with a solemn expression on their faces and they looked terribly familiar. I had a feeling we have met before now and I frowned as I got to my feet. "Is this another dream? Am i dead again? "I mumbled under my breath and the woman smiled at me.”No, you are not dead. You are just back in your world. I asked you to go and give joy to a wanting couple but they didn't even appreciate my gift. She didn't treat you well and they didn’t keep their promises to me.”Her face tightened with displeasure. "No, she didn't treat me well but I love her .Her husband love me very much and he treated me like his little angel. I don’t know the circumstances of their separation but I want the chance to go back and find out and bring them back together again if possible. They are both miserable. Please give me the chance to go back again and make amends, mother. "I held out my hand to her pleadingly.” I am sorry, my daughter but your time is up. Your fiancee is waiting for you and your wedding date has been fixed long time ago. "She said with a sad smile as she pointed and i looked towards the direction she pointed to see him, smiling and waiting. He was so beautiful and my heart wavered. "Welcome, onitemi. I am so happy to see you. "He strolled towards me with long confident steps and i couldn't help admiring him. Yinka seemed so far away until his voice seemed to penetrate the void around us and vibrated in my world. "I love you, olajumoke. Please don't leave me, I can't live without you. "I turned round in a circle, distracted and searching for him and he appeared briefly on the edge of my vision before disappearing again. “Why did you allow this to happen, mother? I should have let him die when he was far away from her.” He turned to mother, anger turning his beautiful face into a snarl. "Adeyi, His love for her kept him alive and protected him against your wrath. I am afraid you are fighting a lost battle. He took her virginity with love and lost his heart to her. If she doesn't marry him, he won't know peace in his life. "Mother said sadly as she watched me with indulging eyes. “You have always been strong willed, Adeni and you are fond of breaking rules. That is why you were so eager to go to the earth. You were not supposed to sleep with any man at all. "She said reprovingly and i bowed my head in shame. "I am sorry, mother." I mumbled under my breath. “She was able to break all rules because her earth mother didn't keep her promise and carried out no sacrifice for her. That is why there is no strong tie between them. Forgive her, mother. "The taller of the girls on her right side said and winked at me. I hide a smile and shuffled my feet. "What am I going to do, mother? I have waited so long for her to come back. They are expecting us in my kingdom. "Adeyi looked at mother with a despairing look and mother sighed tiredly. “She still cannot go back …. "Mother’s voice trailed off as Yinka's voice penetrated the void again and this time around he appeared in a wavering form a few feet away from us.

"Mother, don't let her go back. She has a duty to fulfill here. "Adenike appeared beside Adeyi, clad in the same attire like the rest of us but pure red gleaming beads adorned her hair. “Adeyi, what are you still waiting for? Take her and go away. She doesn't even know who she is. "She glared at me. “Stop being selfish, Tito. You sent her back before mother was ready to take her because you want to have her man. If he doesn’t have her, he won’t have you. Why are you bothering yourself? "The tall slim lady came to my rescue once again. “I can make him have me either he wants to or not. This is none of your business, Aweni.” She said coldly. “That is deliberately breaking the rules and you know mother’s wrath for that. You will be yank back so fast you will wonder what hit you.” Aweni said with a smirk and the other ladies snickered behind their palms as their eyes twinkled in merriment. “I want him and I will have him. She has always taken everything that belongs to me even before she was sent to earth. Can’t you remember I met Adeyi the day we went to the stream and brought him home? He saw her and dump me very fast. This is my pay-back time. I want revenge.” Adenike pointed at Aweni and fire sparkled from her finger. "She doesn't even love him.” I murmured under my breath, staring at the anguish on yinka's wavering face. “I am sorry for hurting you, Tito. I didn’t realize you wanted me that way and maybe you got your revenge after all. She is in love with someone else.” Adeyi said with a miserable look, staring at me. I glanced at him and sighed. It was a messy triangle. Adenike ignored all of us and focused her attention on Aweni. "Stop showing off, Tito. Just because you have the highest rank doesn't mean you should intimidate us with your power. Mother will make the final decision. "Aweni said saucily as she waved her hand casually in the direction of Adenike and the fire on the tip of her finger died abruptly. “Stop quibbling, children.” Mother said mildly and silence reign, even as Adenike'eyes shoot dagger at Aweni for being on my side. "This boy will not let us rest as long as we keep adeni here and you won't enjoy her either.” She turned to Adeyi and he moaned with despair. “I know his mother and she was a favourite member before i let her go. I will take pity on the poor boy and send Adeni back to earth but not without a replacement. "A small mean smile danced on her lips and she flicked her finger at me. Pain erupted in my stomach and I screamed loudly as I was flung into the air.

"She is breathing again.” Yinka screamed loudly in excitement as I jacked upright in the hospital bed, destabilizing all the tubes that were attached to my body and the nurses rushed in. "My baby! I am losing her!” I continued screaming, clutching my stomach as pain radiated through my body and blood flowed down my thigh. "Calm down baby. You will be fine. "He said, holding my hand as i was rushed into the theatre and he was banned from the operating room.

I lost the baby and was in a coma for several days. It was midnight when i opened my eyes to see my parent who were on my left side and yinka on my right, all of them were fast asleep. "Take it easy, Adeni.” A soft feminine voice chuckled beside me and I froze as I looked up sharply to see a nurse beside me. She was smiling. Then it struck me why she looked so familiar. She was part of the team who did my first D and C years ago in Ibadan. "Am i hallucinating? Aweni? We have met before in Ibadan. "I was whispering as I stared at her. “That is right. That abortion was your punishment for sleeping with him but my misson was to make sure you didn't die then and now. We have always look out for you. Congratulations. You are free to live your life on earth but watch out for Tito. She doesn't forgive easily and she never forget a grudge. "She told me as she effectively carried out her duties of detaching tubes and replacing drips. “What happened to Adeyi? "I whispered curiously. “He will be fine. He is handsome and wealth. There are many willing beautiful females waiting to take your place in his life. You have a rare one here, take care of him. His love saves you. "She gave Yinka a fond smile, picked up her tray and walked out of the ward.
'"Who are you taking to?” Yinka opened his eyes and took my hand. "I was talking to the nurse. How are you, baby? "I asked with a smile and he grinned tiredly at me. “I should be asking you that question. I am fine. I am sorry about the baby. "He said solemnly. “It is alright. She replaced my life. It was painful though, losing another baby before they have a chance to live. "I said sadly and he frowned as he sat on the bed beside me. “Have you been pregnant before now?” He asked curiously. "I discovered i was pregnant after you left and have to get rid of it because I couldn’t think of any other option.” I said quietly as I stared at him. "Oh my baby! I am so sorry. "He hugged me and i held on to him. “ Hope you are not tired of all the dramas in my family?” I said in a teasing voice. “All families have their own drama, either spiritual or otherwise and we all have skeletons in our cupboards. I don’t know what I will have done if you have stopped breathing totally and I don’t want to take any more chance. Please marry me as soon as possible. I can't afford to lose you. "He said pleadingly and i searched his face for moment. “ Is that a proposal? "I teased. “Well, I don't have a ring here but we can always get one later. Will you marry me? Please complete my life. "He said solemnly. “Thank you for not giving up on us. I love you and I will marry you. "Contentment and happiness flow through me as I hugged him. “Thank God. "He buried his head in my neck and tears filled my eyes. “Congratulations my baby. "My dad said with a smile and stood up to hug me too. “ Congratulations dear. "My mother echoed with a smile and i smiled back.

A frigid wind blew through the room and on the wall was written: The battle line has just being drawn. Watch out!” I sighed loudly. “That is Adenike. Where is she? ’I looked at my parent and they exchanged looks. “We can’t say at the moment. Both of you went limp and stopped breathing. We got an ambulance and brought you here. It was my turn to stay with her that night. I went to the loo and came back to find her gone. I panicked and called the nurse on duty. She just smiled at me and said she is alright. I don’t even know why we believe her but we do.” My dad said solemnly. “Aweni.” I murmured to myself. “She is fine and will be back .Don’t worry yourself too much. We have a wedding to prepare for.” I grinned at them and they laughed with relieve.

Is the wedding going to hold? Where did Yinka and Jumoke’s father meet in the past? What causes the rift between her mother and father?
These are the questions that will be answered in DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES (SERIES II). Thank you for reading and God bless you.

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : UNUSUAL REUNION!

“Mum, calm down. What do you mean?” I asked in a calm voice, even as my heart picked up speed in fear and I realized my free hand was trembling when Yinka picked it between his own and rubbed it gently. “Please can you come over as soon as possible as I can’t discuss this over the phone?” She said with a shuddering breath. “Okay mum. I will come as soon as possible. Please calm down in the meantime and take a deep breath.” I said with a smile. “Olajumoke, Please pray hard. I know we won’t have gotten into this trouble if we have had total faith in God and you are completely innocent. I know I have not been the best of mother to you but I want the chance to remedy that and I don’t want to lose you now. See you soon.” Her voice ended in a teary whisper before she went offline and that sound tore through me more than anything in the world. It also scared me as I wondered if my existence on earth was about to come to an ending truly because of my parent’s lack of faith and patience. Do I really belonged to a deity somewhere, a small God that believed he or she could truly control my existence on earth? The thought went through my mind and gave me a funny feeling.

“What is the problem, Jummy?” Yinka asked in a quiet voice and I jolted when I remembered I had a company. “It is a family issue. I think I have to start going home now.” I said as I got to my feet shakenly and he did the same as he looked at my face searchingly. “If you honestly believe I will allow you to go home with this state of mind, then you don’t know me. I will pick my car key. Excuse me.” He went to his bedroom and came back within a few seconds. “I am going to my mother’s place.” I told him as we got into his car. “I know the place. I was there a few weeks ago.” He grinned at me as he turned on the Ignition key. “It is not funny, Yinka. I have enough on my plate than to be adding this issue with my sister on top of it. What will my mother think if she sees both of us together? She will just confirm I am the wayward girl she has always thought I am.”I said bitterly and he slowed down as he gave me a long thorough look. “If your mother actually have that kind of thought in her head about you, then she is not worthy to be your mother.” He said quietly and I turned to look out of the window. “You don’t even understand a thing and I don’t know how you can vouch for me when you have not even seen me in years. People change.” I mumbled under my breath. “Please make me understand. Jummy, you had better get used to me being part of your life because as long as I know you still have feelings for me, I won’t allow you to walk out of my life.” He said firmly as he pulled into the road and joined the moving traffic.
My mother was in the sitting room when we got home and she got to her feet with a frown when she saw Yinka beside me. “Good morning ma. I know you were wondering what I am doing with Jumoke when you saw me with Adenike a few weeks back. Jumoke was mine before we got separated years ago by fate and it was through Adenike we met again.” He said solemnly. “How is Adenike taking this? Is she aware of this latest development?” She asked as she directed the question at me. “I tried to explain to her on the phone this morning but I am afraid she caught us in a rather compromising position this morning in his house and I am sorry for hurting her.” I said quietly, waiting for the tongue lash that I was sure would come. “What were you doing in his house? I understand you know each other in the past but since Adenike is already engaged to him, I don’t think you should be involved with him again.” She said in a quietly accusing voice and I felt tension headache started building at base of my head. “I broke up with Adenike before I went back to Jumoke and I am not even sure Jumoke is ready to take me back because she is more concerned about her relationship with her sister for now. She is my other half and I will fight for her with my last breath.” He paused, holding my mother’s gaze until she looked away and he pushed me forward. “I believe there are more important issues to discuss for now, so I will excuse myself. I am waiting outside.” He squeezed my hand as he turned to leave the room. “I want you to stay please.” I held on to his hand as I walked to a two settee sofa and my mother watched us as we sat down directly opposite her. “Mum, how was your trip to ile-ife?” I asked quietly and she sat down with a heavy sigh. “The old man who attended to us when we visited years ago is dead and it was his son I met. I explained everything to him and after consulting the oracle, he said the woman goddess is very angry with us. He said we were supposed to have brought you back to the shrine several times as you were growing up for different sacrifices we promised her and now she is very angry. She want you back and she gave me seven days to deliver you to her shrine or disaster will struck.” She ended in a shuddering breath. “Were you aware of all these promises you made when you were desperate for a child?” I asked curiously and she nodded slowly. “I know and I remember but I didn’t take it serious. It comes to my mind periodically but I just ignored it and pray to God for deliverance.” She said with a faint shrug. “What other alternatives do we have because I am not ready to die?” I asked firmly and she hesitated briefly. “The other alternative is to exchange your life with that of someone very close to your heart and who loves you from the depth of his/her heart. I volunteered to do that because we were the one that started the whole issue and you were completely innocent. He said we don’t have the kind of bond the woman goddess needed between us and he even doubted if I was the one who gave birth to you. I would love to change that.” She told me quietly. It is too late for that, mum. I thought in my mind. “Mum, where is dad? I have wanted to ask you for a long time but I didn’t want to bother you. He went for vacation but never came back and his numbers were not going through. You were both responsible for the issue on ground and he should be here too to get it sorted out.” I asked in a heated voice. “I have wondered why it took you so long to ask since both of you have always being close. It was a messy issue. I caught him in bed with another woman and I asked him to choose between both of us. He choose her.” She said with a slight shrug and I sat upright abruptly. “Stop it right there, Jummy.” Yinka spoke for the first time since my mother started her narration and I clamped my mouth shut as I glared at him. My mother’s eyes nearly came out of the sockets as she stared at the man who just shut me up with one sentence. I slumped back on the seat and tried not to sulk. “I asked for a divorce on the ground that he shouldn’t contact the children and he should not let you know about what happened between us. He agreed. I did what I think is the best for us all.” She said as she spread her hands for emphasis. “You always know what is best for everyone.” I mumbled under my breath but Yinka heard me and gave me a sharp look. “Mum, I know I am not part of the family and I am not supposed to interfere but since I am here, I will give you my own opinion. Whatever might have happened between you and dad, Jumoke is his daughter and he has the right to know what is going on, considering it is a life and death issue. ”Yinka said quietly. “I know. It is a complicated issue but I will let him know and I hope we will find a solution to the issue on ground. We have lost a day already.” She said in a trembling voice. “Please calm down. Nothing bad will happen to Jumoke and she won’t die young because we will grow old together.” He said with quiet confidence as he took my hand in his and I nodded numbly as the reality of the situation on ground began to sink into my mind.

Barely an hour later, the door to the sitting room opened and my father came in. “Dad, you are truly here?” I asked in amazement as I got to my feet slowly. “Yes, baby. I am here. Come over here.” He stood just inside the sitting room door and held out his arms. I rushed into them and he hugged me tight, rocking from side to side the way he used to do when I was a child. Tears filled my eyes and spilled down my cheek, socking into his t-shirt. “I miss you so much, dad. Why did you stay away for so long without any sort of communication? “I asked in a trembling voice. “I am sorry, baby. It was a complicated issue and there is an agreement between myself and your mother that I have to respect but I kept tab with your progress. You won’t die young, Olajumoke, you are my precious baby and you did nothing to deserve this. I will gladly replace your life with mine if there is no other way around this.” He said solemnly as he held me at arm’s length and cupped my cheek in his palms. “I love you, Dad. I truly hope there won’t be any loss of life because I don’t want to lose you.” I said on a sob as I hugged him again. “This is amazing. Uncle Dewale?” Yinka had gotten to his feet and was staring at my dad in awe. “Yinka, what are you doing here?” My father asked with a frown as he moved me to his side and looked at him. “It is a small world indeed. I didn’t even know you have a family here in Lagos.” Yinka said with a small smile, looking from me to my father and back again. “Where did you guys meet? How did you know each other?” I asked curiously but before anyone could talk, the door opened and Adenike came in. She looked kind of different and we all turned to look at her with different expressions on our face but she was looking at me directly and a chill went down my spine. “Olajumoke Davies, you have over-stay on this earth. They knew something like this would happen and that was why they asked me to come after you few years after you left but I have a personal mission to accomplish now. He has been waiting for you to come back and is impatient. Please go back and let me have my man. I want my man back.” She didn’t scream but her words went straight into my head and a cold freezing wind swept through the room like a blizzard. Who the hell is this stranger with snapping eyes staring at me? I thought with dread.

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : SISTER’S DISCORD!

“Did something happened between you guys to make him change his mind about your engagement?” I asked for lack of something to say as I sat up in bed. “I went to visit him and he just sat me down and said we need to talk .Then he told me that I am a good girl and deserves the best but he was sorry to tell me that he is not the man for me as his heart belongs to someone else and he has met the woman again. He was so apologetic and gentle about it and never said a word throughout the time I was abusing and cursing him.” She paused and took a shuddering breath. Damn you, Yinka! I cursed under my breath. “Sister Jummy, you used to know him right?” She asked after a moment. “Don’t even go there, Nike. Yes, I used to know him but we parted a bad term and I am not in the position to talk to him on your behalf. Please give that job to mum and I am sure she will do it well, after all they have met.” I interrupted her before the thought could finish forming on her mind. “I need you to do this for me, sister Jummy. He is my life and I can’t live without him.” Her voice caught in a hitch and I closed my eyes in despair. “Adenike, we need to see urgently to talk about this issue on ground.” I said in a firm voice. “I will come around when you are available but can you please go and talk to him first? I will send him your house address.” She said pleadingly and I realized I have forgotten how adamant she could be when she wanted something desperately. “Please don’t expect any miracle here but I will try my best.” I felt as if she had just put me between the devil and the deep blue sea. “Thank you Sister Jummy. God bless you. “She said brightly. “You are welcome. My regards to mum.” I said in a dull voice and flopped back on my pillow. I tried to go back to sleep but it refused to come and I finally got out of bed.

A wave of dizziness hit me and I sat back on the bed abruptly. I stood up very slowly and made my way to the bathroom like someone walking on eggshells. Immediately I finished brushing my teeth, I felt bile rose up in me and I threw up into basin so vigorously that it left my body weak and trembling. I dragged myself back into the bedroom and put a call through to Ruth immediately. “Babe, where are you?” I asked in a tired voice as I lay down in bed. “I am in the shopping hall to get my toiletries. What is wrong with you?’ She asked and I could hear the concern in her voice. “I have been very sick. Can you please come over when you are through?” I asked as I closed my eyes against another nausea. “I am coming right away. Hold on, I will be right there.” She said quietly. “Please get a home pregnancy test kit when you are coming.” I said frankly and she burst into hearty laughter as I put an end to the call. I fell asleep and woke up to her consistent knocking on the door. I went to open the door on rubbery feet and promptly sank down unto the rug.

“How are you feeling now? Have you taken any breakfast?” She asked in concern as she knelt down beside me and put her palm on my forehead. “You are not running temperature. What could be wrong?” She asked in a puzzled voice. “Did you come with the home pregnancy test kit?” I sat up and she smiled in amusement as she brought it out. “Are you seriously thinking of taking that test?” She grinned at me and followed me into the bathroom. Ten minutes later, we sat opposite each other, dumb-founded! I tested positive.
“That is Femi’s baby right? This is very scary, Jummy.’ Ruth was practically whispering. “Yes, it is. That is part one of my scary story. Part two is here.” I said with a sigh and told her about Yinka. “Are you still in love with him after all these years?” She asked with a frown and I was silent for some time. “Jummy, answer my question. Is that why you have been subconsciously moving from one relationship to another?” She asked quietly. “That is not the point, Ruth. He just dumped my sister because he wants to be with me. How am I going to sort that?” I asked instead, tactfully avoiding her question but I should have known I couldn't fool her for long. “His relationship with your sister is none of your business if you don’t have feelings for him. What do you feel for him Jummy?” She asked quietly, looking at me directly and I sighed heavily. "It has been long and I really can't say but if I have the chance, I won't mind finding out what we can offer to each other again.” I said sadly and it was her turn to sigh. "Now we have an issue on ground. You and your sister are in love with the same man and he obviously want you. I still think you need to talk to your sister first before anything else. "She said quietly as she picked up a cup of ice cream and gave it to me. “Do you think she will believe me if I told her we were lovers and I still have feelings for him? "I asked doubtfully as I picked up a spoon and scrapped ice cream into my mouth. “I can't answer that question, Jummy. You guys are sisters but I don't think you are that close. It takes trust to believe someone. Does she trust you enough to believe you? "She asked bluntly. “I honestly don't know. My mother never give us the chance to be sisters. She is always coming between us and it was as if she is always protecting her from me. I was always the bad girl, even when I am innocent. "I said bitterly. “I love you the way you are, girlie.”Ruth smiled as she reached out and tweaked my nose playfully. “Thank you. I think I should go and talk to Yinka first and maybe if I tell him I am carrying another man's baby, he will back off. What do you think? “I looked at her hopefully and she shrugged. “If he is as determined as I think he is, I don’t think it will make much difference but you can give it a trial and that brought us back to square one. What are we going to do about that baby? "She asked worriedly. “I don't know and I refuse to think about it at the moment but I won't go through another abortion. "I said firmly. “Okay. Is there any channel featuring an action movie right now?” She got up and picked up the remote control. "They have used action movie swear for you seriously.” I said in an amused voice. “I don’t want to watch any romantic film that will remind me of the lack of love in my life. It will also raise my adrenaline and makes me lose weight. "She grinned at me and we burst into laughter.

Adenike sent me Yinka's home address through a text and I paid him an early morning visit at home on Sunday. He was just coming out of the bathroom and his towel was riding low on his waist when he opened the door. "What an amazing surprise! Good morning my precious One. "He grinned at me as he pulled me in and wrapped his arms around me in a warm hug. “Cut it out, Yinka. I am not here for that and please stop calling me all these pet names. I don't want it. "I said testily as I pushed him away and went to sit as far away as I could from him. "Baby, when did you become so cynical? Anyway, what can I offer you? Give me a minute please. I will be right back. "He went inside and came back with a tray of warm toast and beverages. I noticed he had changed into a knee length shorts and was relieved. "Can we eat? "He pulled up two stools beside me and sat down on one while he placed the tray on another. The scent of the fresh toast filled my nostrils and my mouth salivated. We ate breakfast in companionable silence and an air of contentment swept over me. I stood up to carry the tray to the kitchen and he collected it from me. "Have your seat, Jummy, I will take care of this. You look pale. "He pushed me down on the sofa. “I didn't sleep well. "I mumbled defensively. “I know. "He nodded with a smile and I stuck my tongue after his retreating back in a petty but satisfying gesture.
"You are here because of Adenike, right?” He said when he got back and sat down beside me. I tried to shift away but he put his arm around my shoulder in a friendly gesture and I tried not to fidget. "Yes, that was so unfair of you. How can you just dumb her like that? Is that how you have been doing to other women? "I rounded on him fiercely. “No, there was no one after you. I had affairs with other women on mutual agreement but I have not had any other relationships until Adenike and now I know the reason I dated her. It was because she looks like you. I thought I can love her the way I love you and I am glad I tried because she led me to you. I will forever be grateful and indebted to her for that but it will be unfair to both of us if I go ahead with that engagement. We will end up hating each other at the end of the day after wasting each other’s time. "He said simply and I swallowed hard. “She is in love with you, Yinka, don't you get that? "I said expressively as I turned to stare at him. “ I know she is at the moment and I am sorry for hurting her but I need my happiness too. She will get over it with time. Jummy, look me in the eyes and tell me you don't love me or still have feelings for me. "He said quietly, looking into my eyes. "Don't be ridiculous. We are not talking about me. Moreover, I am carrying another man’s baby, so there is no space for you in my life." I said with a triumphant smile. “I don’t expect you to be without a man all these years unless all men have turned blind. Why are you not married to him? "He asked quietly. “It is complicated and it is none of your business.” I snapped at him. "I am not bothered with the baby. Tell me you have no feelings for me and I will know if you are lying. "He said softly as he raised my jaw and grazed his thumb over my lower lips. I swallowed hard and tried to move away. He simply picked me up and sat down on the sofa with me on his laps. "What are you doing? I am not here for this. "I said weakly even as my heart picked up speed and I knew deep in my heart that I wanted his hands on me. "I love you, Jummy and I want you. Please give me a space in your heart again. "He murmured against my lips and flicked his tongue over my lips. I trembled and he slipped his tongue in as he gathered me close. I hummed in contentment as I snuggled closer and he shifted both of us until I was lying beneath him on the sofa. The kiss went on and on and I lost track of time until the sound of the door opening in the distance penetrated through the fog in my mind and Adenike's voice followed.

"I can't believe this. What the hell is going on here? "She screamed at the top of her voice and I felt as if the floor should open and swallowed me up. Yinka broke the kiss and I hide my face in his chest. "Sister Jummy, Is this the same man you told me you parted on a bad term? So you can bring yourself so low as to be sleeping with my fiancée? You are such a cheap LovePeddler. "She said coldly and Yinka rolled to his feet abruptly. "If you ever talk to your sister like that again, I am going to slap you.” He said angrily and she looked shocked. "Are you defending her? Are you choosing her over me? "She asked in shock. “That is right. She is the best thing that ever happened to me and I will advise you to stop being a spoilt brat if you want to get your own man. "He said frankly. “I still find it difficult to believe this. "She murmured to herself and turned to me. I stood up to my full height before she could utter a word. "You can call me whatever you want, I honestly don't care. I was trying to tell you this over the phone. Yinka was my first man and it seemed the feelings between us is still very much alive. I am sorry you have to witness this and for the fact that my past is obviously causing you so much heartache. I sincerely hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me.” I said quietly. "I hate you and if I don't see you again for the rest of my life, I will be so happy." She spat at me and stormed out again.

I sat down very slowly like an old woman and lean my head against the sofa and close my eyes with a sigh. "It is going to be okay, Jummy.”He sat beside me and took my limp hand in his. "I wish I can blame you for the lack of closeness between me and Adenike but that will be petty and deceitful of me.” I said with a weak smile and opened my eyes. "I thought the relationship between you guys should have improved by now. I remember you told me about it when we were in school. "He said with a frown. “I drifted away from home at the first opportunity and the gap between us widened with time. I have vowed to be the best mum I could be to my children. "I said quietly and he simply hugged me. “I am sorry for what you have to go through.” He murmured against my throat and I swallowed hard as my throat hurt with unshed tears. My phone rang and it was my mum. Has Adenike gotten home so fast? I thought in wonder as I looked at Yinka who was giving me a questioning look and picked the call.

"Hello mum. How are you? "I asked solemnly. “I am not fine. I just came back from Ile-Ife. Jumoke, your nightmare issue is a matter of life and death. A life has to be exchanged for yours, if not, I am going to lose you soon. "Her voice ended in a sob and I felt as if my life had just come to an end.

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : FATE!

Olayinka Olaboye was a final year Agric-economics student in the University of Ibadan when I got admission into the institution. I was the typical jambite, savoring the sweetness of freedom for the first time in my life and was a regular student in class. I had my fair share of admirers and was bouncing through the campus without a care in the world until I stumbled over the first hitch. I failed a mid-semester GNS test and I was shocked! How could that be? How can I fail GNS of all courses? I fumed inwardly as I matched straight to the lecturer’s office after receiving my test script. A female student was coming out of his office, rubbing a stray tear from her face when I got there but I only gave her a fleeting thought, wondering what could be wrong with her before I knocked the door briefly and walked in.

“Olajumoke Davies, you finally find your way to my office. How are you?” He smiled at me, his eyes crinkling at the corner in amusement. “I am fine sir. How are you too?” I bowed my head slightly in curtsey, even though I was surprised he noticed me enough to know my full name among the sea of faces in his class. “I am fine. Have your seat. How may I be of help to you?” He leaned forward and I thought I saw his gaze rested on my breasts briefly but assigned it to figment of my imagination. “Sir, I came to complain about my test result. I don’t think this belong to me because I am quite sure I did quite well in your test.” I sat down and waved the paper in the air. “If you did so well, why did you fail then?” He asked coolly. “I don’t know. That is why I came to see you. Probably there is an error or mix-up somewhere sir.” I said quietly and he laughed softly. “You sound like a confident lady and I like that. I have been watching you for sometimes and I knew this is the only way to get you to my office.” He got up and came round to sit on the desk beside me. “What do you mean sir?” I asked nervously as I looked up at him and tried to move my chair away. Dear God! Don’t let it be what I am thinking. I can’t take this again, I prayed desperately in my mind. “I like you a lot and will like us to be an item. You are a beautiful girl.” He grinned at me as he caressed my cheek and I slapped his hand away as I got to my feet in anger. “Sir, I am old enough to be your daughter and I am new in school. You are supposed to be a father figure to me. ”I said coldly and watched him roar with laughter. “Do I look like your father or you have forgotten you left him at home when you are coming here? You are new and fresh and that is why I want to lay first claim to your special accessories before those young boys start chasing you around. My dear, this is not the private secondary school you are coming from and you will still fail your exam if care is not taken.” He said with a small smile as he lay his palm on my left breast and squeezed. I saw red and spat in his face. “Take your filthy hand off me, you old fool.” I pushed him away and walked out of his office.

The anger drained out of me on my way to the hostel to be replaced by despair and misery and tears filled my eyes. I got to my room and climbed into bed without undressing. My bunk mate, Eniola Olaboye came in shortly after I got into bed. She was a final year Agric-economy student and was few years older than I was. She tapped me on the back gently. “Jummy, what is wrong? Turn around and let me see your face.” She said firmly. I turned to face her and promptly burst into tears again. I told her what transpired between me and the lecturer and she listened with an angry look on her face. “He is an idiot. He needs to be taught a lesson. Go and wash your face and we will go and see a cousin of mine in the male hostel.” She said quietly. I did as I was told and that was how I met Yinka.

The attraction between us was instantaneous and mutual. He listened and he was empathic and he took action. He involved his friends and I was persuaded to go back to the lecturer with a tape recorder and drew him out. I brought out the naughty part of me and went to work. He was caught red-handed and subsequently relieved of his job. Yinka persuaded me to press charge against him in addition to the fact that the school was suing him on so many charges, some female students came out to testify against him but I refused. Olayinka didn’t know he just helped me close the door to a dark part of my life that I have been carrying with me for so long. I was relieved and I was grateful and the relationship blossomed between the two of us. We become inseparable in the school and almost anyone that knew both of us knew we were dating exclusively. He was the first man I ever slept with and the memory of it lingered in my mind for a long time.

He was not in his room when I got there after the day’s lectures that late afternoon but I was so tired that I just dropped my bag on the floor and got into bed. I slept off almost immediately and when I opened my eyes, the room was in darkness. The temperature had also dropped and I realized that it was raining. I rolled over to get out of bed and his arm came round me. “Welcome back to the land of the living! I didn’t want to wake you up when I came in.”He chuckled against my neck. I stretched and purred like a cat. “Welcome back. I truly enjoy this nap.it was a life saver.” I grinned into the darkness, hugging his arm to me and nestled deeper into him. “Jummy, have mercy. You are killing me here.”He groaned as his fingers traced patterns over my right breast and my heart picked up speed. He turned me around and kissed my eye lids, my nose and finally my lips. I breathed a sigh of relieve and deepened the kiss. He explored every part of my mouth thoroughly as his hands found its way underneath my t-shirt and unclipped my bra at the back. It was a new and welcome sensation as fire seemed to pool in my groin. I moaned involuntarily as his mouth and hands played havoc with my senses. He put a stop to the kiss briefly and sent my top and bra flying over my head and engulfed me in his embrace. “I love your boobs. They are so soft and firm” He crooned sweet words as he squeezed my breasts softly and licked the nipples with tongues. I moaned and brought his head back to my mouth.” You are so sweet, my baby” He crooned against my lips and kissed me deeply. He inserted his leg between my thighs and hiked up my short skirt. His hand skimmed down my body in a light caress, pulled aside my thong and slipped his finger in. I stiffened involuntarily and my body jerked as I struggled to be set free. “Easy, baby. I am not going to hurt you, I promise.” He broke the kiss and looked deep into my eyes. I gulped and tried to relax my body. His finger moved gently and softly in me and I grew very wet. “Jummy, Are you a virgin?” He asked in awe and I nodded mutely. “Oh my baby! I can stop if you want me to, though it is not going to be easy but I will.” He engulfed me in a warm passionate hug and I smiled, holding him tight. “I know but I want you.’ I murmured against his chest. I lost my virginity and my heart to him that night.

Our love waxed stronger .Final exams and project came in the second semester and it was time for him to leave the school for another phase of his life. It was a bitter-sweet events for both of us and we tried to spend all our waking moments together as much as possible. The real blow came when he called me during the session break and told me he had to leave the country because his father wanted him to go and continue his education over-seas almost immediately. I sneaked out of the house the day he was leaving and went to meet him at the airport. His parent were not too happy when they saw me but I didn’t care and begged him not to leave. I sat beside him as we waited for his flight to be called and watched him went through immigration with tears streaming down my face. I left the airport that night with a heavy heart and that was the last time I saw Olayinka Olaboye.

He communicated with me regularly for a few weeks but it stopped after a while and all my effort to reach him was in vain. Another session began in school and I was glad to go back. I was so immersed in my misery and longing for him that I didn’t noticed that my monthly period hadn’t come for over two months. Lectures had started and school activities had commenced fully. I started feeling feverish on and off and bouts of dizziness assailed me. I eventually went to the hospital to see the doctor and the doctor confirmed I was pregnant after asking a few questions. I went to take a pregnancy test in obvious denial and the truth stared in the face as it came out positive!

I went back to the hostel like a zombie and stayed there for 3 days, feeling hopeless, helpless and wondering what next to do. My mother would kill me, was the only I could think of until I brought myself out of my shell and took my life in hand. I went back to the hospital and scheduled an appointment for a D and C procedure. The doctor tried to persuade me out of it but when I threatened to go elsewhere, he finally agreed and I emptied my bank account to get it done. It was painful and I screamed the whole hospital down in the process. I was on admission at the hospital for two weeks, recuperating as I bled profusely after the operation. When I came out of the hospital, I was a shadow of myself and I was a new person inside of me.I left the naïve girl at the hospital and never looked back!

“Olayinka Olaboye, it was great meeting you again and welcome to my family. Do feel at home.” I enthused with a fake smile and he gave me a confused look. “Adenike, take care of yourself. We will see and talk later. I need to get somewhere very urgently.” I said breezily as I hurried out of the house and three pairs of eyes followed me in confusion. I went for a long walk and didn’t come back until very late in the night. I crept into my bedroom and went straight to sleep.

A strange number called me during lunchbreak the following week in the office and immediately, I picked the call, I knew there was trouble. “Jummy, don’t bother to reject that call unless you want me to come into your office. Come out and let’s talk. ”Yinka said firmly and I sighed heavily. “I am coming.” I said in a resigned voice and rolled my eyes skyward as I walked out of the office. He was standing beside his car right in front of my office building and the old feelings I thought were buried came rushing back in unexpected waves. I paused and closed my eyes in despair. Help me, Dear God, He is no longer mine, I thought miserably and when I opened my eyes, he was staring at me as if he could see straight into my soul. “The feeling is mutual, Jummy and I am not going to deny it.”He confirmed my suspicion as he moved forward and engulfed me in a warm hug. “I miss you so much, baby” He breathed me in and I stood rigidly in his embrace. “Let’s go for lunch and talk.” He led me to his car and I got in without a word. I stared out through the window on our way to the restaurant and wasn’t surprised he still remembered my favorite food. We ate in companionable silence.

“Why did you stop calling?” I blurted out suddenly and he sighed heavily as he pushed his plates away. “I am sorry, baby. I got mixed up with the wrong gang in school and was thrown into the jail. I was denied all forms of contact with the outside world and only selected member of my family were allowed to visit. I won’t bored you with the sordid detail but it took my dad three years and lots of connection to get me out. I called your number immediately I got back home but it wasn’t available and I got in contact with Eniola. She gave me the numbers of some of your friends she knew when you were in school but none of them knew your whereabouts. I was devastated and came back to Nigeria at the first available opportunity. I searched for you, Love, I truly do.” He said quietly. “Fate is a bastard. I moved on when you stopped communicating with me.” I smiled grimly and dashed a tear away. “The first day I saw Adenike in the shopping mall, I thought you were the one until she faced me and I realized I was wrong. I want you back, Jummy. I am not going to let you go again. ”He said with quiet determination. “It is too late, Yinka. Adenike is my only sister and you are already engaged to her. I can’t do that to her .Let just forget the past and moved on.” I said urgently and he signaled for the bill. “You are joking, Jumoke. I will drop you in your office and will pick you up at the closing hour.” He said with quiet determination as he got to his feet and led me out with his hand possessively on my waist. I left the office before closing hour and refused to pick his calls.

Adenike’s call woke me up on Saturday morning and when I picked up, she was sobbing on the phone. “Sister Jummy, He broke up with me. He said he is no longer interested in our relationship any longer. What should I do?” She cried bitterly and my heart dropped in dread. What is this, dear God?

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : REVELATION!

“Ruth, I hope you have arranged for the transport that will take us home because I can’t trek home please?” I whispered as she opened her back-pack and gave me a pankere (dried cane) while she held the second one. “I did my part too and also bribed his security man well. He let me in. My heart is galloping.” She put her free hand on her chest and grinned at me. “There is nothing like the feeling of cane on a wet body.” I giggled like a naughty kid and she hide a cough behind her palm. The shower stopped running and I cleared my throat. “Baby, can I come in?” I asked in a sultry voice as I turned the door knob and stepped in. “Sure, sweets. Please come in.” Adewale answered with a smile as he turned towards the door and the smile froze in place when he saw Ruth came in after me.

“What the hell is going on here?” He asked in a blustering voice as he reached for a towel and Ruth snatched it away. “Well, you look great in the nude.” I gave him a wicked smile and he shrank back against the wall. “You cheating son of a bitch. You think you can cheat on me with my friend and go scot free.” Ruth said coldly as she approached him and he raised up his hand. “Ladies, please take it easy. I can explain, let’s sit down and talk this out amicably.” He said in a persuading voice, trying to smile. “Does this place look like a boardroom to you?” I gave him the first stroke on the thigh with great relish and he yelped out loud. “Coward! Come out and play, lover boy!” Ruth gave him the second one and he lunged towards her with another yelp. I gave him another one on the butt and he scrambled out of the bath, rubbing his body frantically. We followed him into his bedroom with strokes of cane that never ceased raining on his wet nude body and watched his smooth skin developed into red painful welts. When the canes broke into two and he curled up in a corner of the room, begging and howling like a baby, we ran out of his house, howling with laughter like two lunatics and met the cab-man who was fast asleep just down the road. He drove us to Ruth’s house which was closer and we were still laughing when we went to bed.

The nightmare came again and this time, it was stronger and looked so real. It was warm and the sun was shining but it was very gentle on the skin. I wore a cotton t-shirt and shorts but my feet were bare. I sat on the edge of the elevated bank of the river on the brown grass and my legs were dangling in the flowing river. I wasn’t thinking of anything in particular as I gazed towards the spot where the sun hit the surface of the water and the glow seemed to warm my heart for no apparent reason. He came like he always did and sat down beside me. I didn’t look at his face but I could feel his steady gaze on my face and I felt resentment built up in me because he just shattered my solitude. “What do you want from me?” I asked after sometimes but still refused to look at him. “You look more beautiful every day.” He paused and I could hear the smile in his voice, I frowned. “I think it is right time I come for what is mine.” He added after a moment. “I am not yours and will never be yours. Please go away and stay away from me. Leave me to live my life please.” I said coldly as I withdrew my feet from the suddenly cold water and folded it at the knees to wrap my arms around it protectively. “What do you think would have happen to you if I have left you on your own? Shade is just a messenger. Stop being childish, Onitemi”He said in a chiding voice and I vaulted to my feet in anger. “What is it with all of you? Let me live my life the way I want it please.” I screamed down at him and his face was blurry at best. He laughed, a warm soothing sound and I gritted my teeth in anger. “I am coming and when I do, I don’t want to see that thing in you.” He said quietly. “No, it is mine. Leave me alone, go away!” I screamed and screamed until I felt someone put a hand over my mouth and shook me awake.

“Jummy, you are dreaming. Wake up please!” Ruth’s urgent, frantic voice penetrated my mind and I jerked upright, breathing heavily. “I am dreaming, right?” I asked as I took her arms, seeking for assurance and she nodded with a worried look. “Dear God! I cursed the day I met Femi.” I said in a shattered voice as I dropped back in bed and closed my eyes in anguish. “Has it been a recurring dream?” Ruth asked quietly as she stroked her palm over my sweaty brow and I nodded mutely. “I thought it was because of my experience at those ritualist shrine. It started since I was discharged from the hospital like every few days but this past week, it has been almost every day. Once I close my eyes, I see him.” I opened my eyes and stared at her. “Is it a spirit husband?” She asked quietly and I cringed visibly. “God forbid bad thing. I don’t know who he is and I sincerely don’t want to know. It’s so weird.” I shuddered visibly. “Ever since you meet shade, all these events should have changed your mind and tell you that the supernatural exist. I still insist you should talk to your mum.” She said with a faint smile as she pulled the bedspread up and lay down beside me. We slept off after a while.

It was my younger sister’s call that woke up me and I squinted at the phone with displeasure. Adenike was my immediate younger sister and my only sister but we were never close because my mother seemed to favor her throughout our growing years. She got a job in a marketing company shortly after her youth service corp and the last time we spoke was the day I called to congratulate her on her new job. I knew she must have visited me when I was in the hospital but it was when I was still unconscious and I never called to thank her. Guilty conscience pushed me to pick the call on the third ring and I sat up in bed.

“How are you, Nike?” I asked groggily in a low voice so as not to wake Ruth. “I am getting married, sister jummy. He proposed last night and I said yes.” Adenike gushed over the phone and I couldn’t help smiling. “Congratulations dear. I am so happy for you.” I said with a smile, even though I wasn’t sure what I was feeling at the moment. “Thank you. I am so happy, it feels as if I am dreaming.” I could practically see her happy grin. “Wake up, it is real! So when can I meet the lucky dude?” I asked with a smile. “I can bring him to your house any time you are at home. How is your health now, Sister Jummy? I am so sorry about your relationship with Uncle Femi.” She said in a sober voice after a moment and I winced as I watched Ruth stirred to life. “It is in the past please. Life goes on. There is enough time to meet your fiancée. Let me know when you choose the wedding date and we will rock Eko together. That wedding party will be the talk of town for months.” I said, getting into my elements and she giggled happily. “I trust you, my big sister. I will keep you updated.” She laughed heartily and I joined her, then we both hanged up. I took a deep breath and saw Ruth watching me.

“Your sister is getting married.” She stated as she sat up and I nodded as I dropped the phone on the bed. “How do you feel about it?” She asked with a smile. “Honestly, I don’t know.” I shrugged and sighed. “I am happy for her, I guess. She is my baby sister and she deserves the best” I grinned at her. “That is the spirit, dear. We will rock the party.” Ruth grinned back as she got out of bed. “I know I can count on you always.” I got out of bed too and followed her to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

I went home the following weekend and met my mother on her way out of her room. There were grey air on her temple and her steps were a bit slower than it used to be. I and Adenike took after her tall and long physique, I was fair like she was while Adenike was on the darker side like my dad but despite the fact that I looked like her younger version, we didn’t get on well. She was strict to me as a kid and my teenage years weren’t better either. She believed I was the oldest and should be an example to the others. As a result, I rebelled at every opportunity and left home at the first opportunity.

“Olajumoke, how are you? Hope you are much better now?” She came towards me with a smile and touched my cheek. “Thank you, mum. I am much better now. Are you going out?’ I asked as I moved away subtly from her touch to sit in a favorite seat in the sitting room. “I was just going for a stroll. I have been indoor since morning.” She moved to sit opposite me .I was surprised. I knew my mother was not the type to sit at home all day and was always after one business deal or another. Her hard work had paid off because she had become a very wealthy woman. “Hope you are okay? Why have you been indoor? That is quite unusual of you.” I asked casually and she was quiet for sometimes as she watched me steadily. “Time changes everything. I guess I have not had enough time for you guys and now you are all grown up.” She said wistfully and I shrugged as I fidgeted with my phone, wondering where to start from. “What is the issue, Jumoke? I know you have never find it easy to confide in me, so something must be bothering you for you to sit down there and chat with me” She said sadly. Because you have never been there when I needed you most and you never stood up for me when I needed you to, my mind screamed loudly but I said in a calm voice, “I have been having these weird dream almost on daily basis since the kidnap incidence.” I narrated the dream to her and she listened with rapt attention. “I see. Have you had other experiences before the dream?” She asked quietly and I hesitated, not wanting to tell her my experience with shade. “Go ahead, Jumoke. I know there is something else on your mind and if you tell me, it will make it easier for me to give you the answer you wanted.” She urged and I told her. “When I married your father, he was years older than I am and he was the first child in his big family. He was responsible for training his younger siblings, both the ones from his mother’s side and the step-ones. By the time, he was finally settling down, the pressure was much on him to have children as soon as possible. I couldn’t conceive the first year of our marriage and we started getting worried. We were both fine and very fertile according to the medical results we received from various test we under-gone but desperation pushed us to visit some places that shouldn’t be mentioned in broad day-light.” She took a deep breath and looked at me directly. “The last place we visited in a village in ile-ife before you were conceived, we made a covenant with whatever God it is they worshiped there, made love at the shrine in the middle of the night and went back home the following morning. I won’t go into details but I got pregnant that month and delivered you.” Her voice trembled as she stared at me and I flopped back on the seat with a weary sigh. “That man is not allowing me to rest and all my relationship with men have been hitting the rock. What are we going to do now?” I asked quietly and sat up straight when I saw her wiped tears from her face. “Mum, what is wrong? “I rushed to her side and she started crying in earnest as she turned to hug me. “I am so sorry, my daughter. I have made so many mistakes where you are concerned and I don’t know if you will ever forgive me.” She sobbed and I felt uncomfortable but continued petting her till she subsided. “It is okay, Mum. I know the root of the problem now and I will work towards finding a solution to it.” I said off-handedly and watched in confusion as more tears fell. “You are shutting me out again. “She said at last and I gave a resigned sigh. “I caused the problem and I will find the solution to it.” She said firmly as she got to her feet and went to the guest restroom to wash her face.

The sitting room door opened and Adenike came in, closely followed by a young man. They were holding hands. “Sister Jummy, How are you?” She rushed forward to hug me and I couldn’t help grinning at her. “The newest iyawo in town, how are you today?” I hugged her back and kissed her noisily on the cheek. My mother came out and watched us with a fond smile. “Good evening ma.” The young man prostrated for my mother. “How are you, my son?” Mother raised him up with a smile. “Mum, sister jummy, meet my fiancée, Olayinka Olaboye. Yinka, this is my sister and my mum.” Adenike introduced with a smile and I turned to him with a smile which froze on my face. “Olajumoke Davies, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Where have you been? ”Yinka grinned at me as he engulfed me in a warm bear hug and memories flashed between us.

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : THE PAY-BACK!

I was discharged that same afternoon and we parked my things in comfortable silence. The sun was fierce and weather was quite hot when we stepped out of the hospital premises. Fortunately, we were able to get a cab on time and by the time we got to my place, I was very tired and my body was jittery. I went straight to bed and stumbled into the cool comfortable darkness of my room.
It was pitch-dark by the time I opened my eyes and staggered into the sitting room on rubbery feet. Ruth was sprawled on the sofa, watching an action movie. She had changed into shorts and a very light sleeveless chiffon blouse. She smiled at me and rolled into a sitting position as I sat down beside her.

“Dying is a tiring business.” I mumbled under my breath and she burst into hearty laughter. “I can imagine. Please don’t try that shit again. It’s very scary. Are you ready for dinner?” She got to her feet. “Honestly, you are an angel. Please bring it, even if it is stone and sand, I will eat.” I teased with a smile as my tummy took that time to rumble angrily. “Lair. I will soon be back. Your mum called by the way and I told her you have been discharged.” Ruth said on her way to the kitchen and I didn’t bother answering her.

She served us piping hot semo from inside the cooler and rich edika-ikong soup and I ate every morsel with relish. “Please don’t go to your house again, Ruth, You are such an excellent cook.” I begged as I licked my plate, only half-joking. “I am cooking for you because you just came back from the land of the dead. If I am staying here, you will learn to enter the kitchen too” She gave me a mock glare. “Ouch! You are a sadist. Anyway, I will learn from the best and wow my future husband with my cooking skills.” I grinned at her. “You are not a bad cook too but you can learn to prepare more varieties of soup and food. Yoruba tribe doesn’t have varieties when it comes to soup please.” She said with a smile as she sat back and patted her tummy. “Well, you are quite right about that. Have you been doing these cooking for Adewale too?” I asked casually and she gave me a sharp look.

“That was low, Jummy and I don’t care for it.”She said coldly. “Well, I am not going to apologize for it, Ruth. Why did you allow that bastard to hit you? How can you take such shit from a man for crying out loud?” I asked angrily and she was silent for a while. “I am not stupid, Jummy and I know it is wrong but I am getting desperate. Don’t you understand?” She got to her feet and paced away. “I will be thirty-five years of age this year and even my younger brother has gotten married last year. Attending family functions is becoming a thing of shame as all they will be asking you is when am I going to introduce my fiancée to them” She paused and massaged her forehead. “My pastor said I have spiritual problems and I have gone for deliverance. What else can I do?” She spread out her palms as she came to stood before me and I sighed loudly. “And do you think marrying an abuser will solve the problem?” I asked quietly as I looked up at her. “He hasn’t even proposed to me and I thought if I satisfied him in every way possible, he will settle with me. How stupid of me!” She gave a bitter laugh and I vaulted to my feet. “You are not stupid, girlie, you just misjudged his character.” I gave her a tight warm hug and pulled her down on the sofa beside me. “The first time he hit me, I thought it was a mistake and he apologized almost immediately. He had this volatile temper and I always apologize for every mistake either it was my fault or not. It was as if he knew I am desperate for this relationship to hold and he kept stepping all over me.” She said with a shake of her head. “Don’t worry. I am back fully and he will pay for laying his hand on my best babe.” I said solemnly. “I trust you. I have really miss you, girl.” She grinned wickedly.

I resumed back at work and was a celebrity for full one week. The story of my kidnap had gotten to my colleagues and the miraculous way I escaped from captives. Different version of the event was circulating round my office and everyone wanted to confirm the true story from me. Even those that were not close to me on a regular day suddenly become my friend and came to lunch just when I was at the break-out. It was exciting and tiring and I joined every bit of special attention showered on me.

Adewale fabowale visited our office one sunny afternoon and we met on the stair-case on my way out for lunch. He was looking great in a pair of jeans and fitted t-shirt and a pair of expensive sun-shade adorned his face. “Wow! Is this not Jumoke Davies? You are looking great indeed.” He removed his shade and gave me a thorough once-over from the top of my braided hair that was knotted stylishly on top of my head, to my white silk fitted shirt that showed a hint of cleavage down to my black pencil skirt that molded my hips perfectly to my long smooth legs which ended in a pair of nude color high-heel sandals. “You aren’t look bad too, Mr Wale. How are you today?” I asked coyly, even as I was seething inside. “I learnt you were involved in an accident or something. How are you doing now?” He asked with obvious concern. “Thank you for your concern, Mr Wale. I am very much better now as you can see.” I flashed my gaped-teeth smile at him. “I can obviously see that. You are truly looking beautiful this afternoon. How about I take you for lunch?” He asked as he moved subtly to block my way. “I thought you are here for a purpose?” I raised an eye-brow. “Oh yes, that is true. How about dinner then? Please call me Wale.” His eyes strayed to my cleavage and back to my face. The two-timing idiot, I fumed inwardly. “Can we make it tomorrow evening, Wale? Tomorrow is Friday and we will have enough time to spend together, instead of rushing home to prepare for the following day’s work.” I shifted my body subtly. “Tomorrow is fine. I can pick you up at work around 6pm. Thank you for accepting my invite, Jummy. You just made my day.” He took my hand and placed a kiss on the back of my palm. “You are welcome, wale. See you tomorrow.” I moved past him down the stairs with subtle sway of my hips and I knew he was staring after my back.

“The bastard actually asked you out?” Ruth asked incredulously, her eyes filled with hurt as I told her when we met in the rest-room the following morning and I nodded as I applied liquid foundation to my face. “Ruth, please forget that idiot. He is not meant for you and he is definitely not husband material. He knew we are friends and he didn’t even ask after you.” I said quietly as I turned to face her and she swallowed hard. “He thought you still did not know we are dating because I told him that I am afraid to tell you and he said we should keep it between us for now till we know where we are heading. I agreed.” She raised her gaze to me and her eyes shone with unshed tears. “Ruth, are you in love with this guy?” I asked worriedly. “I don’t know but if I am, I will get over it. The two-timing bastard think he can stab me at the back. He’s seriously mistaken.” She said coldly and I heaved a sigh of relieve. “So you are game for tonight?” I asked tentatively. “Yes, we are. What are you wearing for the dinner date?” She said with a determined smile. “Just trust me on this. I will do a great job.” I grinned at her. We finished making up and went back to our duty desk.

The official closing hour in my office was 5pm but because it was Friday, most of our colleagues were still in the office at past 6 and I went to the restroom outside the office to change out of my work clothe immediately I received Wale’s call. I stepped out with my evening bag and stunned stares and long whistles followed me downstairs from my colleagues who were gisting outside and some staffs in the other companies within the same building. I didn’t even smile neither did I look at my admirers until I got to the waiting car. Wale jumped out to open the door for me and gave a whistle, long and low. “You are the bomb, Jummy!” He nodded to himself and smiled. The black long-sleeve dinner-wear clung to every curve in my body, it was high-neck at the front with a slit at the side that ended mid-thigh and the entire back was a crisscross of straps that stopped on top of my waist. “Thank you. Can we leave now before traffic stops completely?” I smiled at him and slid into the car as soon as he opened the door. He joined me at the driver’s seat and moved out. “You are truly beautiful, Jummy. “He squeezed my palm as he joined the moving traffic and I put his hand back on the steering wheel. “Please concentrate on your driving as I still have plans for this planet earth.” I said seriously and he laughed out loud. “You are the one diverting my attention but I promise to behave myself for now.” He smiled at me. “That is good to know.” I nodded as I selected a CD among the collections on his car and slot it into the player. Music filled the interior of the car and I settled back to enjoy the ride. We went to an exclusive restaurant for dinner before going to the club and had a great time, even as I put off his advances. Each time I went to the restroom, I updated Ruth about our whereabouts. We left the club at eleven pm and he took a totally unfamiliar route.

“Where are you going?” I asked in a puzzled voice. “I am taking you to my house.” He said with absolute confidence. Ruth’s voice rang in my head. “Trust me, he will want to take you straight to his home as he will assume you have enjoyed his company enough to want to sleep with him. I mistook his arrogance for self-confidence…” “You are taking me to your house without my permission?” I feigned anger as I was glad I had listen to Ruth. “Come off it, Jummy. If you don’t like me, you wouldn’t have hanged out with me after all this time I have been chasing you. Let me top the icing for you and give you a great time.” He grinned as me as he ran a finger up my exposed thigh and I slapped it away. “Even if I want to spend the night with you, curtsey demands that you ask me first.” I said coolly as he pressed down on the accelerator. “Don’t be angry, Jummy. I promise it will be worth your time.” He smiled and I gave a non-committal shrug. He lived in a big duplex in Magodo and the security guard opened the gate immediately he pressed the horn twice. He drove in and pulled up abruptly in front of the house.

“Nice building here.”I smiled as I unfastened my seatbelt. “Thank you. It is all yours for tonight.” He practically leered at me as he did the same and yanked me into his arms. “What the hell are you doing?” He kissed me before I could finish the question and I realized I needed to play smart before I ended up being raped. I pinched him hard in the rib and he released me abruptly. “Why did you do that? Haven’t you been expecting that all night?” He asked angrily as he rubbed his rib. “We are in your house and I believe you have a bedroom. Come and help me out of this tight outfit please.” I said in a sultry voice and slid out of the car. “That is my baby.” His countenance changed as he locked up the car and we went into the house. He held me by the waist and held my hips to his groin as we moved through the sitting-room area towards his bedroom. I could actually felt his bulging manhood through the thin barrier between us and I rolled my eyes skyward, trying not to look round the luxuriously furnished apartment. I turned into his arms immediately we walked into his bedroom and pressed my boobs to his chest as I linked my arms behind his neck.

“Baby, I have an idea. Go and take your bath now to wash off all the sweats from the dancing floor. I will be waiting for you.” I rubbed my lips against his and he squeezed my bum tightly. “Oh sweet, you are killing me. I will be right back” He groaned as he moved away and I hit him playfully on his bum. Immediately I heard the water running in the bathroom, I opened the door and almost collided with Ruth who was coming in. “What took you so long?” She hissed at me but her eyes were laughing as she threw my bag at me. “The idiot want to press boobs and bum.” I grinned as she helped me out of my dinner gown and I hurriedly put on a jeans trouser and t-shirt. I put my gown and shoes into my back-pack and changed into a comfortable flat sandals. “Are we ready?” She was shaking with excitement. “Let’s go.” I grinned back and we moved towards the bathroom door.

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : HEALING!

I dreamt. I was walking in hurrying steps towards the end of a tunnel and was so focused on the door through which sunlight seemed to be streaming in that I didn’t notice my serene environment. I felt as if a burden has been raised off my mind and joy bubbled inside me without any reason that I could place my finger on. I was about to step out into the soft grass when a body blocked my view and I looked up with irritation, visible on my face.

“Where do you think you are going?” It was shade, dressed in a long flowing gown of a very soft cream material and her hair was braided backward. She was smiling at me. “What do you want? Get out of my way! After all, I have left your man for you.” I glared at her with a cold anger. “I am grateful for that. You achieved in a few minutes what I couldn’t achieve in years and I will forever be indebted to you.” She said quietly, looking at me with a gratitude that was unnerving. “That is strange. How come you can’t make him love you when you have all these power?” I asked curiously. “We are not meant to use our power that way. We can use it to protect and fight for our love ones. Jummy, you need to go back and very fast.” She said urgently as she took my arms and something occurred to me. “Am I pregnant? Am I really carrying Femi’s baby?” I asked urgently and she sighed heavily. “I don’t know. Those people are very powerful and I have to call on the help of your mates to get you out of that horrible place. It was that idiot that allowed a stray bullet entered you and they won’t go unpunished.” Shade said coldly. “Who are my mates? What do you mean by that?” I asked in a puzzled tone. “Don’t worry your mind about that. Now turn round and go back the way you came here.” She said firmly. “Why? This place is beautiful. Can’t we stay here together?” I asked as I tried to peep over her shoulder. “No!!We can’t stay here. Go away. ”She screamed at me as she gave me a hard push and I went rolling down the tunnel at a very fast pace whose control was beyond me.

“She is alive! Her pulse rate has picked up.” The doctor said, trying to keep the excitement out of his voice and relieve coursed through him. This patient had been brought in, almost dead and her chances of survival had been very slim. It was almost miraculously that her pulse rate was now beating normally and very strong when it had been thready a few minutes ago. She had been taken straight to the ICU unit, curtsey of a Doctor colleague, Doc Femi. Miracle still happens, he thought with absolute wonder. I opened my eyes and blinked at him. My mouth felt as if cotton bud had been stuck in it and my throat was very dry. Different tubes were attached to my arms and chest. I opened my mouth to ask for water but nothing came out and I gestured frantically with my hand. “Please tell Doctor Femi to come in. He is a nervous wreck already and let her mother come too.” He instructed the matron who hurried out afterwards and turned back to me. “How are you, Jummy? “He smiled at me and I grimaced at him. The door opened and Femi came in, closely followed by my mother and Ruth. I tried to glare towards his direction and he fell on his knees by my bed. “Thank you, God! Thank you for bringing her back.” He said fervently with eyes raised skyward. I was raised up gently and Ruth put a cup of water to my lips. I gulped it greedily and sat back, spent. “Olajumoke, oko mi (my husband), kilo sele (what happened?) How come you were found in the middle of nowhere, half-dead? ”My mother asked with a frown as she sat on the chair beside the hospital bed and I closed my eyes tiredly. “Mummy, please let her be for now. She needs to rest.” Ruth said quietly, watching me closely and I could have kissed her. “Jummy, I will be right back to check on you. “Femi ran the back of his hand over my cheeks and I shield away from the touch. He left the room with the rest of the medical personnel after a last check was conducted by the doctor in charge. I fell into a deep sleep shortly afterwards and when I woke up, I have been moved to the normal private world without the tubes. I breathed a sigh of relieve and promptly fell asleep again.

Ruth was sitting beside me, looking quite pensive and there was a plaster on her forehead that was not there a few days ago. I frowned as I open my eyes and stared at her. “How are you?” I winced when my voice came out in a croak. She looked startled as she raised her face and smiled at me. “You are finally awake. I am sure you must be famished by now?” She seemed nervous at my unblinking stare and I sat up in bed. “I hate hospitals. What is there to eat please?” I asked with a smile and she served my favorite dish of jollof rice with spicy fried meat and coleslaw. My mouth salivated as she was dishing it and I devoured the entire plate of food that was served to me. “This is really good. Are you the one who prepared it because I know my mum is not such a good cook?” I asked with a mouthful and she laughed heartily as she put a chilled bottle of malt on my tray. “You are a bad babe, Jummy. Yes, I prepared it. Do you want more?” She asked with a smile. “I will take the second helping much later please.my stomach is full to bursting. Thank you. How come you were able to leave work and stay with me?” I asked curiously as I nursed my bottle of malt. “I took some few days off as my mind won’t be there anyway and my manager was quite understanding.” She pulled the plastic chair closer to my bed and sat down. “Tunde called me the night you were kidnapped and we both went to the police station to report. The baffling thing was that he knew where to take the police and the exact route the kidnappers took. I started wondering if he was involved somehow but I have a feeling you knew about this or at least part of it. I was the one who called your mum after you were found.” She gave me a direct stare and I started wondering how much I should tell her. “Don’t even bother filtering the story for me, Jummy, give it out straight the way it is. I have a right to know.” She said firmly and I laughed heartily. “I miss you truly and we have not been spending enough time together since I got involved with Femi.” I said soberly. “I have not been idled here.”She mumbled beneath her voice but I ignored it for now and narrated the whole ordeal from the moment Shade contacted me. She was silent throughout the narration and her attention was totally focused on me.I sipped the malt in-between to wet my dried throat and took a deep breath afterwards. She sighed heavily.

“Who are my mates, Ruth? I still don’t understand what she meant by that.” I asked quietly. “Jummy, we are Africans, Nigeria to be precise and supernatural things happened that is beyond human comprehension. I think your mother is in the best position to answer that.” She said quietly and it was my turn to sigh. “Am I really pregnant? How possible is that to know you are pregnant a few days after having sex?”I asked with apparent frustration. “Time will tell but I won’t wish to be pregnant for a man whose fiancée have a supernatural power please.” She said with a shudder. “Hmmm. That woman scares me and even if I am really pregnant and I decide not to let him know, I am sure she will eventually know about it.”I said slowly as I stared at my friend. “Scary again!” She mouthed in a whisper and we both laughed till tears came out of our eyes. “I will miss him though. That guy is sweet and the last sex we had was the sweetest I ever experienced.” I said with a smile, even as I felt a deep ache round my heart. “You will be fine, dear. This circumstances is totally beyond us but that doesn’t mean we can’t bitch over him and wish him all sort of evil.” Ruth stood up to hug me as a single tear rolled down my face and I dashed it away determinedly.

“What happened to your face?” I asked after I got my voice under control and she sighed again. “I have a confession to make. Can you remember Adewale fabowale? ”She asked quietly, not quite meeting my eyes and I shifted through my mental files with a frown. He was a good friend to one of our managers and was a regular visitor in our office but he was also a natural flirt. I attributed that to the fact that he was a tall handsome young man in his late thirties and he was rich. He approached me for a relationship and he pursued me with a single-mindedness that nearly changed my mind if not for the fact that I was already in a relationship with Femi then. He eventually gave up and moved on. “What about him? Are you dating him?” I asked with a raised eye-brow. “Yes. I am sorry, Jummy. It was when he approached me to help him convince you to give him a chance that we started getting close and I didn’t know how to tell you. Please forgive me.” She said remorsefully and I sat back, trying to process the whole stuff in my mind. I felt indifferent. “Okay. Apologies accepted but you have not answer my question.” I gave her a bland stare and she squirmed under my direct gaze. “He hit me yesterday when I got to his place because I was late for our appointment.” She mumbled under her breath. “What the hell? What did you just said? He hit you? “I yelled as I sat upright. The door opened and the doctor came in, followed closely by a nurse. Ruth heaved a sigh of relieve and I gave her a glare.

“Olajumoke Davies, I can see you are much better and ready to go home but it will do you good to keep your voice down. There are other patients in the hospital.” The elderly doctor said in a chiding voice, even though he was smiling. “Yes Doctor. Thank you.” I said, trying to hide my impatience. He gave me a thorough check and asked a few questions. “I am discharging you this afternoon. Your bills have been settled by Doctor Femi. Enjoy yourself and stay out of trouble.” He said with a smile and walked out with the accompanying nurse. Complete silence greeted their exit.

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : THE KIDNAP!

I drifted in and out of consciousness. It seemed the cab was moving at a very high speed on the express road one moment and the next moment, the road was rough and bumpy. The journey finally came to an end without having an idea of what my assailants looked like or where we were and I was carried like a sack of potatoes from the car through a gate that was well-hidden among the bush in a state of semi-consciousness.

My whole body seemed numb and I couldn’t move any part of my physical body including my mouth. They really had so much confidence in the jazz they used as they didn’t bother with tying either my legs or arms but my mind was working and I become aware of my environment. There was a full moon and I tried to look round my surrounding as I was carted towards a lone building in the middle of the big compound whose windows were barred and probably sound-proofed. The man gave the door one short rap and pushed it open. I guessed that was a code or something and looked up to see the second assailant leading a man who was walking like a zombie into the compound. I wasn’t sure if we were in the same cab or he was brought in a different cab but we were probably in the same state of semi-consciousness, jazzed to the core and I wondered if I was going to come out of this alive.

The man stepped into the inner room and my blood went cold at what I saw there. It was a long, wide hall covered with red and black curtain from one corner to the other, making it difficult to know if there were other rooms in the building. There were other captives in the room, hurdled in groups in a sitting position and staring into space. Towards the front of the room was a four-corner rectangle slab, the top and side was dark with what looked like blood. On top of the slab was a young woman, stark naked and her arms and legs were tied to the four corner of the slab, thereby exposing her nudity to anyone that cared to look. Her head was shaven clean and there was an incision that ran from the front of her forehead to the back of her fair scalp. I wasn’t sure if she was alive or not as she was staring blankly at the ceiling but a young man, dressed in nothing except a red cloth tied round his waist climbed on top of the slab ,shifted the clothe to one side and inserted his dick into the exposed vagina of the comatose woman.

Revulsion filled my throat and my mind rejected the obscene scene as I was dropped in a corner to join some other fresh captives like myself. I continued to watch the young man, having sex with the immobile woman until he was through and he wiped the surface of her vagina with a white handkerchief. The piece of cloth came away with a mixture of blood and what seemed to be his semen and I wondered with a heart ache if the woman was a virgin. He clutched the clothe in his hand and hurried out through another exit. My gaze wondered away to another corner and I saw what seemed to look like different part of the human anatomy. I quickly looked away and started praying in my mind. It was obvious this was a ritualist‘s den. Some groups of captives were fed from a wooden calabash containing some mixture and given water from another wooden calabash but despite the movement going on in the building, no words were spoken. After a while, I become aware of a consistent chanting renting the air, it was so soft and subtle that I nearly thought it was my imagination going into over-drive.

I sank against the wall and closed my eyes in utter depression and hopelessness. Why me, dear God? What have I done to deserve this? After losing another hopeful relationship, I have to have the bad luck to walk into a kidnapper’s den, I thought desolately. Someone nudged me on my toes and I opened to my eyes to see a tall hairy man looking down at me. He was holding a similar wooden bowl, holding whatever concoction they were giving to their captives and held it out to me. I reached forward without a thought and smashed the bowl away. It shattered on the floor with a crack and everything seemed to stand still. All movements seized and every eye turned towards my direction. The man stared at me with something close to horror and looked down at the broken bowl.

“What the hell is going on here? Everything is in disarray in the inner chamber” An authoritative voice boomed as a man strode out of another room that must have been hidden somewhere in the building and came towards us. He was tall, dark and thin with a long white mustache and was clad in a flowing black robe with a red belt, cinching his small waist. It was difficult to guess his age but his face was cold and his eyes were expressionless. He stopped in front of me and glared down at me. “She rejected the offering, Elder.” The man said with a tremble in his voice. “That is not possible. “He said firmly as he proceeded to pull me up with my arm and reeled back like someone who just touched fire. “This woman is possessed and very pregnant. Who brought her here?” He bellowed at the top of his voice and my assailants came running out of their hide-outs. “Boss, she is not pregnant. I tested her with that ring you gave us and she tested negative.” My assailant said with complete confidence.

Pregnant? How possible is that? A part of my mind wondered in panic while the other part was filled with confidence and was looking at them with a kind of amusement. I remembered the circumstances that surrounded the birth of Femi’s daughter as narrated by him and now I knew that was why he was almost fanatical about using protection whenever we made love. I was on a regular pills too as I wasn’t sure where the relationship was going and wasn’t ready to be saddled with a child outside wedlock, so we have always been on protection except yesterday evening just before Shade’s visit. It seemed like years ago but the memory came flooding back and I glanced down at my rumbled dress.
The football game Femi was watching had ended and he came into the kitchen just as I was washing the dirty dishes in the sink while my soup shimmered on the cooker. “This kitchen smells heavenly. You are a great cook, Jummy. ”He said with deep appreciation as he removed the lid on the pot of stew and sniffed appreciatively. “Stop it, Femi. That is not nice.” I chided him with a smile and he turned to me. “You are not looking bad yourself.” He seemed to take note of my short, sleeveless knit shirt-gown that stopped just above my knees for the first time and came up behind me to wrap his arms around my waist. “Thank you sir.” I grinned as he nuzzled my neck with his lips and molded my breasts with his palms. “Get away from me, Femi. I am busy here.”I tried to push him back with my elbows but he just smiled as he unbuttoned the tiny buttons in the front of the gown and unclipped my bra at the front. “I always love your boobs. They are just the perfect sizes and these dark, hard nipples just drives me crazy.” He murmured huskily as he palmed my bare, full, rounded breasts and rubbed the nipples gently with his thumbs. I moaned helplessly as my soapy hands went lax by my side and my head fell on his shoulder as he kneaded my soft flesh and gently tugged at the rigid nipples. Ribbons of fire connected from my breasts to my loins and I clenched my legs together. He reached out to turn off the cooker and gently turned me around to face him. “Oh my God! What are you doing to me?” I shivered when he buried his face between my boobs and took a nipple in his mouth, sucking deeply while he ran his hand up my bare thigh and pulled the edge of lacy panties to the side. I automatically shifted my laps apart and he slipped a finger into me. My mouth dropped open in a scream but he swallowed it by claiming my mouth in a deep kiss and I clung to him. He slipped another finger in and I came very fast. He just turned me round over the kitchen sink, lifted my gown to pull at my waist and tore off the lacy scrap of pants. He pulled down the boxers’ shorts he wore in, nudged my legs apart and just slipped into me. It was the fastest and sweetest sex we ever had!

Sounds of gun-shots renting the air brought me back to my present predicament and the ritualists looked at one another in puzzlement and fear. “What the hell is that?” The elder asked, obviously trying to be calm. “I think it is a gun-shot.” My assailant answered with fear evident in his voice. “She is the cause. She is the one that brought bad luck to this place. Get rid of her and go into hiding.” The man flung over his shoulder as he ran towards his chamber but the door flung open before he got there and a group of men and few women came out in a hurry. The men had red wrappers around their waist like the young man who had sex with the young lady on the altar and the few women had the same red wrapper tied over their chest. “Elder, the candlelight has gone off. We hope there is no problem” One of the men said, apparently looking for assurance. Before the elder could respond, another round of shots went off in the air, followed by an authoritative voice on a loudspeaker, “You are surrounded by the police. Please come out one after the other with your hands on your head.” “Yepa! I am finished. My political career is at an end.” One elderly man wailed in a loud voice, ignoring the fuming look from the other members of the cult and they shuffled their feet in confusion, obviously at a loss of what to do. My assailant picked me up to probably carry out his boss’s order ,even if it would be the last thing he would do on earth and proceeded towards an inner room but an object whipped towards us and hit me on the chest. Everything went blank and the next time I opened my eyes, I was in a hospital bed!

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES: ANGEL IN DISGUISE!

“Jummy, did you put sleeping portion inside that meal? You won’t believe I actually slept off while waiting for you to come and announce our August visitor. Who is it?” Femi’s husky voice proceeded him into the sitting room and brought me back to the present. He stopped short a few steps into the room and swung his gaze from me to the other woman and back again. “What are you doing here, Shade?” He asked in a very cold voice. “I came to tell your latest fling to stay away from you because you are not available. I wonder when you will realize you belong to me and as long as I am alive, you won’t and can’t marry another woman.” She said with a resigned expression and gave a long-suffering sigh as if she was talking to a disobedient child. What kind of sickness is this? I thought with absolute wonder as I stared at the young, beautiful woman who thought her life began and end with a single man. “I guess this is not the first time you will be doing this, right?” I spoke for the first time, addressing her and her gaze came back to me. “No, this is not the first time. I know when he start seeing other women and I know how to get rid of each one of them. You sound like an intelligent woman, Jumoke and a very nice one at that. A word, I think is enough for the wise.” She said with a flitting smile as she got to her feet and picked up her back-pack. “I cursed the day I set my eyes on you, shade and I regret the day I slept with you.” Femi said with a bitterness that scared me to my toes. “I think it is too late for that. Either you like it or not, we are bound together and no mortal on this earth can separate us. Enjoy your evening!” She smiled at me and opened the door to let herself out.

There was complete silence for several seconds after she left and we both stayed where we were, lost in our individual thought. What have I got myself into? ,I thought ,surprised at myself for not getting angry but instead ,I was scared and bone-deep sad but I knew I couldn’t continue this relationship any longer. I got to my feet and moved towards the bedroom to pack my few belongings. “Jummy, please don’t go. She is just bluffing and can’t do anything to you.” He pleaded desperately as he held my arm and came to kneel before me. “We both know that is not true and you don’t even sound convincing in your own words. A bluffing woman would have fight me physically and I would have fight back. Why did you lie to me about your daughter?” I asked quietly, staring down at his handsome face. “If I tell you she is my daughter, I will have to tell you about her mother. I am sorry for deceiving you, please forgive me.” Tears filled his eyes and he hugged me around the waist. “Femi, How old is your daughter?” I asked unrelentingly and he took a deep breath. “Come, jummy. I will tell you my part of the story, even if you are still going to leave me.”He got to his feet, took my arm and pulled me to the sofa where we sat side by side.

“I met shade in my final year in med school at a departmental party and we were over each other the first few months that we dated. I had no thought of marrying her because marriage wasn’t on my agenda at all and I made no promises to her. I was very careful, not to make any promise to her and when we have sex, I used protection at all times, despite the fact that she told me she was on the pills. I knew the pills because she showed me and as a med student, I know the medication works very well but I still didn’t take any chance. This is the weird part.” He scrubbed his hands over his face and leaned forward. “I noticed that since the night we were together, my luck changed for the best. It was subtle at first and I tried not to notice it but it become obvious with time. Once I mentioned a challenge or a problem in her presence, it got sorted easily or miraculously in ways I least expect. The first major event that really got me rattled was the issue of my housmanship. There was this high-brow hospital on the island that I truly admired and really wish to do my program then and almost all my mates wanted the place but we all know it is only the truly connected or those that come from influential families that got placement there. Shade was in my room the day we were discussing or rather fantasizing about it and after my roommates left the room, she asked if I wanted my placement in that hospital. I said yes and grinned at her. She only smiled at me and went back to the novel she was reading. Two weeks later, I received an invitation letter directly from the hospital’s management.” He looked at me for the first time since he started his narration and I stared at him, stupefied.

“Wonders shall never end” I murmured under my breath. “And I knew I was in trouble.” He added after a moment and continued to stare into space. “I resumed for my program, half-expecting to be sent away or to be told it was a dream and was offered accommodation along with an excellent pay. It was a dream comes true but deep inside me, I knew something was not right. Shade paid me a visit one week later, even though I have never brought her to my new address and she told me she was pregnant. How can that be? I was mad and enraged and practically threw her out. She turned up weeks later with her father and the father laid down an ultimatum for us to get married, I bluntly refused. The next thing was for shade to turn up at my parent’s house with her luggage and quite heavily pregnant. My father called me and told me to come home right away. It was a very ugly scene.” He gave a harsh laugh. “She said it was her father who located your parent’s house.” I said quietly. ‘She is lying. She knows whatever she want to know and apart from that first time, I have never met any of her family.” He sighed heavily. “How am I even sure he is her father? I denied the pregnancy outright because I was damn sure we did everything humanly possible to prevent it but my father insisted she stayed until she gave birth and we can run a proper test. She gave birth to my daughter and there was no need for test because the child was my carbon copy. I fell in love with Oreoluwa immediately.” He said with the first genuine smile since shade left and my heart constricted in pain. “Why didn’t you marry her mother?” I asked after a moment and he looked at me as if I just asked him to jump off the third mainland bridge.

“How can I marry a woman I don’t know or understand? She is interfering in my life in a way I don’t like and that is scaring me. I have stopped sleeping with her ever since she told me about the pregnancy and we don’t even talk except when it concerns Oreoluwa. I have no emotional attachment to her any longer but she refused to let me go.” He took a deep breath. “One day, a woman that was heavily pregnant with a set of twins was undergoing a caesarian section and the procedure was becoming complicated. We were about to lose the mother and her babies. I was excused in the middle of the operation to get in touch with another senior surgeon urgently. A text message came into my phone immediately I raised it to make a call and it was from shade. I can still remember every words in details. “Get the bottled water inside your second drawer, pour little in your palm and rubbed it over her two feet. You won’t lose any of them.” Now how would I do that in the presence of other medical personnel, even though I didn’t believe in it but I was desperate enough to use whatever works to save the poor woman because it was the first pregnancy since she got married 8 years ago. Secondly, I don’t know how the bottled water get into my drawer in the first place but at this junction, I didn’t care or thought about it until much later. I went into the theater with the bottled water in my hand, trembling from heads to toes and the other surgeon gave me a questioning look. As I opened my mouth to say something, the light flickered off and there was a collective gasp from everyone. I went straight to the foot of the bed and rubbed the water over the cold feet of the half-dead woman. The feet began to warm up almost immediately and I dropped the bottle as the light came back. The operation was successful and it earned me a huge promotion.” He took a deep breath. “There are days that she will send me texts not to take one route or the other and I will later find out there was an accident or robbery going on in that area. It’s as if she knows every action I am taking in my waking moment and always turned up whenever I stumbled or about to get into trouble. It is downright scary, Jummy and I don’t care for it.” He gave me an earnest look.

“You are scared because you don’t understand her and you have not taken the time to do so. Obviously, she has a supernatural power but has she ever hurt you or your daughter in any way?” I asked in a matter –of-fact voice and he shook his head in the negative. “She always come to your rescue when you are about to get into trouble or when you would have walked into danger and she has helped you achieve your dreams, even though you keep shutting her out. She is home waiting for you patiently and taking care of your daughter while you sow your wild oats and yet all you can offer her is hatred and ungratefulness. What else are you looking for in a woman, Femi?” I asked angrily and his mouth dropped in surprise as he stared at me. “You are just selfish and ungrateful. I don’t trespass on other people’s property and I won’t start now. Thank you for wasting my time and emotion.” I got to my feet and went straight to the room to pick my few belongings. “Jummy, please wait till morning. It is late already.” He pleaded as he tried to hold me back but I side-stepped him and anger propelled me out of the house. I heard him calling my name as he tried to catch up with me and hailed the first taxi that came my way.

The interior of the cab was dark and I couldn’t see the face of the driver but was desperate to get away as fast as possible. I was already in the back seat and was about to tell the driver my destination when I realized I was not alone in the back seat. As I turned my face to look at who was sitting beside me, the portent smell of chloroform assailed my nose. Oh my God! I have just been kidnapped, was the last thought that flitted through my mind as I floated away into deep darkness.

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : DESPERATION!

I was in a perpetual state of happiness these days and was practically sailing through the air from day to day as love seemed to locate my heart again. I spent weekends in Doc Femi’s house and he did spent nights in my house too, especially when he had been on a 24hours working shift. It was great, pampering my big baby with my special delicacies in the kitchen and our special delicacies in the bedroom afterwards.
It was my lunchbreak and I was busy, eating while chatting on WhatsApp with a couple of friends when a message popped up from an unknown number. ”Hi. Is this Jumoke? “The person chatted, I looked closely at the display picture and could see it was a woman. I ignored it until another message came in from the same number. “This is Femi’s younger sister, Sharon. I got your number from my brother’s phone. I am so sorry to disturb you” That caught my attention and I smiled to myself. I knew Femi had 2 sisters, the older one was already married with kids and the younger one was the last in the family, single and already serving the country. I have never met any of the two but I have heard a lot about both of them. “Hello Sharon. How are you doing?” I chatted back with a smile. “I am good. Nice display picture by the way, you look beautiful in the picture. No wonder, my brother is in love.” She chatted with a smile icon and I laughed to myself, pleased. “Thank you. When are you coming around? I won’t mind meeting you.” I chatted back. “I should be at my brother’s place this Saturday evening. Please do me a favor and don’t tell my brother. I want it to be a surprise visit.” She chatted back. “Okay. Your secret is save with me. See you on Saturday then and take good care of yourself.” I chatted back. “Thank you, my iyawo. I need to run now and make sure to prepare special delicacy for me.Bye.” She chatted and went offline almost immediately.

Fortunately, Femi was free on Saturday but he was surprised to see me at his house with loads of cooking ingredients and I went straight to the kitchen to cook a meal that would woo my sister-in-law to my side. “Jummy, you are scaring me with this special cooking this evening. Are we celebrating something?” He said with a smile as he hugged me from behind. “Go away and let me concentrate. Is there a crime in cooking us a special meal?” I elbowed him away and tied an apron. “Is there anything I can do to help?” He said with a smile. “Don’t worry. I will call you to sample .Just go away, I have everything I need. “I pushed him out of the kitchen and got to work.

We just finished taking dinner when the doorbell rang and Femi turned a questioning look to me. “Are you expecting someone?” He asked casually and I shrugged, hiding a smile. “Let me check who is at the door. “I excused myself and went to peep through the door hole. A young woman was standing there in jeans and t-shirt with an over-night back-pack over her right arm and pressing her phone. A message tone rang sharply on my phone and I opened the door without hesitation. “Hello. Are you Sharon?” I asked with a smile and she gave me a bright smile. “Hello. You must be Jummy. You even look prettier in person.” She grinned at me without answering my question and I pulled her in. “You are welcome. Femi is around and I am sure he will be surprised and amazed to see you.” I said conversationally as I led the way into the sitting room but Femi was not there. I guessed he had gone to the restroom. “Sit down. I know this is your brother’s house but permit me to entertain you with drinks before you take your lunch. What would you like to take?” I asked with a smile. “Please give me a glass of cold water. That will do for now. Thank you.” She returned with a smile as she sat down on a single sofa and dropped her back-pack at her feet. I went to the kitchen and came back with a tray of cold bottled water and glass cup and drew a stool up to the sofa where she was sitting.

“Thank you, Jummy. You are a nice woman.” She said with a smile as she poured out the water and drank deeply. “How was your journey? Will you take your dinner first before taking your bath?” I asked as I sat down opposite her. “Don’t worry about me. I will take care of myself when I am ready. We have the whole night to get to know each other. By the way, where is Femi? ”She looked around the room and her gaze lingered on the dining room where she could still see the plates we used for dinner. “I guess he went to the loo. We just finished taking dinner when you rang the doorbell.” I said as I sat back and tucked my feet under me. “That is a nice one. What do you think of having a child outside wedlock?” She gave me a direct look and I was surprised at the sudden change in subject. “Well, I am not sure people set out to have children out of wedlock deliberately but circumstances is sometimes beyond one’s control. Do you have one already?” I asked quietly and remembered the little girl on Femi’s tab but there was no resemblance between this woman sitting in front of me and Femi. “Yes, I do. I got pregnant during my last year in the university. My boyfriend was a final year med student and he has no intention of fathering a child at that stage in his life. I was scared and worried but since I didn’t get myself into that position all alone, I informed him. He was very angry and threw me out of his house. I tried to abort the pregnancy but each time I was about to do so, my nerves failed me and at the end, I went home with it. All hell broke loose.” She said with a soft chuckle. “I can imagine! What happened to the baby? How did you cope?” I said in sympathy, trying to imagine the scared young lady telling her parent she was pregnant for an unwilling father. “My parent were strict Christians and could not bear their child giving birth outside wedlock. My father insisted I took him to the man that impregnated me and after begging him for several days in vain, I took him to my boyfriend’s house. To say my boyfriend was mad was an understatement but he kept his cool in my father’s presence and told my father he was not ready for marriage.” She stared off into space. “I can still remember my father’s sarcastic laugh and the cold look on his face. “You shouldn’t have climbed on top of my daughter and pour your seed in when you are not ready for marriage. Youngman, get your parent over to my house and do the right thing by my daughter or else, you will be surprised at what I will do.” my father told my boyfriend and we both left his house that faithful day. I thought he was bluffing and I am sure my boyfriend thought the same but my father actually located his parent’s house and told them to come and take me away if they are not ready for marriage. That was how I was bundled to my boyfriend’s family house. I become a modern day slave in my boyfriend’s family house with no one to turn to or no place to run to. ”She gave a harsh, bitter laugh. What is this, dear God? A family secret? I thought with sudden fear but tried not to let it show on my face.
“Did you eventually give birth to your baby? Where is your boyfriend now?” I asked in curiously. “I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who is my boyfriend’s exact replica and that gave me reprieve with his family. They all fell in love with her and her father has been taking good care of her.” She continued without actually answering my question once again as she scrolled through her phone. “Did you go back to your parent’s house?” I asked after a moment, wondering where the story was leading to. “My father has disowned me and didn’t want to see me as long as my boyfriend refused to do the right thing by me. I went for my National youth service with my baby and my finance was taken care of by my father-in-law. I came back to their home afterwards when I couldn’t secure a job and my father still refuse to take me back. Eventually, it was his father that still got me a job here in Lagos. My daughter’s six years old now and here are her pictures.” She leaned forward with her phone. “Did you just say she is 6 years old?” I echoed as lead settled in my tummy and glanced down at the pictures in the phone. My jaw dropped in shock as I scrolled through the pictures and flipped through my metal files to the first dinner date I had with Doc Femi. However, I said nothing as I held her phone out and waited for her to complete her story. “Femi’s my daughter’s father and I have suffered too long to watch another woman take over my place. He is the first and only man I have ever known in my life. I am begging you to leave us alone to live our life in peace and don’t deprive my daughter of her father’s love.” She turned to me with deep, quiet desperation that tore at my heart and soul.

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : REKINDLED LOVE!

Doc Femi came back from where he went to receive call and joined me at the table. “Please accept my apologies, Jummy. That was from a colleague in the hospital but I have sorted them out. “He said with a smile as he pulled out his chair and sat down. “You have another call on your tab.” I told him casually and he pressed the phone button to check the missed calls. “I will call her back later.” He said with a shrug and picked up his cutleries. “Who is the cute little girl on your tab screen? She looks so much like you.” I said with a smile, chewing on the chicken I wasn’t tasting. “She is my niece. I and my sister look quite alike and her daughter looks like her. She is adorable, isn’t she?” He said with an endearing smile, flicking the screen with his finger and the little girl’s face came alive. I could hear the adoration in his voice and I silently breathe a sigh of relive. “She is sure cute and so is her uncle.” I said with a grin and he laughed, obviously pleased. We had a great evening together but I went home early because I would be resuming back at work the following morning.

I got office the following morning with mixed feelings, I was glad to see my friend, Ruth and some other colleagues but was already missing the morning sleep-in I have enjoyed since the beginning of my vacation. I missed my novels and lazing around in bed until hunger pushed me out of it and was just not feeling like working at all. “Lazyass, you better inform your body that work has begun.” Ruth cuffed my ear from behind when I yawned loudly and I covered my mouth with my palm. “I am missing my late morning sleep seriously and I am very hungry now “I said with another yawn and pounced on my phone when it rang. It was Caroline Adebayo and I was smiling when I picked the call as I walked away from Ruth with a wink.

“Hi Jummy. Is this the best time to talk? I know you must have resumed back in office.” Caroline said with a smile in her voice. “Infact you are a life saver. I have been dozing on and off since I get to work this morning. I feel like just sleeping for an hour.” I grumbled good-naturedly and she laughed heartily. “Don’t worry. You are still in vacation mood, your body will soon move to work mood sooner than you expect. “Caroline said and I went to sit down in the empty kitchenette. “Hmmm. So what’s up with you? How is your family and your new house help?” I asked conversationally. “We are doing very well. Elizabeth has been doing very well so far with minimal supervision and she has been very good with the kids as well. It has given me the opportunity to focus on other things in my life.” Caroline said casually. “Things like what, Mrs. Adebayo? Pray tell! I have heard the boring part of your life and needs to hear the sweet and interesting part.” I sat up straight, gist-mood activated and Caroline giggled like a school girl. The sound warmed and gladdened my heart. “Oh, Jummy. You made me blush just thinking of what I have been doing for the past few days. I felt so young and beautiful and my husband has changed to a new better man all of a sudden. ”She giggled again. “I am all ears. “I said, not ready to let her off the hook and heard her took a deep breath. “I did some reading and watched some videos in my free time when I was at the hospital to brush up my bad-girl acts. When we got home from the hospital that day, I helped Elizabeth put dinner together and put the kids to bed. My husband was watching football in the sitting room and I went into the bedroom to take my bath. I changed into one of those negligee you bought in me, the black silk one, put on some perfumes and came out to the sitting room with a bottle of honey. Jummy, you need to see how his eyes bulged out as I walked towards him and his jaw simply dropped.” Both of us burst into long hearty laughter. “Atta girl! Ride on, I am all ears. I can just imagine the scene in my mind.” I said with a smile, wiping tears from my eyes. “”Caroline, what are you doing?” He finally croaked out in a husky voice when I knelt in front of him between the legs he planted on the table and rubbed my hands lightly over his zipper. “Jesus!” He exclaimed as the remote control dropped from his hand. “I just want to take care of my baby. I have been neglecting it too much. “I said in a low voice, zipped him down and brought out his weapon out of his boxers. He nearly jerked off the sofa and groaned out as he held my head. “Easy, baby. Just relax please and let me do my job.” I told him with a smile as I put his hands by his side and pushed him back. I poured the honey on my finger and rubbed it slowly over his shaft. “You are killing me, baby.” He said between a groan and a moan. “That is the idea, my darl. “I smiled wickedly and replaced my finger with my tongue. I thought he will have high blood pressure or woke the children up with his voice. Jummy, if you see the way my husband was moaning and begging and groaning. I have never felt that powerful and sexy and beautiful.” Caroline said with a dreamy smile. “You are a bad ass truly, Caroline. Poor man! I am sure he retaliated.” I said with a wicked laugh.

“Trust my Adedayo Adebayo. He was molding and caressing my breasts and touching every part of my body he could reach, even as I worked my tongue all over his weapon. After I had him jerking off and spurting his semen all over my face, he just pulled me up, arranged me well over the table ,jerked off the tiny piece of pants I wore and he entered me in one deep stroke .I screamed with long forgotten pleasure and squeezed him tight with my butt. He groaned out loud and the ride began. I am not sure we had one hour of sleep that night and he succeeded in ripping off all my outfit.” She said with a throaty laugh. “It served its purpose and I am sure you enjoy yourself. It is honeymoon phase two. I am so happy for you, dear” I said with a grin. “Guess what? He came home the next day with several sets of negligees, G-strings, pants and every sexy outfit you can think of in different colors. My mouth dropped in amazement and he just stood there, grinning like a baby at the look on my face.” Caroline said in amazement. “You are in trouble, Caroline. You are no longer safe anywhere in the house. Just make sure you are on the pill or on any kind of protection unless you want to have another baby soon. “I laughed till my sides ache. “Jummy, I knew I have opened a can of trouble. In the kitchen, bathroom, store, anywhere in the house with the kids a room away, he will just sneaked in behind me, raised my skirt and just entered me. I can’t complain too much because I am enjoying every moment of it.”She giggled like a child. “There is nothing like good sex to spice up our life. It is good for your health.” I said so soberly that she laughed again. “Thank you, Jummy, for everything. You have a good heart and good things will always come your way. I hope we see in person soon. My husband has been asking of you. “Caroline said finally. “We will see very soon and my regards to Mr Adebayo for a job well done. I will call you soon. I need to get back to my seat now before they start looking for me.”We chit-chatted for a while and finally hanged up.

Doc Femi was the perfect gentleman. He called regularly and took me out whenever he was free. He started visiting me often at home and people started seeing us as an item. He visited my office once on his way to a medical seminar and promised to pick me up on his way back if he was through on time. Tongues started wagging in the office.

“Jummy, you didn’t tell me you have a new guy. He is so cool and handsome. Who is he? “Ruth asked with undisguised curiosity as she cornered me at the restroom. “He is the family doctor to that my new friend I told you about that I met during vacation.” I said as I refreshed up my lipstick. “So what’s up with him? Are you guys going steady?” Ruth continued, as she did the same and I shrugged. “It seems so. We have been seeing regularly for a few weeks and I enjoyed his company.” I said casually. “Have you done it yet? “She asked boldly with a smile. “He has tried to get into my pants and he is doing a good job so far but he hasn’t tasted the honey yet. I want to take my time before sleeping with him. He wants to me to spend the night in his house today.” I said with a smile. “Are you going to spend the night in his bed tonight then?” Ruth grinned at me. “Well, I may do so if he persuaded me well. “I grinned back. “Atta girl! I am sure that spot has been itching you seriously and you can’t wait to get it scratch.” Ruth gave me a mock slap on my butt. “My dear, body no be firewood. I will keep you updated.” We left the restroom together and headed out for lunch.

Doc Femi picked me up after work and we went to his home together to spend the night. I met his elder brother who was visiting him from the north and my heart picked up speed. Is he the one? Is this guy truly for keeps?

Have a great weekend guys!

DIARY OF OLAJUMOKE DAVIES : THE ELIGIBLE DOCTOR!

I visited the Adebayo’s home the following morning to check on the kids, especially the last baby who was having cold and catarrh before her mother’s admission into the hospital. When I opened the door to the sitting room, my jaw dropped in shock. It was a complete disaster ground. Clothes and toys and something that resembled food was strewn everywhere. The center table had been pushed to a side and television was still on, cartoon music blaring from the speaker loudly. Is this the same house I visited yesterday afternoon that was clean and tidy like a pin? , I wondered in complete amazement as I stepped in gingerly on a tip-toe and looked around. Caroline’s husband was sprawled on the longest sofa seat, his legs dangling at the end and he was still clad in his boxers’ shorts. He was fast asleep and the youngest child was also asleep on a smaller sofa, her pyjamas wet and cold with urine. Obviously, the older kids were in school. I sputtered with cough to cover the urge to laugh and covered my mouth but I must have made a sound because Caroline’s husband stirred and turned his face towards my direction.

“Good morning sir. I came in to check on you and the kids. “I said with a smile as I pulled off the little girl’s wet trouser. “Good morning Jummy. Thanks for everything and my apologies for the chaos in here.”He said with an embarrassed smile as he looked around. “Why didn’t you go to work?” I asked as I concentrated on the tiny button in front of Tope’s pyjama top. “How can I go to work in the middle of all these chaos? I thought I was going to run insane between yesterday evening and this morning. My little angels suddenly turned into monsters over-night and rejected everything I do for them. It was a big relieve to get them off to school this morning.” He said with a heavy sigh as he sat up in the sofa and suddenly realized he was clad in only his boxers. “I will get dressed.” He mumbled and walked towards their bedroom, taking the other side of the room. I covered the little girl with the nearest clothe I could lay my hand on and gave in to the urge to laugh. I laughed till tears ran down my face before scooping the little girl up and headed to the bathroom. I volunteered to take care of Tope for the day and her father was more than relieved to be free of the kids for a few hours until the older ones returned from school, then they all joined their father at home.

I went to visit Caroline in the evening and branched at Doctor Femi’s office. “Hot Jummy! How are you today?” He said with a smile as I came in and his eyes did a thorough job of moving from my head, lingering on the elevated points and down to my toes which was clad in a casual sandals. “I am good. You had a tiring day, right?” I said with a smile, noting the tiring look on his handsome face and went to plant a smacking kiss on his cheek, leaving a smudge with my tomato red lipsticks. “Yes, I have been in the operating room since morning and just completed the last surgery for the day.” He tried to draw me to his lap. “Well done, Doc.Please don’t let your nurses come and pour acid on my skin. It is one of my most cherished asset.” I danced out of his reach and sat down on the edge on table. His eyes followed the movement of my short skirt and lingered on my thigh before he leaned back with a smile. “There is no rival here. I don’t mix business with pleasure. Give me your green light and I will take you to paradise on earth.” He said with a husky voice and I laughed softly. “Doctors are chronic womanizer. How is Caroline doing, doc?”I asked as I balanced well on the table and crossed my legs. “There is nothing wrong with your friend and you know it. She just need to rest. Why are you putting the poor man through mental and physical stress?”Doc Femi said with a scowl. “We both know your client has turned his wife into a slave and doesn’t appreciate her any longer. Let him be in her shoes for a few more days and we will see how it goes.” I said with a casual shrug. “He was practically begging me to discharge his wife this morning and that he would get a house-maid to do the house chores while she recuperates.”Doc Femi said in sympathy and I cocked my head to the side. “Well, let him get the maid first.” I stood up, picked up the bag of goodies I brought with me and marched to the door. “Jummy, I have kept my part of the bargain. When are you going to keep yours? ”He asked when I got to the door. “Give me a call, doc.”I sashayed out of his office and heard him chuckled to himself.

Caroline was looking more rested, relaxed and freshened up. “You spoil me, Jummy. Thank you.” She looked into the bag and grinned at me.Her dimples winked. “You are welcome. I can’t believe you are this beautiful. ”I said with in amazement. “I can’t remember the last time I have slept this soundly. I felt wonderful and beautiful indeed. You are the second person to tell me I look beautiful today.” She smiled and I raised an eye-brow. “Yours truly. He looked so harassed and stressed out when he came in this morning that I really felt sorry for him.” She crossed her legs and sighed. “And I can’t remember the last time he told me I am beautiful either. All he does these days is complain and criticize everything I do.” She said sadly. “You should have seen your house this morning. I am sure you won’t recognize it in your dream.” She was practically rolling on the bed and howling with laughter by the time I finished describing it to her. “You are such a darling, Jummy. How did I live without you all these years?” She said as she gave me a tight hug. “I am just an angel. Check those bags and bring out those sinful negligee I got for you. Your first night back home must put your honeymoon to shame. When was the last time you guys really looked at each other and made love the way you used to before the kids come along?” I watched her brought out the sinfully sexy night wears and watched the dreamy look entered her eyes. “It has been too long. After taking care of the kids and keeping the house in order all day ,I used the little energy left to manage to take my bath and just crawled into bed with every muscle in my body protesting. That is when he will turn round on the bed and want to dance skelewu. Infact the kind of tongue-lashing I usually give him, he won’t forget it in a long time and I feel ashamed of myself, remembering it now. He usually hurt me by telling me what the hell have I been doing all day, after all he is the one doing the job that provides all our needs. I must tell you I was starting to hate anything that relates to sex.You won’t believe he is promising to get a housemaid if I can come home to recuperate.” She said with a flash of mischief in her twinkling eyes. “Please let him get one first and think of what you want to do to occupy your time as well so you won’t start resenting him when you are bored.” I sat back with a smile. “Thank you, Jummy. I have a savings and intended to start a business. How come you are still single when you seems to know so much about men and relationship?” She asked with interest.

“Well, I am yet to meet the one that is worth settling down with.” I said with a casual smile. “I think doc Femi likes you and he is still single.” Caroline said with a smile. “He looks like a nice man and one that would be great in bed but we will see how eligible he is.”I said with a shrug. “Great in bed indeed! Is that all you consider in men?” She gave me a searching look. “Is that not all they think about when they meet a woman? How to raise her skirt and put it in? What is wrong with a woman if she thinks the same way?” I said a bit defensively and realized I was getting angry. She got down from the hospital bed, pulled me up and hugged me warmly. Tears filled my eyes and I held her tight. “I don’t know why but I know you are hurting. You have to stop thinking that way, if not, those are the kind of men you will continue attracting. You are a beautiful woman and can have the best of men.” She said as she pulled back and kissed me on both cheek.

Few days later, Caroline was about to be discharged and her husband came in with the children and a young girl holding her last child by the hand. I was helping her packed her stuffs when they entered and we exchanged glances, smiling secretly. “Aunt Jummy, good afternoon.” The kids came over to shower me with hugs and kisses and even the last one scrambled down to join the chorus. I feel honored. “How are you, my darlings? “I doled out kisses and hugs generously. “Good afternoon jummy. Caroline, meet out new house help. I put lots of pressure on mum to get her for us before you are discharged from the hospital. Her name is Elizabeth “Her husband said with a cheeky smile as he pushed the young girl forward and the girl knelt in front of her. “Good afternoon ma. She said quietly. “How are you, dear?” Caroline pulled her up and turned to her husband. “Thank you, baby. You are the best.” She went up to her husband, put her arm around his neck and kissed him deeply on the mouth. He held her tight and deepened the kiss. I coughed loudly and the kids burst into laughter. “Please, Mr and Mrs. Adebayo, kindly take the show home. I don’t want to watch a free show.” I said, tongue in cheek and they broke apart with a smile. “Thanks Jummy.i owe you a lot.” Her husband said with a sober look. “Trust me, I will hold you to it.”I said with a smile and wink at Caroline.

I went on a dinner date with Doc femi at a prestigious restaurant and we were enjoying a great meal with little conversation when his phone rang. He excused himself and left the table to receive the call. Another call came in on his tab which was actually on the table beside my plate and screen lit up. My heart slammed in my chest because the dancing screensaver on the tab was showing pictures of a little girl whose face was the exact replica of Doc femi. I dropped my cutleries and sat back with a thoughtful frown. Is doc femi truly single and eligible?
