Education › Re: Teachers, Kindly Share Your Private Home Lesson Experience. by boldsleek: 7:07am On Jun 15, 2025 |
Chram: Whoever has taught in Private schools before would understand that the salaries they pay, when compared with the economic challenges and realities, do not commensurate the teachers' efforts. It is consequent upon this that Private home lessons became necessary to augment one's derisory salary.
Based on the experiences I have had, if you're in a good environment where you teach in a private school that has children from a well-to-do background, you're sure of getting something substantial because these parents don't like to owe sch fees. In fact, some pay before resumption. If you have to teach three students from three different parents, I'm sure you'll earn something good for yourself. But the challenge is, same parents would go tell the sch how much you're being paid or about to be paid. They will complain that what you're charging is too much. A parent said why would she pay that kind of money for just lesson of Three times a week after paying huge sums as sch fees. Because of this, they tend not to pay much especially when same private lesson teacher is a staff/teacher in the sch your child attends. It is also difficult for parents to engage the services of a random teacher who can't be traced to any sch. We all know some private lesson teachers have no school they teach per se
Here's the challenge I had as a private lesson tutor: I had a parent who engaged my services to be teaching her two children on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We agreed on the amount to be paid by month end. And she was willing to be paying me a thousand Naira for transport each time I went. But when I started, she wasn't consistent in giving me the transport fare. This is how I do my private home lessons, aside from the subjects we agreed on, whenever it is time for School test and exams, I usually do a revision on all the subjects these children are being taught in their respective schools so that they can have a better result than when I came in to start the lesson with them.
In the first month, she delayed my payment for two weeks. I didn't ask her or reminded her about my payment, I wanted to see how much premium she placed on this lesson. The second month, she repeated same thing. She even owed for two months. Sometimes, I will get to the gate, stay out for over 30mins and be knocking and nobody will come out to open the gate. I called, texted and sent messages reminding her that I needed my money but no response. During this period, I became even extra motivated to work as her children were encouraging me based on their readiness to learn. When she finally paid me, I stopped immediately. She called and called but I never picked. She called my Boss to plead with me to return, but I said NO. I know my worth.
I think people need to be corrected on the public perception of teachers. They are being looked down on and it's unfair. If you're that parent who disregards your children's teachers, you had better repent now before God gets angry. it baffles me how people didn't know it's all about teachers. Without teachers no career will be in existence. Teachers are the bedrock. |

Dogalmighty17: The question I want to ask is this. Where did his wife do her antenatal? Because one of the things you get to know beforehand during antenatal is if surgery will be scheduled or not. You are even given a date where you come in and this date comes a few days before your EDD.
I know emergency surgery does happen sometimes. But it is very rare.
Let's not sugar coat anything. This man was negligent in every way assuming of course his story should be believed. you are knowledgeable about how this things work. Even surgery fee in govt hospitals are like 150k, which couples will have like 6/7 months to start working towards how to raise it before the day of CS. |

Yeye dey smell. you are just being tribal sentimental. Ask yourself, as an Igbo person, will you allow a Northerner to become a chief in Igbo land just because he has lived in Igbo land for years? Will you agree to sell your family land to a Yoruba man because he is married to one girl in your village? Let's all be truthful to ourselves sometimes. |

They have reached the end point in their criminality. is it not surprising how two idiots came up with your thoughts and not even one of them can apply common sense. When two lifes gets married, this is the result. Just for two million Naira only? Money that can't even pay rent in some of Nigeria. |

chatinent: Maybe hellfire residents watch Nigeria as a horror movie series...just maybe.
Abacha in Ward II Hell Department will be discussing with Lucifer like: "My Lord, if I may?”
Lucifer: What dost thou seek, Mr. Sani Abacha? Why dost thou trouble me so oft? Hast thou not rendered sufficient for a soul?
Abacha: My lord, I suggest we buy more estates that can accommodate about 200 millions Africans. We would still need experienced security details so that when they arrive, they don't start killing other hellsidents. Just as you put leg chains on me, double on them for the ones coming will be worse than me.”
Lucifer: What dost thou propose such a thing? Pray tell, what doth render the folk of thy land so wicked in their ways? Verily, I did not partake in this deed. They possess a greater wickedness than I do. To Christ I shall surrender my very soul, for the country thou cometh forth and keepest, including thine own self, doth reek of wickedness.
Abacha: I know wetin I dey tell you. These people go overthrown you o.
Devil: Hark! Summon forth the sentinels! Convey Mr. Sani to the chamber of solitude, where shadows dwell in silence. I shall lend mine ear no further to this discourse (whisked Abacha away). Pray, dost thou speak of that infamous figure, Hitler? Idi Amin, appear before mine abode! Hark! The name that doth stir the tempest of our discourse! Embrace the role of the second choice! Prepare thyself to greet the Nigerian lords of politics first, and thereafter their misguided throngs of electors! Make ready thyself! Thou craziest thou don't knoweth. |

I hope they get over this experience strong and move on to do better for themselves onwards.
As for the pimps and madams that traffick and force other people's children into prostitution, while you keep yours at home and even raise them up with the money you made from such biz.., hmmmmm.
Your own children will bring so much pains to your life that you will end up commiting suicide out of misery.
I can't believe some people are actually laughing and teasing this girls sef. No empathy again?
Imagine coming from a poor home, someone came and took your sister of 12-14years with promise of job. And, this is someone you all trust.., only to get to city and force your sister into prostitution. |

Telltruth123: My advice to salary earners, I am a graduate of Accounting and I have been working for the past 12 years but presently I don't have any savings. I have made some mistakes during this journey. Below are my advice to salary earners so that you won't live in regrets as I am presently:
1. Save at least 20% of your earnings you can increase it if you have the capacity but it must not be below 20%, you can save it in a co-operative society, I learned that after some few months, they will lend you three times of the money you save with low interest rate.
2.Try and have a business plan, calculate the amount you will need for the business and save towards it, you don't need to leave your work unless it grows to a certain level that can pay 3 times your salary.
3. Don't touch your savings unless for business, it is good to save it where you can't easily access it , co-operative society, bank with instructions on duration etc
4. Don't entrust your business with family members, they don't take it serious, I have bad experience with this and I am regretting it.
5. Don't lend out your savings, people might not return it, I have bad experience with this and I am regretting it.
6. If you are working in a company where you have access to loan, please make use of the opportunity as the interest rate is low invest it in a business, there is no access to loan in my company so I don't have the opportunity..
7. Lastly know that you can't be young for life make sure you have a business running for you so that when the work force is rejecting your age limit, you will have something to fall back on I reject poverty for me and you. Thank you. All you said is true, but, you didn't provide alternative for when hard times hits you. I am a salary earner, saved up, even took loan too and set up a biz as my second source of income, also hoping to resign oneday and fall back to it. Do you know That on June of this year, market fire burnt my shop, goods and all my money to ashes. Not even a pin was saved. My years of investment gone like that. Life is so unpredictable, Life is so hard when you are born in Nigeria. |
