I thought it was only me that felt that track. It is a very clever track. Modenine was so on point. This is one of the reasons I think as a lyricist he is in a class of his own. There is another clever song on his current album (paradigm shift) called A hero comes home. The word play and symbolism is crazy. |
afro-pop? why do people just go about spewing all sort of crapPop music stands for "Popular" music. It is a broad categorization of music that covers a broad category of genres. So afro-pop is popular african music. I'm not dissing P-square or anything, all I'm saying is we should put them in the right category so that they are not put in the stable with real hiphop artists. Mordern hiphop is not only rap . . . step outside the boxOf course every genre of music is changing and I'm not resisting change but even though something changes, the fundamentals that make it what it is should not change. I mean our way of life is always changing with developments of technology but we are still human beings. Hiphop in its true sense is fusion. DJs at the beginning of the art form used to take different records (Jazz, funk, electronica etc) and mash them together to make beats which from the beginning of time was accompanied by the lyrical workings of an MC. As per Kanye, he said himself that he was doing this his current album as a "pop" album with the motive of emulating the legend michael jackson. What I'm saying is No MC = No Hiphop |
P-Square sold a million in 6 days?? It's possible.em, dude P-square are not Hiphop they are Afro-pop. People should categorize music properly |
Yes I saw it too and it was very revealing, it was just like one copy of the hulk that came out in 2003 that hadn't been completed. It helped me to appreciate the creative and technical process. Could someone please post the link to the CNN coverage? |
Na wah oh! did you even listen to the song? Killz more than held his own. Overall good track. The only one with MI i actually like so far.I'm actually listening to it right now and I stand with my comment. Dude (or dudette as the case maybe) have you listened to MI's "Illegal Music"? |
I feel sorry for Ikechukwu, he did a good job but, MI out shone him like headlamps to a torchlight!!!!!! |
he got similar reception here london, pple were just sleeping when he was perfomingWell that must have been another show in London, cuz the pictures above are showing the crowd is really feeling him. |
BLAISE?Blaise Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxSR-gEVeRs Kel Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR9GcpGpq8Y It is one of the many reasons I really do not take a lot of Naija hiphop artist serious. It is too hard for my people to be who they are. Even the craziest thing is when they rap with Yoruba, it sounds like English. How scary is that. GrinMost rappers sound like they are from Brooklyn because most of who they listen too are from the USA. They are clearly influenced by what they listen to. Please don't hate on them because of the accent sometimes it is subconcious. I don't think they are trying to be other then who they are. I mean some people when they talk it is very different from how they sing, would U criticize those people too. |
So what exactly does that mean? You don't need talent anymore or good music for that matter, just the hype? I thought it was supposed to be the other way round. I thought it was your talent that brought the hype.I'm not saying that talent is not needed but what I'm saying is that hype plays a major role. Do you know how many talented people are soaking garri meanwhile people like Kelly handsome have mad air play. What do you say to that? As per MI, yes he had a lot of hype, but really the guy is good. Hands down in the last 12 months we have not had any rapper in Nigeria that has been this prolific. Have you listened to his free album called "Illegal music" ? and he is supposed to drop a third album this year. Apart from that he has been featuring on a lot of songs. He has shown a lot of consistency and I think he is worth the hype. I have also seen him perform and he is quite a performer. Finally you shouldn't compare MI to D'banj, they do 2 different types of music. And yes that line "sick like syphillis" is weak but Snoop and Lil' wayne have used worse. |
What is happening to the female Rap scene? |
IT is true O that you have conquered Lagos doesn't mean that U hav conquered Naija. MI is a talented rapper and performer. I think he can play both the commercial side and purist hiphop. The truth about music is that it is subjective. It is not so much about your talent but the size of your buzz. I mean look at Olu manitain back in the day there were times he got stoned with pure water but look at him now. I believe if MI works on his buzz in Owerri and goes back there, he will tear it up!! |
ElRazur I agree with you totally. I have had the privilege of talking with some Nigerian artistes and most their income comes from shows and corporate sponsorship. Regarding the sales of CDs, that is just like a marketing strategy to promote the artists brand. What usually happens is that the artist sells his Master copy to people like T-joe. It is people like T-joe who actually makes most of the money off of CDs not the Artist. |
I have heard 3 of his songs and I think they are tight. I think this guy has the potential to be bigger than D'banj!!!!! |
The chicks are good but they need to infiltrate Lagos and I think they need an image consultant and tighter beats. I wish them well |
The tune is very catchy, much props to his beat maker. The fact of the matter is that this song will probably hit. Nigerians don't really respect lyrics. Let's wait and see. |
Is this offer still available? |
