The next morning, Jenny asked me to put a call through to Mr James and find out what his plan was. I did and it went through

James: hello my sister, I already called your oga he said I can see him by 12:00 pm so am waiting. Whenever it's 11:30, I'll take off to that office address you gave me and tell him everything. Abeg no vex for me oh.

Me: thank you very much James, God bless you for me. Please flash me when you are done with him

Then I hung up. Jenny told me not to worry that everything would be fine soon.

Jenny: but Ada, what if Henry comes begging, asking you back into his life?

Me: Jenny honestly, I still have feelings for him but Sweety it stops there. I can't go out with Henry anymore. He doesn't love me and I can't force him to even if he comes back, he's doing so because he'll be feeling guilty for what he put me through so all I'll do is tell him I've forgiven him so he'll be free to move on. You see, a lot of people like u- still love me and I don't want to let you guys down anymore

Jenny: you didn't let us down Ada, some things just happen and we learn a lot from them. My fear is for u not to keep living in this and end up not falling in love anymore.

Me: Jenny I can't say, I've been betrayed and hurt by the one and only man I ever loved and cared about. I don't know if I can give another man that chance again

Jenny: I understand dear, let's just pray that God will help us set things right from today. But for now, you know na

Me: what?

Jenny : I want to give us a treat

Me: tell me about it

Jenny: first of all, I'll make a delicious breaky as Mike will join us soon then I'll take it from there

Me: serious? Jenny u don dey make me develop long throat this days o

Jenny: ehe na. Gimme a minute.

Jenny ran out of the house with her purse and got back with veggies and eggs. She got into the kitchen as I cleaned up the house. Then she made a delicious pot of noodle with greens and tomatoes, shrimps, eggs, fish and spice. I scooped from the pot and ran off as she ran after me to the gate, I ran out of the gate with the big spoon I had then I finally ran into Mike!

Mike: (all smiles) Ada what's going on?

I ran and secured myself behind him while Jenny ran to attack me.

Me: is it not this your troublesome wife?

Jenny: me abi... You will see today

Mike tries to separate us.....

Mike: hey hey hey hey.... It's OK. Alright you girls calm down. I won't give you what I got you if you don't stop fighting o

On hearing that, our fight ended and we both rushed to hold him

Mike: good girls. Now let's go inside and I'll show you.

We went inside and he gave us our packages. I got a wrist watch and a pair of glasses, didn't care to know what Jenny got but we both jumped on him in joy. We all ate from one tray and watched a movie then Jenny and I got dressed after our bathe and we went to hang out with Mike.
That evening, I got a call from James.

James: sister Ada, I've finished with him.

Me: OK did he understand?

James: yes he did. He was furious. He nearly got me arrested... But we settled and he told me I had to help him reach you. I gave him your number because he said he doesn't have it anymore.

Me: thanks my dear. God bless you

James: bless you too. I'll be available whenever you need me.

Me: thank you

I hung up and told Jenny everything we talked about and she assured me all would be well soon.
That evening, Henry called...

we all took our seats and then he began narrating

Him: honey you remember Judith? Mama Emma's younger sister that works in one rich man's house.

Him: yes, it was that whitey that also told me that you were pregnant and that I should claim it was mine and put up a show in the hospital that the baby is mine since Judith told her that the family doctor just called her supposed husband to inform him that you have lost his baby.

Me: oh my God! Why? Why is this world so cruel?

Midwife : mmmmmm it's well. You see, the deed has been done. What we have to think about now is how to give this young lady her life back

Him: sister please am really sorry. I can't believe the same person I robbed of her happiness just saved the life of my wife and daughter. See eh first thing tomorrow morning I will go to your oga's office and confess to him please all I wneed is his phone number and office address

We all exchanged contacts I left based on trust that everything would be fine again. Went home and told Jenny what happened.

Jennny: what? Eh eh eh eh eh Ada am not smiling with you o. Are you playing or what?

Me: Jenny you know say I no dey play reach this level na

Jenny picked up her belt, buckled it and starting putting on her slippers

Me: babe where you dey go?

Jenny: Henry house. I dey go beat Judith and that ashewo

Me: no now, the man go go Henry office tomorrow

Jenny: tomorrow too far. Why wait till tomorrow when we can squeeze the truth out of their necks this night?

Me: no Jenny just be patient and help me pray that everything will be fine by tomorrow. Although after all that have happened, I really don't feel like having anything to do with Henry anymore but at least let it all end on a good note, a proof of my innocence.

Jenny: I understand baby. You've been through hell I tell you.

We both prayed that night and went to bed.

Stranger: Ada why did you do it? Baby how could u?

We all had a startled look on our faces...

Me: sorry, who are you and have we met?

Stranger : so you actually have the guts to ask me that question Ada? After all we've been through? Baby couldn't you just wait for me to get a source of Taking care of our baby? Why did u kill it?

Me: Jenny what is this idiot talking about? I don't even know him

Jenny: excuse me Mr man. Who are you and what do you want here?

Stranger : oh so you are Jenny? Thank God I finally met you. My name is James, am the father of the baby Ada just aborted.

Henry: what the bleep is going on here? Somebody say something

Me: I dunno him. I dunno what he's talking about I swear

Stranger: baby why are you denying me like this?

Before I could say Jack, Henry stood up and walked out of the hospital ward and that was it! He never came back. I was too busy trying to convince every other person of my innocence that I didn't notice when the stranger walked out. He kept showing up everyday in the hospital claiming am his girlfriend and that I aborted his baby. The third day which was my last in the hospital, he came with same storyline so I asked Jenny to get him arrested. For the first time in my life I noticed the confusion in Jenny's face was self defining. Before she could return with the two police me that were released to her, the stranger already left. I got so worried and didn't know what to do.

Jenny I must get that guy o. I must find him and sniff the truth out of him. If to say my palee get money I for say they pay am to blackmail me but abeg who go Wan do broke girl like me that kind thing na? I asked Jenny in one of our conversation. Jenny pleaded I took things easy.

Jenny: Ada if Henry is the man for u, he'll come back... The only problem is I won't let him have u easily this time.. As for that bastard, leave him to me. I'll find him..

Days passed and weeks followed and yet I heard nothing from Henry. Then I decided to move on again.
One day I was taking a walk along a path as I noticed the lady who was heavily pregnant and walking in front of me kept bending at pace. Then finally she started screaming for help. I rushed forward and caught her before she could fall and just then she said 'sister, my baby wan comot' confused as I was, I couldn't carry her but as I slowly tried helping her back to the road, I kept screaming for help. Finally a woman opened her door and took us in the she told me she was a midwife and she helped get the baby delivered as the baby was already finding her way out before we got into the midwife's room. She got her and the baby cleaned up with the hot water I boiled in her kitchen, got rid of the afterbirth and after a while the just delivered mother made a call with my phone as the midwife helped with a description to our location. The lady's husband walked into the room where I sat beside his sleepy wife and rushed straight to hold her. Just as he walked in, I knew that face was familiar. I gave no attention seeking movement until I remembered who he was...

The pains grew worse and I had no choice than rush to the hospital the next morning. As usual, Jenny was by my side. That morning we bumped into Henry's family doctor who informed us that he was there to run an operation on someone. He asked why I didn't come to his hospital to have my check up and I gave no answer.

Doc: that reminds me Ada. I've been wanting to see and talk to you about something

Me: I'll find time to come see you doc.

Doc: no Ada, it's really I important!

Me: I know sir but (then I became uncomfortable) I em.... (the pains increased and I bent searching for a way to reduce the pain as doc and Jenny helped me into the hospital)

Doc Ken and the residence doctor attended to me and put me in a ward.

Doc: Ada u are pregnant aren't u?

Me: yes doc

Doc: obviously, so have u been seeing anything?

Me: just little bleeding. I thought it was normal until I started having cramps. Very painful ones then I thought of checking the hospital

Doc: no Ada, u should have checked by the hospital immediately this symptoms were noticed eh. Don't worry, we'll try our best.

The last person I saw before falling asleep after my medication, was Jenny and then I went blank! Waking up later that day, I couldn't believe what the ward looked like. Henry??!!! and the workers in his house! What are they doing here??

Henry: baby (he looked like he had been sobbing or something)

Henry held my hand... I turned to look at Jenny. She had worries written all over her.

Me: just tell me the truth! How's my baby Jenny?

Jenny looked away, like she didn't want to say anything. Then I looked at doctor Ken who just came into the ward

Doc: Ada, how are you feeling?

Me: I have less cramps doctor. Like its fading away. Please how is my baby?

Doc: your baby.... Ermm. Well we thank God for everything. We lost the baby, there was a miscarriage

Hearing this didn't only break my heart, it shambled it! It gave me more reasons to hate the man I once loved... The one who put me through all this. I cried for a while then stopped and just listened to everyone who had words of encouragement for me. That night, I could eat nothing. Henry tried all he could to get me to eat but I didn't then one of the worst things that happened in my history with Henry surfaced! Just right through the door, a stranger walked in...

I kept running in and out of the bathroom to throw up.

Jenny: Ada sorry. Which kind malaria be this na?

Me: Jenny no be malaria! I think am pregnant.

Jenny: I understand. Oh no... Ada you know what? Let me go to the pharmacy and get a P. T strip (pregnancy test strip) eh. Am coming.

Jenny got back later with strips and we ran tests....

Me: no need Jenny. The Belle dey am... I haven't seen my period till now so am sure it's real

Me: Jenny am confused! Can't believe am carrying his child.

Jenny: OK, so what do we do now ?

Me: I'll go check on my mum before it starts protruding then I won't visit home until it's born. I'll give birth to the baby and take care of it myself. Not even the father has to know

Jenny: Ada are you sure this is a good idea? I think we should think this through again o. I don't want you to get hurt anymore fa

Me: no Jenny... I won't get hurt. I got pregnant out of love and trust I gave a man... My baby has the right to also feel that love. I'll have it and Carter for it on my own.

Jenny: (almost in tears) no my sister, not on your own... On Our own. Am with you every step of the way my love. Am happy you are ready to keep this baby, least I can do is to support.

I buckled up and started working harder to ensure my baby will have the best once it's born. Visited my mum like I said I would but instead of lying, I told her the truth about all I had been through. She cried with me, prayed for me and told me she was behind me whatever decision I took. Went back to Abuja and continued my hustle. Mike and Jenny were so helpful at this point and I just can't thank them enough (can't because they are still same old Mike and jenny).

Days passed and I was beginning to develop funny but painful cramps. Jenny and I thought it was normal until we went to the hospital for a checkup.. That was were my life got reshaped!

Wetin pain me pass be say we dey together dey suffer and hustle him no leave u in peace for ur right man to come o he came from nowhere to break ur heart. GOD Go punish that guy. Chai ee no go better for am. See how him allow u dey cry. See my baby done lean finish in how many days. See how beautiful u are, everybody go want u... People wey pass am sef eh... He will see me today. I must call agbero boys for him and that ashewo him keep for house.

Me: (in tears) no Jenny don't go back please. Don't worry, I forgive them. For everything they put me through I know God will fight for me. Let's forgive them and let them go.

Jenny: Kai ooooo ooooo. Ada stop been weak mana.

Me: am not weak Jenny. It will all be over soon

Jenny: if you don't want me to go then stop crying if not I just come house come open my diary make I copy one of my padi number control am enter that house o

Me: no... I no cry again abeg leave am.

Jenny hugged me and made me have a warm bath then we ate and she talked me to sleep. Woke up the next morning to meet her cleaning the house.

Me: Jenny you go late for work o. Abeg go baff I go cook something make u chop then when u commot I go clean up

Jenny: no oh. I no go work today. I tell Mike what's up so he even advised me to spend some time with you till u heal

Me: (I gave her a hug) Jenny you are the best. Thank you..

That day, Jenny and I had a girlie time and I made sure we discussed less about Henry. Days passed and soon it was two weeks and I decided to start up a mobile boutique with the little I could raise. I'd go to kano state, purchase laces and wrappers and other fashionable materials, get back to Abuja and sell them making 50% gain on almost each product. Things were beginning to make sense and I was beginning to love my self again! Jenny became the manager of the supermarket/pharmaceutical company she was working for and we were happier things were turning around. One evening, as we were watching a movie and eating popcorn something happened and my fears were confirmed!

Right there before me.... The love of my life, Henry and Cassandra there having a shower!

Me: Henry!

Then they both realized they got company. They both got their towels on and I ran out of the bathroom... In tears I ran straight into my room and locked the door, headed straight to bed and started crying using my pillow as a mute instrument as my sobbing was audible. My heart was pierced! I heard knocks on my door but I couldn't make up my mind on opening. My phone rang severally but I didn't pick up. I felt like my whole world just crumbled and crashed... What did I ever do wrong? Henry what did I ever do to you?! This and many more were the questions running through my mind. In my sob, I fell asleep and didn't wake up until I heard a heavy hit on my door... The door flung open and there he was with some workers in right at the door. He told them they could go and he came into the room and sat beside me. We both said nothing to each other then I broke the silence

Me: why? Why did u do it?

Henry: baby.... #sigh# baby am sorry. It just happened I...

Me: you told me she was an old friend. Why?

Henry: I.... I emm

Just then, Cassandra walked in. Henry baby, am still waiting ' she said. Henry stood up and walked away with her. I cried some more, washed up and took a few clothes then went to Jenny' s. Told her everything and she just couldn't take it

Jenny: Ada I don't understand what you are saying o. I no hear u at all

Me: na so o. I lost Henry to that akata

Jenny: and u are here crying! Stand up let's go and beat that girl up. Na juju she do

Me: no. No need for that Jenny, no need

I cried so hard, couldn't sleep for nights... Prayed and begged God to change the reality into a dream! I got calls from workers in the house, updating me about the happenings in the house and advising me to be prayerful.
I tried calling him severally and he wouldn't pick up then I decided to check on him in the office.

Henry: Ada!

Me: I came to check on you and find out why you haven't picked or called me

Henry: yea am sorry, have been busy

Me: too busy not to care about my well being?

Henry: Ada look OK, I know it's not been easy but I just want you to know this things happen?

Me: I just want to know where I wronged you and why you've done this to me

Henry: you did nothing Ada, it's just nature and am sorry

I started crying right before him then he came over and touched me

Henry: Ada, am sorry OK. Look I want you to know that am here if you need me financially.

At that point, a feeling ran through my mind... A great feeling of dislike like I almost stared hating Henry.

Me: so that's it? You think money is the greatest thing in the world? So because I don't have as much as u do you decided to play with my feelings?

Henry: no Ada it's not that

I got up, pushed him and walked out of his office. I went into his house and found Cassandra watching a movie in a set of bikini

Me: I see you are enjoying yourself already

Cassandra: come on bi**h give up already. The point you don't wanna get into your head is you don't belong here. Henry's got class and you don't. Henry and I have gone a long way and no matter what little bit**es like u do, I'll leave and get back to him whenever I choose so shush alright.

Me: (tears in my eyes) no matter what you do Cassandra, you can't steal my happiness you know why? It's not in the hands of any man. I've always been a fighter and u can't take that away from me. So enjoy this while it last but I hope someone else doesn't hit you faster than you hit me.

I walked out on her! I went to my account officer and withdrew a major part of my savings, took it to an orphanage and delivered it in Henry's name and dropped his number. That evening, Henry called.

Henry: Ada I just got a call from an orphanage thanking me for donating money. Did you?

Ada: yes I did. I wanted u to know that your money mean nothing to me. That's my savings.. I don't need anything from u and I'll make sure you and I don't see each other again. I wish you luck!

Then I hung up and changed my Sim into the one I just purchased.

One day, on our way home from shoprite, I decided to bring up a discussion Jenny and I had the previous day to see what Henry's reaction would be.

Me: baby, I've been thinking about something

Henry: tell me about it

Me: I need to go back and live with Jenny.

Henry: (frowns and turned to look at my face) baby why would u want that?

Me: hey baby you're driving. Concentrate on the road

He drove into a street and parked the car

Me: it's because of our culture! It's more honorable that way, am not supposed to live with a man am dating. At least I need to create some sort of distance.....

We started making fun of each other Then he drove off. I called Jenny to tell her what had happened over the phone

We talked on and on and I decided to give my decision a second thought. Less than a week later, Henry asked me to get set for a journey

Henry: baby I need you to get prepared for a trip. We going to Paris baby!

Me: aaarrggghhhhh!!! Really? For business or...

Henry: pleasure!

I screamed and gave him a big hug. We planned, got our tickets and traveled, at this time , I had 4 visas on my passport and had my biggest fun and education through traveling with Henry. We got to Paris and I just loved the site. Really this was a city of romance! One day, while we took a walk to the Pont de l'Archevêché bridge with a padlock to lock our love, we met someone.

Henry is that u? The stranger inquired. Henry and I turned to face the stranger. Then Henry got quiet for a while and then he regained his speech

Henry: hi Cassandra it's been ages. How have u been?

Cassandra: am good. Didn't know you still visited Paris, I see you are with someone

Henry: meet my girlfriend Ada... Baby Cassandra is an old friend

Without sentiments, I gave her a hug and said hello. She wasn't so happy to meet me but how was that my business? We got back to our hotel room that night and Henry was unusually quiet. I tried finding out what happened and he wouldn't tell me so I decided to give him little space. The next morning, I felt his hand all over me as I heard

With my eyes closed, I nodded. He made love to me... Hard, rough, passionate anger. At a point I had to stop him

After that day until we returned back to Nigeria I could only try so hard to make him happy. Me: baby my mum isn't feeling so well please I need to check on her in Enugu to make sure she's receiving the right medication.

Henry: OK baby. I'll make some money available

Me: no, I have enough

Henry: you could run outta cash

The next day, I went to Enugu to check on my mum and ended up spending a week. I got back to Abuja without informing Henry as I got his favorite wine to surprise him and tell him how much I missed him. I gently opened his door and didn't find him like I was told from downstairs that I would but heard the shower running so I opened the bathroom door and my fears came staring at me in the face...

I was speechless! Chineke... I don die ooooo. Chai na wetin they dey talk about since be this? The size was massive and I started having difficulty with my breathing. It felt like a big lump covered my nostrils and denied me my breathe. He walked straight towards me and took my hands, pulled me out of bed as I stared at his muscular body.

Henry: are you nervous?

Me: yeah

Henry: I'll be gentle, I promise

She said nothing, only a simple smile. He went and gave her a hug and they both started talking about something I sensed must be important in a different language which I later realized to be Spanish.

Henry: so mum, meet Ada and Ada, meet my mum.

Me: good evening ma

Mrs Okafor : hello child, how are you?

Me: fine thank you ma

Mrs Okafor : am sorry for badging in on you like that. I was informed he's in here, didn't know he had company.

I bent my head and started counting my toes like I've never seen them before.

Mrs Okafor : by the way, his father is in and we'll be having a welcome dinner tomorrow night. Care to join?

Me: em em

Henry: yes she'll be there mum.

Mrs Okafor : OK honey, I gotta go. See you tomorrow and learn to lock your door

Henry: OK mam. Good night

She locked the door behind her and I stood there confused! Henry came closer and held me from behind as I had my back turned to him and stood at akimbo.

Me: Henry stop. Your mum saw us it's so embarrassing

Henry: baby come on, it's normal

Me: no its not!

Just then, he started kissing my neck softly and then my he hands went around my waist as he caress** my buttoc*s softly.

Me: Henry stop it... Please stop

He stopped and looked into my eyes. 'Ada what's the matter?'

Me: we need to take things slow. This is all happening to fast.

Henry: I understand.

He placed a soft kiss on my forehead and afterwards helped me rearrange my wears from the luggage into my wardrobe. That night, we cuddled and slept on my bed and each time I woke up to urinate, I'd catch him staring at me.

The next day, we went to his family house and I met his family. They were lovely and I was glad I finally met them. Days turned into weeks and then two months passed since Henry and I started dating. One evening while I was in my room reviewing a proposal his secretary wrote for a contract we were working on getting_when Henry called and asked to see me.
I went into his room only to find out he's in the bathroom. I sat and waited patiently until he was done then he came out without his towel and my eyes went directly to his....

Henry: (comes closer and plants a softer kiss on my lips) Ada, I think I've fallen for u. Look, ever since I met you everything changed. Am happier, less bossy and more friendly and so much more. Am a better person with u around me Ada. Please don't go

Me: am going nowhere! But you and I know that nothing can ever happen between us. Yes I must confess that there's a sort of attraction between us but it has to stop there Henry

Henry: stop? Why??

Me: yes stop! Because we will only end up hurting each other's feelings.

Henry held my hands and and dragged me even closer. I could feel his heartbeat as his hard chest was just right where my frontal view stopped.

Henry: baby don't say that. Am not planning to hurt you

Me: neither am I. But it's nature and it's bound to happen. You'll either see someone better from your class or your family won't like me. Moreover, this is unprofessional I shouldn't date my boss.

Henry: well write me a resignation letter and we'll stop working together... Your allowances remains. As for the other factors you talked about, let me handle them. Please Ada

Me: Henry... This won't work!

He stormed out of the awaiting room and walked out on me.
Things changed, Henry nags and threatens at every given opportunity, stopped eating or hanging out with me and so on. One day, I decided to talk with him and find out what changed.

Me: but u changed Henry. You hardly talk to me, hardly eat the meals I prepare as peace offering and also u make me feel uncomfortable. What is going on?

Henry: must I do all those things? Tell me. Why don't you get all that from your new boyfriend?

I walked out on him this Time and went upstairs to pack up. While packing up, I felt his presence but put up a show of been ignorant.
