ElSudani:This will be an interesting conversation ![]() |
ElijahIme1992:Hahahaha...and you travelled to Niger because you had to, I guess ![]() Well, traveling is fun, expensive and stressful irrespective of your mode of transportation. However, it provides you lots of networking opportunities and you get to learn a lot too...if you have an open mind and if you travel safely too. |
Lamanii22:Hehehehe...now you make me want to try a similar Korean dish. Hope I find somewhere around me. But hey, the food was good! I enjoyed it. |
Lamanii22:I think it takes both the politicians and the electorate to build the country. Yes, they have the money and the laws to back them but if we do not hold them accountable, they get to misappropriate public funds and go Scott free. Also, there has been times where people have been caught destroying public properties and looting offices. Rebuilding or even maintenance costs a lot. And as you know, maintenance has been a problem for several governments since time immemorial. In nobody's defense, I'll say that we (the people) need to start holding our elected officials responsible for their actions and inactions and also taking good steps to protect the little we have. We could stop littering the roads, urinating in public places, and a long list of things. You may think these little actions do not matter in the grand scheme of things, but they do. Yes, we do not have public toilets and bins in a lot of places but if we get to change age-long habits, our environment will improve. |
drololaaof:Ah...emabinu oo. No vex ![]() |
Xfactor88:I'm really not conversant with the map yet...but let me see. Okay..just checked and I see your area. Well, it was approximately 8-9 hours with several stops from where I took off from. You know it also depends on where you will be going to. You could check google maps. It helped me a lot! |
lereinter:Be careful what you wish for Not everything are as they seem...just a kind reminder ![]() |
dauntless15:Be easy on yourself. Good things come to those who wait on God and are led by God- and take actionable good steps in the right direction. I think you can find joy wherever you are while anticipating better opportunities. If you don't, you'll be doing yourself disservice ![]() I hope you play your part too...in the forthcoming elections. For some, they're putting in the work and not getting their desired results. It might be comforting to know that things will add up sooner than you expect. Keep faith. |
Reinamaria:I think it is noodles in black bean sauce...there's a lot of onions in it and small bits of pork. |
Reinamaria:Guess what, I'm currently listening to The Call (Chants). ![]() |
Japastic:Lol I didn't take note of that.Looking forward to your arrival. Safe travels ![]() |
wayforward2grea:I didn't drive from Penn State to Toronto ![]() I was in Columbus, Ohio at the time and took off from Columbus. But, I just checked Google Maps and it estimates a road trip from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) - without a more definite location to Toronto, Ontario (Canada) to be 8hrs 9 mins. Of course, this could change due to traffic and it could change depending on your actual take off and arrival points. |
KalakutaRepub:Right. I didn't understand the connection with the Queen until later. ![]() |
Next stop...Brampton, Ontario for an unplanned visit to see family. Didn't get to sightsee in Brampton...but I noticed it did not have a lot of high-rise buildings as Toronto. It looked like a simpler city that I judged was fairly more quiet than Toronto. Just like the US, you find some cities bubbling with activities and lots of magnificent structures while others are simpler.' I think the drive from Toronto to Brampton was fairly 1hr.

Gas - this was one among few things that threw me off upon arrival in Toronto, Ontario. In the US, gas was selling for $2.9 per gallon. So, when I saw prices like 141.9, it was not adding up in my head. It took some 'Googling' to understand that 141.9 was not 141.9 dollars but 141.9 cents and that was the price in liters. Imagine how shocked I was at first before finding out ![]() That's a picture of the pump and a random picture of a train track...when I was waiting for the yellow line (I think)

Enemyofpeace:Hehehehehe...right ![]() |
Streetmovement:Hahahahahaha...thank you |
Greystone:Thank you! I'm glad you like the pictures and following this thread. Yeah, road trips are fun (if you like driving). It's even better if you have good company and have at least one person that can take you good pictures too ![]() |
Eriokanmi:Lol...do you mean well? For real! It's a 'beauri' I'd have missed out on a lot if I slept off (when someone else was driving). Good to know you're familiar with the environs |
ElijahIme1992:Lol! You have recommendations of places I can visit? Or fun things to do? ![]() I'll welcome them wholeheartedly |
Nolevel666:While you may have reasons to believe this, I'd like to have a positive view about Nigerians. We can criticize all we can, we can talk bad all we can, but we need to show love to ourselves and be kind too. You know why? The way people see us behave around ourselves and treat each other is the same way they will treat us and talk about us. I don't mean we should hide truths or live in denial, but we could give Nigerians the benefit of a doubt. Mind you, people that live in Canada, US, and other global north countries are humans like us. We all have equal potentials for good and evil but what deters them from going overboard (many do still) are the systems of checks and balances in place and the regard for the rule of law. Once Nigeria strengthens its institutions and we no longer have a society with stronger individuals and weaker systems, a lot will change for good. Selah. |
Abbiamaka73:While I'm appreciative of the opportunity, I must admit that it's not easy peasy. Yes, steady light and being able to make small dollars that mostly goes into recurrent bills (rent, insurance on the apartment I'm renting, utility bills - i.e. internet, gas, water, etc., among others). The good doesn't negate the risks involved too. Sometimes, people work for many years and have little or no savings because of different factors. Last last, it is God that we are looking up to. People have different views and experiences about living abroad, the internet stories do not always portray what's really going on. |
Thank you to the admin(s) that pushed this thread to the front page. ![]() Much appreciated. I'm glad more people get to see this. Stay tuned. We have a long way to go...lots of fun things to share ![]() |
Interesting story...this was my first time using chopsticks ![]() I dare say I failed at the one and only assignment I had...to use chopsticks to eat Jajangmyeon. It was tough! I resisted the urge to use the fork and persevered till I finished lol. Hope to try it again. As they say, practice makes perfect...

After Leaving Yonge-Dundas Square, my next stop was a Korean restaurant nearby. I'm not sure what informed my decision to do that (I guess one of my new year resolutions is to try new dishes wherever I find myself). Oh..I remember! A friend who is a K-pop and K-drama fan recommended 'Jajangmyeon'. From wikipedia: Jajangmyeon or jjajangmyeon is a Chinese-Korean noodle dish topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang, diced pork, and vegetables. Variants of the dish use seafood, or other meats. Both the name and dish originate from Zhajiangmian. |
From wikipedia: Yonge–Dundas Square, or Dundas Square, is a public square at the southeast corner of the intersection of Yonge Street and Dundas Street East in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Designed by Brown and Storey Architects, the square was conceived in 1997 as part of revitalizing the intersection. The last two pictures are of Times Square, Manhattan, NY. Credits: Tino. Anna Merlits. (culled from Google). Sadly, I Can't post my pictures from my trip to Times Square.

After a swell time at Nathan Philips Square, my next stop was Yonge Dundas Square (you can call it the New York Times Square of Toronto). I did feel like I was in Times Square. It has similar architecture, lighting, and adverts as you find in Times Square. Per chance, I've been in Times Square so it felt a little close to being back in NY.
