HealthMonkey Pox Cases Rise To 74 In 11 States – FG by Boworld(op): 6:18pm On Oct 18, 2017
The Monkey pox virus outbreak has spread to 11 states with 74 suspected cases recorded, Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole has said.

Adewole made the disclosure in Abuja on Wednesday when he briefed State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Monkey-pox disease
President Muhammadu Buhari chaired the meeting held at the State House Council Chamber, Abuja.
The Federal Government, on Oct. 11 confirmed that 33 suspected cases of the virus were recorded in seven states.

Monkeypox is a rare viral zoonosis (a virus transmitted to humans from animals) with symptoms in humans similar to those seen in the past in smallpox patients, although less severe.

Smallpox was eradicated in 1980. However, monkeypox still occurs sporadically in some parts of Africa.
The minister, who updated the Council on developments in respect of the outbreak, listed the affected States as Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Nasarawa and Rivers as well as the FCT.

“The Council also received an update on the state of the public health of the nation. We informed the council about the latest development in respect of the Monkey Pox virus outbreak. So far as of today, there are 74 suspected cases in 11 states of the country.

“We have confirmed three from Bayelsa and 12 of the suspected cases from Bayelsa tested negative; four suspected cases from Lagos tested negative. We are still expecting the results of the other ones.

“We are also doing test at the African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), Edeh, to really understand the genomics of this virus.

“Even when they are negative, the laboratory attendant should be able to tell us what exactly they are,’’ he said.

The minister dismissed the assertion that the military was spreading Monkey Pox virus through vaccination.

He said that the military was never involved in any vaccination in the country, adding that any vaccination must involve state governments and the Federal Ministry of Health.

“It is also important to dispel the rumour circulating in the country that the military is vaccinating people and trying to spread Monkey Pox across the country.
“The military is not involved in any vaccination exercise.

“And I must educate Nigerians about how vaccination campaigns are done. The Federal Government will take the lead but we do not conduct campaign without working with states.

“So, there is no way we will do campaign without working with the states,’’ he said.

The minister announced that his ministry was conducting vaccination in only three states of the federation, namely Borno, Kwara and Kogi.

He stated that the cholera vaccination was being conducted in Borno while that of Yellow Fever vaccination was being carried out in Kwara and Kogi.

He stated that the ministry would soon start vaccination against measles while a nationwide vaccination against Yellow Fever would commence before the end of the year

Chief Olufemi Fani Kayode has knifed president Buhari over the recent revelation by the World bank that Buhari specifically asked for investments to be focused only on Northern Nigeria.

World bank president, Kim Yong Jim revealed that Buhari requested that the financial body should concentrate efforts on Northern Nigeria.

PoliticsNGR learned that Kim reportedly said: “You know, in my very first meeting with President Buhari he said specifically that he would like us to shift our focus to the northern region of Nigeria and we’ve done that. Now, it has been very difficult. The work there has been very difficult.”

He tweeted;

“President of the World Bank, Kim Yong Jim, has said that @MBuharitold him to concentrate their efforts on northern Nigeria.

Foreign AffairsRussian Su-24 Aircraft Crashes In Syria, Crew Killed by Boworld(op): 1:25pm On Oct 10, 2017
Russia says one of its Sukhoi Su-24 fighter jets has crashed while preparing for take-off from a military base in Syria’s northwestern Latakia Province, killing the crew.
“On October 10, a Su-24 skidded off the runway and crashed while accelerating to take off for a combat task from Hmeimim Airbase in Syria,” Russian media quoted a military spokesman as saying on Tuesday.
The Russian spokesman did not specify the number of the fatalities, but the Su-24 usually has a crew of two.
“The plane’s crew did not have time to eject and died,” he said, noting that the incident could have been caused by “a technical failure” based on a report from the scene of the crash.
Russian jets have been conducting air raids against Daesh and other terrorist groups inside Syria at the Damascus government’s request since September 2015.
The strikes have helped Syrian forces advance against anti-Damascus militants, who have been wreaking havoc in the Arab country since 2011

My First Day at School
My First Day at School :

A school is place of learning for a child. It is a training ground for him. Here he forms new associates, comes in contact with boys of different temperaments and forms new ideas and habits.

It is here that he prepares himself for the stage of life. So the right type of educational school is for great importance for him.

I was enrolled in a school at the age of five. It was a primary school. The memory of my first day in school is still fresh in my mind. It was a small school with eight rooms.
There were ten teachers including the physical instructor. The headmaster’s office was separate. The school had a compound with lush green lawns and flowers bedded.

My father took me to the headmaster’s office and got me admitted in the school. He gave me a packet of toffees to be distributed among my classmates.
My class teacher was very gentle. He encouraged me and treated me kindly. I felt a bit nervous in the new environment. The boys looked at me with wonder and smiled. I had with me English primer and got my first lesson in alphabet.

The bell for interval rang. The boys rushed out of the classrooms. Some of them gathered rounded me. They laughed at me and made fun of me. A few sympathized with me and befriended me. I had a novel experience.
The last bell went at three in the afternoon. All the boys felt very happy. I also took my bag and hurried back to my home.

- The political firmament in Nigeria is charged at the moment
- Political alignments and realignments are the order of the day
- President Muhammed Buhari has been dragged into the 2019 race by his supporters all over the nation barely two years before the presidential election
Youths from the north central part of Nigeria have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to seek a second term in office in the 2019 general election.
The youths, under the aegis of North Central Youth Leaders Forum, made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of its one day general assembly held on Sunday, October 8 in Minna, the Niger state capital.
The communiqué jointly signed by Alfa Nma, national coordinator, Nurudeen Iliya, secretary and Zara Ibrahim, chairman, Communique Drafting Committee, said the forum shall commence consultations with eminent Nigerians to convince President Buhari to seek re-election in 2019.
Calls for President Buhari to stay put at Aso Rock beyond 2019 are growing louder by the day

The forum said the call for President Buhari to stand for re-election in 2019 had become necessary given the positive impact he has made on the region and the entire country.

“After a critical assessment of the President Buhari’s administration and its impact on the good people of North Central Nigeria, we have resolved that Buhari should seek re-election in 2019.

“The entire north central youths are ready and willing to support him in that regard,”part of the communique read
It added that President Buhari needed a second term in order to sustain the ongoing war against corruption and to ensure effective management of Nigeria’s resources.
“We also resolved that the anti-corruption war of the federal government must continue irrespective of corruption fighting back in many forms.
“And while fighting corruption, Mr President should have it in mind that, there were some patriotic Nigerians who were fighting corruption during the previous administrations but corruption ganged up and they were framed to be corrupt.
“Such people should be immediately cleared and made to join the anti corruption crusade,”it added.
According to the communique, the north central states remain committed to the unity of Nigeria as the country’s strength lies in it diversity.
“The north central states are not part of any separatist agitation, ultimatum or whatever it is called as we are committed to one united Nigeria,”it said.
The forum also decried the inability of some north central governors to pay workers’ salaries despite bail out funds from the federal government. (NAN)
Recently, a group known as the Buhari/Osinbajo Democratic Awareness Coalition committed itself to promoting the achievements of the present administration ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The group stated that its decision stems from its believe that President Buhari remains the best candidate for the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 polls.

President-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nwodo, has advised Igbos to forget about Biafra and push for restructuring.
Nwodo stated this on Thursday while speaking at the 3rd inauguration of the state and local government executives of the Abia state chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
He said the realisation of Biafra was a “tall order”, which would not be in the overall interest of the Igbo in their socio-economic and political relationships with other Nigerians.
“We should forget Biafra and insist on restructuring. We must seek for peaceful ways of resolving the issues,” Nwodo said.
Nwodo also urged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to tone down their words, as hate speeches would not resolve any problem.
He said the proscription of the activities of IPOB by the South-East governors prevented bloodshed

SportsWhy We Lost To Nigeria Last Year — Zambian Coach by Boworld(op): 4:06am On Oct 06, 2017
Ahead of the crucial Russia 2018 FIFA world cup qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Chipolopolo of Zambia, Wedson Nyirenda has again boasted that he is Nigeria for the maximum points at stake.
Wedson Nyirenda
Nyirenda who spoke to Sports Vanguard in Abuja shortly before jetting out to Uyo yesterday said his team lost the first leg played last year because he was just 15 days on the job.
According to him, they have been rebuilding and the South African nation is now ready to tackle Nigeria with a formidable team that can snatch the sole group B ticket from.
While expressing respect for the Super Eagles who are plying their trade in some of the best leagues in the world, Nyirenda boasted that his team which surprisingly defeated Algeria home and away will even be motivated the more by the joy of humbling Nigeria at this crucial stage of the qualifiers.
“We are here in Nigeria for a serious business. Yes we have a lot of respect for the Nigerian players but today we are a different team from the one they defeated last year in Ndola. Before that game I was only 15 days on the job, but we are now fortified after overhauling the team.
“My boys now have the required confidence and that is why we were able to defeat the highly rated Algeria and you know it is not easy to beat such a big team. Nigeria has many big stars in Europe but that will even motivate us more.”
However, the coach accepted that the game is not going to be easy one especially with Nigeria playing in front of their home fans.
Nigeria is dictating the pace in group B with 10 points from four matches while Zambia are chasing behind with seven points from the same number of games played. A victory on Saturday will seal the qualification for the world cup for Nigeria.

PoliticsBiafra: Only Nigeria Calls Us Terrorists; Igbo Governors by Boworld(op): 12:02pm On Oct 03, 2017
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Monday blasted Southeast governors, describing them as Hausa -Fulani puppets.
IPOB also added that only Nigeria regards it as a terrorist organisation.

It further denied that its members were planning to destroy some police stations in Aba, Abia State, saying the allegation was part of a plan hatched to arrest and detain more of her members.

A statement by IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, accused Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu of being part of the plan to kidnap and abduct innocent Biafrans under the pretext that they were the perpetrators of some heinous crimes in the city.

He said: “IPOB has never engaged in any crime of any sort from its inception to date. There is no police station that can claim to have received any complaint of lawlessness or crime allegedly committed by IPOB.

“Our rallies and evangelism are all done in full view of the public and well attended within communities with no single recorded adverse incident till date.

“IPOB has never been involved in any retaliatory attacks or killing of any human being because we believe, along with our ancient values, that life is a rare gift from God, which is not in the place of man to take.

“Igbo governors, who are essentially Hausa Fulani stooges in government houses across the South East are doing their damned best to turn global opinion against IPOB.

”However, civilized nations and countries around the world know that IPOB under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is not and can never be a terrorist organization.
“The APC government of Nigeria headed by President Muhammadu Buhari, in collaboration with Governors Dave Umahi, Okezie Ikpeazu, Willie Obiano and others, is making every effort to tarnish the impeccable global standing of IPOB.
“This latest evil plot, already perfected, is designed to legitimise even more brutal deaths, arrests, torture and detention without trial at the hands of Nigerian soldiers and police.

”Okezie Ikpeazu, in his jealousy fuelled vendetta against IPOB, has unwittingly turned hitherto peaceful Abia State to a killing field for blood thirsty Islamic Jihadists from Arewa North, who are hell bent on spreading Islam to every nook and cranny of Biafraland.
“IPOB is therefore calling on all conscientious and civilized men and women, lovers of freedom, the international community especially USA, EU, Britain, Russia and France, to intervene to stop this horrendous ethnic cleansing going on in Abia State, for the sake of humanity.

“The scale of killings going on is a tragedy of immense proportions and until the world brings this to a halt, injustice will continue to reign supreme in Nigeria.”
PoliticsWe’re Not Planning To Destroy Police Stations – IPOB by Boworld(op): 11:47am On Oct 03, 2017
THE Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, denied yesterday that its members were planning to destroy some police stations in Aba, Abia State, saying the allegation was part of a plan hatched to arrest and detain more members of the group.
This came as scores of youths yesterday stormed Lagos, to kick against the country’s dismemberment; urging the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other ethnic groups behind the moves to limit their demands within the confines of the law, even as they argued that demands could be achieved through dialogue, rather than through violence which often leads to loss of lives and property in the country.
A statement by IPOB media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, accused Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu of being part of the plan, adding that the plan was a cover to kidnap and abduct innocent Biafrans under the pretext that they were the perpetrators of some heinous crimes in the city.
IPOB has never been involved in any retaliatory attacks or killing of any human being because we believe, along with our ancient values, that life is a rare gift from God, which is not in the place of man to take.”
Youths decry secession
At a gathering organized by a youth group, NaijaDay Foundation, yesterday, in Lagos, with the theme ‘Significance of peace and unity in Nigeria’, put in place to commemorate Nigeria’s 57th independence anniversary, the youths also urged government at all levels to keep their quota of responsibilities, so as to ensure adherence of peace and unity among citizens, especially youths.
The 2017 Mandela-Washington Fellow and Director, Prisoners Right Advocacy Initiative (PRAI), Ahmed Adetola-Kazeem, while addressing the youths, warned agitators to desist from hate speech while demanding for their rights in the country, just as he cautioned against overheating the polity with various hate moves.
He implored Nigerians not to share every post on social media because a lot of them were written to cause discord amongst Nigerians, stressing that every Nigerian needs to be armed with correct information and shun gullibility.

PoliticsFG Rejects U.S. Position On IPOB As Terrorist Group by Boworld(op): 6:08am On Sep 29, 2017
The Federal Government has described as “unfortunate” and “unacceptable,” the position of the U.S. Government over the declaration of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kany & The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, gave the government position Wednesday night in London when he featured on BBC Television programme, “Focus on Africa”.

The Minister, who stressed that the Federal Government was right in declaring IPOB a terrorist organisation, noted that he could not make up with the US seemingly disagreement with the position.

“It is very unfortunate, if countries decide to pick and choose which organisations are terrorists and which are not, bearing in mind that terrorism has no boundary.

“I think what we should do is that every country should work together to ensure that terrorism does not thrive,” he said.

Speaking on why the Government labelled IPOB a terrorist group, the Minister said, “the acts and utterances of IPOB were acts and utterances of terrorists”.

“For instance, Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader was caught on tape, saying that they want Biafra and not peacefully, but by force.
“He declared that if they do not get Biafra, Somalia will be a Paradise with the kind of mayhem they will unleash on Nigeria.
“The group openly embraced arms and ammunition and the leader set up Biafra National Guard, Biafra Secret Service and openly attacked army formations”.

When asked by the anchor of the programme, Peter Okwoche, why “other militarised group” like the Fulani herdsmen had not been classified as terrorist group, Mohammed said that “acts of criminality should not be confused with terrorism acts”.
He explained further: “When an organisation decides to not just attack the Army but set up its own parallel government;
“When an organisation openly solicits for arms all over the world; when an organisation starts issuing out its own passports and currency and does not recognise the democratically elected government, then it becomes a different thing”.

The minister said that Nigeria is so fragile and an attempt to allow such excesses from IPOB to continue could attract reprisal attacks from other parts of the country and set the entire country on fire.

The President General of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo, who was earlier interviewed on the programme, said that the labelling of IPOB as a terrorist group was “extremely unfair and lopsided.”
PoliticsBiafra: We Don’t Want War Again In Nigeria – Igbos In Oyo by Boworld(op): 7:38am On Sep 28, 2017
The Ezendigbo of Oyo State, Dr. Alex Anozie has stated that the proscription of the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was a right step in the right direction.
He also said the South-East governors and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo had taken a wise decision to save the region from another war.
Anozie said it would be unwise for Igbos to go into another war, having lost millions of their people in the 1967 – 1970 civil war.
The Ndigbo leader told newsmen in his Ibadan office, that Igbo regretted the civil war fought in the past, adding that the region could not afford to go into another war.
“It is a wise decision taken by the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and South East governors. This will douse the tension in the country.
“We don’t want war again in Nigeria. We have fought war before and lost millions of lives and property worth billions. We don’t want such a thing in this country again.
“I’ll advise our people to take it easy and continue to appeal to the Federal Government to listen to us so that our agitation won’t aggravate another crisis again. Igbos are the most committed group to the Nigeria Project,” he said.

PoliticsLatest Update As Senate President, Bukola Saraki Narrowly Escapes Impeachment by Boworld(op): 3:24am On Sep 28, 2017
POLITICS – Here is current news report which indicates that the Nigeria Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had on Tuesday, survived yet another impeachment move being spearheaded by Northerner Senators.

Base on information gathered the impeachment move came over Saraki’s declaration that the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, was illegal and unconstitutional.

Igberetvnews gathered from sources, that during the Tuesday’s closed-door meeting before the commencement of the Senate plenary, Senators from the North-East during the session, raised the issue.

Recall, that there were fears ahead of the Senate’s resumption, that the first day might be stormy, because some Senators had perfected plans to ask for clarification as to why Saraki responded the way he did, on the proscription of IPOB by the Federal Government.

A Senator, who spoke in confidence, said Saraki used the closed-door session and consolidated last week’s outreach, which he undertook to Senators from all the geopolitical zones ahead of Tuesday’s resumption.
“Of course, some Senators from the South-East were reluctant to align themselves with the position of the South-East Governors for political expediency; and when Saraki said IPOB’s proscription was unconstitutional, many believed he said it in solidarity with the South-East Senators, who form part of his support base.

“But that is not totally correct; there is the issue of national interest because, we too from the North have the interest of our Constituents at heart. Many of them thought the Senate is against President Buhari, and this is a wrong perception.

“Therefore, we all spoke during the closed-door meeting, and at the end of the day, it was agreed the issue should not be debated in plenary, because what needed to be done by various stakeholders have been done. The South-East Governors have spoken, Saraki had asked for due process to be followed , and the Federal Government did the needful. At the end of the day, the court had decided. We felt it was a win-win situation, and therefore, there was no need to go and strip ourselves naked in the market”, he said.
Efforts to speak to Senator Abaribe was unsuccessful, as he neither answered his calls, nor replied to the text message sent to him last night.

The three-point resolutions go thus: “The unity of Nigeria is not negotiable, and we are fully committed to the territorial integrity of the country.

“We will seek all possible avenues to make sure that peace reigns across the country.

“Advise all groups that are pursuing one agitation or the other, to do so through constitutional means.”
