EducationRe: Why You Must Finish With At Least A 2.1 by boxiposhags: 11:44pm On Sep 10, 2014
Olutola88: I'm really exhilarated for this young man. He is very lucky and privileged to get this information at this critical time of his career. He is just about to get into the University.
Here is my piece of advice for him and anyone in this category:

1. Understand that you need GOD in all your endeavours

2. Set a goal for yourself as you are entering the school( preferably a First Class)

3. Make sure you complete Registration and other necessary things as early as possible.

4. Try as much as you can to secure accommodation on campus( at least for year one). For those of you that cannot cope living with up to 3 or 7 other people in a room, get a decent apartment somewhere not too far from the campus

5. Start receiving lectures and make sure you don't miss lectures

6. Visit your department and look for the best students in 200L, 300L and 400L or even 500L. Tell them you are a fresher and that it's conspicuous you know nothing and you'll want them to be your mentor. You can have up to 4 mentors( e no dey too many)

If you are a lady, it's possible some of them( guys) will want you to date them. Just make sure you are diplomatic in telling them NO but if you think you are mature enough to handle a relationship you can say YES to the one you like. Nevertheless, I wouldn't advise you to start having a boyfriend in your first year. Remember the daughter of whom you are *lol*.

Now the stage is set. You now have the best students as friends/mentors.

7. Make sure you see at least one of them daily and show him or her your lecture notes. Let him check and tell you whether syllabus has changed or it's same. The best student in 200L might be very useful to you as there will be little or no difference between what he was taught and what you'll be doing.

8. You can tell him or her to tell you when he or she reads. You can also tell him that you'll like to go to class with him to read at night and during the weekend. With this, you will be getting personal tutorials from him, getting past questions from him and you'll be on top of the world

9. You can ask him for past notes and possibly read ahead of the class.

10. When exams are approaching, make sure he explains every little thing you don't understand to you about 4 weeks to exams. And when it's about 2 weeks to exam, practice 3 to 4 years past questions.

By the time you do all these, you'll definitely finish with nothing less than a 4.7 out of 5.0. CONGRATULATIONS young scholar! That's a 1st class and that's a good foundation. You are now in 200L. You now understand the school and how everything operates very well. You are mature enough to stand on your own but I'll advise you still work with that your mentor.

Now, you can turn your 4.7 GP into hundreds of thousands even before leaving the university! Did I hear you say how?( Your ears don open wen u hear money) Lol!
The secret is Scholarships. We have a number of good companies that give merit undergraduate scholarships to high-performing students. You can rake in as much as 400 thousand naira per annum till you graduate. Close your mouth! 400K is small money.

All you need do is to subscribe to one of these websites that give updates on undergraduate scholarships in Nigeria. Apply when the application is out, go for their aptitude tests, pass it and start collecting your cool cash even as a student.
Companies like MTN will give you two hundred thousand naira ( N200,000 ) per annum, Shell will give you around 100K, Chevron around 90K, Exxonmobil around 100K amongst others.

Unfortunately, I didn't get this kind of information when I was like you but thanks to my dad he told me that he saw one scholarship advert in the newspaper and that I should apply( Then, I was already in 300L). The requirement was a minimum of 2.1, I applied and was short listed for the test. I took the test and passed. I was on a scholarship of 100K per annum till the end of my course.

I know you will want to ask me how one can make up to 400K per year. It's simple, apply for as many as possible scholarships. After I got my scholarship, I met about 5 guys that were benefiting from 3 different scholarships each.

I'm already tired of typing, so I have to go. But before I go, I'll like to let you know that as much as you are reading like your life depends on it, also make sure you try and engage yourself in other activities like sports, social activities, politics if possible, make a lot of friends, attend departmental and faculty dinners, develop your leadership skills, develop your communication skills( both speaking and writing) as all these will be required life after school. Don't make yourself someone that knows book alone, that thing sucks I tell you.

I took part in almost all reasonable activities when I was in school; I was academically sound( tho, I didn't finish with a 1st class cos I wasn't hard working), I took part in sports, politics, I was a Master of Ceremonies, A Radio Presenter, A writer etc and all these didn't say I shouldn't face my studies. I was referred to as the “COMPLETE STUDENT”. It's about knowing God, knowing what you want and managing your time well. I have to go now. Bye!
very true. i am in my final semester and i intend to finish with a 4.32 although i wasnt serious in school because of his aforementioned. even for admission at Cambridge your grade matters (http://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/international-students/international-qualifications)

Jennimma: Is it godly to dance worldly steps in church?
Most of the youths in our churches enjoy dancing steps they learn from secular music like "skelewu" and such likes...and most of our pastors say little or nothing about it. I kinda feel its not right.
Should christains copy worldly dance steps? Can't we create our own dance steps?
Comments allowed.
fyi ...its Godly not godly.. in other news secular dance steps were created and adapting them in the church isnt wrong. you can still introduce your holy dance steps grin
FashionRe: How Will You React When You See Someone Wearing The Same Clothes As Yours? by boxiposhags: 1:05pm On Aug 31, 2014
devour129: Got this analysis from someone please READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My foolish analyses: It helps to lay the fact down. First, Patrick Sawyer was infected in Liberia, it was not a secret as his employee, a ‘private’ International mining company suspended him indefinitely and referred in him for observation and possible quarantine after they found out he may have contacted the virus. The company also sent memos to all staff of the company regarding this, and possible the American Embassy (Patrick is an American – and would generally be expected to carry his American Passport and not a Liberian Passport – Remember how long it took the First hospital to find out Patrick was Liberian).

Second, Patrick and his friend the deputy minister of finance for Liberia were able to plan his disguise and transport to Nigeria. Why did Patrick agree to put other people at risk this way, after all he was a public health consultant – and knows better than most people the implications of his actions. I was not intentional. He honestly did not mean to da any harm.

Patricks friend in a desperate effort to send him to Nigeria, listed Patrick as a staff of the Ministry of finance of Liberia, an “impersonation”. This was what granted Patrick diplomatic coverage to begin his journey and escape from quarantine.

Why will the senior government official do this? Patrick is his friend, and he would do anything to keep his friend alive. That said, why Nigeria? The answer is simple and was already given by Patrick’s widow (read the CNN article), she said “Patrick was not a wicked person, but a kind and gentle man who will not hurt anyone: he only embarked on the journey to Nigeria to receive better health care”. This was confirmed by the CCTV images of Patrick at the Liberian Airport. He avoided contact with anyone, even on the plan. He was not a wicked person, and was probably well described by the widow.

Patrick, “the fake diplomat”, was received at the airport by Liberian embassy delegation, with the official vehicle and an official driver (all approval and clearance given) at Lagos. Of course, the person who received Patrick knew he was coming for Ebola treatment, with a privately arranged Nigerian Doctor in a hotel room already booked and paid for. Everything was set and ready, but Patrick was not strong enough to make the trip to Port Harcourt where the Doctor was waiting to commence his end of the deal. The Doctor had been fully paid in advance for the treatment of Patrick by Patrick himself, the Liberian embassy staff and government worker were just there to help make all the necessary connections and provide diplomatic cover.

The Liberian Embassy staff also knew the Doctor(s), who do the business in Nigeria. These Doctors possible advertised their services to the various embassies of affected countries. The fees are not for small boys, only the wealthiest can afford the service. Of course you also need some form of assistance from your embassy in Nigeria.

When Patrick was restricted, despite several intensive effort by the same Liberian diplomat, to get Patrick out of First Hospital at Obalende, he lost hope. Patrick did not even trust the First hospital enough to believe they can also manage his case. Instead, he lied so he could be released to go to the already prepared Doctor in PH, who claimed to have been treating the disease with success. For Patrick, and his fellow countryman the Liberian Diplomat, it was Dr. Iyke or nothing. Since it was clear Patrick was going no where, he decided to infect his enemies, the medical team at First hospital (wondered how Patrick knew that urine and spit where very potent ways to spread the disease – remember, he is an American trained public health consultant).

The Liberian diplomat on the other hand, knowing he has also been exposed, arranged to escape surveillance and went to meet Dr Iyke, again using his status as diplomat in Nigeria (any harm you do to him can be considered an act of war against Liberia). So a likely scenario could be that the observer attached to him, would be denied entry into his diplomatic residence, and simply told that “Oga is resting”. Sadly, this observer may have also been bribed to keep mute. (This should be investigated, as this diplomat was a very special suspect for the infected cases)

Dr. Iyke, who has already collected money had to do his end of the deal. Patrick was not going to come. So He treated the diplomat instead. Notice, also that the diplomat did not trust the Nigerian ebola centre to treat him, just like Patrick, He preferred Dr. Iyke who has been doing the treatment for many other patients in the past. True to his trust, Dr Iyke cured him successfully! And he returned to Lagos miraculously Ebola -free.

The point of my hypothesis, is that a number of Nigerian Doctors, in PH, may have been doing this business for high paying customers. There is possibly a syndicate, that organises the contacts. The Liberian embassy, and possibly the embassies of the other affected countries may have staff who know this and use the service.

Of course, this is all just my opinion based on mere piecing the events and pure logical reasoning. An easy way to find out, will be to trace the cash (I am not a journalist). Check the late doctor’s bank account for bulk transfers to his or his wife’s account. Also, that of the hotel that was setup and used for the treatment, and Patrick’s bank account for transfers to a Nigerian Bank account. If you follow the money, you will make all the necessary connections.

Ebola may have been in Nigeria earlier than Patrick Sawyer. Sawyer’s weakness and inability to make the trip to the Doctor, only exposed the Ebola treatment ring operating in Nigeria!

PoliticsBoko Haram Funded Through Central Bank Of Nigeria (cbn).- Stephen Davis by boxiposhags(op): 1:21am On Aug 31, 2014
It appears Australian hostage negotiator Dennis Stephen isn't done making outrageous and some would say 'eye-opening' claims. Just a day after he claimed that former Borno state Gov, Alimodu Sheriff and an unnamed retired army chief are sponsors of Boko Haram, he's now claiming that the insurgent group if funded through the CBN. In an interview with TheCable, Stephen claimed a senior official of the CBN handles the financial transactions of the sect group.

Read what he said ...

"One of the biggest of suppliers of arms and military uniforms to the JAS (Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, better known as Boko Haram) currently lives in Cairo, Egypt. He is the recipient of money sent by political sponsors from Nigeria. The funds go through the CBN’s financial system and appear to be a legal transaction. Meanwhile, the CBN official who handles the funding is an uncle to three of those arrested in connection with the Nyanya bombings. The three boys lived with him. They were arrested by the SSS (Department of State Security) after the bombings but they do not seem to have been interrogated about their uncle in CBN. Or if they have given up information about their uncle then the SSS has not moved against him."

He further said.......

"Also, a senior official of CBN, who recently left the bank, was very close to Sodiq Aminu Ogwuche, the mastermind of the Nyanya bombings who also schooled in Sudan. Boko haram commanders said Ogwuche’s wife used to visit this top official in his office at the headquarters of the bank in Abuja before the Nyanya bombings. They were very close,” Davis said.

He said he is speaking out now because he feels the Federal government is doing little in the rescue of the missing Chibok girls "I have three daughters. I just cannot stand the thought of what those girls are passing through. I have spoken to an escapee who described how she was being molested for 40 days by militants. I can’t stand it. It is heart-breaking. Nigerian authorities must act decisively now,”

EducationRe: Third Class And 2.2 In Our Federal Universities. by boxiposhags: 5:18pm On Aug 27, 2014
LARRYDKING: If u've heard of or experienced the several rigorous tests and screening students of federal varsities have passed through before been offered admission, u'll only but agree with me that it's just the best brains in Nigeria that attends federal schs.

Unilag for example have the policy of admitting candidates who generally merit there admission irrespective of the number. Even thier supplimentary list is always choked up with students who have high score but could not still merit the requirementss. Very good examples of such requirements as it affects all engineering candidates/aspirants of the sch is the possession of at least a credit pass in F-maths at O/level, having a minimum of distinction frm a polytechnic before been quailfied for direct entry among others. After all these, some of their students still graduate will third class and pass.

OAU is another sch where where students who merit their admission can sit at home and expect their names in the first admission list of the sch, same applies in U.I and other federal schs.

Apology to the students of the state unis but this does nt happen in state unis, scoring high and meriting admission requirements cant be totally used as a yardstick for admission, just a phone call frm a prominent member of the society will secure one admission. So if they make 3rd class, we can't really blame anyone for it.

After beating all these requirements to be offered admission into the federal university, why do some students still make as low as 2.2, 3rd class and pass from their schools with all the tests they have passed showing their academic prowess huh

Share your view.
