it is an automatic. i can't get hold of the brain box right now cos my mechanics gave it to a dealer to help search for it over a year ago. i am make serious effort to get the number on the brain box. i Av park the car over a year, pls help to get it back on track

Alot of bad Ecus get lost in trying to find them.I understand your situation how ever getting you Ecu just like that will be very risky as i would hate to disappoint my first client here on nairaland,for instance i am able to find 5 diffrent type of ecus for your Neon which should fit the year 1997-1998 all the 5 part numbers below are all for neons 05289820AE,05269819AE,05293064AD,04606410AI,5293144AA, now how can i know which is your own ?? I think your best option is to try and locate your bad ecu or search where you might have wrote the part number down to avoid buying the wrong part,buying without the part number may result in even though car might start transmission may not select or fuel might be flooding the injectors or even though they are same years some ecus might be equipped with engine immobilizer while some are not,some use SOHC engines and some DOHC on this your particular model,there are so many things that could go wrong.I hope you understand. Yes sir,i suppose you mean to say Dodge Neon we dont have it in stock here but its very much available and can be hand delivered to you in Abuja in two weeks.You will need to clarify as there are 5 types of Ecus for the 1997 Neon

Elec Cont Unit (ECU), DOHC, MT, competition pkg
Elec Cont Unit (ECU), DOHC, MT, w/o competition pkg
Elec Cont Unit (ECU), SOHC, AT, Calif

if  you cant identify your model from above then you need to give me a serial number that starts like P/N P04_._._ i believe there are 8 digits if you dont have access to the Ecu i can use the Chasis number/Vin to decode and identify your ecu once i get any one you have i will give you the quote.Cheers!

Call it design flow or some other problem in my opinion the 2001-2003 Toyota Rav4 Brainbox is the most problematic ecu of all toyota cars and almost all the time it affects the transmission.I stand to be corrected though.

I would recommend you buy a used one from us at cost of #70,000 Naira.For the brand new one you are looking at a price of a little above $1,000 as it retails around $860 at most toyota authorised dealers.From my experience these Ecus work all the same perfectly new or used and you save alot when you buy used and the environment is the better for it if you believe in green ideas.see link to the new ecu below.
