[quote author=MduZA post=27684173]your largest GDP is like a big empty house, judging from your population...your GDP was supposed to triple the current one...in terms of global economic competitiveness Nigeria is in the tail beaten by countries like Lesotho, like I said your GDP is on paper practically dysfunctional [/quote..I agree with you that our GDP is underperforming based on our inflated population, reasons I had earlier explained to your compatriot(pls read the posts). A country that generates a power of about 3,000MW, with the security crisis which we created by ourselves and still post the highest GDP in Africa is quite impressive, but there is still a lot work to be done. Your comparism of we and Lesotho is quite ill-fated, a country of a population of appx 2Million, and still survive on a lot of economic aid, but they have one of the best literacy level in Africa(which I respect them for, and which is down to politics and policies), and which is landlocked(that has a way of influencing your GDP, a discussion for another day),and does not struggle with security, still has some job to do. A GDP value of a state influences investors confidence via investments, consumption and government spending. In the words of Prof Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee, good politics and policies are the fundamental bedrock of a developing economy. My last words on this issue.

I don't think you understand economics or how this GDP thing works. Oh & I wasn't even talking about Nigeria per se, just in general.
..You've still not understood me. The argument Mduza raised was about Nigeria. The last am saying on this issue

LaBellaMafiaZA:
It doesn't work like that, you have to consider the population up against the GDP to determine affordability.
..We have an est GDP of $500B, an inflated population census of about 160Million. Some of our government schools give free meals at least once every school day. Our GDP value is based mainly on direct or indirect crude oil transaction(s). Our natural/human resource have not achieved 40% exploitation/utilization. If you live here, you would understand. I have read a lot of economics books and jornals (the latest being Poor Economics, written by two Harvard professors), despite the fact I did sciences in school at lest I have an idea how this things work. I don't think the issue of finance is a problem in this country, leadership is.

The country vote is just a terrible idea for me. We might be the most populous black nation, but I do not believe Nigeria would win every season of BBA. We have the culture of voting for the best and not just because the person is a Nigerian. Very sad situation which I do not see a change in sight. The only change I see is me not watching BBA in some years time, which would take some guts too, because even when I was in school and had exams, I still stream BBA videos. This BBA revolution would definitely need to be strong, maybe a year or two boycott may draw their attention.

...I would go with the former. The problem is not alien to us. The countries on this continent who sincerely take care of it's populace could be debated. Remember, we have the highest GDP, the issue of affordability should never arise.

the US also provides social grants for its poor people,if you are indeed in America ,you should know this....remember it goes with caring and affordability...fact of the matter is Nigeria will never have this kind of system because your leaders don't care or your country cannot afford..

GHKWAME1:
Na true? grin
....Not true, most folks in this country listen to local stations. They fail to realise big brother votes are country votes. If it was individual votes that wins big brother, lots of private firms would go on a PR, even our housemates would create PR's via their relatives for votes.
