A Nigerian woman, Mariam Ohene with her four-day-old baby and a two-year-old son, has been rescued from drowning in the Mediterranean sea.

The trio, along with Ohene’s Ghanaian husband, Richard were among the 480 migrants rescued by humanitarian ships on Saturday in the central Mediterranean Sea.

Ohene and her family who had lived in Libya for two years said they made the move to leave the country for Europe immediately their baby was born, not anticipating what could happen at sea.

“76,” the movie which follows a soldier accused of being involved in the 1976 military coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed, is set to debut in Ghana.

The movie will premiere in Ghana on Friday, January 6, 2017.

The Yoruba movie industry yesterday recorded its first death of 2017 as one of its own, Toyin Majekodunmi, died. The veteran actress, popularly known as Iya Kike in Yoruba movie circles, died on Monday.

The cause of her death is not yet officially announced. Married to a fellow actor, Solomon Majekodunmi aka ‘Baba Kekere’, the news of her death was shared by actress and movie producer, Bimbo Success.

Repeated calls to her husband were not answered but a top Yoruba actress cum producer, Bose Alao, who is close to the couple, told an online news medium in a telephone chat, that her death was health-related.

It was around 9: 00 Monday night when my phone rang. I looked at the CallerID and saw the call was coming from ‘Danby, Todd.’
Great, I thought. My boss was calling me from home. Which was also strange considering I thought he was out of town on a business trip.

The 2016 Soundcity MVP awards took place at Eko Convention Centre in Lagos on December 29, hosted by comedian Basketmouth and on-air personality Dotun.

Tekno emerged the biggest winner of the night with three wins, including Digital Artiste of the Year, Viewer’s Choice Award and Song of the Year for ‘Pana’.

A 30-years-old man, JOHN ADEGOYA, was on Friday arraigned in an SURULERE Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling a 12 years old girl.

The accused, a retiree, who resides at musin, is facing a charge of defilement.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the offence was committed on dece 22 at the accused residence.

Inuoha said that the accused called the young girl to his room and defiled her.
“It was the cry of the girl that alerted her mother who rushed to where the cry was coming from and saw the accused molesting the girl,’’ he said.

The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
