Car Talk / Re: Police Aunctioned Cars: Kindly Share Your Experience by Brasstop: 7:32am On Jan 19, 2018
timifakay:

Are they accidented vehicles or stolen vehicles that were recovered?
Oga mi that is a nice question o. But one thing is sure- some were actually accidented vehicle, but some were not accidented vehicles. They look pretty clean most likely recovered vehicles or maybe people that flout rules? I will find out Sha, whenever I go there again.
But from a technical perspective, Timifakay, what are the likely fixes for such vehicles. I know battery, tires, maybe upholstery might have gone south. Electrical systems also(rats) but will it require changing transmission/engine?
Car Talk / Police Aunctioned Cars: Kindly Share Your Experience by Brasstop: 8:25pm On Jan 18, 2018
I was visiting a friend who happens to be a police officer. While in her office, I noticed some cars packed outside and that prompted my curiosity. She ended up telling me those cars will be aunctioned.

Pls share your experience if you have ever encountered such transactions.
Now to the technical aspect... Gurus in the house, do you think such cars that have been packed outside under the weather for months will still be worthwhile? What are the likely fixes to be made? Will such car amount to any good.
Pls share your opinion and experience

Car Talk / Re: Pls Between Civic 2001-05 And Nissan Sunny 2003-07 by Brasstop: 11:19am On Jan 02, 2018
nurey:

The Honda civic has no transmission issues from factory, when you pour wrong transmission fluid into any car transmission or refuse to change the fluid as at when due the mechanical part will fail. Most car owners in Nigeria lack information and refuse to seek it reason why we have high car part failure. You have done the right thing by seeking for knowledge and I am telling you the civic whether manual or automatic is a solid car all round.

The sunny you are talking about is the N16 made from 2000 to 2010, a greater percentage on Nigerian roads were bought brand new in Nigeria so don't expect custom papers but the European sibling badged as almera was imported the engine in that car was built to last, the only issue the engine has is the camshaft and crankshaft sensor, once this 2 sensor fails and you don't detect on time, it will get you stranded other than that, the car is a solid, low maintenance ride. Doesn't give leg problem, engine problems, electrical problems but if the body is pressed, no panel beater can reshape it back, and it's body is prone to rust and disfiguration grin

A 2005 civic tokunbo will set you back by 1.2 while a clean tokunbo sunny/almera (with navigation) 2010 will cost 1.2 but getting the almera in saloon form will be hard it comes mostly in hatchback.

For Nigerian used, the sunny is costlier as majority been put up for sale are 08 to 10 model years.
Tnx chief. You hit the nail on the head. You guys rock!

nurey:
Both are OK, I have used the sunny before and my sister uses the civic currently. The civic I will pick because of after all the beating and bashing, the body will still be solid, the sunny will start deteriorating and is prone to rusting.

The civic doesn't have leg issues like other Honda and the transmission is solid. Pick the Honda not because I said so because I have experience with both rides.
What about the famed transmission issue. I even saw some post on nairaland about tran that fails easily.
Thank you for your response.
The sunny 08 is not bad o shape wise

Good morning car gurus and car lovers,
Firstly a happy New year to everyone of us. I pray that this year will usher in joy and more financial upliftment

Pls kindly advice between Honda Civic 2001-05 and
Nissan Sunny 03-07, prolly naija used.
Point of consideration includes ruggedness, availability and cheapness of parts, durability and availability of knowledgeable mechanics etc
Secondly I heard the Civic is prone to transmission (gear) failure. Is it simply a case of poor main and wrong oil use or it is a defect.
Pls car gurus, users give your valuable experience.
CC: kingreign, nurey, Gazzuzz, diportivo and the other bosses, please come and assist.
Thanks all
Durability and dependability is top on my list of concern

Yeah. Nams77 is my business moniker. For oil and gas business. This one brastop is just an alternate moniker. Point of correction ma. I have not created any thread else where for this. This is the first thread I'm creating on this issue. Thanks for your keen observation. Most persons here have two monikers, probably due to mod ban.

It will make FP. we still have 3 working days to xmas... there is hope. don't give up yet.

I believe your post is genuine, though there are no pictures, no hospital name... no much details

the privacy ish is ok... but people are also parting with their hard earned monies, they need to be convinced this request is genuine.

cheers
I understand. due to actions of fraudulent people, genuine situations have been ignored. That's why I refused to put my account number or request payment to me. If you have someone in warri or you reside there, I can give directions to the hospital.
Surprisingly, a lady transferred some money down. She is a very kind hearted person. She has done her part. Debt has reduced to 73k. It was formally 86,000. God bless you ma.
I will be going to the hospital to remit. May likely put up pictures but without face.

How can we genuinely know people that are truly in need for Xmas ? Not just pouring water inside basket.

I have cash offer for two families that can't afford Xmas celebration. You will have to convince me and be ready to pass my interview. Nigerians are something else and I wish to give to people that don't have at all
I saw this post late. There is a family in need ( not mine). I created a thread about it this morning. It's about a baby who needs to be home before Christmas. She is under hospital arrest since she was given birth to. Pls kindly help out. I am not too tech savvy but let me see if I can past the link here

Good day,
Please sorry for this intrusion. As we are all looking forward to a merry Christmas with our lovely family, there is a little angel somewhere in warri that has not been home since she was born. It's been over two months now and she is still under 'hospital arrest'. The father is a tricycle rider and has succeeded in paying some parts out of the caesarian section bill (170k). The balance should be about 80,000 naira.
Please help this Baby get home this Christmas.
If you live in warri or environs or have someone down here and you wish to help, I can give you the address of the hospital so you can go and confirm.

I'm sorry I can't post their pictures ( privacy issue).
Thank you
I got to know about this case when my son was hospitalized there recently.

Yes it is possible to do that....here is the analysis.

If the land is in the south west. some part of Lagos State, or southwest state. I stay in Ogun State.

here we go.

You need 1000 blocks to build room and parlour self ....you need 500 blocks to build a room self.

here is how u will spend the money. land is not included.

Moulding block by urself would be the best.

Buy one man diesel Setting sand = 28k to 30k.

buy 20bags of cement

moulder will take 800 naira per one bag of cement. 800naira X 20bags of cement = 16000

water will take 2000 naira

25bags of cement @ 45units of 6" will give 1000 units block.

Total: 70030 naria

note that the man diesel truck sand u bought, u will only use half of it to produce blocks.

Let start building...

Plz note that at the stage, u don't need German floor. don't let anybody deceive u. I don't need it if the land is not water lodge.

What u need

cement: 15bags = 39000 naira
gravel: don't buy truck..buy the one inside cement sack. buy from someone in the neighborhood highest 350 naira per bag..get 20bags = 7000

you have sand already

water...5000 naira

if omonile showed up, drag it with them that u just want to do temporary structure..and find them something highest 20k

bricklayer..Negotiate very well. highest pay the bricklayer 50k to take it to limited level for you.

note: don't let the room and parlour too big. the parlour highest should be 12by14 feet while your room should 10by10feet the toilet and bath 4by6 while the kitchen should be 5by7. that is enough.

total 121,000 naira

doing your linted...here I don't need to do it round..just do the important place. windows and door..highest u will need 5length of 12mm iron. don't involve welder, tell them to help u cut it from where u are buying the iron..just tip the person shikena. 12mm highest is 2100 naira X 5 = 10500 naira

find local carpenter, negotiate with him including bringing his own plank to do the thing highest 10k. after call the bricklayer to come and fill the lintel

total spent = 25k

At this juncture u have spent overall total of

220,000 naira only...

To roof it.....Roof it the way shop is roofed. With this you will minimise cost on Materials.

Highest plank you will buy is 100pcs for 2by3 and 2by4. then 40 pcs of 2by2 for nogging.
2by3 is 400 naira or 450 naira highest while 2by4 is 500 naira, 2by2 is 250 naira. = 60k

use Aluminium zinc highest price is 25k per bundle (15pcs) by 3 bundles.= 75k

carpenter: highest 50K..using local carpenter with good negotiating power.

nails 3inches half bag 5k
others 10k
total= 200k

Finishing
for now, do only the bedroom ceiling..
window burglaries for the parlour and bedroom only.
dig the round soakaway for now 20fit will cost u 20k diggig and casting then buy pipes and channel the toilet, bathroom only there...
kitchen don't do anything for now...they can be using it till money comes
for the windows...do only the frame for room and parlour and put net only.

use the foiling sand from your soakway digging to fill the house and do the flooring..note always get gravel around..don't carry lorry. the balance of 80k should do all this highest additional fund will be 20k.

when money comes do the rest..
Tnx you sir. I appreciate

Pls do not give anyone the job as contract, pay per day. For the carpenters engage two young guys at 2500 per day and it will take two days to complete but if you more prudent, you can engage 3 at once two will be up while one joins wood for them and supply them materials up it can be completed in a day.
Tnx you sir

I think you can start up something and be prudent with your spending.
Rule 1: use a mason and agree on price per block which is about N50 inclusive of his helper.
You need about 588blocks for a room then I advice you include additional 180 for toilet and bathroom.Use 5 inches block and bargain for at most N110 per block.
Pay the Manson man like 1500 for him to mark and dig the foundation. As he is forming and laying the foundation he counts the block and you pay per block.

Dig the soakaway 6x6 ft, use the sand dug out to fill the house, use 10mm rod at the four edges for reinforcements and do not blind the ground channel both bathroom and toilet into it.

Use one bundle of Cameroon zinc to roof and PVC as ceiling.

Estimated expenses

Block and labour 150k max

Soakway with this method 50k max

Roofing and woodwork 150k max

One trip of sharp sand and 3/8 40k max

Twenty bags of cement 60k max
Misc 50k

Go ahead its achievable. Wish you well
Tnx bro. I appreciate your help

I will advice that she go ahead with the plan of building a room and a parlour apartment with your specifications, based on the experience I had in constructing a security house and pig pen recently in Benin City, with 500k in warriors area it should take the house to a point where the parents can move in and subsequently they give a a finishing touch.
The figures I will be giving here jamming based on the price in Benin City and last month I am sure there wouldn't be much difference.
For a room and parlour which is two rooms, a small kitchen and bathroom/tiolet.
Around 1080 blocks will be needed
A double trip of sand is 18k
27ags of cement = N2500*27=N67500
27 times N700=N18900
Sub total for blocks is N86400

SETTING ie block work
Bricklayer setts 100 block per day after window is 80 blocks but based onbargaining power you can arrange every work to be 100 blocks all through
Let's say 11 bricklayers at N3000 each service men 5 times N2000, we will have N88500

LITEL and pillar if theres any
10 bags of cement = N25000
Sand bag of granite at 500 per bag times 12 bags = N6000
2 Masons at N4000 each=N8000
3 service at N3500 each =N11500
Sub total= N52900

ROOFING
zink 5 bundles times N17000=N85000 (I even bought at N15500 )
Wood around N80000 maybe less
Carpenter around N25000 or less depend on your bargaining power
Sub total = N190000

SOAK AWAY
Digging 8ft by 10ft =N15000
Let say 120 blocks (but far less than) =N9600
Setting soak away3 brick layers at N4000=12000
2 service atN2500=N5000
The price is higher cos it's a pit work
2 bags of cement =N5000
Sub total =N46600
Slab for covering soak away
Granite N500 per bag times 5=N2500
Cement 3 bags =N7500
Sub total N10000

Grand Total =N474400
Let say the balance can take care of toilet system and maybe miscellaneous at it will get to a stage where they can move in within two weeks or less they can move in and it should be personally supervised maybe by her her father if she isn't that free.

God bless you brother. Thanks

Thanks for stopping by.
I'm actually doing this post on behalf of a young lady. The parents are having accommodation challenge. She has bought A land measuring 200 by 100 a while ago. The Dad is down with stroke.
Presently landlord is on their neck and rent is due. She has about 500k savings.
She approached me for advice but I can't give her so I'm running to the guru's in the house. The problem is, can her 500k put up a one bedroom apartment devoid of any luxury? Just blocks, ordinary zinc and wooden Windows?. No plastering, painting or tiles. Just the bare basics
The mum said she is OK with any type of structure- bedsitter(studio apartment), zinc structure, plank house etc.. just any kind of structure..
Pls help this hardworking young lady.
The family resides in warri
Thank you
