An excellent write up sir but I must challenge you on this paragraph.

Western region started at Mushin and Jibowu, both of which are much further outwards, from a Western region point of view, than the Ikeja and Maryland you stated.

Of course, foolish Obidients don't think Epe, Badagry and Ikorodu people are "real" Lagosians and shouldn't be allowed to be part of it's governance.

In case you don't why we say Edo is not Lagos, it is because Edo people are independent minded. Nobody desides the destiny of the Edo people. They know what is good for them and they go for it.
In Edo state, there is nothing like Baba Sope.
Everybody in Edo is independent minded.
Edo people are not zombies who will always queue up to lick the butt of one old druggie.
Oshiomhole has been trying for years to be the sole proprietor of Edo state and he has always been defeated.
So Edo is not Lagos and can never be Lagos.

And of course all this has restored the most powerful 18th and 19th century Kingdom of Benin to its place of preeminence.

If we are looking af Lagos Island (Isale Eko), or the totality of Lagos (Eko) with appendages like Obalende, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Apapa, Oyingbo, Ebute Metta, etc, then even the Yoruba slave returnees from outside Africa or camped in Sierra Leone, still met native Yorubas with native names.

So those returnees are only a discussion as later citizens of the parts of Lagos that they settled in.

It would be wrong to think an English, Portuguese or Spanish surname confer any originality to Lagos origin of the bearer. Rather it confirms their status as later indigenes of Lagos(Eko), behind the originality of the Awori native indigenes and the aristocratic Benin-Yoruba ruling class of Lagos (Eko).

The broader Lagos State as you rightly said, was part of Western region, and dominated by Ijebu, same Awori, Egba, and the non-Yoruba Egun tribe.

The Yoruba subgroups in Lagos State plus the non-Yoruba Egun, are the very same tribal constituent of Ogun state.

Awori, Ijebu, Egba, Egun.

Only Egbado (Yewa) is native to Ogun State and not native to Lagos State. But I won't count it out too.

Thank you

Among the four none is Lagosian. Migrants ruling their host.

You mean none comes from Lagos Island?

What many do not know is that the so-called owners of Lagos are the returned slaves. However many of these people were not captured and slave traded from Lagos and are not Indigenous to Lagos. Let me give you one example.

You cannot be more Lagosian than the McGregor family. However, one of this family's members is now a first-class Oba in Ilawo in Ogun state. What happened? He traced his ancestry back to where his ancestors lived before being captured and given anglicized names. Another example is Sarah Forbes Bonetta, who was presented to Queen Victoria after her capture and eventually adopted as her Goddaughter. But her maiden name before capture was Aina and she was originally from Egbado and not Lagos.

The indigenous dwellers of Lagos are the Aworis.

Finally, Lagos state itself was created by adding parts of the Western region including Ikeja, Maryland, etc to the former Lagos Colony. So the idea that Yorubas must be islanders to be indigenous is incorrect.

The National Archives are there for anyone who wants to do a deeper analysis of the subject. Looking through the records it can be seen that the number of Yorubas who can claim Lagos as indigene is much wider than the returnee slaves who it must be said are also entitled to claim Lagos ( even if not originally from there) by reason of Yoruba antiquity.

Exactly what a wise man said when he condemned the invention of the motor car. " Have we taken enough care of our horses" he exclaimed. " why waste money on metal cr*p when we can build up a healthy stock of horses nationwide"? "For hundreds nay thousands of years our ancestors have achieved so much with horses."

Some wise people clapped for him while the senseless ones sighed and rolled their eyes.

The so-called Western region part of Lagos ended in 1967,it only existed from 1960- 1967, just six years, it doesn't count

All regions including the the Western region existed from after the amalgamation of 1914. The British ran a regional government of North, East and Western Nigeria. The Western region gained self government in 1957.

History is history and history does not become history due to longevity. The fact is Lagos is part of the south West of Nigeria. This fact is sealed by Lagos being part of Odua investment group as well as DAWN ( The development authority for Western Nigeria)

The yoruba nature of Lagos is also enshrined in the fact that the earliest founders of Lagos were the Awori's. Benin kingdom temporarily conquered part of Eko and levied taxes. But the Oba and rulership soon reverted to the original yoruba's and has existed as such to this day.

Interestingly enough the Obas of Lagos did not include any of the returnee slaves who are being used by some to claim a divided Lagos. And the rule of yoruba obas pre dates the beginning and the end if slavery - so the idea of returnee rulership rights over lagos is a historical nonsense.

You need to go to the National Archives. If you cannot get to ibadan, use the online version

Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, Ambode et al are all migrant Yorubas; claiming where doesn't belong to them...

We the real Lagosians have had enough!

I think we need to set this straight because there is a lot of confusion.

The area claimed by the Lagos indigenes is LAGOS COLONY or EKO which is the Lagos island excluding VI, Ikoyi, Lekki etc. Danfo drivers still call out Eko as a destination within Lagos.

The areas such as Epe, Ikeja and Mushin, Yaba etc were later expropriated by the Federal Government from the old Western Region and then combined into the new Lagos state. The indigenes of the island are not the indigenes of the expanded and largerLagos.

If the indigenes of Eko want an area to control, they should be asking for Lagos Island Council mayor not governor.

I have also attached the population constituents of Lagos in 1891.

This is the definitive position on the matter.

Politics / Re: Nigerians Are Silent With Petrol At 897 by BreconHills(m): 6:54am On Sep 05
Baxilexi:
There’s something I can’t wrap my head around, perhaps someone could enlighten me on here.

The value of any commodity isn’t in its intrinsic value but in what we ascribe to it, eg art, rocks (diamonds, emeralds, sapphire etc). If commodities were to be truly valued based off their importance water would be the most expensive commodity in the world.

To my conundrum, if an ear of corn in the US and Europe is priced at 0.50$ = 800 NGN, and we also produce corn. Does it mean we must sell corn in Nigerian at 800 NGN for price parity? My village must buy corn at the rate it’s sold in the US when their purchasing power is far lesser. And while the government can simply do a crude for petrol swap, it claims to also pay subsidy, how? Why not just earn less for the time being than allow your people wallow in despair? Someone put up a one price law, isn’t there a caveat to that?

We produce crude oil in commercial quantities, what would be the crime if we valued the amount for local consumption at a lower price and the exported quantity at international level. At the end of the day a government is to serve its people not the international market.

I need answers for this, because if I was a corn farmer, I don’t see the sense trading it at a rate far beyond the reach of my villagers, leave them starving, and then export it, make money and tell them our bank account is growing. This goes against the needs and wants economic principles.

The companies that drill and extract crude use foreign oil rigs. To the best of my knowledge, there are very few countries (and none in Africa) that manufacture their own oil rigs. Rental fee's for the rig and associated technology is denominated in dollars. If your currency is doing well against the USD - no problem.

Secondly, when you sell your oil cheaper than others, the data tells us that you get fuel queues and product unavailability - as tanker drivers divert consignments to neighboring countries. This is simply Economics 101

The answer is we have to suck it up. The era of cheap energy is over all over the world. The immediate solution is better public transport and rail-based freighting. A car (or two or three) is not a human right and efficient transport can lower the cost of product to market.

We have been kicking this can down the road for far too long—from the late 1970s and early 1980s, in fact. Entire industries and stupendous wealth that goes to a privileged few have been created around pricing anomalies. This wealth creates the illusion that Nigeria is a rich country when it is not. It's now or never. Otherwise, the last person leaving Nigeria should remember to put off the light!

What should we do.

Dangote refinery can't sell to us below what it costs it to produce the petrol.

NNPC claims they are owing over $6 billion due in part to subsidy payments. Yet you want them to continue to pay subsidy so petrol price can be low.

If the country can no longer afford to pay subsidy, we need to face the reality that with the exception of the Arab nations, petrol is an expensive product in almost every country in the world.

In Niger Republic, Ghana and many other neighbouring countries, petrol sells for around N1300.

It is unrealistic to think petrol cam continue to sell for N600 here.

If we have to pay between N850 - N900 for Mr Dangote's petrol, we just have to manage it.

I wish I could like this a million times. Well said.

Of course the name Air Peace will go and the hostess uniforms will change. Naming rights for each aircraft will be reserved for the FGN.

Do you honestly believe that an entrepreneur who set up his airline from scratch will be jumping for joy at these changes simply because he wants to land at Heathrow when he can simply sign an interliner agreement with the new Nigeria Airways and achieve same effect. After all Virgin and BA have two airports in Nigeria.

The solution is very simple.

Sell the crude in Naira at a subsidized rate to local refinery.

Increase export tax on petroleum product. Via land sea and air. The subsidy sum will be removed from all export produce.

Anyone can export PMS but they will pay higher tax by way of removing the subsidy.

Dangote and marketer's can sign agreement to pay heavy tax on petroleum product because government is subsidizing the crude.

And who will buy your now expensive crude on the international market when Russia is selling at a discount?

With respect, it is a crude joke to mention CIA and NIA in the same post. The comparison is laughable, crude and insulting to the sensibilities of discerning and knowledgeable people.

In the grand sense of agencies such as the CIA and MOSSAD, Nigeria does not really need an NIA. And even if we do, its role would be incredibly limited, and its budget, operational funds, even more so.

We do not have any foreign enemies/threats significant enough to warrant a CIA-like behemoth. We do not have any semblance of international/imperialist clout to seek to monitor what other countries/ and cross border non state actors are doing or planning. We certainly don't have the competence and capacity to even run a proper intelligence agency.

Is it the typical corrupt fools who are all about earning ridiculous salaries and allowances and looting 'free' government money that would do the foreign intelligence work? This whole thing and this nonsense country is a joke. What is NIA doing with $43m cash stashed in a so-called safe house, yet they could not get Intel and even prevent a coup in next door Niger? Why couldn't the NIA detect the Boko Haram/ISWAP build up in the Lake Chad region? This country is a farce.

First off the NIA does not conduct domestic operations.

Secondly the money found in its stash is normative for a clandestine service. The CIA has numerous safe houses and secure drop points containing millions of dollars as well as passports.

I do not think that you know enough about the service to reach the conclusions you have, In spite of most of your piece being innuendos.
