Latest reports claim that Liverpool has agreed on Luis Suarez's transfer to Barcelona FC for £63million. Metro reports with reference to the local Catalan TV station TV3 that the offer which was made by the Spanish club Friday morning, has been accepted following the further negotiations. Sketchy information had been provided earlier regarding the sum of the deal. Some sources claimed that Barca's offer was £80million. Meanwhile Metro states that Liverpool rejected Barca's opening £55.7million bid made this week, demanding a bigger amount. The Reds used to say they would not sell the footballer for less than £75million, but the sum apparently decreased as Suarez made it clear he did not wish to stay at Anfield any longer. However now, as the deal has been finally agreed on, Suarez is expected to travel to Spain for a medical, with a five-year contract being offered. It would be recalled that the Uruguayan player was banned by FIFA for 4 months and nine gamesover biting his Italian counterpart, Roberto Chiellini, during the 2014 World Cup game. This "biting story" has become one of the most scandalous moments of the ongoing Mundial.http://www.breezyworld.tk/forum/showtopic.php?id=577 |
The Nigeria sports minister has suppressed fears that the world football governing body would clamp down on the country following the sack of the NFF board Nigeria sports minister and chairman of the National Sports Commission Tammy Danagogo has dismissed fears that Fifa will punish Nigeria following the NFF congress impeachment of Aminu Maigari led board. According to him, Fifa’s laws and statutes haave not been violated and the National Sports Commission has never interfered in the affairs of football in the country stating the extra ordinary congress was held in the best interest of Nigerian football. “If you recall I returned from Brazil to meet a letter from NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) with Musa Amadu informing me of a court order against the present leadership of the NFF,” Danagogo told newsmen in Abuja. “All of us are law abiding citizens and I had to allow the law to follow its course. So that is just it. I will not play any role in what is happening. “We will try as much as possible as a government to allow the development of our various sports in a professional manner,” he continued. “The professionals are discussing and I will only wish them well and hope that whatever they are doing and whatever decision they are taking should be in the best interest of the game and in the best interest of our country. “Nigeria is a country where you have a big chunk of our population as sports lover. I am aware of the Fifa letter but the reality is that there is no interference and we will do our best to let Fifa know that there is no government interference and that the government does not intend to interfere and I can assure you I will not interfere beyond doing what is needful statutorily even by fifa rules beyond ensuring that there is a peaceful atmosphere,” he explained. “A government has a primary responsibility of maintaining peace and order. If a court gives an order and two persons are fighting it is the duty of the executive to say stop fighting, obey the law and pursue your case. “ What we are doing as government now is to tell both sides I mean the parties to this dispute is to say relax go before the court, go before Fifa and settle your matter. “My Ministry is not interested in unduly interference in any sports not in only in football. We will not interfere in any sports because we want the best professionals to handle these games. “ So what we are doing as a government is to say please both sides you are all Nigerians, you are all stakeholders, maintain your calm, maintain peace and law and order,” he concluded. http://www.breezyworld.tk/forum/showtopic.php?id=576 |
Senator Hope Ozodinma (PDP, Imo), has explained that the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja was shut to allow for maintenance of the runway. Uzodinma, who is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, said this while fielding questions from State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan. According to him, the airport, which will be closed from midnight on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Monday, is to allow construction giant, Julius Berger, fix the pot holes noticed on the runway. “This was done for obvious safety reasons. We have some potholes that are already seen as serious hazards. And don’t forget that is the only runway that lands our President, all the VIPs, all the investors that come into this country”, he said. He also said the closure will allow for a technical audit by the Federal Aviation Authority, FAA, in keeping with international regulations. The senator, however, faulted the public outcry over the closure of the airport, saying it was not peculiar to Nigeria. “Well, all over the world, they know that we have one runway in Abuja. The next thing anybody can do is to look for the nearest airport close to Abuja either Kaduna or Minna and then chose whether it will make a better business sense to land there or not to fly at all. “And whatever may be the case between midnight Saturday and Monday, it’s not something anybody can cry about. All over the world, airports and runways are usually closed whenever there are obvious maintenance programmes that bother on safety. So, our own should not be an exception”, he said. Senator Uzodinma said there will be no national carrier as government could no longer run businesses meant for the private sector. “For us to have a national Carrier, it is an airline that government must own 100 percent and I doubt whether the government has the managerial and technical capability to begin to float an airline in an economy that is being privatized. Rather, it can copy from the United States, France, Britain where they have national flag carrier. “In this situation, what happens is that private people will own the airline and government will continue to support and then they will carry our flag. It is important to see an airline that is carrying our flag”, he said. @http://www.breezyworld.tk/forum/showtopic.php?id=574 |
Uruguayan President Jose Mujica has called FIFA "a bunch of old sons of bitches" in the latest outraged response in his country to the ban imposed last week on Luis Suarez for biting. Liverpool striker Suarez has suspended by FIFA from all football-related activity for four months following his bite on Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 World Cup group win over Italy, in addition to being banned from playing in his national team's next nine fixtures. The Uruguayan FA is appealing the decision. With Suarez already back home in Uruguay, his side were eliminated from the tournament following a 2-0 defeat to Colombia on Saturday. At the reception to mark the rest of the squad's return to their home country, Mujica -- a widely popular figure due to his usually common sense approach and humble lifestyle -- was asked by a reporter for his thoughts on world football's governing body. Video of the incident shows the former guerrilla fighter turned politician saying "FIFA are just a bunch of old sons of bitches," before putting his hand over his mouth, apparently pretending to be shocked at what he has just said. When the journalist asks if he can publish the quotes, Mujica replied: "Yes, publish." Later in the short video he returns to add: "They could have punished [Suarez], but not given him this fascist ban." Both Uruguay's coach Oscar Tabarez and captain Diego Lugano have also been hugely critical of FIFA's handling of the incident, saying the punishment is much too harsh and making allegations of bias against Suarez and Uruguay in general. The 27-year-old, who has twice been banned for similar biting incidents before in his career, claimed in a defence to FIFA that the incident has been completely misunderstood -- maintaining implausibly that he actually just lost his balance and collided accidentally with Chiellini's shoulder. @ http://www.breezyworld.tk/forum/showtopic.php?id=558 |
