It's like some of y'all can't read again "Biafra agitators or criminals? Some residents of the community said the hoodlums initially terrorising the community were not members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) or any other pro-Biafra group but criminals hiding under the cloak of Biafra agitation in the region." |

Babalola0920:There was absolutely nothing true about Zionism inciting in Israel at that time. Zionism was extremely unpopular until after the Hebron massacre which the Jews had enough and started forming their own military groups. Which obviously led to the Jewish insurgency in mandatory Palestine. So you're defending it just because it's happening today while Zionism wasn't even popular then |

Politics / Boko Haram Sponsors Have Links With Nigerian Military, Army General by Brek: 9:32pm On Jan 22 |
General Ali-Keffi, who was forced out of the army for exposing his colleagues' involvement with terror financing, disclosed this in a letter to President Bola Tinubu, which also detailed his arrest, detention and compulsory retirement. Former General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Ali-Keffi, has revealed that terrorism financing, procurement and movement of arms and ammunition for Boko Haram and other criminal elements have links to the military. General Ali-Keffi, who was forced out of the army for exposing his colleagues' involvement with terror financing, disclosed this in a letter to President Bola Tinubu, which also detailed his arrest, detention and compulsory retirement."The most worrisome aspect was that some of the individuals involved in terrorism financing of Boko Haram terrorists and who were also involved in procurement and movement of arms and ammunition for Boko Haram and other criminal organisations had links with the military," he stated. Ali-Keffi, who headed Operation Service Wide (OPS) set up by former President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate those involved in terrorism financing, said his arrest, detention and compulsory retirement followed the report of his team which exposed the involvement of senior government officials, a top banker and top military brass in terrorism financing. Ali-Keffi in the letter published by ThisDay, revealed that he headed a presidential investigative taskforce, instituted Board of Inquiry (BOI) convened by Major General BM Monguno (rtd), the former National Security Adviser (NSA), which sat in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for five weeks from early January to late February 2020.“I was the President of the BOI with members/secretary drawn from the NCS, NIS, DSS, NIA, ONSA, NFIU as well as from the Board of Inquiry, which largely conducted its work as an investigative body tasked to investigate circumstances surrounding the illegal smuggling of petroleum products contained in 168 oil tankers into Benin Republic through a single smuggling route in Ilesa Barbara in Kwara State,” he said. He said the BoI went further "to uncover 295 oil tankers that conveyed Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and the major smugglers identified”. The petition stated that the BoI made a significant discovery regarding the relationship between the smuggling racket, the terrorism besetting the North-east, and the banditry/kidnapping for ransom which was at its formative stage in the North-west and parts of North-Central geo-political zones. This, he claimed, included the illegal mining of minerals in the North-west and North-central and large-scale laundering of mostly funds meant for counterterrorism/ insurgency operations that were ongoing mostly in the Northern regions of the country.“A syndicate which had extensive network in the country as well as being affiliated to international criminal network was as the center of moving finances for terrorism for other criminal activities stated above," he said. He added, “It was thus apparent that terrorism and insurgency in the North-east, North-west and North-central were a criminal enterprise and were largely undertaken with profit rather than any ideology, as the primary motive. “Thus, we, at the BoI arrived at the obvious conclusion that progress cannot be achieved except the financiers, collaborators, supporters and the leadership of the terrorists and insurgents groups are identified and the network dismantled,” he said. The petitioner said recommendations on the findings were made and submitted to the presidency but were swept under the carpet because of the powerful individuals involved. The petition said the operation successfully infiltrated the leadership of terror groups in the North-East, which culminated in their decimation, adding that key terrorism financiers were linked to the individuals convicted for terror financing in UAE. The petitioner noted that trouble started when the task force became “victims of unfair attacks” including starvation of funding for its operations. “This substantiates the argument that some powerful persons in and outside government as well as from the military were uncomfortable with the task force and specifically my humble self as commander,” he said. The petitioner said the death of Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, under whose tenure he served as GOC, dealt a blow to the task force as the new army chief, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, removed him as GOC 1 Mechanised Division, Kaduna. He noted that subsequently, the presidency, the AGF became “less helpful”. According to him, the entire episode culminated in his arrest and detention for 64 days in solitary confinement, where he slept on the floor with consequent health implications. He lamented that the most painful part of his experience was that President Buhari, who approved his headship of the task force did not come to his rescue. Begging President Tinubu for his intervention on the matter, he said “kindly cause an investigation into the circumstances surrounding my arrest, detention, maltreatment and compulsory retirement from the Nigerian Army." He also sought a review of his compulsory retirement from the army and that it should be commuted to voluntary retirement as well as approved compensation for the expenditure incurred by the task force in hiring vehicles and quarters. This should include compensation for the pains and injuries suffered while incarcerated and approval of personal security, he said. |

Culture / Aku(igbos) War Of Independence Against The Igalas by Brek: 1:49pm On Jan 13 |
Re posting it since the first got taken down According to Dr. Afigbo, the Igala kingdom probably became the dominant power in the Anambra Valley and Nsukka in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Aku was the most southerly of the towns where the Igalas built forts. It is to be expected that from Aku, the Igalas foraged into other towns, and villages surrounding Aku for slaves and tributes. Aku must have been a sort of collecting centre or capital for the southern areas under Igala rule. Igala rule must have been established in Aku at a later date than other areas in Nsukka. It then follows that the Igalas must have lost hold of Aku earlier than other areas, it being the, farthest from the centre of power at IdahAku tradition has it that Diewa was an Igala Officer sent to rule Aku by the Attah of Igala. That is why Aku is called Aku Diewa. It was pointed out above that Nsukka is called Nsukka Asadu because Asadu ruled over her. On the other hand, although Nkpologu was under Asabero, she answered Nkpologu Attah because Nkpologu claims direct descent from the Attah. Umu-Ezike, a village in Aku answers Umu-Ezike Attah because their great grandfather, Ezike, came from Igala. Thus Nkpologu and Umu-Ezike claim to have blood relationship. Aku people did not accept the rule of the Igalas and fought relentlessly against it until Diewa defected from the Attah, married an Aku woman and lived in Aku until his death. He has three sons and many daughters. His descendants form the bulk of Ohemje village. Diewa is worshipped as one of the heroes in Aku History. It would appear that after the defection of Diewa, the bulk of the Igala occupation force remained loyal to the Attah and continued to live in the forts on the two hills. Aku elders remember two dramatic incidents in connection with Igala occupation. Both incidents concerned the tail end of their stay in Aku.During their struggle against the Igalas, Aku people succeeded in cutting off their line of communication with Idah. They then surrounded the forts and made sure that no more food was sent to the Igala soldiers. One day, during the Ama Oshigo feast, the area allotted to Oshigo people to guard was deserted because the young men from Oshigo could not bear to stay away from the feast, especially as the noise of drumming, singing, and dancing wafted up towards them from the valley below and as the gods would be against them if they fought during their Ama feast. They quietly stole down the hill to their village. Igala soldiers observed their movement and carefully trailed them, armed to the teeth. While the people of Uwani Ezike in Oshigo were eating and drinking, they were suddenly attacked. Everybody, men, women and children of Uwani-Ezike was killed except a baby of a few days old. This baby, Ezukwugwu Ocha survived because just before its mother was killed, she had succeeded in hiding it among some leaves in the forest nearby. A relative from Ugwunani picked the child up, cared for him and he survived to become the father of many sons and great grandfather of the present Uwani-Ezike.Igala soldiers then carried to their fort whatever they could lay their hands on – water, food and wine. Before the news of what happened had got to other Aku people, Igala soldiers had once again taken refuge in their fortified city. It was clear to them they could not last indefinitely, so one dark night, they decided to leave finally. When they reached a lake at Odoko in Nua, they were attacked by Aku people. In trying to escape, many of them perished in the lake. The name of the lake was immediately changed to Omeru Igala, (The destroyer of Igala). No lake now exists there but the place is still called Omeru Igala. The now greatly depleted force retreated to the fort, and from there moved down the hill to Nkponkpo and through Uwelu Amabokwu to Amogbo. At Amogbo, Aku troops once again attacked them. The writer has not succeeded in getting any details about this engagement. What is important is that the battle at Amogbo marked the end of Igala occupation of Aku. No one has an idea how long the occupation lasted. In the opinion of the writer, it must have been short-lived because it brought little or no changes in Aku political, and cultural systems. Dr. Afigbo, in the paper already referred to, was of the opinion that the principal aim for Igala penetration of the Anambra and Nsukka areas was to obtain slaves, in which case the type of relationship conducive to cultural borrowing from the conquerors would hardly exist. The writer is not aware of any single Aku custom or way of life that could be traced back to the Igalas. The only Igala name that survives in Aku is the word Attah. https://akudiewa.org/site/index.php/a-short-political-history-of-aku-before-the-establishment-of-british-rule/ |

Politics / Some Countries Encouraging Ekpa To Destabilise Nigeria, Says CDS by Brek: 10:24am On Dec 16, 2023 |
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, said on Friday that the military was gaining nothing from the fight against insecurity in many parts of the country. According to him, the military daily loses troops in the ongoing fight against insecurity across the federation, adding that he has nightmares. Musa spoke during the maiden parley with journalists in Abuja on Friday. The CDS cautioned the citizens against demoralising the troops from effectively discharging their constitutional duties with their actions. He alleged that some individuals and countries were sponsoring Simon Ekpa to destabilise the country. He urged them to desist from such act, adding that the military would not relax in its effort to ensure that peace returned to the South-East. Musa said, “On the issue of Nnamdi Kanu, there are people that have continued to sponsor these people by contributing money. And you can see that they are not only killing people outside, they are also killing their people.“So, you are funding to somebody who is also killing you. So, our appeal is that people should stop supporting them, and expose all those doing those things, especially people like Simon Ekpa. “He is sitting down there in comfort. Some countries are encouraging him to do what he is doing to Nigeria, and we are here supporting him. So, people must desist. We must call what is wrong, wrong. But I know that we are making efforts to ensure that we secure the whole of South-East and we will continue to do that.” On the accidental bombing in Kaduna, the CDS promised that any personnel found culpable would be punished. The CDS noted that the solution to the ravaging insecurity in the country was good governance, adding that the military solution currently being in use would solve 30 per cent of the problem. He said, “Military solution is only 30 per cent, 70 per cent is good governance, equity, fairness and justice. Anywhere you apply this, you will see that you have a good community.” Musa said porous borders and unmanned forests had contributed to the challenges faced by the military. He said, “If you go to Chad, Cameroon and Niger, once you come as a foreigner, they know because they have a database; they can identify you. And then there’s this security awareness within the public, which we lack. https://punchng.com/some-countries-encouraging-ekpa-to-destabilise-nigeria-says-cds/?amp |
Politics / BREAKING: Nigerian Army Orders Soldiers To ‘deal Decisively’ With IPOB, ESN Thre by Brek: 9:09am On Dec 16, 2023 |
The Nigerian Army has directed soldiers to “deal decisively” with any threat from the Indigenous People of Biafra and its militant wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN).It directed soldiers to ensure non-compliance with the five-day sit-at-home order declared in southeast Nigeria by Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained IPOB leader. Ekpa on Sunday declared a five-day sit-at-home in the region over the continued detention of Kanu.According to him, the said sit-at-home would commence on December 15 and end on December 19, 2023. He noted that the civil disobedience was to demand the immediate release of Kanu and call for a referendum on independence for Biafra. Ekpa added that the sit-at-home is necessary to end the militarisation of the southeast region. He, therefore, called on residents, traders, market women, and companies to adhere strictly to the directive. However, in a military signal exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, the army directed its personnel to “deal decisively” with any threat from IPOB and ESN to ensure non-compliance with Ekpa’s order.“THE NEED FOR AGGRESSIVE JT PTL DURING THE PROPOSED SIT-AT-HOME ORDER ON 15 DEC 23 IN THE SE REGION. EYE AM DIR TO CONVEY TO COMDS AND COs THAT IPOB/ESN HAVE PROPOSED 15 DEC 23 AS SIT-AT-HOME DAY. CONSEQUENTLY,” the signal dated December 14 and signed by Brigadier General A. Wende read. “FMNS/UNITS ARE REQ TO CONDUCT ABOVE MENTIONED SUBJ WITHIN AOR TO DEAL DECISIVELY WITH ANY THREAT FROM IPOB/ESN IN ORDER TO ENSURE NON COMPLIANCE OF THE SIT-AT-HOME ORDER. PSE ACK///” Ekpa rose to prominence in July 2021, after he was announced as the lead broadcaster of Radio Biafra. But shortly after his appointment, IPOB announced his disengagement because he refused to sign the rules of engagement regarding the operations of the radio station. However, the Finland-based Nigerian has repeatedly pledged allegiance to Kanu and support for Biafra agitation, despite leading a faction of the IPOB called “Autopilots”. He recently declared himself as the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE). |
