One of the first questions people ask before entering the cooking gas business is simple: “How much money do I actually need to start?” The answers online can be confusing. Some people say you can start with a few hundred thousand naira, while others mention tens of millions. The truth is that the capital depends on the type of gas refilling business you want to run and how properly you want to set it up. In Nigeria today, cooking gas demand is rising fast. More households are moving away from charcoal and kerosene because LPG cooks faster and produces less smoke. This growing demand has made gas refilling a profitable opportunity, but it also means regulators now enforce stricter safety standards. Because of this, startup cost is no longer just about buying gas - it involves structure, licensing, and safety compliance. For someone starting small, a skid-based or mini refilling outlet is usually the entry point. This type of setup uses a compact storage system instead of large underground tanks. Depending on location and equipment quality, investors typically spend between several million naira to get fully operational. A large part of this cost goes into approved equipment, installation, and regulatory approvals rather than the gas itself. A standard gas plant requires land development, storage tanks, piping systems, safety installations, and professional engineering work. Many new investors are surprised to discover that construction and licensing alone can take a significant portion of the budget before the first kilogram of gas is sold. Another cost people often forget is working capital. After building the plant, you still need money to purchase your first gas supply, pay staff salaries, handle transportation, and manage daily operations until customer flow becomes steady. Without this reserve, some businesses struggle...to continue reading 👇(kindly share) https://www.naijalpg.com.ng/2026/02/how-much-capital-do-you-really-need-to.html

The cooking gas business is no longer a small roadside trade in Nigeria. Over the past few years, more families have moved away from kerosene and firewood to LPG because it is cleaner, faster, and safer when handled properly. This growing demand has made gas refilling one of the most attractive small and medium-scale businesses today. But many people rush into the business thinking it only requires buying cylinders and selling gas. The truth is different. A gas refilling business is highly regulated, and success depends on proper planning, safety compliance, and understanding how the industry works. Before investing your money, here are the real requirements you should understand. First off is starting with the right location. This is one of the most important decisions. Gas refilling is not allowed just anywhere. Authorities require enough open space, good ventilation, and safe distance from residential buildings, schools, and busy public areas. This is why most successful gas plants are located along major roads or developing neighborhoods where expansion is possible. Choosing the wrong location can delay approval for months or even lead to rejection. Another major requirement is government approval. In Nigeria, the gas sector is supervised by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). Before opening your station, inspectors must confirm that your setup meets safety standards. This process involves site inspection, safety design approval, and operational licensing. Many beginners underestimate this stage, but it is what separates a legal gas plant from an unsafe operation. We have 3 stages basically. The site Suitability Approval ATC (Approval to construct) LTO (Licence to Operate). 1. Site Suitability Approval (SSA) This is the first stage. DPR/NMDPRA inspects the location you want to use and confirms: The land is safe for LPG operations > Proper distance from schools, markets, filling stations, and residential areas > Road access is good for LPG trucks > Environmental considerations are met If the site is approved, they issue you a Site Suitability Approval (SSA). 2. Approval to Construct (ATC) Once the site is approved, the next step is applying for permission to build the plant. Here, you submit: a. Engineering drawings b. Process flow diagrams c. Fire & safety plan d. Environmental Impact Assessment (where required) e. Storage tank specifications f. Plant layout DPR/NMDPRA reviews everything to be sure construction will meet safety standards. You get an Approval to Construct (ATC) if everything is correct. 3. Licence to Operate (LTO) This is the final stage. After construction is completed, DPR/NMDPRA will: > Inspect the plant > Check safety equipment > Test the tanks and fittings > Verify fire extinguishers, gas detectors, water system > Check staff training certificates If the plant meets requirements, they issue the Licence to Operate (LTO). Once you have this, you can officially start operating your LPG plant. Before you even apply for your site Suitability approval, of course your business should be registered. You need your certificate of incooperation, you need your article of memorandum, tax Clarence certificate. With the certificate, then you apply for your site Suitability. Now before you buy that land, make sure you apply for site Suitability, you invite the dpr, to check if the land is suitable for construction or not. The mistake client often make is, they will buy the land, then invite dpr for site Suitability. DPR will come there, and tell you - that is if you haven't done the due diligence of course, they can tell you the land is not suitable for construction. Let’s not overhype it. Some people are cashing out quietly from cooking gas business in Nigeria. Some are regretting ever entering. So the business itself is not the issue. How people enter is the issue. Cooking gas business in Nigeria is not dead. But in today’s Nigeria, this business is not for everybody. Some people are making steady money. Some are struggling badly. So the big question is: Is cooking gas business still worth it, or is it a bad investment? This is where many people get confused. From one-room self-contain to big restaurants, people buy gas daily. Even when price goes up, people complain but still buy. However, startup cost is higher now. Tanks, pumps, meters, and safety items are more expensive. Dollar rate and steel prices have affected everything. You can’t start cheap like before. Also, competition has increased. Gas plants are everywhere now - such as estates, roadside, and new layouts. If your location is wrong, customers will pass you. The truth Nigerians don’t like to admit is, cooking gas is not luxury as people usually puts it (although I understand that prices have increased outrageously through past years). For a fact, cooking gas is not seasonal. People don’t stop cooking because price is high. But that doesn’t mean every gas business makes money. That’s the part many people ignore. Where the Money Really Is (And Where It Is Not) Here is where it makes sense, that is if you want it to - cooking gas business works well when: 1. You are close to where people live 2. Customers can access you easily. Avoid closed areas, bad roads, and unsafe locations. 3. You refill correct and accurate amount purchased by customers - no cheating. That means, you dispenser pump is not altered to short sell. Cooking gas business is all about trust. If customers trust your refill/meter, irrespective of the price, they will still patronize you. 4. You don’t stress people with pricing. If you overprice, be sure that customers will buy from gas plants with #50 naira difference, after confirming from 2 or 3 more gas plants for recent prices. Yes, number 3 tips above can save you, but some customers are quite money conscious. 5. Estate gas shops, busy neighborhoods, and tenant-heavy areas still move gas daily. Now that I have explained how you can make it right going into LPG cooking gas business, next is how and why people fail in the business or struggle. Cooking gas business fails and struggles when: 1. Location is hidden or far 2. Too many gas shops or gas plants are already there 3. Supply is not steady 4. Safety issues scare customers away 5. Once customers lose trust, they don’t come back. The Question Is Not “Is It Profitable?” The real question is: Can you sell gas every single day? If you can sell daily, you’ll survive price changes. If you can’t, profit figures won’t save you. Harmattan season in Nigeria comes with cold mornings, dusty winds, and very dry air. While many households enjoy the cooler weather, this period also records a high number of fire outbreaks, especially in homes that use LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) for cooking. From Lagos to Abuja, Ibadan to Onitsha, many reported kitchen fires during harmattan are linked to gas leaks, poor ventilation, and old cooking equipment. Sadly, most of these incidents are preventable. Many fire incidents during harmattan are not caused by witchcraft or “bad luck.” They often happen because of small mistakes, poor maintenance, or lack of safety awareness when using cooking gas. 4 Major Risks to Watch Out For During Harmattan Small Gas Leak Turns Into a Major Fire A family notices a mild gas smell in the kitchen but ignores it, thinking it is “nothing serious.” Because the windows are closed due to cold weather, gas builds up in the room. Once the stove is lit, boom - a sudden fire outbreak occurs. This is very common during harmattan. Old or Damaged Gas Hose Many homes use the same gas hose for years without replacement. During harmattan, the cold and dry air can make old rubber hoses crack. A tiny crack leaks gas slowly. When cooking starts, the leaked gas catches fire. Cooking Indoors Without Ventilation To avoid cold air, some people: > Close all windows and doors > Cook in small, enclosed kitchens If gas leaks in such spaces, there is nowhere for it to escape, making fire outbreaks more likely. Improper Cylinder Storage Some people keep gas cylinders near heat sources, or inside small kitchens. While others under direct sunlight during the day. This is very wrong, as heat increases pressure inside the cylinder, which can lead to leaks or explosions. (Source): https://www.naijalpg.com.ng/2026/01/fire-outbreak-risks-of-using-lpg.html

Thanks for your response. Truly appreciated. I just recently came across other former Jehovah's witnesses on quora. Terrible experiences. Just imagine, most of their doctrines are from 4 white individuals from New York - The so called Government Body. I wasn't baptized. I was into the step to baptism....I got ill, then my life flashes in front of me....I noticed how I could have missed a lot not living life....not doing way I needed to do.... enough impact. I was in chapter 24 of Enjoy Life, lol. I thank God for the experience. I learned a lot for strange secrets that I can't mention here. That religion is one hell of a mental trap...not to talk of their weird arrangement marriages....most of their couples don't look happy together. I know of one that fights secretly with each other but laugh publicly. The wives seems to be in control of the husbands. Women are not meet to do any work of preaching. Bebtel is like paradise for them.... conventions is like Christmas Courz: |
Worst decision I made this year was joining Jehovah Witnesses. I'm not saying they are not good people ooooo, but kinda of a strange way of life. I started going this year February, still yet I don't feel belong. Those people that claim love and support in Jehovah witness are just overreacting. Nothing like that. They hardly relate with each other. I noticed their support are limited to those baptized in the congregation. Their lives are like just there. Nothing exciting more like sadist. I decided to give church a chance this year, but mistakenly choose Jehovah Witnesses. If I have choosing other praise and worship church, I know things would have been different. I look are the earliers children, and I know they ain't happy doing that house to house stuff. Worse decision ever |
If you’re planning to start a cooking gas (LPG) business in Nigeria, one of the first questions to ask is: “How much land do I need to build my gas plant?” The good news is - you don’t need a large space to begin. With the right design and approval, you can start your LPG business on just one plot of land. Minimum Land Size Requirement The minimum land size required to set up a standard LPG plant in Nigeria is one plot (approximately 450–500 square meters). This is usually enough for a mini or 5-ton skid plant, which is the most popular size for startups. If you plan to install a 10-ton capacity plant or add extra storage tanks and parking space, you should consider two plots of land for safety, accessibility, and expansion room. Recommended Land Sizes by Plant Type • Mini 5-ton skid plant: 1 plot (enough space for tank, dispenser, and small office) • 10-ton plant: 2 plots (allows extra safety distance, compressor, and delivery space)...... https://www.naijalpg.com.ng/2025/10/lpg-plant-land-requirement-in-nigeria.html

Starting a gas (LPG) business in Nigeria is now easier than ever, even with small capital. The demand for cooking gas keeps growing as more Nigerians switch from firewood and kerosene to LPG because it is cleaner, faster, and more affordable. Here’s how you can begin with little money: How To Start a Gas Business in Nigeria with Small Capital (And Make Daily Profit) 1. Start Small - Think Smart You don’t need millions to start. Begin as a cylinder refilling agent, roadside reseller, or gas retailer using a 3kg–12.5kg scale. You can start with as low as ₦300,000 to ₦1 million, depending on your location and setup. 2. Choose a Good Location Select a place with high population and low competition, near residential areas, markets, or roadside spots where people cook daily. Accessibility and safety are key. 3. Get the Right Equipment For a small setup, you’ll need: Filling scale (manual or digital) LPG hose and nozzle Cylinders (25kg to 50kg) or better still, you can invest in a 350kg or 1ton complete setup skid with dispenser. Fire extinguisher and safety gear Branding materials (signboard, apron, etc.) 4. Good morning Nigerians....may today brings us good things. So, today post is basically written to break down the costs in simple terms, so you can understand what to expect before starting. Up till now, i still haven't get why some Nigerians refer gas plant to gas station? Lol. I think the idea comes from we gotten to use with referring fuel stations, petrol stations and so and so name we do called it as the same with gas. I have come to understand that when people say the word "gas stations", they typically mean also the standard (big) gas plants - but not actually the mini gas plant or the complete setup skid. More like the Americans referring cooking gas to propane, and fuel, petrol to gas - lol. It is true that starting a cooking gas (LPG) station in Nigeria is a profitable business because of the high demand for gas for domestic and commercial use. However, one of the biggest questions new investors ask is: “How much does it cost to build a standard cooking gas station in Nigeria?” 1. Land Acquisition You need land in a good location, preferably close to residential or commercial areas with easy road access. Prices are higher in cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt compared to smaller towns. I can't say the price for you because that depends on a lot for factors including location proximity and the rest. 2. Regulatory Documents & Approvals To operate legally, you need approvals from different agencies: (Abeg, this is just an estimated....you actually need a professional person that deals with this to help you determine what and what, and also to help you with smooth process of acquiring the licensing and documentation). > DPR/NMDPRA License: ₦500,000 – ₦2 million > Fire Service Certificate: ₦100,000 – ₦300,000 Total for Documents: – 3. Storage Tank Installation A standard gas station requires at least a 10MT (metric tons) LPG storage tank with accessories like pumps, valves, and gauges. The bigger the tank, the higher the cost. The price can cost as much as ₦10 million – ₦25 million. 4. Plant Construction & Setup>>>>> full article link to continue reading 👇 https://www.naijalpg.com.ng/2025/08/how-much-to-build-standard-lpg-gas.html

With petrol and diesel prices soaring, many Nigerians are turning to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for cost savings, not actually for cleaner fuel if you ask me. But just how much does CNG cost today in Nigeria? Official CNG Price Structure, What It Says? The Federal Government, through the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI), has set the official CNG price at ₦230 per kilogram. This pricing policy is aimed at making CNG a cheaper and safer alternative to petrol, especially for commercial transport operators. Market Realities - What People Are Paying Despite the government's ₦230/kg benchmark, actual prices in the field are different widely due to local supply dynamics and infrastructure gaps. Reports from industry analysts estimate the cost of CNG ranges from ₦230 (if you are lucky) to ₦450 per kilogram. There are unverified online discussions mentioning prices as high as ₦400 per kilogram, although these may reflect isolated cases. >>>full link to article👇 https://www.naijalpg.com.ng/2025/08/current-price-of-cng-in-nigeria-per-kg.html?m=1
