PoliticsRe: Why I Love President Muhammadu Buhari by BrownRoofRep: 1:47am On Aug 04, 2018
DanseMacabre:
It's straightforward. In the buildup to the 2015 presidential elections, I vociferously campaigned for Muhammadu Buhari of the APC. I did this not because I really knew him as such, but at least his antecedents were common knowledge, etched into the fabric of Nigeria's history: the then General Muhammadu Buhari was vehemently against corruption, so much so that at the height of his war against corruption he attempted to forcefully extradite Umaru Dikko from London - by trying to smuggle him back to Nigeria in a shipping crate. This deed alone cemented Buhari in my mind as a no-nonsense leader: one deed among others such as his jailing of corrupt politicians when he first took over power, and of course the stories you heard from those who were old enough about his War Against Indiscipline (WAI) campaign - for the first (and perhaps only) time in our history, Nigerians queued for buses, in front of stores, at train stations etc.

Forget that my mom tried to dissuade me from my course by using two main arguments. The first (which I recklessly shoved aside with impatience as the typical angst of a Southern Christian against a Northern Muslim attempting to put a Southern Christian out of office) was that Buhari was an unrepentant religious fundamentalist, and the second (which I'm slowly coming to believe, with the rumours of his government being hijacked by a cabal and the resultant actions speaking for themselves) was that he wasn't really the brains behind the campaign against indiscipline and corruption. That Tunde Idiagbon - Buhari's then deputy - was really the brains behind the policy.

I used this latter argument to reinforce the fact that it indeed appears that Ol' Bubu isn't the one in charge of his government. I do not choose to believe that Buhari is the one making all these horrendous, rule-of-law-defying, legislature-ignoring, anti-people, corruption-glorifying decisions that this government has sadly since become infamous for. the Buhari I know, the much touted anti-corruption messiah would at the very least have suspended Kemi Adeosun as Minister of Finance pending when she clears her name on allegations of certificate forgery. If you notice, I used this as the least example because it is least among the other weighty scandals this administration has been involved in.

To cut this story short, why I have indeed come to love Buhari is that simply, in Nigerian parlance, the guy no just send. I no know if na the ear problem wey dem say dey worry am (in which case if true, might just make this discourse futile), but the guy dey make like say him no dey hear anything wey Nigerians dey talk. His lopsided appointments o, oho! His Chief of Army Staff buy properties wey him entire pension and gratuity no fit afford o, come defend himself say na snake wey him dey sell o, oho! Him service chiefs apparently dey overwhelmed by the spate of insecurity in the country, comot them put new ones o, oho! Him Inspector General of Police deliberately flout him order to go Benue go flush killer herdsmen o, oho! Him Minister of Finance allegedly (with ample proof) forge her NYSC certificate o, oho! Him don spend almost half of him tenure on medical vacation for London when him budget billions for Aso Rock Clinic (wey the First Woman wey dey ze oza room don clear us say no even get basic painkillers) o, oho! Him son wey no get any handwork dey drive super bike wey cost pass hundred million o, oho!

Him know say Nigerians in the long run na cowards wey go just shout, para, rant for social media, all huff and puff, so him dey deliberately shun them.

That's why I love my president.

P.S If by any chance the president has a debilitating ear infection that doesn't allow him hear Nigerians' shouts; or if the amnesia he was rumoured to have been diagnosed with back on his first London missionary journey is real and makes him instantaneously forget any Nigerian problem brought to his attention; or if his government has been hijacked by a bloodsucking cabal, then of course I will stop loving my President Muhammadu Buhari.

Iamgrey5:
Do you know what popularity is at all?
1)
of or relating to the general public

3)adapted to or indicative of the understanding and taste of the majority

Secondly do you know what heritage is at all

features belonging to the
culture of a particular society, such as traditions, languages, or buildings, that were created in the past and still have
historical importance.

The fact that you believed a tribe popularity cannot be influenced by its language and the fact that you believed language is not part of cultural heritage when addressing the issues of the Zulus in your write up makes me wonder why we are having this conversation

In addition, most aspects of the Zulu cultural norms are not very unique to them, it is basically the norms of the eastern bantu people of which the zulus are part. The popularity of the Zulu people was established because if the use of its language in the southern region of Africa.

@ popularity of Anglo-Saxon people

So what do you think made the English push their languages on others? Because of their love for others?

@ popularity of tribes in Eastern Africa

Who are the most popular tribes in eastern African then, if not the Swahilis?

@ how many Americans know about the Hausas

on your last sentence, How many people even care to know the difference in African tribes not to talk of the languages spoken in those countries? Do you know majority of people in the west still believe Africa is just one giant country.

Do me a favor, enumerate the most popular tribes in Africa and give valid reasons for your assertion?
Bro, I think we have both tried. Let's not derail this thread.
That said, I look forward to giving you graphic details on this subject but as of endless rants here, I 'gat' no strength for that.
PoliticsRe: How Do Other Non-igbo Nigerians Feel About Igbos? by BrownRoofRep: 11:01am On Aug 03, 2018
Iamgrey5:
The language being spoken in more than 5 countries makes Swahili tribe quite popular. Remember I said popular

Language and other influence makes a tribe popular

There's no tribe in Africa that covers much land mass

Furthermore, majority of the African Hollywood/movies always incorporate the Zulu language into their movies because of its popularity in southern region of Africa, even in south Africa, it is the most spoken language despite the presence of other tribes in that Country.

Finally, Hausas are quite popular because of wide acceptance of their language in west Africa. the Hausas and cousin tribes can also be found in countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Benin etc..

Although because of the fusion of the Hausas and Fulani tribes. one can say thesame about the Fulani tribe

So let me spell it out

Eastern/central Africa: Swahili

Southern Africa: Zulu

Western Africa; Hausa and Fulani to a great extent

That is my criteria for judging popularity.
Are you talking of people or language?
We are talking of people here not language. Don't confuse yourself.

You still don't know the difference between popular language and popular people.

You don't just say that the tiny Swahili people are the most popular group in East Africa because the language is a the most spoken. Swahili language is popular but Swahili as a people is not.

Hausa is not popular outside West Africa.

What makes Zulu popular is not the language but their rich legendary culture. Zulu language is spoken by less than 15 million people.

I agree language partially make some people popular but not always applicable.

Swahili language is far more popular than Swahili people.
Zulu people is far more popular than Zulu language.
English is the most popular language on earth, does it make the Anglo Saxtons popular?

Hausa language is very popular in West Africa, how many South and North Americans know Hausa people?

Swahili, Hausa and Zulu are the most popular tribe in Africa

Just stating the obvious for those that might want facts
Swahili people are tiny group of people in an Island with a population of about 2 million. How can a group of 2 million people be the most popular people in Africa?
Do you even know the difference between Swahili (language) and Swahili (ethnic group).

I agree, Zulu is popular but are they the most popular in Africa? Hell no!

Hausa has the most popular language in Africa but are they popular as people? Nope. How many Hausa people are popular outside Nigeria and Africa?
Is there any Hausa culture known across the world? Certainly not!

How many of African American heritage is of Hausa ancestry?

I don't want to derail this thread, maybe you should open a new thread on this let me reply it in full.

Elose11:
Reading some people's post here tells me how sad history is no more taught in our schools. For those who knows there history, the Binis have existed more than 800 years before the nation Nigeria came into existence. Now ask yourself how did they survive then?
Asking how an empire, that at the zenith of its power, stretched from most of present day Igbo land, through most of present day Niger delta to as far as present day Ghana will survive if Nigeria, it predated, disintegrate is the height if ignorance.
I agree but you should note that Benin empire was not only made up of Benin alone. Some Igbos and other groups were part of it but that does not make them all Benin.

You should also note that if Benin is to form a country, you should not consider encroaching others as you did in the Benin Empire era.
From what I've seen, Benin is fighting tooth and nail to take Delta with them hence their recent revived BenDel slogan.

I also disagree with whomever that is saying that Benin must join Yoruba. They are big enough and well equipped to stand on their own if the need arises. They just have to look inwards and cultivate their inbuilt strength.
Thanks.
